WITHOUT EQUAL

The World...
Four years ago the Sunrock fell from the sky. Many who witnessed it found they had developed supernatural abilities afterward. They were deemed "channelers". Through careful studies of the channelers, mystics were able to discover presence of mana and eventually learn to manipulate it. Some channelers were recruited into the army, utilizing their powers on the battlefield. Other channelers quickly learned it was best to conceal their powers and live their lives as normally as possible. Those not fit for battle who still wanted to be of service permitted themselves to be studied in exchange for wealth, and naturally some channelers used their abilities for personal gain. One such channeler is a young boy named Boek Aestrin.

The Main Plot...
Boek's brother, Ahn, was drafted into the "First Lights", the Kings special task force. These First Lights are selected and trained from young ages, usually between ten and twelve. Though Boek had attempted the trials at the same time, the First Lights had recruited only Ahn, separating the brothers. Overlooked by the government and realizing he'd get no help from normal means, Boek sought out other means to be reunited with his brother. Help came in the form of renowned thief Maya Andora who took Boek on as her apprentice in crime. From her, Boek learned a whole new skill set that, he hoped, would allow he and his brother to live normal lives under new identities, invisible to the government, if he could just get his brother away from the others. The First Lights are regularly dispatched as special bounty hunters, tracking and apprehending criminals when a more stealthy approach than an armed battalion is needed. Even if he did know where Ahn was, diving into a training facility for the King's most elite warriors would be suicide. Realizing that the only time Ahn will spend away from the other First Lights is when he's tracking the kingdom's most notorious criminals, Boek sets out to reunite with his brother by becoming a bandit unlike the kingdom has ever seen before. A bandit... Without Equal!

Can you sum that up?...
Basically, a teenage thief with special powers in a medieval era tries to become as infamous as possible while dodging or battling the king's swat team, other super-powered individuals, and the occasional mythical creature.

Other info...
I'm looking to balance comedy, drama, and action enough to keep things fun at all times but still keep the characters developing. I'm going to make an effort not to use any profanity, but I reserve the right to have characters slap old ladies around whenever I feel like it. I have attempted to recruit voices for this series once before (surprising how many people are abducted by aliens as soon as they read "I'd like you to do the part" emails...) so if the name sounds at all familiar, that's probably why. Last time I didn't have pictures though. I got a few pictures now! Game changer. Though I expect most characters to speak with an American accent, accents do not bother me. If your natural accent is English/British and you just can't do any other accents, don't let that stop you from trying out. Any of these characters will work with any accent, as long as the average American can understand what you're saying.

"Boek" is...
BOEK, FOR THE SAKE OF MY CHARACTER, IS PRONOUNCED BO (like a bow tie, or bow string, or BOne) ICK (as in sICK, he's got an ICKy booger). Don't make a big pause between syllables like it's two names (trust me, I've heard people do this). The two syllables should come out about as close as the syllables in the name "Jimmy".

Onto the roles...
Name: John
http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/158/a/5/john_by_cherubas-d52ohl1.jpg
Part: John's a social worker of sorts. He's the one who takes Boek to the orphanage.
Personality: John speaks to children with that sort of fake interest/enthusiasm that a public speaker or a step dad trying to hit it off with an 8 year-old would have. You almost expect him to end every sentence with the words "champ" or "slugger".
Age: 40s
Voice type: Adult mid-low. As long as it's not too high it'll be fine.
Line 1: (Trying to get Boek's energy up) "His name is Boek and today is his birthday. Ain't that right Boek?"
Line 2: (Without Boek nearby, a more concerned tone) "There are some things I need to tell you regarding the boy's history."

Name: Mary
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/158/3/7/mary_by_cherubas-d52ohvz.jpg
Part: Mary runs the orphanage Boek is brought to.
Personality: Like John, Mary overcompensates a little in the friendly department. She deals with kids whose parents are either dead, imprisoned, or just don't want them though, so her it kind of comes with the territory. She's concerned about Boek's emotional state but tries to mask it when speaking to him.
Age: early 30s
Voice type: Adult female. Higher than a biker chick and lower than a ditzy cheerleader.
Line 1: (Trying to sound excited, just told it's Boek's birthday) "OOoooooh, Happy birthday Boek!"
Line 2: (Trying to cheer up a visibly depressed young Boek) "If you follow me Boek I'll show you where you'll be sleeping. How about that?"

