Victory City, once called the city of the future, finds itself at the center of events. It is a city on the verge of a renaissance, a super-human renaissance. No one is sure of the catalyst that caused them, but there is no questioning the so-called "New Generation" will soon become a major part of everybody's life. These are the tales of the people that make up this generation and those that fear being left behind.

The story, though based on comic books, will be a grounded story about the human condition and the downsides of having power. The narrative is in a film noir style, so certain characters have a ton of dialogue (serving as “narrators”). There with be combat, but the main focus is on the characters, how they interact, and the situations they face as they deal with the decisions they make every day and the evils that inevitably rise when given power and/or reason. It will be violent at times, deals with inner demons frequently, and has occasional “mature” scenes, which vary from “CSI” to mildly "slasher movie" in nature (though only rarely, if ever, graphic). Some characters will also use strong language. Many of the villains are depraved psychopaths, ranging from raving violent killers to mad geniuses.

Main Characters:

Code Name: Not a superhero... at first.
Real Name: Katsumi “Kat” Machinose (pronounced Cat-sue-me Ma-chee-no-say)
Age: early 20s
Bio: The daughter of a long line of proud martial artists and philosophers, she grew up under the “oppression” of overbearing parents and had the various disciplines of combat, etiquette, and culture drilled into her from an early age. She resents her parents for this, and has been “acting out” against their teachings since she was a teenager by dressing up in goth style and hanging out with the wrong crowd in what she assumed was the city's dark side. Early on she is a bit naive and bratty, trapped in the mentality of a teenager despite being in her twenties. She grows up quickly after meeting Templar, and soon realizes the world isn't as she sees it. Katsumi is intrigued by Templar, his abilities, and the work he does, and her journey into his world is comparable to Alice stepping through the looking glass. Katsumi is easily one of the most important characters in the series, serving as somewhat of an “audience surrogate”, acting as a sort of “morality chain” for Templar, and being a major element in the origin of his arch-nemesis. She eventually becomes a hero herself. She eventually leaves the series (but may at some point return) but this is not for quite a while.
Played by: Mippa

Code Name: Templar
Name: Billy Darc (pronounced “Dark”)
Age: mid-20s
Bio: A silent and brooding fellow that stalks the streets as the vigilante/detective “Templar” using his power and remarkable martial arts skills to solve crimes. His past is a mystery at first, only revealed to be the opposite of what would normally make a hero. Under the surface he is very kind and has a strange sense of humor. Rather than being blessed with a superpower, he is more 'afflicted' with one. The power of enhanced empathy, to the point of it being an extra sense. Like most senses, he can't shut it off, so he constantly experiences the pain, suffering and evil around him. Rather than run from it, he dives right into the (metaphorical) abyss, to make the world a better place. His powers are a constant weight on his sanity, and he has a darker, violent side to his personality. Also, his powers aren't exactly what they appear at first. Even Templar has the wrong impression about what he is.
AUDITIONS STILL OPEN
Played by: (unless a better audition is received) SELF
Work Involved: Medium. In nearly every episode but isn't always the narrator. Though often monotone, this role is complicated to perform at times and one of the harder roles because of occasional atypical inflections in his speech, needing to communicate a lot in few words, and sometimes rapid transition between emotions. If cast expect a lot of coaching.
Voice Type: Medium-low. A slightly lyrical tone to speech would be helpful but isn't required.
Line 1: (record four separate times in the same file with the four following tones: Annoyed, Neutral, Sympathetic, Pained Regret as you put the person out of his misery) I know.
Line 2: (neutral but with a slight annoyance at having to explain it) It's natural to do this. What about my situation do you not understand? I can see the darkness in every soul around me, every single reason that every human is disgusting and terrible. Putting aside the few exceptions to this that are worth protecting, what about trying to improve the view is so unbelievable?
Line 3: (neutral) There... they took him there, (slightly out of it, increasingly methodical) dragged by the collar probably, slammed him against the coffee table, foot to the gut, a slap. He didn't struggle anymore. What little struggle he managed before then was useless. The attacker was too strong... superhuman. (suddenly fall to knees in dizzy nausea) Ugh... (swallow hard to slightly regain bearings) Victim... there was one before (flinch) Ah! (sadness that transitions to anger) They... they took everything! Everything that matters!
Line 4: (a cold-burning rage, like a barely controlled, logical beserker fury) No... I'm not angry and I'm not going to fight you.... (sneer) I'm going to completely unmake your entire being. (is attacked but deflects it easily with a quick and amused) Hmph. (strikes enemy as if striking down a defiant peon) (proclaim, enjoying the slaughter) You wanted anger? You can't even fathom what you awakened!

