Heyas everyone.
I came here through a Google search because I had wound up with the craziest idea. What's this idea, you ask? It's a series of audio dramas based on a series of Stargate fanfics with nothing but original characters set in a newly discovered (and originally underground) cityship which is bigger and older than Atlantis. This will be a bit different since the cast of characters is a bit wide due to the fact that this will be following two different gate teams. The plotlines will be as family friendly as Atlantis was and generally striving for a similar theme with more focus on characterization and actually exploring the city they're in without it becoming a Battlestar Galactica clone.
I'm looking for a group of people who can offer their voices for these characters. There are one-off characters which will appear once (or twice if both the writing and voice actor allows it), characters which will appear from time to time but aren't there in every episode, and the core characters. However, since I'm only starting on the third episode, I have a clearer idea of which characters are needed now.
Also, most of these characters are still being fleshed out but anyone chosen to play that character does have a say in how that character evolves over time. Also, I'm open to giving your characters more or less time if you want since I like to think of myself as a fairly flexible person.
==How to Audition==
The characters are sorted in groups of whether they're on one of the two gate teams (main), base staff (recurring sporadically), and one-off characters (appearing once at least).
Since I'm just doing auditions for the first two episodes (except for the mains) and the scripts are done, instead of giving audition lines that have been arbitrarily chosen, I'm going to allow those who want to audition select whichever line they want from the two finished scripts.
-Record in 44100hz 16-bit Stereo MP3
-Save the lines as "charactername_yourname.mp3"
-Send your auditions to gregora14241@gmail.com with the topic of "Stargate Eden Audition"
-If compressed into a file (.rar preferred), just upload the compressed file as "charactername_yourname" if doing just one character and "yourname" with subfolders for each character you're auditioning for.
-Just get them in when you can.
UPDATE: Stargate: Eden is now being done in association with Drunken Fish Entertainment.

===Character List===
==Team One==
Name: Shiro Knight
Age: 30-ish
Gender: Male
Status: Open
Bio: He is the youngest son and second-youngest in a predominantly ground-based military family. He was the first to break his family's tradition by attending the US Air Force Academy and joining the US Air Force as a pilot. However, after several years, through no fault of his own, he always returned alive. Eventually, it gave him such a reputation that he was encouraged to go down a new avenue and joined Black Ops, where Major Steven Daniels served as his Commanding Officer. After a mission where he saved most of the team he was on through his tactical knowledge, he was contacted to join the Stargate Program. Since then, through his work within the program, he reached the rank of Lt. Colonel shortly before being contacted by General Reis to join an expedition. He serves as not just the leader of Team One but as Eden's Senior Military Advisor since the IOA insisted on a similar chain of command as Atlantis.
Voice type: Military, generally calm (unless Tara has annoyed him)
Episodes: All to some extent
Note: Lots of dialogue.
Name: Ihachi Windwalker
Age: late 20's
Gender: Female
Status: Open
Bio: Comes from a a family which were mostly scientists with mixed ethnic background of Japanese/Native American. She joined the US Air Force as a means of rebelling against the status quo. Her parents weren't too thrilled about it but still supported her decision. Tends to remind the rest of her team that she isn't a scientist and knows nothing about scientific stuff. She has been known to get into snark contests with Tara.
Voice type: can have Japanese/North American accent (half of her family is Japanese, the other half is Native American)
Episodes: All to an extent.
Name: Tara Stevens
Age: mid 20's
Gender: Female
Status: Semi-Open (you can still apply for this character...kinda want to voice this character unless someone can do better)
Bio: When she was three, many doctors gave the prognosis that she would be mentally infantile all her life. Because of this, her mother hid her from the world to the best of her ability, however, her father had treated her like a person. It clearly became obvious that the prognosis was false. When she was six, she met Melody Summerlin, only managing to say only "Mel" whenever she tried to say her name. The two girls quickly became the closest of friends and both shared dreams involving flight, eventually making a promise with Mel that the two would become pilots together. When she was ten, her mother walked out on her and her dad, never even saying 'good-bye', leaving a scar on Tara's psyche. When she was fourteen, her dad received the first of many open heart surgeries, starting a noticeable decline in his health. During one of the times her dad was in the hospital when she was sixteen, she and Mel went explring in the caves in a local park, mostly to keep her mind off of things and managed to enter the small outpost in the caves which led her into Eden. It was there that she had stumbled upon one of the original inhabitants in a stasis pod, looking no older than his mid-20's. Three days after arriving to Eden, she was almost killed by a collapse of a corridor, but made a full recovery. Shortly before the end of summer vacation that year, most of the group left, never to meet up again due to their lives. Upon graduating from High School with Melody, she told Mel that she isn't going to the Academy, even after getting a letter recommendation from the Air Force JROTC Senior instructor and a letter of approval. This caused Mel to lash out at Tara in anger, causing Tara to believe that their friendship was over. As Tara watched her father's health deteriorate, she spent more and more time in Eden, learning the language through educational programs and doing what she could to find something, anything to keep her father alive. In the end, she felt that she failed in her task and he passed away when she was twenty. Since then, she has lived alone in Eden while also going to college...
Personality: At first, she can come off as shy, cautious and weary, but once her trust has been earned, she comes out of her shell. She always puts others before her, especially those she considers as her friends. She is also very touchy about putting herself in danger and if she feels that her death would be selfish, she will reveal just how stubborn she really is. However, her lack of communication skills tend to make her come off as a jerk when she doesn't understand the subtleties of what she said.
Voice type: She is said to have a flat cadence and an Inland NW accent.
Episodes: All
Name: Melody Summerlin
Age: mid 20's
Gender: Female
Status: Open
Bio: She met Tara when they were in first grade in Elementary school and quickly saw her as something of a sister. When she was sixteen, she caught up with Tara and Gavin, joining the group who entered Eden for the first time since it was abandoned. She led the part of the group which went off-world to find fresh ZPMs. During one such outing, she found herself alone in the ruins since everyone had wandered off, but felt that it went well since they had found a fresh ZPM and they all regrouped at the Jumper. As the group fell apart, she remained one of the last ones to leave Eden behind. When she and Tara graduated from High School, Tara told her that she isn't going to the Academy with her. Feeling hurt and betrayed, she lashed out at Tara, severing ties to the geek. Since then, she realized that it was something she regretted, but chose to wait for Tara to call rather than calling Tara. When Tara did call her, it wasn't to bury the hatchet but with news about Eden...

