scary.
I'm always reminded of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy whenever I see a wiki. I know - I'm a geek. See? It IS mostly harmless!
Anyhow, credit goes to Matt Cruea for starting that wiki and a few others for cleaning it up. Matt did a great job of getting the gist of it down, and as before I'd like to remind anyone that it's open for subsequent additions.

Yeah, I'm pretty proud of that thingy. It was all made from memory.
Also, it was an awesome way to link to my site, www.mattcruea.com, on one of the biggest and most popular sources of information on the internet.

That is a very neat thing there!
But it needs more me in it. For as we all know, I started the whole amateur voice acting thing. All the way back in 1913. I patented it and everything. So it's all about me.
..... What? So I'm a fan of revisionist history. Doesn't mean you can't prove it weren't true! Cause your minds are all faulty and not remembering and stuph.

Not bad although the VAA was formed while VARC was still alive, :D of course it was complete crap until Danae kicked my butt into gear.

Yep and that URL still works, quite scary really.
Question: Is Sapphira another misspelling of Saphire Blue?
I think we should do a Matt Cruea page just for the heck of it.

Question: Is Sapphira another misspelling of Saphire Blue?
Answer: No. Sapphira is FLAVA Admin., and a cool girl that I've been said to sound like. o.O;; Saphire Blue is, I believe, Tamtu's (Blue's) old username.
Am I right? I'm probably wrong. XD
Well that's all cleared up. I keep forgetting there was a Sapphira. Meeeeh.
Yes, "Saphire Blue" was Blue/TamTu. XD Saphire. *snerk*
Ha ha. That's awesome.
"Quite a few AVAs have gone on to do professional work, and the opposite is also true as a few professional voice actors have found times to visit the communities."
But which professionals come here? Lol.

Well, Kyle Hebert's done some work with Maria. And... uh...
...Lucien knows Corey Burton?

A few pros used to lurk on the VAA mailing list, ;3 and I think a few skip around here every so often out of boredom.

I know James Alburger at least signed up, and Craig J. Harris introduced himself in the Hi forum. There have probably been others.

Tiffany Grant volunteered her voice for Eva-R (http://eva-r.com/). :) The audio portions of that project were primiarly cast from the AVA community. (This was before the VAA, though... maybe even pre-VARC.)

Interesting, so there was a VA board of sorts going a fair way back. Going back to the mid 1990's? Must have been a bit of a cow shunting around audio files in the mid 90's thought. I know someone who edited on his home desktop, using a top of the range PC at the time and he had to off line everything to 100mb zip files or his system would lock.
I know MP3 was invented in the mid 90's but would it have been readily available?
"January 26th, 1995 saw Fraunhofer apply for the patent of MP3 in the USA and was granted it on November 26th, 1996."
I wouldn't like to try and put a wav or aif file on a page even now (you'd be downloading it for ever). I suppose if you've got limited everything then only the good stuff gets through. Were audio productions more polished back in the day? I'd love to hear some of the first mid 90's productions.
