Hi! Cydonia here with this week's question! :3

- - Have you ever shown your family your voice overs? Do they approve of it?

I have. Even more so lately, actually, and they love seeing what I do, so yeah, they approve of it.

My dad's had some acting experience in the past, so he's kinda interested in how these dubs are done and how people audition for them and whatnot, and I really enjoy showing them stuff I'm in whenever new dubs are released.

Yes I have! And they do. I sometimes do voice overs with my family as in my brother or sister. They enjoy doing it but only for fun really. Its thanks to me they got into it and I'm personally really glad I did! It gives me much more motivation in voice acting when I have a family to encourage me on! :>

I've shown my parents several. My mother's favorite is the "Is This a Zombie?" fandub I did for McTricky with TheCheetoBandito. And why wouldn't it be? I mean, I'm only playing a dude in drag, so...

I actually had my mom do some narration before. She loved it! :)

My dad is cool with it and he and his girlfriend support me with it. My mother...she calls it a waste of time and kinda hates me doing it but I don't live with her anymore so ah well. My dad's gf is the only one to ever hear me in something and she loved it.

The most I get from my parents is "Oh that's nice."

They actually think it's pretty lame unless i'm making money.

I've shown both my parents and they actually when i first started were very blunt in telling me that it wasnt that great, that in the long run i'm thankful for this as it made me want to get better ^^ My more recent stuff my parents really enjoy and comment about how much i've come along.

This is my story, too.

Mine know I do it, they don't really care much.. I don't believe I've ever actually shared anything with them though.

I feel like I was planning to show them at some point, but I wanted it to be something that wasn't just like an anime fandub. Unfortunately it took me a while to be in anything worthwhile, and by that point my mother had made it perfectly clear how she feels about my voice acting. Needless to say, she doesn't support me at all. My dad does, although he's never seen anything I've been in either, so I guess it's just for the sake of being a supportive parent, which I appreciate.

I'm sure moving out to where the work is will be such a treat, with everything my mother has to say to me.

This is the case with my mom and stepdad except he goes on a long rant about how I'm gonna use this in the future, is the money good, and so on but my dad seems to like that I do this. I showed him my Zero Reel very recently via Facebook by the way. Then again he's been very supportive on the things I do for as long as I can remember, which makes me feel very happy.

No, and if I did, it wouldn't be fandubs.

Well, in general, my family is a mix of apathy and some sort of support.

My grandma has done something similar back when she was a bit younger, so she seems to tolerate me. There was one time where she pointed out a voice I did was forced. But, that's pretty much all I hear from her ever since. She tolerates me. My aunt doesn't care. My cousin that lives with me...I can't tell sometimes. Since he took choir, he'd always show off around me doing voices that I couldn't do. Or, he'd just be him and mock me sometimes. My other cousin is pretty much, "Yeah, go for it." In worst moments, my family would try and stop me, because I'm loud (god knows HOW many times I'd like to silence them every time they argue). My mom seems to support me, though. Showed an animation short I was in, and she liked it. She also seemed to support my "voice acting's the plan A that I'm treating like a Plan B thing" (I'm taking pharmacy classes right now). My stepdad doesn't really mind it at all.

My siblings have heard some of my work before, yes. And, for a time, my sister Kimilynn was an active VA on this site as well.

There's no real incentive for a "approval" though, because I haven't really approved of it myself. XD

Family supports what I do, but do not understand why I do it.

My family doesn't care that I voice act. They have no problem with it. They haven't listened to my voice overs, but I've just started, and so eventually they'll probably hear'em.

With my folks I'm at that point that I do so many things as a hobby they have trouble keeping track. They aren't invested in any of my hobbies (except cooking, apparently!) but they do comment on it.

[s]After you've dated a few voice actors and introduced them to your folks, it gets kinda hard to ignore.[/i]

At this point I've shown them some of the work I get paid to do. These days I have lost a lot of my "lookit what I did Daddy!" tendencies after being met with so much apathy for my other hobbies.

Nowadays it's more them hearing things on TV or the radio and asking me "was that you?" I much prefer it that way. :)

My nieces, on the other hand...they eat my anime shit up. ;)

I have shown them something in the past. Mostly to my mom actually cause my dad doesn't care at all. My mom only says great job, that's it :P
They are happy for me though when I tell them I've got a new part in a project. And they do leave me alone when they hear me talk in the living room.

My mom approves. She got me a mic out of the blue and said if I was going to take this seriously, I needed a better mic. She also got me a popfilter and didn't even complain. SHOCK.

But, it's not like she cares a whole bunch.. She asked to see some of my voice work, though C:. And she couldn't even pick out which voices I was. 8-)

My sister knows I do it, and she hears me most of the time recording XD. She has never even asked to see anything >_> whatagreatbuddy, huh

Ehhhh. I have...and it doesn't go so well XD; They say it's a complete waste of time.

"Nicole. ARE YOU STARTING ANOTHER PROJECT?!"

I've shown my whole family everything I do and they wanna see more. They're just happy to see my voice in anime and video games. I get so proud of myself when I see their faces and it's a great confidence boost...especially since my nanna and mom watch anime^^.

My folks know that I voice act, but I deliberately choose not to show them what I'm doing, and I have no clue why, it's just seems a bit awkward to me. Though I have showed my sisters and cousins (generally, the older relatives that can still relate to me) the work that I do. They've all approved of it so far, as it's something that they know I have a passion for and that I have fun doing. Which is definitely nice, I guess. xD

I show my family the professional work I do. It's far easier to show things on DVD/TV than it is to show things on the computer to them (older, eye sight shot, etc). They also get to hear my demos. I didn't think my dad was going to like it, but he's really proud of the work I do. He even brags about it to strangers which gets awkward since most of the time they don't even know what anime is lol

Stuff from here really doesn't get shown, not even the things I produce. Mostly that's for the above reason, but also because it doesn't really occur to me to show them.

When talking to other people about it, my mom pretends to care.

Otherwise she and my step-dad thinks it's stupid and think that the voices I do are stupid.

I show a lot of my relatives what I've been doing or done. My parents always wanted me to be an actress -- I wanted to be a game designer, but I soon figured out I was horrible at both visual art and math/coding! When I found the VAA and voice acting I fell in love and it made me want to be an actress. My parents were thrilled that I changed my mind to their first thoughts, hahahaha.
Every Christmas I make a CD with an audioplay or drama on it for my parents, relatives, and friends to listen to. Last Christmas it was a "Christmas Mystery"; it's usually just comedic with Christmas undertones, but they all love it (well they appear to).
They know I don't get paid for VAA work and stuff, but they are happy that I'm throwing myself into new things and trying out voice acting, because I want to be part of my future career. I'm very thankful they are so supportive of what I do. I don't know what I'd do without their support.

I've never shown my family any form of my voice acting. The closest they've ever seen/heard is probably when I'm recording [withthedoorclosed].

I did share some background info about projects/details about a role I snagged to my younger brother. Since he's planning on attending college as a Theatre major, I figured it was safe enough to mention VAing :P

I mostly keep anything I do online on the down-low, but advertise it quite freely on Facebook and other forms of "public sites". There's never any guarantee that a family member catches whiff of my VA projects, but I do know my bf notices them now and then :)
