View Full Version : How do you describe your normal speaking voice?
GForce

Whenver I listen to an audio production from the VAA I'm beginning to reconize certain individuals in the cast without looking at the list. For example, the exact moment when Edwyn opens his mouth no matter who he's playing I know that he's the guy on the other side of the microphone.
I've always find it a challenge to describe another's voice let alone my own. However I'll give it a shot but I admit, describing others is more fun.
User: GForce
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium Low
Unique Quality: Naturally sarcastic and energetic
Characteristics: According to Steven Lim (one of the founders of lifepoint1). My voice is somewhat nasal and coarse. Aside from this it contains a slight sarcastic edge to it which sounds like I'm always delivering a one-liner or a joke whenever I speak. During moments when I get excited my voice will spike in the high range without warning. Normally I would use my normal voice for a comic relief character with similar mannerisims such as Ron from Kim Possible.
Now I'm actually gonna try analyzing somebody else's voice. This is gonna be fun.
User: Fallen339
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium
Unique Characteristic: Toby Meguire soundalike
Characteristics: Fallen's voice is very soft-spoken and non-threatening. It's easy to associate a fearful quality with his speech as the slightest quiver to it can make the guy sound like he's cowering in fear. Typically Fallen plays a lot of "nice guys" in productions as he sounds like the type of person who's really friendly and would never harm another soul.

My "normal" voice is nothing like those that I act. This actually might make a good thread. Say a few lines in character, and then say them again in your normal voice sans the acting.

It actually might make a intresting thread actually..
My "normal" voice is deeper then anyone I know.. well around my age range.. not like my old man or my uncle or someone like that...
I have somewhat of a deeper tone but just a hair away from gruff... I'm sure once I get into my mid 30's... or what not.. I'll be just like some scary guy.. >_< Althought I'm really hoping not.. =O?!

Ok I'm taking a step into uncharted territory and I'm going to try (keyword TRY) to describe Nikkita's voice since it's her request.
User: Nikkita
Gender: Female
Pitch Medium
Unique Quality: Powerful
Characteristics: Nikkita's normal speaking voice is just that, normal. It's very down Earth and doesn't possess any offbeat "quirks" if you will such as it spiking. Instead your voice possess a strong and confident quality to it.
User: AJ (Me ha ha)
Gender: Female
Pitch: low - medium
My voice is low - medium. It depends on what I say and what context I say it in. :). My normal voice also has a very slight rasp to it as well. You can only hear it when I say certain words.

Nakkita just made me think of a cool idea. If you want SOMEONE ELSE to describe your voice then say so and post a link so where we could hear it. Just be prepared to hear the unexpected. Remember, this is your normal speaking voice we're looking at. I believe that it's important to fully understand the capabilities of your normal speaking voice as that's the voice you use the most so knowing it's qualities can be extremely benificial.
ooh you can review my... Normal voice too o_O;;

I've always thought of my voice as sounding like an 'older teen with better diction.' Others who have met me may have a different take on that though, I'd be curious to know.

it'd be interesting to know if my voice is recognizable or distinct for ppl. i hardly ever use my normal voice for any roles, considering its pretty drowsy and monotonic. hence why i talk in silly voices most of the time, even in regular conversations with friends. i dont know, plus i get of tired of ppl askin me to repeat things cuz my normal voice is pretty low and they say i mumble alot. only when acting do i exert energy into my speakin and become more clearer. heh

Dude, poor G. XD
My normal voice.. well, I don't think I've heard it in a while. -_- Mine kinda ranges depending on my mood; when I'm upset, it's low and, well.. upset? And when I'm happy, I tend to get really high. At times, when I'm being jerky or sarcastic, I sound like one of my boy voices..
I'm just weird. ._.

