Deadline extended to September 17.
Who is Shields McKloskey?
"Who is Shields McKloskey?" is originally a short story I wrote for a writer's workshop, but has since become the basis of an on-going web-comic. Since the short story introduces the world the comic is set in, I decided that I wanted it to be a part of comic site. But since it is quite difficult to get people to sit down and read a 4000 word short story when they came to read a comic, I want to make it into a radio play instead.
The story is largely a conversation between a man and a woman, who sit down and discuss their encounters with a man stranglely named Shields McKloskey, and during the course of the conversation more and more information about this man is revealed. There is also a third role, that of a narrator, which is quite substantial.
Deadline: 17th of September
Formatting: [44100hz 16-bit Stereo MP3] Label the audition entries "character_yourname_linenumber.mp3", and send them via e-mail to chickenburger9@hotmail.com.
Characters:
Captain Marina Rossi (female) [MAH-REE-NAH RAH-SI]
Age: Mid forties
Bio: Military Intelligence officer of many years. She is in a position of authority and trust, but is slowly starting to hate her vocation, but can't for various reasons, resign.
Voice type: Her voice is sharp and authorative, but has an underlying sadness and tiredness to it.
Audition Line 1: “I saw a bottle of Jameson’s in that cupboard by the door when I came in. Do you mind if I pour myself a glass?"
Audition Line 2: "I just sat with him for more than an hour, during which he would alternate between chanting that same line, and complete silence. I was nearly asleep when he suddenly pulled his sidearm from the holster on his thigh, and put the barrel of the gun between his teeth."
Audition Line 3: [Dispassionately] “He has never been diagnosed with any serious mental illness."
Detective Gary Ivanov [EEH-VA-NAHV] (male)
Age: Late thirties
Bio: Small town detective. Inquisitive, curious and easily excited. The world hasn't made him hard and cynical yet.
Voice type: A youthfulness that belies his age. His diction becomes low, and slow when he gets serious.
Audition Line 1: [Surprised disbelief] “Wait a minute. Do you mean to tell me that his first name is actually ‘Shields’!? What kind of parents name their kid Shields!?”
Audition Line 2: "I kept sending his file to anyone who might have any information on him. Interpol returned with the name ‘Adrian Gordon Brett’, while Europol, my personal favorite so far, gave his identity as ‘Camal Ibn Izz-Al-Din’. All of them contained a different name, a different date of birth, but always the same face.”
Audition Line 3: [Confident, borderline smug] “It sounds like you are stalling, Captain Rossi.”
Deadline again: 17th Sept.
For anyone interested in looking into the web-comic for background or inspiration, it can be found at October20comic.com (http://www.october20comic.com).
Once finished, the radioplay will be added to the site in youtube form. There is little strong language. Each of the main characters swears once each, but apart from that, it is quite clean.
