Yeah, you'll need an interface like a Scarlett 2i2/2i4 USB pre.

I can't help with the USB issue other than to suggest something lame like try it on a different USB port. Which version of Windows are you using? Or, you could try it on a different computer to make...
Post ONCE in AUDITIONS . . . quit spamming this all over the forum!
Computer noise can be frustrating when you have to have to comp and mic in the same room. In addition to reteo's great advice, there are some options for making your computer more quiet.
New cpu...
Hey I saw that Aramek helped you out with this on the other forum. Did you end up going with a USB mic?
The NT1A is a good buy. Some folks say it sounds even better once you remove a layer of mesh from the head basket.
My first mic for voice acting was the AT2020 USB. Decent mic, but shortly after I...
Maybe this will help.

For $200, this is probably the best mic that fits your criteria.

Or you could do a mic/usb pre combo...
Reading up on your pre, it should have enough gain for a ribbon mic, but budget pres don't always have "clean" gain when pushed. That could be the source of your hiss. I would try your condenser with...
It could be a few things. What is your preamp and what are you using to convert to USB? Ribbon mics need a lot of gain.
Phantom power will not harm your computer in any way.
Avoid the Snowball. Doesn't sound that great.
The MXL is a XLR mic which needs phantom power. So you'll need an audio interface/preamp like the one below to be able to plug it in to your computer....
I use to have an AT2020 (USB). Very nice mic. That said, I think the Yeti's built in headphone amp and gain knob give you more bang for your buck.
Latest episode of An Egg's Guide to Minecraft from Element Animation. I get to voice that Steve guy :)

Scarletts have nice clean pres. I've been considering getting one to use as an interface when it comes time to replace my current Delta 1010LT card.
Personally, between the C1 and the MK4, I'd go...
A better place to ask this question would be gearslutz.com. Those guys will know :)
Any specific gear you have in mind?
Lol . . . With no other replies for over a month, I'll stand by my gearslutz recommendation. ;) All sorts of helpful studio folks on there who would quickly jump all over a thread like this with...
AKG 414 . . . Nice! I'm a mic nerd ;)
I use a desk-mount scissor/boom-arm stand or a regular floor boom stand. Depends what I'm doing.
A lot of people seem to be happy with the Blue Yeti USB microphone. Or the Samson C01U USB mic.
1) Being able to work with such a talented and funny group the past few years.
2) And have something we were doing for fun turn into a well paying gig.
I already have a career, so voice acting/voice over will likely still be a hobby for me in five years (and still a serious one).
I only had one goal when I started a few years ago and I've been...
If you're in a recording arts/engineering program at college, don't they usually work out that stuff for you as part of your course? This probably isn't the best place to ask this question. You're...
Thank you very much!
Yeah, the Misfits wrote the song about Ed Gein, so the lyrics are pretty dark.
Ok, so looking at the other postings on here, mine will probably stick out like a sore thumb. It's not anime or Disney . . oh well!

I'd go with the Shure or Apogee. The Apogee will have more room in the vocal box (which is good).