Wow that was fast. Let's see what I can do. I don't consider myself an "expert" here I'm just a guy who likes to describe the way others talk. Also if you guys noticed, I added a "Unique Quality," feature to the list. It's just random thoughts I think of when I hear you people talk.
User: Kitty
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium or Medium High (having a hard time judging)
Unique Quality: VERY Bubbly
Characteristics: Listening to your voice Kitty I couldn't help but think of Holy Knights Margo and Haushinka as your voices have the same overall tone to it. I couldn't help but smile while I hear you talk and I was even expecting a giggle there as you sounded so cheerful. :P To over simplify things I'd say you almost sound like a valley girl but a lot less dizzier and more upbeat.
User: Lucien
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Born to Act
Characterisitcs: I used Surface as my refference for this cause I believe you truly shine there (that or the XIN series). I can see what others say about your voice as it does have a strong youthful quality to it but with more enunciation. Everytime you utter sentence, you words just scream out "I BELONG ON THE STAGE!" Your voice is enticing to listen to and can captivate the listener's attention in a heartbeat.
User: Matt Alan
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium low
Unique Quality: Level 99 Charm Skill
Characteristics: I can see why you always get the girls either as an art patron or Vega from Street Fighter. You have this gentlemenly aspect that pours out when you speak and your slight accent is a major plus as well.
User: Sukisho
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Somewhat Shy
Characteristics Don't take the quality as an insult as I'm not calling you shy at all as submitting your voice for this takes a lot of guts (not to mention signing up for this board as well). Your voice kinda reminds me of someone who is embarassed right before he lets out his nervous laugh in some wierd way. Maybe it was because of the way you said "Yeah," that's making me think this way. Once again, I'm not calling you shy at all. I'm just saying that your speaking voice gave off the implication that you were. Sorry if this is of little help to you.

I noticed you speak in burst if you will as you have moments where you speak rapidly followed by some short breaks. I do the same thing sometimes so I know where you're coming from. I can also hear that your voice periodically trails off as you mentally finish a thought and you kinda leave your words to hang in the air. I love all the sarcastic snide remarks you threw at your computer as they showed that you have a very smart mouth.

What an interesting topic! Here's a clip from Eva-R, if anyone would be so kind as to give it a listen and evaluate my voice. I used my natural pitch and inflections for the character of Aoi, so this is pretty much just plain me! (I don't think this need clarification, but since there are two people in this scene... um, I'm the girl. Hee.)
http://www.modusproductions.com/eva-r/html/radio/aoi_lyn1.wav
I haven't had a chance to listen to everyone's clips yet, but I have to say, Windy-chan, I think your natural speaking voice is very pleasant! Don't be so hard on yourself. You're not mumbly at all, and the pitch and tone are very nice. I could imagine you doing radio with that voice.
And Sukisho, the impression I get from your voice is an older teen with a contemplative and kind personality. :)

Forget that I said that. :sweat Ok onto official bussiness Mr. Bui. Like I said in the quality section, your voice has a certain "vibe" to it that I just can't put my finger on. With the slightest change in your tone you can come off as the sarcastic hero, bumbling nice guy or arrogant villan in the same line. Your voice is very sharp and straight forward as you press whaever point you want to make hard.
User: Fiona C.
Gender Female
Pitch: Female
Unique Quality: Track 1 on my relaxing CD
Characteristics: It's really hard to come up stuff right on the spot especially if you're not playing a character but OMG Fiona, you're voice is so pleasent to listen to. This is attributed your accent (which I just adore) and how laid-back you were during your recording.
User: Seishiro XVII
I can't get to your files. It says I've clicked on an incorrect link.
User: Allison Rose
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium high
Unique Quality: Can seduce male Eva pilots
Characteristics: I love your British accent but I have to say you kinda sound like a boy in your clip. (re-reads post) oops. God I'm so star-struck right now. I'm talking to AOI TAMASHI! This is so unreal. You were born to play that character Allison as I can see no one else even coming close to you. You're voice has so many elements meshed together. You make Aoi sound, perky, cheerful and even flirtatious all at the same time. Amazing!

Tamtu: I would put your voice in the 'darker-midrange' category, with a slight nasality which gives your voice some of it's lighter tones during casual, or sarcastic moments. Despite your very good English, there's still a trace of your accent that lingers, which comes up as certain 'nasal blockages' when it comes to difficulties with certain sounds, such as 'th.' There's also the occasional flub on the pronuncation or stress of an unfamiliar word. Overal, a very 'round' voice.

HiLope Review:
I percieve your voice as having a deep "radio broadcaster" quality. You have the right stuff (vocal chords that is) to do an announcer or an extremely gruff evil character. Your ability to crack your voice at certain moments gives your higher pitched, crazier characters, a lot more depth than most people. Your accent shows up just a teensy bit in some of your auditions. This is a plus point, since it gives it its unique characteristic!I've also noticed that you're great at manipulating your pitch!

