Now I'm sure many of you have heard, or maybe even attempted yourself, a type of reverb using freeware or shareware software like Audacity. More than often this turns out echoey, slightly doubled, or has too much of a "singing in the shower" like sound to it.

If the above describes you or someone you know, I have finally found a VST that will solve all your problems (well there may be exceptions... who knows >.<).

The reverb VST is called Ambience and you can get it here: http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/#Ambience

I am currently using the VST with Audacity and it works great. I imagine it would also be compatible with other Audio Editing software. The plugin for mac is an Apple Audio unit, which is different from a VST but works pretty much the same. The VST version is also available for older macs (pre intel)

Ambience has many presets that you can use, in addition to controls that you can make your own reverb effect with. I suppose if you don't know how to use reverb controls that you could just play with it until the preview gives you the desired effect.

Setting Used: Pady-Vocal-Easy

Another setting from the same plugin was used on ConVito's voice for reverb in the dub. I think it was Amoebe-Hall (I dont' remember if that was it).

Nice Free Reverb Plugin

You mentioned it was Windows only, but there are definitely several mac downloads on the link you included.

Here are some other free reverbs if you would like to try out some others as well.

Also since you are singing, you might want to play around with delays as well.
Here are some free Delays

I tend to prefer convolution reverbs, myself; such reverbs take the acoustics of a recording, and map them onto a different recording with excellent effect. With appropriate samples, you can essentially duplicate accurate acoustics of specific locations or location types.

I use the Guitarix "jconvolver" plugin myself, but I'm sure there are others available for other platforms. In Windows, I'm aware of the Freeverb3 (http://freeverb3.sourceforge.net/) plugin which can keep several IR presets at once. As for the samples mentioned, the Open Impulse Response Library (http://irlibrary.org/) is a huge database of downloadable samples in several categories, including large halls, small rooms, plate reverbs, and reverbs produced by specific gear. The Freeverb site itself has links to other places where you can get even more samples to play with.

Enjoy!

Convolution reverb is great. I have two:

Dreamverb - UAD2 Proprietary
Reverence - Cubase 6

There's also the ever popular Altiverb that's out there, or if you got some money to waist (and aren't giving to me lol), there's a couple of Lexicon units out there.

I haven't tried any of the freeware solutions above, but I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents :)

Hi there :D For some reason this Plug-in isn't showing up in Audacity. I'm using version 2.2, and have downloaded and extracted the files to the right folder, but it's not showing up in the actual program. I'm running on Vista btw. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

You have to put it in the plugins folder WITHIN the audacity folder. If you just generally install it, it won't work in audacity, but it will work in almost any other program.

So locate your audacity folder and install it there. If you still experience troubles, look up installing VST plugins on audacity's website.

(If its in the right folder, you may just need to install VST bridge to get it to find the plugins)

I had this same problem too here are the steps....

1.) Download your VST Plugin

2.) Move that VST into your Audacity Plugin folder by going to: My Computer/Program Files/Audacity/Plugins

3.)Open Audacity

4.) If it's still not there, in Audacity go to:
1.} Edit/Preferences/ scroll to Effects/ Under VST Effects,
2.} Check "Rescan VST effects next time Audacity is Started"

That should work. If it still doesn't, then restart your computer and try again.
