This is my first demo reel, so be gentle. I figured that I've been here for several months, so it's about time that I get some sort of demo out. My strength tends to be my range, so hopefully I showed that off to good effect here. Just click the Box.net link below and I hope you enjoy!

01. Camp Counsellor telling horror stories // Grandia III - "Tension IV: Emelious' Theme"
02. Christmas Surprise Kid // Trinity Blood - "Merry Moment"
03. Coy Femme Fatale // Bleach - "La Distancia Para Un Duelo"
04. Sword-Lending Hero // Trinity Blood - "Resolution"
05. Lenneth Valkyrie // Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - "Motion of a Finishing Blow"
06. Heartbroken Girl // Trinity Blood - "Tenderness"
07. Steroid Junkie // Trinity Blood - "Tactics"
08. Ice Cream Shop Girl // Loveless - "Comedies: Yuiko's Theme"
09. Gay Hustler // Touhou - "Bad Apple"
10. Alfina de Pamella // Grandia III - "Requiem for a Birth"
11. The Wonder Twins // ---none---
12. Sorceress Edea Kramer // Final Fantasy VIII - "Sucession of Witches"

All the mixing was done by myself. Sound effects are from my own personal library and various freeplay websites (mostly Freesound.org).

I would appreciate constructive criticism if you have the chance. Thanks for listening!

Your voice wasn't lesbian enough

lol well nice demo Noah everything had good emotion
if you keep practicing on your low voice it may come naturally like your girl voices

since it did kinda sound force

but still awesome demo

What!? Lenneth Valkyrie doesn't have that lesbian flanel sound? :/

Thanks. I should have probably gone with something a bit higher up for the first voice until I can manage something that low more comfortably. It sort of depends on the day with that voice. Thanks for listening :D

~Camp Counsellor telling horror stories -- This one made me laugh, but thats only because horror is appealing to me. Although to me it seemed like it was kind of pushed. I don't know maybe its just me...
~Christmas Surprise Kid -- I don't even know XDD Wow it was really good but man its just...awkward taken out of context.
~Coy Femme Fatale -- I'm pretty sure you already know what I think of this line =P
~Sword-Lending Hero -- This was an amazing line. I don't know what else to say really.
~Lenneth Valkyrie -- Good emotion and since it was a yelling line and it didn't have any pops or over the top pitches it was really nice to listen to.
~Heartbroken Girl -- Jeez you're better at voice acting a heartbroken girl than I am >_> /jealous.
~Steroid Junkie -- At first I couldn't tell it was a steroid junkie and thought it could have been any type of drug junkie (excluding weed because I hang out with them and know how they act sadly.) but the second time through listening I realized that steroids make you stronger, so it turned out to be a good line (:
~Ice Cream Shop Girl -- My exact words were "Aww Its so adorable." Nuff' said
~Gay Hustler -- This line seemed really unemotional. I know Gay guys have a bit of emotion. And I'm guessing a gay hustler would have a little bit more emotion to get a guys attention.
~Alfina de Pamella -- This line had like stunning emotion especially since it was a crying line (:
~The Wonder Twins -- Whenever I heard this line I imagined something like Sailor Moon style, but I know that its completely different series. Overall it was a nice and smooth line.
~Sorceress Edea Kramer -- I don't even know what to say XDD Its a awesome line but I have like so little brain power right now.

Overall Tonberry your demo reel had a nice range especially for you voice and I enjoyed listening to it~ Keep up the good work. (:

Have you ever seen Junjou Romantica? They have no emotions.

So many woman voices. You do them really well. I was a little freaked out there, ahaha!

Hehe, yeah, most people sort of do a double-take whenever I use them. I'm glad they sound fairly believable.

Thanks for the breakdown, CrossFire. It gives me a good idea of what to work on in general. And yes, I know what you mean for the Femme Fatale XD But we can't tell Alvin! Shhh.

Wow...

Honestly, wow!

I'm absolutely and utterly floored by your female range. I think it's still coming along, but man that is so good coming from a guy! XD

I would have to say your lower range could probably be a bit improved mostly regarding enunciation and making sure all your words are coming out clear and easy to understand. I think your voice commitment on most of the male characters was not as strong either - tone and characterization kind of varied throughout, though your "young hero" was the best male voice for me.

Edea and Lenneth were probably my favorites here and you really had great emotion and delivery on those.

Your mic quality is a little hollow though and it really shows. I'm not sure if its the room you're recording in or the mic, but that's something to watch out for.

Regardless, I definitely have you down for future reference. Some really good stuff here - keep it up!

Haha, surprise seems to be the most common reaction. I am definitely planning to put stronger focus on my male voices for my next demo reel, whenever that is (probably winter). I think the main reason that my female voices were the stronger presentation is that a majority of them are taken or similar to roles that I've done or auditioned for while most of my male voices here aren't. But I've got a few good ones in mind for next time that have some distinctive qualities to them that will hopefully rival the females.