Unique Quality: Darth Vader meets Patrick Stewart
Characteristics Damn man your cords can do the vocal limbo and go looooooooooow. Allison sumed up things best for you as you are not a one-trick-pony and can do higher-ptiched voices if needed to. I also noticed a slight sophistication in your file as well. Hence the Patrick Stewart comment. Though I will say, sometimes your words run into each other. It's nothing too serious but it is noticeable.

You could also play a really good villain as well. Your voice is just convincing like that.

I don’t know how to describe my own voice. I guess it’s in the medium range but I have a tendency to mumble and such, creating a unpleasant sound. Well, that and when I’m not paying attention my diction goes down the crapper. Curiosity however has gotten the best of me, I can’t resist not knowing what others think of my natural voice. Especially considering that I don’t think I’ve ever used it for any sort of acting purpose, so I don’t think anyone has heard it before.

Yea. I don't really have a voice like the ones that I do in acting. It's actually quite different!
To describe my natural voice to you... hm.... well, I may only be 14 but my real voice really doesn't describe it. Its medium pitched and kind of monotoned. Maybe a bit lower than medium pitched if I'm feeling tired or complaining.
I tend to change the pitch of my voice a lot when just talking normally. My friends all make fun of me and say that I sound like an English dub. I think that's what really got the idea into my head.

User: Fernie417

Characteristics: Talk about a voice to write home to mom about. Dude Fernie, you have the kind of voice I would never forget. Kinda gravelly but smooth at the same time.
User: Miki-Chan
Gender: Female

Characteristics: Man, I'm hearing enough cheery female voices to make me feel good for the rest of my life. I just love hearing these impromtu recording sessions and yours is no exception. I can just imagin a beaming smile on your face whenever you record Miki-chan cause you make me feel like grinning like an idiot.
User: fairuza

Characteristics: I'm getting some serious Raven vibes from your voice. You both have that same dark element in your speaking pattern. It's so creepy but in a good way.
User: Holy Knight Margo
Gender: Female
Pitch: Stuffed up medium
Unique Quality: Blame the cold cause this is scary!
Characteristics: That cold has done something to your voice that has made my jaw drop. I hope you watch the Grim Adventrues of Billy and Mandy cause right now you sound JUST LIKE JUNIOR (the kid with the green eyes and who can transform into stuff). I mean it Margo, try to get a sound clip of the guy or find someone who knows what I'm talking about because you got a dead-on impression of this guy without even trying.

Howdy, ever'body! I thought I'd take a few minutes to comment on the voices I was able to listen to... but it turns out to be a really difficult thing to describe people's voices... so I just gave it my best... I apologize in advance for not giving your voices more proper reviews...
fernie417 - very deep, mumbly and shy-sounding. Sounds like you could handle medium to deep voices fairly easily.
fiona - very cute and conversational. Not sure if I think the voice is cute or the accent is cute, but I think it's some of both. When you get to the Harry Potter lines, the accent remains cute but I can barely understand a word of it without really straining my brain.
HiLoPe - deep and resonant.
jaychan - an almost high voice that could fit just about anywhere in the age range of 10-20. and pleasant to listen to.
Lila - wow. scary. you are most definately a voice actor, because... uh... most people's normal speaking voices don't sound like cartoons. and very cute.
margo - got a kinda boyish sound goin on, I think. fairly low and almost gravelly.
aj/april - yep, there's an accent... or at least regional pronunciations and inflictions are noticeable... or something like that. very conversational and fun to listen to. and makes me crave a chicken microwave buritto and cranberry juice.
miki - very light and bubbly.
Seishiro17 - very casual & smooth.
Sukisho - short clip, but sounds kind of cartoony to me.
windy - very pleasant to listen to. kinda raspy there at the end. very cute.
GForce - you've got a kind of cool voice that's fun to listen to... something I would expect to come out of a teenage rocker. :o) And you DO at points sound quite a bit like TamTu Bui.
Okay, and here's me for anyone who wishes to take the time to listen:

My natural voice is monotonous and somewhat nasal, I think. What do YOU think?