Name: Jerry
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/158/4/8/jerry_by_cherubas-d52oidc.jpg
Part: The kid who "welcomes" Boek to the orphanage.
Personality: Jerry is in denial over his best friend Morrow leaving the orphanage and tries to convince himself that Morrow is coming back. While Jerry isn't a mean-spirited kid, he's hostile toward Boek who was given Morrow's bed.
Age: 10
Voice type: Midhigh-high. Jerry hasn't hit puberty yet, so a baritone voice won't work.
Line 1: (Said with a mixture of anger and alarm) "That's not your bed!"
Line 2: (Getting increasingly angry) "Morrow's coming back and he's going to need a place to sleep! That's HIS bed!"

Name: Maya Andora
Part: Boek's Yoda, but with the confidence and free spirit of someone like Lara Croft. But she's a wanted criminal for stealing some things that people really didn't want stolen. Think sort of a medieval Carmen Sandiego.
Personality: Smug. Skilled at fighting, stealing things, evading capture, and dressing up in pretty clothes to seduce guards into predictable traps where they're promptly beat down. Sort of a surrogate mother to Boek.
Age: Later 20s
Voice type: Adult female around the mid range. Slightly sultry. An attractive female voice.
Line 1: (Playing the innocent damsel with just a hint of flirtyness) "Excuse me. Could you show me to the powder room?"
Line 2: (The chips have hit the fan. It's not looking good. Speaking sternly so Boek, who can be a little childish, will know the gravity of the situation... While arrows are whizzing through the air...) "Boek, get to the nest! You hear me? The nest!"

Name: Betty
Part: Drunk old lady at a rich-people party. I haven't drawn her yet, but in my head I picture Betty White in this role. She gets a fight scene.
Personality: She's drunk. This makes her flirty and violent. She's also old.
Age: Around 60.
Voice type: Again, I totally see Betty White, but do whatever voice you feel fits a drunk old woman.
Line 1: (Preparing to give a toast in front of a group. While a little intoxicated.) "Ladies and gentlemen, I... Am drunk."
Line 2: (Said with positive excitement as she rallies other members of the party.... She's drunk and a little weird, just go with it.) "You guys tackle the bimbo and I'll decapitate the child!"

Name: Hugh
Part: Rich old fart for whom the rich-people party is being thrown. I haven't drawn him yet, but in my head I picture Andy Griffith in this role. He too gets a fight scene.
Personality: He seems level-headed enough at first, but later reveals he enjoys violence a bit more than men his age should.
Age: 60-70.
Voice type: Old man mid-low. Yes, I do picture Andy Griffith in his Ben Matlock years, but again, just follow your heart and do an old man for me.
Line 1: (Said in a friendly tone while giving a speech. Again, you'll just have to trust me on this one.) "Your saggy faces depress me. It's as if you're all melting right before my eyes, but I'm pleased that you would leave your crypts to be here tonight."
Line 2: (The fight's already started. Hugh's about to cut loose.) "You're pretty good, but let me show you what sixty-three years of the best darn training money can buy looks like!"

Name: Girl (Yeah, she doesn't even get a name.)
Part: Cute, rich teenage girl who Boek flirts with while robbing everyone else at the party.
Personality: Interested in Boek. It doesn't matter, she has ONE line. Still, gotta fill the role, right?
Age: 13 - 17. Young enough to be won over by Boek's flirtyness. I'll adjust her appearance slightly to adapt to the voice.
Voice type: It doesn't matter. It's one line for the sake of a quick pun. You could do a Nicolas Cage impersonation and still have a decent shot at this role.
Line 1: (Reassuring Maya that what Boek said about the girl's looks is true, in a "I just can't help it" kind of way.) "I AM really hot."

Name: Guard (This guy doesn't get a name either, but we like him more.)
Part: Leads the group of soldiers who surround the building Boek and Maya are robbing.
Personality: Guard-ish. He gives orders and demands unconditional surrender! He's a good guy guard though, not one of those corrupt egotistical so-and-sos!
Age: 20s. He's new, but wants to make a good impression by apprehending famous crooks.
Voice type: Around the mid range. I don't want him to have too deep a voice, cause he's a little uncertain of himself, but I don't want him to have too high a voice either, he's commanding the village's troops.
Line 1: (Orders to the troops as they approach the building with Boek inside.)"Surround the building!"
Line 2: (After Boek gets away.)"He couldn't have gotten far. Search the area!"

Audition Deadline...
I really want to get this project underway, so I'm thinking two weeks should be plenty of time for anyone interested to hurl lines at me. That makes the offical casting date June 21st.

Thanks a lot to all of you who've sent auditions so far. There's some great stuff and I have plenty of quality auditions to choose from (except for Betty who's surprisingly unpopular). For anyone who still hasn't auditioned, now's the time. The deadline is nearly here!