Is there anyone willing to lend me their voices? Oh, well. I've done some updates to the thread anyways. I'm also planning to add the information I have on the Drunken Fish Entertainment board to keep this one up to date. Lots have been done and added. And changed.

I am very very new to this, but I can lend you my voice.
Here is one monologue I did for someone on reddit. (http://soundcloud.com/thestamp/day-1-hq) This one is designed to be very close, very personal, very broken.
I can do other voices too, and I'm into Sci-fi stuff. So this will be fun :) I'll send my audition sound files tomorrow, any specific roles you're still looking for?
TaraTheTaz
07-12-2012, 08:53 PM
Right now, I've just gotten an audition from someone but all roles are still open. Also, I can't access the monologue.

Can we send in general samples, and you can decide what role would fit best?

you could also audition for every role you think suits you and I'll pick which role out of the auditions you get.

Bumping with awesome news: As of Friday the 13th, my high-quality laptop came back from the shop. We're talking about a laptop with a sandy bridge i7 and 8GB RAM. Not to mention a nice nvidia graphics card. It should make the production run more smoothly. However, I can't use it as much as my general purpose workhorse since it's more finicky about temperature and I don't have air conditioning and my room is generally hotter than it is outside. By the time I go into production, I should be able to just hang out at the library or something.

Here's a progress update for those who are curious and/or interested:
I have two to three guys who have informed me that they are planning to audition, but they have yet to decide on which role (not counting you, Stamp and Alucard). The ladies have yet to have anyone auditioning for them. Also, I am around halfway through with the first draft of the fourth episode which isn't as demanding for new voices as episode 3 where I've introduced a humanoid reptilian race of explorers. Episode four will just use most of these explorers plus two more voices- one for a captain of a missing ship that was just found and the voice of one of the new enemies which is kinda frightening when it first appears.
Also, feel free to also critique the scripts and point out flaws and inconsistencies since I have no one doing any amount of peer reviewing here. I just let it sit and return to it after a week or so.

