Eh? what's that you say? WTF is a tanka? A tanka is similar to a haiku, in that it has to do with syllables. A haiku is three lines, that do not rhyme, first line must have 5 syllables, second line must have 7, third line has 5 again. A tanka is 57577. And after reading these tankas that I wrote back in the day, you may ask yourself, WTF? what is this? Is this guy some kinda gothic freak? Actually, as dark as these are, most of them have nothing to do with me, just some stuff I wrote. So here we go!
--------------------------------
(this one is somewhat about me, but not to such an extent. It is about the fact that we all make mistakes that haunt the present.)
my past is darkness,
a shadow on the present,
my future is blind.
as future becomes present,
it slowly passes to darkness
(this one...I don't know what it's about really, it's not me...I don't think.)
I stand in the dark
beneath faintly glowing stars,
and I cry aloud.
but my cries echo and die,
no one hears my silent cries.
(the idea for this came from the Bible.)
I am not perfect,
neither am I without sin.
My friends condemned me,
and my loved ones cast me out.
with mercy you forgave me.
(this was back during the Terry Shaivo thing.)
Seeing them in hell,
seeing those who can end it
do nothing to help.
I can only hope and pray
that soon all will be set right.
(this is actually more about me than anything)
ahead lie doors,
and these doors are my future.
my fear keeps them shut,
my fear of what lies beyond.
soon these doors will all be locked.
(the idea for this came to me one night, don't know how or why.)
I live in darkness,
tripping on unseen objects.
As much as it hurts,
I walk as though nothing’s there.
I will not turn on the light.
----------------------
So yeah, I'm not a sad depressed soul or anything, in fact I'm the oposite, so don't ask me why these are so dark, they just are. So if your only response is "wtf?" then you have no obligation to post, only constructive critisism and praise (maybe?).