You've got a neat sort of low, calm voice that I'd expect to come out of a big, burly police officer/ex-con/thug/PE coach kind of guy. When you're saying your name, though, you sound more like a radio DJ. ;)

Your laid-back, normal voice is PERFECT for delivering smart-ass, biting, sarcastic remarks. I could see you playing a role where the guy is most likely thinking "I am surrounded by IDIOTS." I could also see you playing the guy who's just really cold and unfeeling. Having a monotonous voice ain't so bad!

Yes, you do sound like a 12 year old. Although, with certain tones you do sound closer to your age. Which means you've probably got a pretty good range for character voices. :D I'm hearing the excited and playful voice of a 12 year old. MechanicalPixie - very cute voice. you sound like an animated character! and you don't talk weirdly as far as i can hear.
Sailor Erin - your voice is very friendly and conversational. interesting the way you mix the languages. your english sounds very much like american english... i would have expected more of an (non-american) accent. lots of fun to hear you speak. :D

User: f_k12
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Relaxed
Characteristics: You sound like someone who just got out of bed and ploped in front of their microphone to do a few lines. Just kidding. However, you do sound EXTREMELY relaxed and that's attributed to the fact that you some times stretch some of your words out a little longer than usual and it gives off that feel. Wish I was that calm in real life.
User: Mindychan
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium high
Unique Quality: Dang you sound young!
Characteristics: Once again I have to say....DANG YOU SOUND YOUNG! You were not kidding in your post when you said this as you can so play teenagers convincingly. That is so wild that your voice is actually ten years younger than you are.
User: Sangre666
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium low
Unique Quality: A little boyish
Characteristics: Just a quick tip. Try not to be so close to your microphone while recording as it's picking up your breathing. There's nothing wrong with your voice. I truly believe that every voice a VA has can be put to use as long as they are portraying the right character. Listening to you I can say that you don't sound too "girly" and I feel like you can play tomboy characters in your sleep. This voice is really cool in my honest opinion so don't be so harsh.
User: MechanicalPixie
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Chibi Syndrom
Characteristics: Dang, those chibi roles got you good. Now instead of a "normal" voice you got a strange blend of sarcasm, cuteness and childish antics behind your speech pattern. This mix of traits has given your voice a very distinct vibe to it so you should take it as a blessing as you sound very memorable.
User: Sailor Erin
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Crazy consistancy
Characteristics: The craziest thing I find about this is that you have the same voice and mannerisms when you speak both Arabic and English. Normally one can dectect a slight change during a language switch but there's none with you. That's just awesome!

shucks, you have sooo much noise going on in the background, you know first you should invest in a better mic, or even noise reduce it if you can. (This is just advice for auditions and stuff)
Your voice how ever I really enjoyed listening to. You have this special thing in your voice which i really like, and it's this "chalky" feature in your voice. This can be used in many characters that are layed back and are never surprised by anything going on around them.

I'm not gonna record my normal voice right now, since I have a sore throat and a cold and am just plain tired and it would sound awful. I know I've said this before, so I'll say it again. I don't think "natural voices" really exist. Or at least, in my case this is true. My voice constantly changes pitch, rate, volume, etc. It depends on who I'm talking to, how tired I am, and my mood (like, if I'm being serious or am excited/hyper). I also tend to speak higher and girlier when I'm talking to guys. Unless I'm talking to a guy I really dislike. Then I'm a lot lower and a lot more monotone. If I'm excited, my voice is loud and high. If I'm calm, I'm lower. If I'm talking to my parents, I'm reeeally low. In fact, it's really funny to listen to me talking to my parents in the middle of the conversation. I'll be recording a song in a really soft/"melodious" (I guess you could say...) voice, and then my mom will say something and I'm like "YEAH?" and... ok, I'll just shut up now. My point is that I have no "natural" voice. :D

just wanted to say that I totally agree with you--my voice changes all the time, depending on my mood & who I'm talking to. there's no way to get an accurate test, really.. in my clip, I just talked the way I was feeling at that time, & didn't care really about impressing anyone.
I dont think I've ever heard my real speaking voice. I automaticaly go into voice acting mode when I know a mic is on.
I did hear my real voice when I was little and it sounded nothing like I thought it did.
Most of the time when I do a voice it sounds just as I said it.
So I suppose my real voice sounds like the one I hear in my head now...Or does it???

