It looks like...the first file is only like..O-o;; 7 seconds of what sounds like eerie music. Guess I'll have to download the entire thing from the second link...

*listening*

Wow...the first 50 seconds was actually pretty damn creepy...

There's a bunch of static and air puffs which were kind of like "Ewww..." and there are a lot of audio discrepancies between the various mics used in this production. Around the 2:30 mark, there's this annoying thing in b/g buzzing...

4:00 minutes...this is the hospital, I presume...?

5 minute mark...the little girl Laura. O_o;; Wow...there's quite a difference between the audio quality of you two...

[there's a lot of things happening in the b/g that I have NO idea what's going on...]

Ok. I have NO idea what's going on. *at 9 minute mark*

:boom Now this is just freaky...I'm at the part that mentions the "crimson" whaddya-maccalit...

...getting freakier and freakier...

=_= ok...monster...monster...monster...

congrats. despite all the little minor errors (but it's your first time, so this is good), you have now managed to freak me out.

Enjoyable listen.

My god what a nice RP.

Fairuza: WOOOOOW! I was so shocked, I loved your voice in this one. So serious and beautiful and deep. I wonder how you do it. Your performance was so perfect, so in key with the character. AAA! I love your voice, its so beautiful.

Sakura Shin: Your voice is soo cute. It actually sounds like a kid to me.

Klepto Bismal: heard you for a short while but it was awesome!

SabreDenton: I really liked your rendition for James. It was unlike what I expected, and better for it.

Genesis Avalon: I really liked the way you acted and everything you did just fit so well with the character. I would've liked to hear a little more intensity though.

Erin: I liked the way you portrayed the nurse. Kind and caring. I would've portrayed her differently. I liked yours.

Charil: Woah! Your singing was freaky.

Monsters: Both of you were great. Real believable and strange. I like the way you portrayed them. I enjoyed listening to the monsters XD

Well overall, you guys work well as a team. Complement eachother very well. Good work.

Mixing Critique:
Sometimes the background noise was too loud for me to hear you (Laura), like right after the flashback. Speaking of flashback, I think you coulda added a flashback sound effect, but it wasnt too necassary woulda sounded better though. Everything else was perfect. I really liked the mixing overall. The strange woosh from one speaker to the next and back, that was very cool. The sounds were pretty freaky at all the right times. Good work.

Ah~, I saw this up this morning, but didn't get a chance to listen to it until now u_u

Ah well, it was well worth the wait; amazing! :0 Everything was great, just what I expected from listening to the first trailer. Everyone was magnificent... just... wow ._. Scared the hell outta me x) I've officially downloaded it and added it to my playlist *giggle*

To be edited with a better review when I have more time ._.

Zomg yay! >w<

Edit-...hmmmm...I think that maybe there were a few too many really long pauses with some indescernable background noise, that really would have meant alot if we could understand what was happening, or where the character was going. Overall, though, it was incredibly well done-with diverse background music, that changed to fit the mood perfectly, and some well voiced characters.
Everyone did an awesome job, and yay Fairuza, for putting it all together ANd voicing the pain role! :D

WOW!!!
Thank you sooo much guys for the awesome input as well as your useful and constructive advice you gave me which I'd like to use for the next chapters of this story.

Otaku Generation: I'm really glad you enjoy it! Even though this is my very first RP, I tried to make it seem very true to the original Silent Hill games which always seems to have this disjointed, psychological atmosphere to it. But your comments really made me happy as well as the helpful advice. Thank you very much for viewing!^^

Cefaclor: Aww..Thank you very much! Your comments really touched me.^__^ I'm soo glad you loved this RP. I admit I'm still a bit green in producing, but I'd like to thank you for taking the time to view and giving out your very useful critique to keep me on my toes! Thank you soo much Cefaclor!^^

Charil: O.o When I was reading your post in this thread, I was really surprised to read what you said about putting this in your playlist!^^Wow! I'm very happy and I'm glad you liked Part 1 of this hectic story. This is just the beginning so be prepared for other strange things to come out of this story.XD
Btw, I simply enjoy listening to your mysterious girl voice. You were a perfect fit for her.

Sakura Shino: :D I'd have to agree about some of the long drawn out pauses in certain areas of this. Your words of advice was really useful for me, and I don't disagree with you at all. Besides, The best word of advice always comes from the audience, which I enjoy listening to. I thought you made a perfect young Laura. I loved how you played with the lines and her voice! Great job, Thank you for your useful critiques!I absolutely appreciate it!:D

Thank you to all who have listened and enjoyed Part 1. I'd also like to thank all of the VA's for participating in this project. You all did a wonderful job.

xD I played Rosalyn! XD XD XD You forgot to add me, but I already told you about that lil' thingy.