As for my mic quality, it's not exactly a bad one XD It's a Samson C03U. It may be the room that I record in, I'll have to do some experimentation in other rooms. All of the voices were unaltered except the intro, which had bass removed to make it more radio-like, and Edea had a minor reverb added because the speech is done through loudspeakers in the game. Of course, those are the bookends of the reel, so that may play into the sound that people remember afterward. I'll have to be careful of that in the future.

Anyway, thanks for listening and the great feedback. :D

Well I can say this is quite a surprising demo reel, your range is definately an awesome asset to have. Also your characterization and energy was supreme on all of your characters.

However for some reason in the end I felt your acting was just not convincing on your characters. They lacked impact and believability so really I would suggest focusing on grasping a deeper understanding of your character and finding a way to get more in character. I guess you could say I feel like your a bit too much into the "pretend" phase but not actually "being the character" phase.

But I digress its still an awesome demo reel and really your only going to get better from here. Keep up the great work!

I would love to give you an in-depth critique on this demo reel. However....

I'm too busy trying to collect my thoughts.

I am 100% SHOCKED AND AMAZED by your female voices. In fact, I would ever go so far as to say you shouldn't even bother putting male voices in your demo reel. o.o

That might be extreme, but honestly, when it came to your male voices, I wasn't really impressed. A lot of them came across as forced and/or unbelievable. That being said, EVERY SINGLE FEMALE VOICE WAS BELIEVABLE TO ME. I'm just... wow.

I hope this doesn't seem rude, because I'm not saying I didn't like your reel. I think it's great to show off your full range. But you also want to make sure you play to your strengths, and judging from this reel, that's in the female voices. Now that you know those are awesome, you'll definitely want to put some more effort in the male ones. :)

*look above, saving space*

Thanks for taking a listen. :D I will definitely be putting more effort and work into my male range for my next reel. I won't take offense, lol. Knowing which voices were the strongest is a great thing because I can focus on strengthening the weaker ones and refining the good ones into even stronger characters.

This.

A million times over. THIS

For serious, you male voices paled in comparison with your female voices and I... have no idea why. I'd guess you weren't characterising the male voices as much as the Female ones... or something... Either way I seriously have never been this gender confused my whole life.

This is... This is not one of the better acted demos I've heard. Not did it show off much range when it comes to going between high and low pitches... but wow. I don't think anyone's gonna forget this demo anytime soon, simply because of your female voices.

So, as a demo, this did what it was supposed to do and more! This was... My mind is just BLOWN! I'm so fucking envious of those female voices, just... I mean it's one thing to pull off a party trick and doing one female voice... but showing off range and emotion and... WOW. Just WOW!

As far as advertising oneself as an actor and being memorable, this might just be the best demo I've heard since joining the VAA. If you just work on the acting (And the male voices XD) you're gonna go far, man!

...Now I'll just listen to this again... and again... and again... I'm seriously still not sure if I should be aroused or freaked the fuck out XD Either way, I fucking loved it SO MUCH! :3

The female voices. How did... you couldn't... It doesn't... Your voice... But you... That's not... Doesn't work... He... Okay, it's official. My mind has been blown. I have no idea how you managed to pull off female voices like that, but well done on doing so. =D

Now, I'm going for a cold shower and will then be discussing incredibly manly things like building biceps and sports for a reason that is completely unrelated to your female voice.

Thanks for listening! I'm definitely going to have to work on the male voices, although I suspect that they'll always take second place simply because my range tends to accomodate more females than males. Hopefully once I get some more experience with some of these voices, the acting will come across stronger too. I'm glad that I managed to make a good impression though! I think you should be a little of each (aroused and freaked out). Otherwise I wasn't doing my job here. LOL ;)

In the words of Keanu... WHOA.

i'm just awestruck. LOL

I loved every area of your performance: vocal range, emotion, it even overshadows your male performances! LOL But i think you needed more Imagination to make the male performances believable, i think that's all there is to it.^^

Otherthan that, that was a heckuva lot of fun to listen to you. LOL

Your Fem. performances give a new meaning to "IT'S A TRAP!"

But all joking aside, i really enjoyed it immensely^^

Yep, I'm a guy XD I just managed to retain the upper register when most guys lose it and also added the male register on top of that. Lucky me I guess, lol. As for Lenneth, I had so much fun doing that line, although I think my neighbors hate me after it. Haha!

Amazing job on female voices. How the heck do you do that?!!? Anyway, I'm amazed. But as said, the male voices really were lacking D:
Maybe when I gather my thoughts i'll write an intellectual critique.

Yep! I sure am. LOL. The female voices all just happen to fall in my range. As you noticed, my male voices generally aren't as strong, though. I'm definitely going to work on them more for next time. Thanks for listening! :D

I JUST WISH EVERYONE HADN'T ALREADY SAID IT!!

I had to double check! You can audition for literally anyone, lucky!

I agree with hyperknees. The acting didn't have much emotional impact, but characterization was great of course, and well, you just blew my mind.