Thanks for everyone who is supporting this project, including Drunken Fish Entertainment. I just noticed that we've broken 200 views which is a surprise to me.
So I have some announcements and updates I want to make.
Not only have I given each episode a name and number, I have the entirety of Season One planned out. It's my intention to do a full season in the vein of a "normal" show. It's also my intention to release the episodes either complete on a weekly basis or half of each episode on a weekly basis. What this means is either releasing a full 40-something minute program or have it be 20-something minute program where the episode is cut in half. As far as the first season is concerned, I've kept the amount of filler episodes to a minimum.
As far as the plans for the future, there will be some form of a second season (assuming we don't get a C&D order). If viewership is low (or unheard of) or we get a fan backlash, the second season will be 10 episodes long to allow for the wrapping up of all character arcs and to tie everything up. If viewership is good and so is the reaction to it, Eden will continue being around. I do have a set "finale" planned out in case I have to end it, but I've got a good amount of ideas going on in my head.
I've also finished up the first draft of episode four and I'm making (slow) progress on episode five. I'm pretty much making sure I got a cushion of scripts to allow me to spend more time on the sister project and to give me time to work on the editing.
Next month is also going to be fun since during the weekend of the 10th, I will be (mostly) offline and unreachable due to the local convention taking place in my hometown. Three days of being surrounded by gamers, gamer geeks, geeks, and nerds. Since I missed out on the other convention I go to each year, I really need to go and take a break from my life to game and hang out with people.
Also, I've removed a deadline since it looks like it's probably not going to work out that way. This means that once all parts are filled out for the first two episodes, not only will the recording phase start, but I'll be putting up audition opportunities for characters in the following two episodes. While I'll be waiting for those to be filled, I will be editing the episode and assisting with the sister project while doing some light scripting work. Once the openings for the next set of characters are filled, then the cycle will repeat. Once I feel that I could release the episodes (or half episodes) on a weekly schedule, I will start releasing them. I will have a bit of a hiatus between seasons to allow me to go from editing work to full-on scripting work. However, if the editing gets too out of hand, I will probably be asking for a hand. Or two. Maybe three.
Also, feel free to ask me anything about the project that you want to know that I haven't covered. Hopefully, I haven't prattled on too much or anything.

For any who are curious about this 'sister' project, it is named Stargate Continuum, and it is a 'kind-of' continuation of SG-1, though not initially. This show itself will sent up the basis for the discovery of Eden, however it is likely that Eden as a show will begin first, as Continuum takes place initially in the past, and development on it was not as far along as Eden's was when me and Taz up there first crossed paths. I gave quite a few suggestions and pointers to Eden including helping create or more accurately 'flesh out' a race and ancient and powerful lizard people.
Somw will likely say that some of the stuff that takes place in SG C simply copies what happens in Eden, but that is simply not so, both shows initially evolved separately.
I am likely going to have considerably less Episodes a season than Eden, (due to mixing and production time limitations), however once SG C has caught up, expect occasional crossover Episodes.
Also, beyond the opening season arc, if no-one seems to be interested in my show, it will simply be cancelled, and I will move on to a supporting role in Eden. If that fails also I have one more Gate project up my sleeve, but we'll see.

Small update: I finished the scripts to Episodes 5 and 6 today. Initial work has been started on Episode 7. A new main character will be introduced in Episode 7. Episode 6 was a fun episode to write. It's half backstory, half Tara-centric. Less emphasis will be put on Tara from here on out. However, there's still the rising hostilities between her and Trystan which are also fun to write. :)

Just finished writing episode 7. Nothing much else to report other than I've got some irl friends to help with some of the voices. I still need more people. This is nuts. It doesn't look like I'll be able to do much work on this tomorrow due to errands and running around plus the first day of the August half of Camp NaNoWriMo. Tried it back in June but the laptop with the story had to be sent in for repairs due to smelling like it was burning plastic. I've got plenty done so Camp NaNoWriMo shouldn't put a hamper on the project. Might even restart the story I was working on.

Hi!
I love stargate so when I saw this I thought oh cool I can't wait to audition. Except one problem, my computer doesn't seem to like the links to the script or the links don't seem to work, because I can access anything except this weird video. Is it possible you could send me the scripts in another format or through skype? Let me know cause I would really want to try this out.

hello
i'm new here, are there lines that you can provide for the audition? or do the voice actor have to make up their own?
kind regards

IcesWolf25: I can certainly send them through Skype. It seemed that it was only the first episode's script that was having the issue, which appears to be fixed now.
LXEvans: You can use any lines you find in the script for any character (or characters) you want to audition for.

Sorry for not updating the page for a while. For a time, it wouldn't even load. I've been steadily finishing my collection of short stories based in Eden. I'm on the second of the 3-4 stories and things are easy going. I still wind up having to switch to my not-as-good computer during most of the day due to the fact that I lack air conditioning. I haven't really worked on the scripts since I've got plenty to work with already and I'm assisting with the sister project some. We still have loads of openings so things are still going on. I'd really like to get started on doing more than script work, but it all relies upon whether or not more people can be enticed to doing voices. This project isn't being ignored by me, not really since some of the stories from Camp NaNo among others may appear later.

So Camp NaNoWriMo is over and I got the 50k words within the month, so I won. Nothing else that is new about this project except that I'm still waiting on more people to join. I may work on more scripts, but my classes are drawing near and that means that I will be focusing more on my classes than the project but I should be able to still put in the amount of work necessary to keep this project going.
