Placement is like coarse adjustment because it gets you into the general area of where your voice should be--For instance, usually, placement is used to nail down the age of the character (the higher you place the voice, the younger, and the lower, the older). Pitch is what you use afterward to fine tune it and be more specific with the voice you're going for; An older person can have a high voice and and a younger person can have a low voice. Pitch is a GREAT tool to have in your voice acting toolbox, but you gotta know how to use it RIGHT. New people usually incorrectly use pitch as placement and end up sounding nasally or like a person playing pretend rather badly (like a kid trying to do an older voice or an adult trying to do a child's voice... AND FAILING), thus what I mean by a limited range for fine adjustment/pitch.

@@; I kid you not, methinks I should make a guide on this since the video I usually refer to as a good example got taken down... But basically, placement is quite literally where you project, or place, your voice. Like projecting the voice from the chest or placing it in your mouth, to name 2 places; I know people who can get even more specific, like projecting from their eyes. The best metaphor I can use to describe the difference between placement and pitch is a microscope. You have coarse adjustment (big, broad changes to get the slide in focus) and fine adjustment (smaller changes, meant to fine tune--the range is limited).