Chichiri Miko: It's funny, no matter how monotone you make your voice sound, it's quite intersting to listen to. I really like the characteristics of your voice, cause it's like all over the place. I can see you do many young guys in anime, by the deepness of your voice. I also loved what you did toward the end, where you had this matureness in your voice. I could really see that element come in use for like "punk" or "dude" girls, if it's a good way to put it.

Oh, and pretty decent American accent you did there.
Shin: You're hard to hear in that clip, but I'm hearing a kind of raspy quality and a very relaxed tone. I imagine you playing a character who gets much enjoyment out of a bar brawl -- the type who both starts and ends the fight, then celebrates and finds another fight.
And upon listening a second time, I can also hear the similarities to Ikari. But that was not my first thought. That was a thought influenced by GForce's review. Yeah.
Peterodl: Amazing voice. Perfectly suited for storytelling, I think. It has... I guess a kind of fatherly feeling, a voice you could listen to for long periods without going nuts. Also would be a good movie trailer voice, as somebody mentioned. :D
Chichiri Miko: I love the fluctuations in your tone, and the way you draw out your sentences. I don't know what you sounded like before, but you sound pretty cute to me. :D

Thank you for your comments, Pyro. I can only hope to live up to that picture as time goes on.
And thank you as well, G-Force for taking the time to review my voice. I have no doubt that your ears are quite trained, by the way. Although I would like to say otherwise, I don't have a natural New York accent, only the heart (I'd like to think). And I will admit that the small little jersey segment in there was pretty dull-sounding rather than usual, so don't blame that on your ears. You heard right :D.
I was going to try and give my take on everyone's voice as well but unfortunately I don't always have a way with my words, and now is not one of the times that I would. But I appreciate your comments and I will return the favor.

Characteristics: Man Xero, you're frekin crazy man. Remind me never to beat you in DOA so I would suffer your wrath. I think most of my analysis is reflected on the chaotic nature of your recording conditions so don't take this the wrong way. I could see you playing characters who would just blow their top off and start yelling and screaming about all the things in their life that would piss them off.

Ari your voice is very cool, before I read any other comments on it I was already thinking about the fact that you have Irish intonation in places, rather than Russian though I'd say more Scandanavian accent in places too. I've lived in Finland and visited Sweden and Russia a lot from there and there are definite likenesses.
Right I couldn't be bothered to format this all properly, no noise reduction or anything as I'm starting to almost feel tired (good thing too as I should be up for work in 3 hours time) but I wanted to put this here link to my natural voice avec sore throat & cold to see what people think. Thank you both, I'm glad you like my voice. I'm hoping to be doing a lot of stuff here so you should be able to here it on a project at some point...I've already been asked to record a few lines for something.
Actually if you have any advice in teaching yourself to control your voice into different accents I'm all ears. I know I can do it, I just think maybe it's a practice issue, the more I practice the better.
Fairuza: I think I can understand why people have likened you to Raven, who is by far the best of the Teen Titans (I have to say that, she's the most like me and if I ever lose enough weight I will be cosplaying her), it's the breaks you give whilst you're speaking, added to this is the fact that you often lower the tone of your voice on the last word before the gaps in speaking and draw them out. But I *really* think you could put your voice into at least one character from Invader Zim really easily. Probably because it's unscripted you've done a really good job of sounding like Gir at the end of your sound clip, he's probably a little higher than your normal voice but everything else was definitely there. Nah realistically you have a very good voice for Gaz - see the best characters from both shows - don't believe me? Try listening to these...