I shaaaall, tell you what I think once I listen to it. (Internet is currently the equivilant of dial up. PAINFULLY SLOW!!!~)

[Edit]

And now my Review!

Fairuza - I'll be honest, that ringing in the background(Mic problem, I've had it too, but it comes and goes) actually did add to the effect of it being based on Silent Hill. In some of the games, there's a ringing sound, so I rather liked that effect. You portrayed Older Laura very well. Your acting was flowing well and somewhat naturally, I felt drawn to know more about the story through her eyes. Since it is, somewhat revolving around her, but still. Sometimes people forget that and focuss on others. That didn't happen here, I rather enjoyed your parts. Very good job. ^_^

Genesis Avalon - Very dramatic, with the illness and all. But you also had a calmness and coolness about you that made it sort of flow easier. How you panicked, but tried to keep it calm. Nice touch. As for outside of the 'illness phase' part. The dream/silent hill part, was also very well done. Over all, a very well done performance. ^^;;

Sakura-Shino - You. Are. So. CUTE! I LOVED your voice as young Laura. Although you only had a small appearance, it was awesome none the less. ^___^;; So cute. That's all I really need to say about that. Hee. Very nicely done. Very believable as a child.

Klepto Bysmal - So awesome, even for a short appearance. xD Awesome.

Erin - Very nicely performed. Very kind and caring, very much like the character.

SabreDenton - You portrayed James very well. Very passionately done. I liked it a lot. Wonderful job!

Charil - o.o;; That singing. Wow. So creepy... Sent chills down my spine.

Monster people - Awesome! enough said xD

The over all Clip was nicely done. I honestly couldn't find a fault. The mixing was well done. The BGM/SFX were very creepy. They set the mood very well, very dark and mysterious when it needed to be, and up-beat when it was called on(Which wasn't often, being a horror and all. xD)

Over all, I loved the whole thing. Can't wait to hear the second part!

This was quite an interesting RP, and it was definately put together very well!

Laura-Fairuza: I really liked your voice for Laura, and even though I can faintly remember the voice of Laura, you did well on all counts. Your voice was very interesting, and your acting was was superb.

Mary-Genesis Avalon: You were awesome! Very very close to the original, and I love how you had this really mature sounding tone in your voice. Good job ^_^

Young Laura-Sakura-Shino: You really changed your voice for the younger Laura, which was awesome. Very cute XD

Male Nurse- Klepto Bysmal: You sounded great for the role, although I feel the background hiss, really took away from your voice. And it also seemed like you were in a different atmosphere because of the hiss.

Racheal- Erin: I dont remember hearing too much of your voice, but you did well for what you voiced!

James- SabreDenton: I enjoyed your performance, how ever you should watch the popping next time around.

Mysterious girl- Charil: You singing was very spooky, good job! XD

Monster 1 and 2 -Rabids Squirrel,Geist Seig: Good job, I guess you guys did well in voicing the monsters.

The mixing was fairly decent in this RP, although I feel the quality could have been a bit better. I noticed that there was a lot of noise for the lines, and sometimes there was just way too much noise reduction applied. But I know these kind of things are very hard to control at times, but I just thought you should keep that in mind. Also, I noticed that there was just a tad too much non-dialogue portions in the play where you just had music playing, which made me loose a bit of interest. I know something was going on in those portions, but you should quicken it up a bit the next time around. ON the contrary, I really liked the music and the sound effects you used in the RP, it really helped in establishing the different atmospheres and such. Also, the voicing was great, everyone's acting was very believable, and very enjoyable listening to.

Very enjoyable in an eerie Silent Hill kinda way!
All performances were subtle enough to not seem out-of-place and forced, yet carried enough impact to keep this interesting to listen to. As Pyro mentioned, the pacing seemed a little slow for something purely audio at times, but the atmosphere was still rich thanks to well-placed SFX, music, and hints of dialogue between main conversation scenes.

I didn't fully understand what was going on throughout a lot of it, but that's probably because I'm unfamiliar with most of the SH series, and this certainly seemed like one of those RPs where too much (if any) narration would spoil the mood.

