Lets see my thoughts... RIGHT!
Well for starters many of my friends actually don't like Bush, but I'm cutting him slack because if he didn't do anything other terrorist may come in and attack the U.S. which would be terrible! I mean he didn't have to do everything (bombing, tanks, and such) but he did have to show terrorist not to come again, and he had to build up his defense, so nothing else bad could happen or nothing that bad could happen again.
That's about all the slack I feel like cutting him (I hope nobody hates me now...) but honestly if he didn't do anything there could've been way more terrorist attacks and I think that sending people out to find Sadam (right?) was a good idea, now I've lost track if they found him or not but since the Canadians are out there now trying to reorganize things, and I hope they finish soon, but if he didn't do anything then I bet everyone would be furious and the U.S. would be way more vulnerable to terrorists.
Sorry if I offended anyone with my thoughts and opinions, but that's what they are...

Seriously, you guys don't know what to pick on bush about. The war in Iraq, yeah, sure. Big deal. In all honesty, the repercussions of the war will only last us about a decade. Lets talk about something that really fucked us up.
Lets call about the "No Child Left Behind" Plan, a hapless Bush mistake that probably explains why Holy Knight Margo thinks she can't vote until she's 21 and why Himura thinks that "It sure surprises me how it stays on going" is a proper sentence.

How typical. The war was never for oil, it will never be for oil, no matter how misconstrued your interpretations are. The war was about taking a dictator out of power to better the situation for the citizens of Iraq. Deaths are always inevitable. I'm not saying that this makes war right or wrong. I will not express my views on the war, and I'm sure none of you can judge what they from the non-biased facts stated.
Education means everything, Natsumi-chan. It is an education that qualifies national leaders, allows for equality of oppertunity, and creates a higher standard for the US economy. Do you realize we rank 25th in international education? Do you realize that there is a large amount of third-world countries who have better education systems than the USA? Do you realize that you, because of your teachers and government officials, are statistically an idiot? And its not your fault or the fault of any childs. It is the fault of the moron in office who made it "okay" for states to set their own educational standards.

GASP! A republican! XD (No harm meant there, really, my future wife is practically one. Makes for fun debates)
In all honesty, over the Operation: Iraqi Liberation debate, we won't know for sure until years down the line and the History Channel has a special on it. XD; The British took over India(I think?), said it was for other reasons, but really, it was for the cotton they grew.
The simple answer to a much more complex question is, war is never simply for just ONE thing. Yes, our declared intentions were to take a tyrant out of power that those in power here believed held weapons of mass destruction. But that wasn't the only perk to getting rid of that leader, now was it? War is always very profitable for big businesses.
As for "No Child Left Behind", thats a load of bull. Case in point. For Japanese 101 at a university nearest me, before Fall 2004, there was this man whot aught it who had a masters, been to Japan, yadda yadda, well, for that fall semester, the university "special hired" a "part-time" professor for the class instead. This man, happened to not have a degree in Japanese, but instead psychology. He was 76-years-old, wore an eyepatch, and walked with a limp. The redeeming factor? He was a WWII vet from the Japanese side and we sure a hell trusted him to teach us teh language and history of Japan, WAY MORE than some qualified teacher with a Masters in the language.
I had teachers, who'd taught for over twenty years now, without a masters and just their B.A., all of a sudden have to go back to school just to prove that THEY'RE qualified to teach a class, when its US, you, me, our nation as a statistic, that are the ones who fail to be "better".
But when it comes down to it. Who cares who's the smartest nation?
The United States is certainly the most powerful.
And if we ever came to war over who has the better education, then all the education in the world won't stop the marines from shoving their foot up an educated smart ass.
I was wondering what you guys think about how people everywhere an all them on the planet are being bombed and whatnot. I think it's meaningless manslaughter! It's totally flaming.

Actually, I'm not a Republican. {: My views on the war are just not one sided. I honestly think everyone should look at each issue as its own, rather than a straight-ticket afflication, such as democrat, republican, libertarian, or populist.
I'm glad you are hearing me on the NCLB act. At least someone is. And you're right, it doesn't have to do with which nation is the smartest. But internally, as a nation, we are hurting ourselves with this godforsaken act.
If anyone wants to hear the story of my senior year, they will learn why NCLB leaves every child far behind.

Actually, PosedtoDeath, your response is the typical arguement of someone who wants to believe they are living in the best country in the world, all the while ignoring the simple fact that many wars the US have engaged in are simply cases of "pot calling kettle black" (I love that phrase). The same, narrow minded arguements people make when they are afraid to open their mind and look at the big picture -- it'll make you look less stupid the next time you try to ridicule everybody else.
Back to the topic at hand...
Look at what happened with the situation in Haiti. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_Haiti_%281915-1934%29)
Needless to say, I'm not quite confident in the US occupation of Iraq. I'd truely love to believe it was all about the people, but unfortunately, people don't matter to World Super Powers unless a little (read: a lot) of moolah is involved. It's really very sad.
Not all occupations are going to be successful. We are not an empire. We are small and need support, or we will fail.
BUT US occupation has created the wealthiest, healthiest, and by far the favorite country of VAA- Japan.
Yes, I said it. And you should all admit it; The USA made Japan what it is today. A situation where occupation was needed to reconstruct economy and society and recreate a country as a whole. We did that for Japan. And look how it payed off.

