  1. #1 Help Guys: Studio Etiquette.
I've actually been asked to come in and meet some of the people at the studio that i'm actively going after...however this is so different than all my other jobs, what should I do...should I wear a shirt and tie? Jesus I'm just shaking at the thought of doing it in front of so many people...any advice

uhm... no real dress code. I'd say "Casual Dress" I guess. And uh... be nice! Be ready to go, be happy to be there, and ...yeah! >>

Wear comfortable, noiseless clothes, in case they ask you to read something in the studio. Laura got it right.

Oooo yeah good point! <3 Also avoid watches, rings, jewelry, and if you have long hair find a way to get it out of your eyes. ^^

Thats what I meant by "casual dress" I'm just terrible at naming all those things. LoL. Listen to Nikkita!

Although I'd like to add you might want to bring layers, some studios are hot, others they have really powerful air conditioning because of all the equipment. Or in some it might be cold in the outside, but warmer in the booth, etc. So bringing a sort of vest/jacket or something might not be a terrible idea.

They may have them there but bring a pen or pencil along with you. The director may ask you to change a certain line or pronounce something differently on your audition/script copy.
This way you can mark it down or underline something specific. So if you do a retake you'll know where they'd like you to change it up!
It will show them you came prepared for your audition/interview and that you can follow direction well. ^_^ have fun!

I cannot stress Tony's comment enough. Two things that are hated by producers and sound engineers alike is when you tap/touch the mic for any reason unless asked (and even for adjustment that does not often happen... at least not in the markets I am in), and saying that you sound "weird" when you put on your cans. Screams amateur.

    Okay... jewellry - check
    "loud" clothing - check
    long hair - check
    pen/pencils - check

did anyone mention bringing a granny smith apple or vocal spray in case you get sudden drymouth? It's always a staple of my gig bag...

personal opinion on dress. Business casual attire. Toss in a comfortable pair of dress shoes for new clients. Good loafers/casual shoes if not. Make sure they're polished.

also... if you know who the client is, I hope you took the time to look up as much info on them prior to the session as possible. Sounds odd, but for commercial work I find it to be very helpful, especially for industrials.
    Believe that you can,
    or belive that you can't...

    Either way, you're probably right.

I really can't add much since I'm pretty new here... but all this stuff would help me a lot in future job interviews and even VAing at home! Good luck on that interview Justin and thanks VAA!