It was a little hard to tell apart the stylistic noise/dirty ambience from the unwanted stuff, as there was quite a lot of 'buzz' on some of the lines, and a few of the SFX could have been of higher quality. These are minor glitches though, and as has also been pointed out, the overall standard of mixing was great.

Well done again to the cast (including some brief input by the creatures - always good fun to record and listen to!) and to fairuza; you've inspired me to get back to my horror-fantasy script right away =)

Thank you Mazkun, Pyro and Runai for all of your comments and useful advice which I find very helpful for the next installment!^__^
I'm very glad everyone here liked chapter 1. But I'll warn everyone that it'll get even more freakier as the chapters progress more throughtout this story, which I'm still in the process of writing.^^
And to Runai, I'm very happy to hear that your going back to your horror script!^^
Thank you guys so much for your input. I really appreciate it!:D

Runai

Wow! In many ways a great improvement over chapter 1. I see now how the first installment was kind of introducing the characters in their respective backgrounds/situations, and mabye you're using these following chapters to develop each one in turn...?

It really felt like playing through the game; feeling every inch of the horrible atmosphere, especially the foreshadowing of the radio feedback. 23 minutes of audio could perhaps use a little more dialogue, but I understand how this was more of Laura's exploration than anything else. (I take it Laura's solo lines were more her 'thoughts' than talking to herself ^^; )

Only things I'd suggest for future editing:
- A couple of sound effects were repeated here and there (often right next to one another), but that's me being very nitpicky.
- I hope I'm not the only one noticing some noise on some lines... I thought it might have been stylistic at first, but then I noticed it cutting in and out just as characters were talking. Mainly during and after her conversation with the woman near the end.

What you have here is quite unique, and it's been executed very skillfully - same great mixing as chapter 1, but with much cleaner sound effects. The acting continues to be of a high standard, and I'm still loving the original creature voices =D Great work!

Thank you very much for the constructive and great feedback Runai!
I'm really glad you liked it! I tried to take everyone's advice from the first chapter and improve this alot better. The first chapter was mainly an intro to get to know a bit about some of the characters before all the chaos begins.^^
As these chapter progress more deeper into the mood of this story, I plan on explaining more of each of the character's development processes.(What's behind each character).

Basically, throughout the 23 minutes of this RP, when hearing Laura talk about what's going on around her, we were basically hearing her thoughts experiencing the strange things happening around her. I agree with my use of repetitive sound effects.^^;
After hearing the clip again, I've noticed the same repetitive beat some of the sfx were leading into. As well as some of the lines with noise especially in the scene where Laura meets Rosalyn. I fully take the blame for recording those lines in the bathroom, lol. Next time, I think I'll just stick to recording each line in my sound-proof closet which is working wonders.^^ For future installments, I'll be sure to definately take note on what should need more improving on! As for the acting performances, I'm really glad you enjoyed them.^^
I'm very lucky to have an amazing cast who just blows me away with the liveliness in this project as well as their audience! I'm sure they really appreciate your kind words. As well as myself.^^

Thank you again,Runai for taking the time to review this RP!

P.S: Thanx to Chris Dark for sparking up an idea that I think would be a neat idea of making a Behind the Scenes of this radioplay to give the audience more of a feel and understanding for this psychological story. I'll probably get started on that after this RP series is complete. Then all of your questions and more will be answered.:D

You may have tried something like this already (or you may not have Cool Edit), but this could help you with the noise-reduction problem:

With any luck you won't have to confine yourself to the closet in future! Plus you can touch up the files sent in by your cast ^^

I tried to download the first two chapters from the rapidshare server but it says that the files are no longer there. Where can I go to hear them? Also, are there any future chapters to be released or is it just the 2 chapters that make a complete story?

Thank you so much. I'm just really getting into Silent Hill (though I haven't played a single one) and I think the idea of converting it into an AD is an awesome idea. My school schedule isn't much better, I'm sure so don't feel bad.:-D

Well I'm using Cool Edit Pro,but I've been experimenting with what all it can do and what it's limitations are.I think I should try figuring out how to use the multitrack feature if Cool edit has it available. Thanks for the pointer! :)

fairuza
05-11-2006, 09:45 PM
Exact same thing, when Cool Edit was bought by Adobe, they renamed it Audition. ;) Multitrack is easy, you can use tracks indepentantly of each other (say one for sfx, one for music etc.); you just right click your wav and "add to multitrack project", from there you can just drag your audio around and place it on the timeline where you want it to occur.

Ohh,ok.hehe.^^