Code Name: Exemplar (doesn't take this name on for a few episodes)
Real Name: Owen Ester
Age: mid 20s
Bio: The man who becomes Templar's arch-nemesis, Owen Ester is at first glance a harmless rich boy and jock. The kind of person that all the other people in school hated out of envy. At the start of the series, he is Kat's bad-boy boyfriend and the two frequent underground fighting competitions, where his skills as a brawler and seemingly unmatched physical ability leads to him dominating. Behind the mask of the rebellious rich boy is a depraved lunatic (probably the second sickest individual in the entire series) that delights in causing suffering and furthering the decline of others into sorrow and depravity. Kat is completely unaware of this side at first, but quickly becomes aware of it when Templar unwittingly provokes him. Owen is a recurring villain and the first person in the series able to not only fight evenly with our hero, but overpower him. At first it seems his physical prowess is the result of a drug he was taking, but it is later revealed that he has a potent superpower that he wasn't even aware he was using: the power to be better than his opponent at one thing at a time. Thus he can be faster, stronger, or tougher than his opponent, and later still it is revealed that he can do this with more than just physical ability, making him one of the most dangerous super-humans on the planet. Thus he names himself “Exemplar” both in reference to his power and to mimic Templar's name.
Work Involved: Medium, with a decent amount of dialogue usually, but not appearing in every episode. Voice type: Medium. Typical college jock kind of voice. Uses strong language without hesitation (but not constantly).
Audition line 1: (condescending, amused) Oh come on, did you really think you were any match for someone like me?
Audition line 2: (as a bully goading someone to inflict pain) Come on! Do it! You won't believe the rush! The overwhelming feeling of power!(growing maliciousness) End him! Right now! KILL HIM!
Audition line 3: (villain speech) You can't win, not forever. I hold all the cards! I'm better than you could ever be! (chuckle) If you are 'Templar', then I will be... EXEMPLAR! The greatest example of something! (delighted) My power... your name... it fits! It fits so well it could only be destiny! It was fate that brought us together, Billy, and who are we to fight fate? Instead, we should just fight each other!

Minor Characters:

Real Name: Jimmy "the Mouth" Southerland
Age: late 20s
Bio: Primarily he is the owner and commentator of an underground fighting ring called "the DUI" (Deep Underground Insurrection). However, Jimmy has his hands in all sorts of shady things (not to mention some things that are worse than just shady). Though a minor character at first, his involvement in criminal activities of various scales and the very events creating the "New Generation" make him a recurring character and eventual major villain. Though not a super-human, particularly good at fighting, or all that smart, Jimmy is very clever and lacks the weakness of basic human decency.
Work Involved: Light at first. Jimmy appears in person only rarely despite his significance, but the more important he becomes the more frequently he will have dialogue.
Voice: His voice and appearance is like that of Johnny Knoxville, with the mannerisms of pro-wrestling personality Jimmy Hart (who I based the character's name on), though not cowardly at all. Uses profanity while being showy.
Audition line 1: (playing the ringmaster) Ladies and gentlemen... wait who am I kidding? Jerks of all genders, I'm your master of ceremonies, your sultan of spectacle, and the Mouth that can only speak the word of the one true god: the ring!
Audition line 2: (commentary, all smiles despite looking at a bloody spectacle) OH MY GOD! It's over already! Somebody get a doctor, I think he just might be dead!
Audition line 3: (villian speech) I know that look. I get it a lot. (chuckle) You see... you've made the same mistake that so many others make. In fact, everyone makes the same mistake. My father here for example. (slight pause to point) He was always on my case for being a slacker, totally unaware that I actually make more money than him, oblivious to the fact that I actually bought his company out years ago.... He's dead now. (snarky) Not because I hate him, I just got tired of signing his paycheck every week. All those zeroes get really redundant you know.