Characteristics: Due us all a favor and pick up fairytale book and start reading it to us. You'll be putting our minds at ease before we're wisked away to dream land. Serriously, we're short on female narrartors so be on the look out for those roles as you can NAIL the auds in your sleep.
User: Gryphon
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: The speed demon
Characteristics: You weren't kidding when you say you talk fast Gryphon and that's something you should watch out for when you audition for characters. With that said I get the whole "spazzy female lead" vibe from you. Especially when this sort of character rants about what an awful day she had or how much the world sucks.
User: Henagashi
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: Matt Alan vibes
Characteristics: This is just too scary. When I heard your voice I swear I thought you sounded very similar to Matt Alan with your slight accent and easy-going attitude. However, your voice is very distinct in it's own right so don't worry about this comparrision. On a side note, you scared me when you went really high as you sounded JUST like my ex-girlfriend whenever she would talk like that. I think my heart skipped a beat out of shock.
User: TripleArrow
I would have a much easier time if you just recorded yourself speaking into the microphone normally as I would have a good chunk of your voice to analyze.
-------------
Also sifting through the old posts, I noticed that there was one user who asked to have his voice analyzed by someone else other than me but was overlooked so I'm posting his clip here. Now this is was an audition he did so essentially he's acting a character but it does a great job of showcasing how he really sounds like. Hope you guys have fun reviewing his voice!

the-mental-one - Read me a story!!! Or anything. Textbook'll work. Wow, I could listen to that voice for hours.
Henageshi - Queen of Highness. The way she makes those transitions from normal to high was kinda freaky. And that low voice -- I had to turn down my bass cause the room was just shaking... yeah, okay, not really. But I do think you's got a pretty cute voice.
Fallen399 - Toby Macguire of the VAA? Yeah, that works. This was a short clip, and more of a demo than a normal speaking clip, so I can't properly guage the voice. I don't have those mad reviewin' skills like my man G.
Kitty Kat - My Master's Voice! Kat sounds a bit tom-boyish and very outgoing and self-confident. She also sounds like she might be doing promo spots for TNT when she's not working on her radio play. A very smooth and rich voice. Very clear and fluid speech. Masterful use of the word "yeah." Always nice to hear ya, Boss!

I really have no idea how to describe my normal speaking voice, to me it’s fairly odd. Not too girl-ish or boy-ish, somewhere in between. Well, that’s what I think anyways.
It would be interesting to hear what other people think of it though.

Hehe, you really think so? I've never done voice acting... mostly cuz I never concidered it cuz I hate my voice XD. Though, after holding auditions and everything, I have been interested, hehe. I could always try out for a character if you want. But I have no idea who I would try out for, so i would need some help there <.< >.>

12-06-2005, 03:11 AM
Yeah, I think it's common to dislike your normal voice. I posted about this before some recent ones got deleted, but I used to think I could never be a VA before realizing that most people change their voices to make them sound anime-ish.
BTW, you wouldn't have to "try out" for anybody - with that series I write the characters to fit their voices, for instance I write Ryuusuke's lines with Seiyru's voice in mind, so I'd do the same for your character. If you'd like, PM me and we can come up with something.

As always Seiyru you're quite the energetic one. Really enjoyed listening to your clip, listened to it twice actually because it was damn entertaining. Not that I think your normal-speaking voice is a milestone towering over your other voices, but I can see why people cast you with your normal voice. It is very appealing. At one point I realized (or at least I think) that you would do pretty well in narration as well.

Sorry, that was off topic. Yeah I find it amazing how much Seiyru's voice reminds me of Richard Cox. *glomps Chris Mimori-style* I think people ask you to use your natural voice because it's so anime-ish and..well, good. I'm probably guilty of that with the description I gave you for Ryuusuke, but the thing is, your natural voice just fits it so well for lots of things.

I can't really describe my voice. Its tone can frequently change. Sometimes I speak with a little bit of a hickish accent, and other times I speak with my native New York accent. I usually tend to drag out my speech a bit to make it more "charming," and my tone is mid to low.
I'll post a sample as soon as I get off my lazy duff and get a mic.-CSM

Hmm... I'm not sure how I'd describe my voice. Medium to low; I'm definitely a bass when I sing, though I can do some baritone parts if they don't stretch too far. I'd like to think it's fairly smooth for the most part, though there's a little gravel occasionally, more if I'm tired of course. People have said they like my readings in church or wherever. I don't feel I have much of an accent, but then that always depends on what area your listener's from, too. Apparently, since I started acting things out, I've picked up a slight tinge of British when I read as opposed to speak, because that's what I've taught myself to do and use the most (reading Harry Potter, The Hobbit, etc). No idea whether someone who's actually British would say the same, though. Anyway, how's about I just post my clip, and you can see what you think. Here goes (http://media.putfile.com/My-Normal-Voice55).
And here (http://media.putfile.com/My-Voices-Demo) is me going through a few ways to change my voice, just for comparison.