Honestly... the war in Iraq sucks. I totally disagree with it because whatever our motives are now, we did NOT go in there to remove a dictator. We went in there because we needed to make America happy after a series of terrorist attacks (which were unrelated to Saddam, but let's put that aside right now).
However, I agree at least partially with Posed. No Child Left Behind, and the USAPATRIOT Act have screwed us over for the future just as much, if not more, than the war. There is so much stuff that got sneaked into the USAPATRIOT act that no one knows about. I worked in banking. My friend works in an airport. We were taught some stuff to comply with it that was absolutely sickening, and of course we aren't supposed to reveal that information because it might compromise national security, or some bullshit like that.
And No Child Left Behind is fucking up my school SO badly it's not even cool.
Also, while this sounds incredibly selfish (see? I'm admitting it!), the "War" (read: military conflict, since Congress never declared war) on Terror affects far fewer people on a day-to-day basis than the other two I mentioned.
So yeah, people love bashing Bush because there are so many reasons to do it, but half of their reasons conflict with one another and it just gets to be a pain in the ass.
I'm sure I just totally wandered off topic, but whatever.

Not that I think any one would find this information intresting, but I think it may be relivent to this topic.
In a year there is:
Days: 365
Hours: 8,760
Minutes: 525,600
Seconds: 31,536,000
Now what you probably didn't know is that there are 3,942,000 births (in the US), and 2,628,000 deaths in a year (In the US). meaning there are 1,314,000 more births then deaths.
In the Iraq War, currently there is offically 16,155 American military casualties and 15,000 to 48,100 American military casualties so far.
Now the list I got this information from (http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/) I do not know if these are wounded and dead alike or just the dead. Either way there are now alot of men and women, and what I'm guessing is ranging from 18 - 30 in age (17 with parental consent) have either passed on have been wounded either mentally or physically.
What do I mean by mentally ? Well, most people, especially those fresh out of high school do not understand what is it like to see someone die, or to take a life. These young people will forever be changed. If a car ever backfires near them, or they hear gunfire in a movie.....more then likely they will have flashbacks.
War is not just having an effect on the soldiers families, but the soldiers themselves.
What is not being address as well. With most, if not all of the American military dealing with the war, Army, Navy, etc. It is extreamly easy for the Europe and Asian Nations to ally together and easily subdue the most hated country that exists at this point in time.
Now this post has gotten long, and I think a bit lost.
The point of this is to say, even though I want to, and most likely wiil, join the US Navy I do not feel the lives of the current lost soldiers in the battles are worth it in the over all war.
My views are my own, and I do not expect anyone to understand, or to agree with them. I leave you all with that.

The current count of casualties in the American Military since March of 2003 in Iraq are 2,225. Cross-check your facts.

If you can dettatch personal emotion from a thread and only apply humor, then you won't be offended. I know that Pixie and I are both using humor in order to keep things from becoming personal. It helps to openly express ones self without the fear of crossing a line.

Okay...I know the topic disappeared a few posts back...and I really don't understand much of what people are saying...
Speaking of Japan, today, in my Japanese class, my teacher said that after World War II, the Japanese put in their Japanese equivalent of the U.S. Constitution (yeah...I don'no what it's called), that they would stay away from war because they did not want the same thing as or anything like World War II happening again. And they only really have some thousand troops for defense purposes... But the U.S. had them send their DEFENSE troops to FIGHT in Iraq...and the U.S. is trying to make them change their "Constitution" so that they can help the U.S. fight Iraq. I think that's kind of stupid because the war in Iraq should really only be between us and Iraq. We shouldn't get other countries that have nothing to do with the war involved. I don't think anyone in Iraq even wants us there! I don't think that so many U.S. people should be fighting over there, and dieing while their families are over here worried sick about them. I think that the war is just causing pointless deaths...and even if we weren't here, people in Iraq would still be dieing, so those would be more deaths, I guess. But the people we're sending over there are so young and should really be doing something else with their lives. You only live once. @.@ Yeah...I'm young and stupid... I probably have said some really inaccurate things... But this is just what I think, and how I see it.

The war in Iraq finished years ago. It was short and sweet and preety useful, as now we can see Saddam leave courtrooms in a hilarious manner.
What i think of the occupation though is that on the whole us, the common people, are too stupid to even start to comprehend (sp? >_>) what is going on and so we shouldn't try. Most people take the hippy way out "People have died, so it's bad".
Everyone tends to forget that great video of saddams statue being pulled down, or the fact that somewhere in iraq there are quite a few babies named "george bush" and "Tony Blair".
You have to remember, the people in Iraq who are randomly bombing everything in sight don't want us there. I'm not sure if this is the minority or the majority (That don't want us there, not bombing things). But if the people deciding to take things into there own hands and putting people at risk didn't exist american would have been welcomed with open arms.
