View Full Version : Question for January 17th - January 23rd, 2012

Well I guess it's time for a more topical question. Since SOPA/PIPA is looking nice and dangerous I ask you.

How would it affect your life if the internet would be taken away from you? Many of us only know each other through forums/email/IM, how would a move like that affect your friendships? your potential careers?

I know it seems a little extreme, but give it a thought. I for one would be crushed. I've invested too much of my life and my enjoyment in this magical window, and taking it away from me would probably cause me to physically move to a different place. One with either an active community or with better policies about freedoms like speech.

Make sure the subject is "Question of the Week" so we know what it's for :D

It would be rather sad. I love spending most of my time online/computer, so there would definitely not be a lot to do if all of this was gone.

Yes. I think internet has been my personal center of information, not just for entertainment, but for my bills and studies too. The only thing that'd affect me more is if I didn't have electricity, now that'd be devestating

I would definitely go batshit insane, especially now that I'd have to wait until I turn 18 to get my PS3 back. Not to mention that I love being in front of the computer since most of my friends live kinda far from me and the kids in are my neighborhood are mostly around in middle school, which is why I hardly go out and socialize with them.

... That is all.

Um yeah, my normal life would still be here and it would take much longer for me to contact important people in L.A. Although not being able to talk to most of you would leave me a slimy depressed lump of goo most of the time >.> I'd probably have to get a new phone with unlimited text/weekends or something.

I'll be sad...and frustrated for various reasons like no way of getting information except the library...and that's pretty hard in itself from my experience in high school, then there's of course my studies, not being able to talk with you lot or completing a project I've been doing since last year, but my normal life is still here. I still have college and some other goals to aspire to (which...I haven't quite figured out yet sadly). Lack of internet would force me to socialize again, honestly. So, yeah....it'll be frustrating, but I'll get by.

WOW that question hit me hard!
I would be unsure of what to do to be straight. I'd spent so much time exploring the world through the windows of the net. I really like to read and research online.
More recently I have met many new people and am making new friends which is always nice. I think I have a headache just thinking about this.

Don't think I'd care much. After the withdrawal, I'd be dating more, paying more attention to people, and getting more sleep. I sincerely doubt the world would miss me @ all. :)

I think I would go through stages, honestly. First off, I'd be bored out of my brains and frustrated at the lack of readily available information regarding friends (Facebook), VA work (here, and the hopefully eventual paid positions), Cosplay (info on cons, etc, plus ready references) and the like. After getting used to it and driving my friends nuts with calling/texting, I think I'd probably become more active in the community instead of being as active online. I'd probably also paint and sew more.

I dunno. Maybe it would be a mixed good and bad thing?

I suppose I would have to go get a "real life."

No internet would put a damper on my writing as I do tons of online research while in the process of creating stories (dang, why didn't we have such reliable internet when I had to do research for school papers?) My Dubbing projects would defiantly cease...unless I did an occasional clip here and there with my husband just saved on my computer that only people that I'd see in person would see if they were interested in me showing them.

I'd have to get more stamps and envelopes to pay all the bills and go back to cutting down trees for my statements to make sure all the charges on the bank/cell/etc are legit...and keep a better record during the month to check statements since I wouldn't be able to do so as often as I do. Either more writing letters or more phone calls to compensate for the lack of email.

I grew up without internet and I am probably more social/productive now than I was back then. I'm sure I'd keep busy but no internet would still be a loss.

It would suck.
I need it for school and I just love snooping around on different sites. VA-ing would have to be put aside and god knows what more.

I think I have integrated myself to the system for much too long as the first experience I had of the net was at the age of 8. Emails, shopping, entertainment, and Jews would all come to me slower or not at all. That and I wouldn'tbe able to watch anime like the Brave Series which never had or never will get a US release.

I definitely would miss having so much information at my fingertips, but once I get over that I'm sure I wouldn't mind as much. I would definitely miss my friends that I have made. Especially since there would be no way to get ahold of them if the internet went down because I don't give out my home address online to anyone so I can't even snail mail my friends.
It would put a damper on my voice acting career since VAA is the only place I really go to do voice over projects until I either A: take acting lessons or B get the nerve to drive from my house 24 hours+ to Texas to do an audition haha And it would put another damper on my art career because my DA is my life.

I'd be really disappointed, as it would limit socialising with friends, finding information, and finding my...gentleman's literature ;)

This would be like asking me how I would go about pooping in a can (please don't ask why I made that comparison).

I would miss the information I could instantly search, have a hard time getting bargains for things I desire, and it would affect my voice acting in a different way. Plus not to mention calling and writing to everyone I get along with dandy would be one expensive time, along with having a massive wrist cramp.
