Rehnquist just died tonight of complications from thyroid cancer.
My personal thoughts, somewhat random, considerably biased (and I really don't give a damn):

It could be worse. If Bush had already gotten his first choice through with no fuss, he could have claimed a precendent that conservative versus liberal ideology was not a viable reason to block a nomination, though he'd likely word it like "Hey, yall accepted this guy and it didn't matter that he's a conservative."
That said, it sucks very much that the president with the lowest approval rating in recent (and not so recent, he's fallen below Nixon) memory is going to severely impact law for decades to come by getting two Supreme Court seats to fill.

I guess Pat Robertson should've wished for only LIBERAL judges to die. Jokes on you, ol' Patrick!
SexyLexy's voice actually SOUNDS boring.

But seriously, babe, you sound really depressed for all the wrong reasons. Go out and live life to fullest, because that's the best thing one can do in the face of adversity. Stiff upper lip and all that, yeah?

I'm not depressed! [/sarcasm]
I've had a great summer, honestly. Continuously drunk and partying for two weeks straight at one point (yeah, Pennsic...).
These things go in shifts, you see. Too much happiness and I might die of bliss, and then where would you be without any ammunition? ;)

Oh, I'm just funnin', babe.
And dying of bliss would easily be up there on my top ten ways to die list. Probably along with explosions and "martyred while stopping an alien invasion."

After about three posts, I finally got it. XD
If Mars Attacks! ever becomes real, I call dibs on blasting the Martian with the biggest quantum phaeton neutralizer. Tom Cruise can suck it.

Mars Attacks! was really underrated. It was just a good old fashioned popcorn flick, kind of like the movies of the time that the original trading card series was based on.
But back on topic, HEY. DEAD OLD MAN.

Dead old man... one conservative dies, another takes his place. I don't see a huge upset in the balance of power. Roberts is really going to be the one to watch. Of course, justices in the past have seemed conservative only to show their liberal pride once no one could do anything to pry them out of their seat. If Roberts ends up more moderate, and Rehnquist's replacement turns out to be a lefty in hiding, the entire balance of the bench will be upset.
I'd really be concerned if one of the liberal judges died.

Hear, hear. Although having a great centrist (O'Connor) leave and a fairly fair man pass away are already blows.
But hey.
I think Chris said it best.

John Roberts is Bush's selection.
Not too sure about this one...