Major Characters that Do Not Appear This Episode:

Name: Detective Laron
Age: 30-45
Bio: A grizzled veteran and one of the first police officers assigned to the new Superhuman Affairs Department and is the officer in charge of monitoring Templar's activities. He is a good and incorruptible cop with a sharp mind and is a skilled criminal profiler. Though he has no powers, he is definitely better than the average detective, and is both an friend and foil to Templar (though the two don't meet). Laron believes Templar is a necessary evil, but actively seeks to arrest him for his vigilante acts. He is one of the more thematically important characters, being a sort of "heroic figure you want to be" in a world of darker heroes. A comic lover might call him a DC character in a Marvel Universe. He is also the central figure in stories about the police department. Though totally human, his actions and fate have some of the longest lasting effects on the series as a whole.
AUDITIONS CLOSED
Played by: xxxbodycount

Code Name: Scarlet
Real Name: Jessica “Jess” Cooper
Age: mid-twenties
Bio: One of the first superhumans to sign up to work with the Superhuman Affairs Department, Jess started her work at the same time as Detective Laron and the two of them are somewhat close (as far as work-only friendships go). She is described as an example of why Laron does his job: a decent superhuman that is more of a victim than a threat to innocents. Jess had what is referred to as a “Rude Awakening”, as in her powers surfaced under traumatic circumstances. The result of that event is a terrible and disfiguring scar on her left arm that forces her to use a prosthetic frame to move her hand. The scar also serves as the focal point of her powers and she must display it to use them. Despite her past, she is a strong woman and one of the most respected members of the department. Jess understands Templar's situation better than most, as her powers are similar, though much weaker. Though technically an empath, she is limited to sensing impulses and baser emotions and lacks the sharp mind that lets Templar make much better use of the information the power gives. Her power is most often used by the department for checking the inhabitants of a room before entering and tracking down evidence.
Work Involved: Not much at first, she only appears every once in a while, but she is one of the characters that will be in the series the longest (outlasting some main characters) and becomes a main character much later in the series. She will have one or two episodes devoted to her before then though.
Voice type: Medium to medium-low. She's somewhat of a tough chick kind of voice. This role requires a decent emotional range like Templar, as their conditions are somewhat similar.
Audition line 1: (frown) I can't really make that call, Boss. You'd know him better than me... but as a fellow empath... (thinking about something she'd rather not) even as weak as my powers are I could see losing my mind one day and your reports clearly peg your charge at a whole rank higher than me. (back to normal tone) If it isn't the same guy; if he isn't out of his mind by now, then I want to meet him as much as you do. (cracking a joke) I need to find out what meds he's on.
Audition line 2: (crying, and mad) You don't understand! You don't get it! You have no idea what it was like... what it is like. (grows more frantic) This arm... this arm... THIS FREAKING ARM! (cries out in frustration and sadness as she claws at her arm, her burden)
Audition line 3: (ashamed) How can you still look at me the same way after seeing me like that? For God's sake any other member of the department would have put me down... marked me as a lost cause. (pause and reflect, then gain a small amount of resolve) I'm an idiot.... He was right you know. I should 'fix it or get over it'. Time for some fixing I think. (looks to a friend she's decided to pursue a romance with, but acts mostly natural) How about we get some coffee afterward? I know a great place on the pier.

What's the status on this project?

SageHalo

Indeed. How goes this project? And what did you mean in the details about 'occasional “mature” scenes'?
I don't mind violence in the script but I won't be too keen on acting out much else.

Deadlines extended.

By occasional violence I mean many episodes will feature violent crimes, but only every once in a while will they be explicit. Also there well be fight scenes on a somewhat regular basis ever though the emphasis is on the characters in the tales.

Yeah. I don't mind violence at all. As long as that's all there will be in the 'mature' category, I'm in.
Looks like Templar and Exemplar are the only two characters not cast.
I'll send in some auditions in a few minutes.
