I changed the heading a bit, this will be a great place in my opinion to start up how you wanna make a jedi outfit and best resources to do so.

New posts will carry new information and peoples opinions, and even pictures of what they've come up with....even if they wont wear a Jedi outfit, just a general idea of what they would like to wear if they were one.

I think cosplay.com would be better suited for this, but eh. Since it's cosplay related, I've moved it to the dressing room.

Kinda reminds me of a men's kimono (can't remember what its called right now since a head cold is fudging up my brain). But the design is almost identical.

*nod nod* Its been said that Lucas (almost typed Lacus...shows what I'm thinking about) intentionally modeled the Jedi after watching many samurai movies. If you watch their fencing style its very much that of a japanese swords man, not just their style of clothes, but also of honor and pride.
However it really wasn't noticed till the new movies came out I think, atleast I didn't till episodes 1 and 2 came out.

The color choices may change, but I wanted something sorta dark and earth toned maybe? I'm not 100% sure and I still got a long way before showing it off at maybe the Kumori Con or maybe even Sakuracon next year....it'll take alot of time to figure it all out.

You should go to Jeffrey's website. He has a very detailed report on the making og his Jedi costume. Where was that link again...

Ah, yes, here it is: http://www.jinyo.net

Click the "DressUp" link on the bottom, then the ObiWan link at the top. ^^

Interesting that I could use parts of a martial arts uniform as the basis of the Jedi Outfit, should have saw that coming...I knew it looked too firmilar.

Lucky for me ^_^ there's a Martial Arts warehouse just a few blocks from where I work! W00t!

Sure thing, two good looking Jedi's evil or not will be pretty cool. Just trash around, maybe I'll lend you one of the FX sabers or something so you'll look real good :P We'll probably just get flustered and have to stay in posses cause we'll get photographed alot! I don't remember seeing ANY Jedi's at the con...wonder why? But I'd like to see what you'd got for a Jedi outfit. Infact if anyones got any suggestions or something for what I could add or if they'd like to share something they've got on the works for a Jedi outfit, go ahead I could use the inspiration!

This was what I managed to finish up today after I got home...just spending a lil bit of time each day makes a world of difference.

The pants are probably gonna be hella difficult cause they're duel colored using the same shades. The pants main color might change to the light color to give a better feel, but I feel like it'll mix in to much with the sash and vest.

Also there's a peek at the belt. The Jedi seem to use lil capsules on their belts, reminds me of Batmans Utility belt, but I don't recall ever seeing this after the fall of the Jedi...so I got rid of that idea.
The light saber clip I'm thinking might be a recycled cell phone clip, but if not I can use one of those nifty loop clips like you'd see on straps for key chains and what not. There's just a moc build up of my light saber when I come up with the 300 bucks....geh.....*grumble* I want that damn thing too but 300 bucks.......COME ON!

I want to be a Jedi! *drools* I thought about it for maybe Halloween this year but I have two others I was pondering about as well.

I think the color scheme is nice and will fit you really well. I can't wait to see it! A Jedi to pose with at Sakura-con and with an FX lightsaber to boot. That just rocks!

See, girls drool over either wanting to be Jedi or those who are Jedi :P

Now about the equipment for this outfit...bum bum bum!!!!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/echelonbelt.jpg
This is primarly the belt of choice, its leather crafted with sheet metal plating made specifically for a Lightsaber. However for this to work with the lightsaber I want for my own personal use, I'd have to make a few alterations.
Not too mention I got to drop like atleast 5-6 sizes for this to work perfectly...otherwise I'm gonna have to craft up a belt myself and hope for the best. But I'd like something a bit flashy or atleast stylish for a Jedi such as myself.
The belt costs 80 dollars and honestly I like this belt alot, its nifty......do ppl say nifty anymore?

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/9.jpg
Next is my light saber. Code named "Defiance" by the designer, it carries a strong resemblance to that of Episode 2 and 3's Anakin saber.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/8.jpg
The ignition inhibitor is located on the top side of the hilt instead of the lower end where it can be accidently pressed on or off causing injury to one jedi or killing the other :P
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/7.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/5.jpg
You can't really see it thru this picture but there's a small clip on the lowest end of the hilt. That's more than likely where the saber clips to the belt...so I'll have to fiddle around with a clip that'll safely secure the saber in place.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/3.jpg
The ignited form is really a floresent polycarb blade which can be detatched from the hilt so you can put it on your belt strap.
The blade can come in a variety of colors of your choosing, from the traditional Jedi Blue and Green, to Sith Red, purple, yellow etc.
However each Blade is an extra 80 dollars and is not as durable as you would think.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/2.jpg
Because the blade is glass wrapped in a hard plastic, it can withstand some impact. However continious hard battle jedi style of play will destroy the blade and render it useless and expensive to replace.
However unlike Master Replica's, you can replace the blade where MR's, your screwed.