I really don't know what my voice sounds like. I just know I have a slight New York accent and yeah. I guess it's medium. You guys tell me what you think. Natural Voice (http://media.putfile.com/Natural-Voice69)

My voice is medium-very high.
Ha, I always thought I sounded sexy whenever I spoke to myself. Then I listened to a recording and realized my voice was really whiny, nasally, and annoying.

Man I've been away from this thread for too long. Well serves me right for being so lazy. Here we go.
User: Cordelia
Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality: A bit "stuffy"
Characteristics: Don't take offense to the fact that I said your voice sounds as if you were stuffed up. It's just that I lacked a better term for it. When I listened to your file, I noticed that you had similar qualities as Serena as I couldn't help but think of her voice as well. You don't have the stereotypical overly-cute anime girl voice and I can see you play more down-to-earth sensible female roles.
User: Galidan
Gender: Male
Pitch: Low
Unique Quality: Badass and gruff
Characteristics: Well my friend you better start auditioning for some villians and characters with a rugged voice like Solid Snake of Metal Gear Soild fame. With a voice like that you can nail these type of roles in a heartbeat.
User: ZidanTribalFF9
Gender: Male
Pitch: Medium Low
Unique Quality: Quick witted and sharp
Characteristics: A voice that's very rapid and is not afraid to pull its punches when it comes to delivering raw emotion and energy.

Gender: Female
Pitch: Medium
Unique Quality:Easy going
Characteristics: Your voice is very laid back (wonder how many times have I said this) and your mannerisms followed suit.

I'm pretty tired right now. I'll do the rest when I feel better sorry if I didn't get to your voices just yet.

I know for a fact that my voice is deepier and huskier than the average female's, sometimes even scratchy. Might be getting Bogart-Bacall Syndrome or something equally horrible.
As for Edwyn: I was watching a flash movie of 8-bit Theatre and knew the minute Black Mage opened his mouth that it was Edwyn. :: clings ::

Yeah I know necropost, but I've noticed that there are a lot more new VAA members posting here ever since the thread lost its "hot streak" so I thought a mini revival was in order just to see we can stir up a bit more activity.

Like nails scratching against a poofy cloud.
By the way, you think you could do my voice when I get the sample, Gforce? I find it very intruiging.
It's this...ugly, medium to medium low sounding voice from the pit of Hell. D: I talk...like this...sorta...in real life sometimes. Sometimes. It annoys me so. TT_TT

My normal voice sounds...snake-like.
Dopey. The monotonous bass tone of my voice usually tends to make me sound dumber than I'm actually are. Doesn't help that I have such a slurry dialect.
That's one reason I like voice acting, really. It helps me with my diction and whatnot.

Please, tell me that was a joke. [Grammar nazi]
My usual voice is um...quite low compared to most of the characters I've voiced. My accent apparantly makes me sound quite harsh too but I dunno how it really sounds to others.

I think I have some kind of nasally complex going on. :I My normal voice sounds pretty childish in my opinion. I don't use much inflexion, so when I speak normally I sound gravelly and somewhat monotone.

My voice is pretty nasally, and kind of rough when I yell. I'm normally pretty soft spoken and monotone...most of the time. A little lower than how most people hear my voice though.

I'd say that my normal voice is a bit deep and has a Southern accent into it like a lot of people said, although I'm really from St. Louis. Honestly, I don't really know how I adopted that accent. =/ Maybe it's because my uncles live in Texas and I have gone to Texas before.
When I speak normally, I usually speak quietly and calmly since I am really laid-back and quiet. I guess the way I speak is based on my personality. xD

My voice is rather androgynous - kind of boyish, kind of girly. It's somewhat low and occasionally has a nasal tinge to it. My accent (Cultivated Australian) makes me sound a bit snooty.
Please, tell me that was a joke. [Grammar nazi]
If you have to ask, then I'm gonna say it wasn't... dawg 8-)

Hmmm, my regular voice is...different. I can't really place a range on it, I'd say sorta like professional business teenager sounding (if that makes any sense) All in all I'm content with my regular voice, though it sounds kinda funny.