GOD, I feel like such a broken record player, WHY!?!?!?

W-whoa. Um. I wasn't really sure what to think when I saw you auditioning for female roles, but after finally being able to hear them... wow. The only one that sounded fake was the little girl, and even then it just sounded like a girl failing to make her voice quite right. As everyone said, the male voices weren't quite as good, but I have nothing more to really add. This was just really, really cool. I mean, you get people like me who voice boys believably, but a guy doing so well at a woman? First time I've seen it O.o Edea had to be my favourite ^.^

Thanks for taking the time to listen, Kamuro! I've been working on the little girl voice since this was made. Hopefully with enough use, the voice will sound more and more natural. As for Edea, I'm glad you liked her! I actually just landed a role as her (for a second time) because of that clip.

I already heard this demo reel before, but forgot to leave a comment on it. And now I will. xD This is awesome! I think your female voices are more believable than your male voices. Just work on your male voices, and you will have great range in no time. However, I think that you should put in more emotions in your acting in some of your voices (mostly your male voices). Other than that, great job. Keep it up dude! =D

HAH! You're a guy!

X3 Sorry, I thought for...well forever, that you were a girl. So...now that that's been cleared up! I'll try to critique as best I can without sounding redundant ^^;

-Camp Counselor: This was good, but I agree that he needs more emotion. I got the whole "har I'm being silly trying to freak kids out" vibe from it, but you could totally go over the top with this and have a lot of fun like you do with later characters =)
-Christmas Surprise Kid: I love that he sounds like a total dork. I can just imagine him getting a calculator or something, haha. This is another one that I think you could have fun with and be more over the top. (Note: I don't normally tell people to do things over the top, as it makes it feel much less real, but sometimes it's a good thing when involving cartoons and comedy) =) Get excited! You totally wanted that present and you got it!
-Femme Fatale: Wow. This one is fun and the pitch is good for the character. Nice work.
-Sword-Lending Hero: XD I think he sounded hilarious, and I guess that's because I just picture so many characters like this guy in my head. This was my favorite of your guy voices. Nice pitch for character and good emotion.
-Lenneth: Yea she was just awesome. Really nice range for her and emotion was very well done. Watch the volume of your mic or how far you are from it, because I did hear some peaking.
-Heartbroken Girl: Boo for sadness, but yay for portraying it so well! I felt for her. Poor thing. Good emotion and good choice, I assumed her age was around preteen to mid teens.
-Steroid Junkie: Okay, I'm going to be a little harsh, but it's for the greater good! I didn't like this character at all. He felt very fake and (I know you'll laugh at this) a little TOO over the top. ^^; There is a time and place for those moments, but I feel like this wasn't one of them. Be more honest with this character. Step into his shoes for a second. This one needs the most work in my opinion. But you can do it!
-Ice Cream Shop Girl: Oh my God...so...freakin....cute. I like the later half of the line better than the beginning as I feel you got more into character with this girl than you did when the line started. Adorable. Shows off your range and emotion. Good job =)
-Gay Hustler: Okay this is the only way I could think of saying this but, be a little more...sexy I guess? The voice you used is perfect but I feel like he needs a bit more emotion. This is how he makes money, so he's gotta be convincing right? I liked your emotion but add a little more to it I guess?
-Alfina: I really loved this one. I really really loved the emotion you have and the pitch for the character. So yea, I loved this one. The only thing that bugs me about it is "please" because it isn't closed off. Remember to always say the entire word, even if an emotion like crying gets in the way. I know what she's saying because of the context, but right now it sounds like "ple" and as a stage actor that bugs the crap out of me. ^^;; Otherwise, great job.
-Wonder Twins: Loled. XD Awesome.
-Edea: Okay, so you know how much fun you have with Edea? Add that energy to all your other characters =D Awesome. I love your energy with her and how much fun you have. I can tell you really connected with Edea. Keep up that work with your other characters =) Oh and watch the peaks again, it sounds a little rough when you yell and when you laugh. Also, evil laugh for the win.

Okay so sorry this was so long and stuff...>>; Here's the summary:
-Watch your mic peaks
-Connect with your character's emotion
-Awesome freakin range
-Great job!

=) So, this is just a random thing but, as a director myself, I think you'd be good for dramas in particular =) Just a random note. Oh! And I don't know if you've ever seen Revolutionary Girl Utena or not, but you're voice is perfect for Juri. Just one voice actors opinion, but I think you'd have fun with her character too =)

Keep up the awesome work Director ^^ Annnnd I'll get back to recording now, haha.

Majorikku: Thank you so much for the very detailed, thorough critique! It's greatly appreciated, and you let me know exactly what to work on for each voice (and in general) in the future. The good news is that I've recently discovered a neat little setting on my microphone to avoid peaking for louder lines almost completely, so that shouldn't be a problem in the future. I'll have to check out the role you recommended. I'm always trying to find similar voices to my own (since it's sort of unconventional, lol). Thanks again! :D