Here's the downfall, unlike the Master Replica's, this saber and its brothers do not power up, down, or make the SFX's like MR's sabers do
The saber takes 8-10 weeks to manufacture and is 300 dollars....so if I ordered it next month, I can maybe have it by the time of Sakuracon, or I can carry around the FX saber all day long with my barehands.

Now if I went with this Defiance saber, the blade would have to be kept in my Jedi Robe, which means I'll have to make adjustments on the robe so I can carry the blade inside without it falling apart. Possibly means having create some sort of secure hold which I wont know how too till I get the Blade, meaning the Jedi robe will probably be the last thing on my list.

For the boots, I'm having trouble thinking of a style or design that's out there....so I'm in no rush to figure that out just yet.

I'm also thinking of getting gloves, but that's not for sure at this time.

I made an alternate version with different colors and some mods...strips of fabric on each side of the hip and maybe one on the back side as well...told the color is pretty good.

*nod nod* it was because of that site I got all the information besides what Katie brought up for my Jedi outfit.
Infact there was another site I found over the week for a friend of mine at work who said if I made a Jedi outfit he'd go as a storm trooper to one convention with me. Course I doubt he'd wanna go to Sakuracon unless it were to stare at half naked or tight clothed or school uniform puffy sock girls.....(remembers a girl at one booth advertising that stuff......made me laugh)

Anyways this morning I was sitting at my computer looking at the different variety of sabers thinking to myself "Now...I don't wanna be carrying around that saber all day long...and it can clip to my belt...so what am I going to do about the blade?"

Well of course I was gonna somehow stow it away in my Jedi Robe...but how? Velcro? But it'd have to be super tight in order for me to roam around the convention center without feeling worried that it'll slide out of place.

So I took a look at the Jedi Robe courtesy of that site above post by Yami.
The Jedi robe goes down just about to the cavs, the only clear spot to put it would be right under the arm pit next to the side of the chest, just slightly angeled to give it enough room. Now if I put the securing pockets in place too high, the blades tip will poke out......put it too low and it might be too visible.

Now I mentioned securing pockets....what I mean to say is a top pocket, and a bottom pocket that'll have the blade's top and bottom ends slide into with a veclro loop to keep it from sliding out of the pockets in 2 locations, just below the top, and just above the bottom pocket.

The idea seems really simple, just get a Robe, dye it black, grey or brown, and use my 3rd grade sueing abilities (or someone better) to stitch up the pockets and velcro which I can gather material on at any Michaels or fabric store....

BRILLIANT!

Now if your like me and you don't have the abilities to make a light saber cause there's alot involved and kind of have to know how to machine parts...I suggest a few ideas.

1) Now if your looking for something like what I got, which is a Master Replica Force FX saber, either Windu's, Anakin's or Vaders, I suggest going here http://www.thesabervault.com/titlepage.html

2) If money is no object and your willing to wait a few months to get one built up for you, than http://www.parksabers.com/ would be a good place.
This style allows you to remove the saber blade and clip the hilt to your belt. Course pending on the saber you want, your looking nearly 300+.

3) Once again if money is no object and you see something you like, http://www.lightechindustries.com/ has a few designs and they're blades are very durable. Infact its the same type of material used with Hasbro's lil light saber toys.
The blade is removable and there are a few sample movies of people playing with them to show how durable they truely are.
Also they've created a crude sound module which will attatch to the bottom of the hilt which plugs into a small device on a glove. This will give you on and off sounds, battle clashes and power idle hums.
But like I said, money's gotta be no object.

Now if your a Vader nut like I know many are, or your a hot lil thing who craves a powerful dictator....Starwars.com has just released a preorder shipment of the ultimate Vader outfit which is basically looking over a thousand dollars.
This is an authentic reproduction of Vader's outfit right down to faux leather and shoulder pads and nifty helmet.
However I didn't read anything that said it had a breathing unit SFX or a voice box.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Hikuro/VaderDeluxSupremethingy.jpg
It comes in two sizes (dimensions unknown) Standard, and X-large.
