The Song list:

1. Towa no Hana (Eternal Flower) - Ai Yori Aoishi OST Sakura

3. Hemisphere - RahXephon OST 1

It is up to the contestant to obtain and practice the songs from the cd. If you can't perform one of the songs listed for the main show then you will be passed over for someone who can.

Oh good, they've finally released the information for this. And I KNEW Crispin Freeman was going to be a part of AX.
Now I just need a killer monologue. Suggestions?

Aaaah! I'm gonna enter even though the odds are against me! The Atlantic Ocean can't stop me now!

I wonder if you can do both sides of the contest...

Last year's winner did an excellent monolgue from Rouruni Kenshin. I remember one of the good male finalists did one from Shakespeare.

Aw, that ought to be fun. Hopefully I'll be able to make it (still unsure whether I can come or not -- money issues), but I have no clue what I would do for mine. *think*

Wait I'm confused. X_X

So if you make it to the SHOW, do they chose the song you sing at random from the list above? Or you chose the song you want to sing from the list above? O_o

Lucien
04-26-2005, 04:09 PM
I would think you'd get to choose; otherwise you'd have to memorize all of those songs o.o. I'm not sure though.

Still picking a monologue. Wish you could write your own.

Sadsiren

Wish you could write your own.

Yeah, they don't like that. There was one girl 2 years ago who wrote her own that was really funny, but they knocked her for it. Want you to be able to deal with something handed to you, I suppose, to show you can work with someone else's script.

Which isn't a problem, it's more finding a good one.

There are literally thousands of truly awful monologues out there.

Yeah, my problem with the majority of the monologues that I've found is that the most I can get out of it is a dramatic reading; in my opinion, too much talking. Which is what I guess a monologue is, but to show any kind of acting ability or range, you want something that you can really ACT as opposed to READ. It's frusterating.

Yami no Kitsune
04-28-2005, 12:41 AM
Yeah... which makes for some tough decisions. My brain hurts... ;_;

No problem Luci. >D

Personally, if I was going to be able to enter, I had this one special thing from Kare Kano I wanted to read, (thanks Serena. >D Still gonna record it) but if I was going to enter, I'd pick a speech from a war movie, where the general is rounding up his troops, laying it out to them how bad it is, goving over whats happened, and then encouraging his soldiers to fight on! For the sake of freedom/glory/victory/whatever.

Motivational Military Speeches = Nice, long, somber but dramatic reading.

Or, if you'd prefer an anime version of the MMS, look at Gundam. XD;

Yami no Kitsune

I was so tempted to do the William Wallace speech from Braveheart! XD

Heheh, when I was listening to Jim Dale reading one of Moody's lessons in Goblet of Fire, I thought that'd make a damn good monologue with some editing. But they didn't want people doing poetry, which I think is why they didn't list books as an option.

So what, we got me, Matt Creua, Jen, and maybe Akerin doing the voice acting Idol, and Serena, WhiteRose, and Masako doing the singing Idol? That's it? LAME!

We should be flooding them with VAA contestants. In fact, no fewer than half the finalists should come from the VAA. I deem it law.

I would enter if I wasn't already a busy little bee that day. Velvy and I are entering the karaoke contest, which, while not at the same time, could still overlap at some point. Which would be bad. *blink* But if they DON'T overlap and I can go to watch, I will totally be there to cheer you guys on. Or maybe I'll just straight up leave before I actually get to see you go on stage. AN ELEPHANT NEVER FORGETS. (...actually, I'm not even really sure who did or didn't see us in the cosplay contest at AWA... XD)

Those who weren't there for the AWA costume contest, or who don't go support us in the masquerade and/or the karaoke contest at AX, we'll get up and leave during their auddie. 8)

So be there, or be a rectangular thing.

For the Singing category's audition? No. I believe it's an option, but it's not required. But if you become a finalist, you have to sing with one of the karaoke tracks from the cd.

I still think I have no chance because I live to far away, and I doubt I'll be able to claim the prize if I do win (because that would mean I'd have to pay another £655 for flights back so I could tour the studio and audition)... But it should be fun anyways. ^^

Joe told me that he'll be posting a list next week. So far he's received about 25 VA entries and 26 singing entries.

Good luck to everyone that enters AX Idol! ^^
i wish i could attend too, but i'm a bit worried about time overlapping with the Karaoke contest, and also i'm helping a friend at a booth, so i don't know if i could leave for so long.

What do you mean by that? o.o They're still accepting sign ups, but if you're a minor, you'll need to have one of your parents with you at check in.

Wanted to let you guys know that I got a confirmation on my singup from Joe Woo, and was wondering if you guys have gotten it to.

Yes I have! Although I think I might be changing my monologue. Are we allowed to do that?

Lucien

I have no idea. I wonder what the significance is of them knowing what monologue you're doing beforehand. Perhaps they don't want the same two people to have the same monologue...? Got me.

I got one too and as far as significance of the monologue I got a neat little message saying I'm part of the minority that's not doing an anime monologue.

No, I think it's more so they can know the potential content of the monologue.

*Squeels very loudly* When does AX Idol take place? I think lists of who's participating in which event are in order (since I don't recognize everyone's real names and want to be able to catch as many VAs as I can).

Lucien

Well, it lists the tryout times as;

Singing tryouts will begin at 12:30PM on Friday, July 1, 2005, in the Live Programming Room 1, Anaheim Convention Center, Room 303.

Voice Acting tryouts will begin at 4PM on Friday, July 1, 2005, in Workshops 1 Room, Anaheim Hilton, California Ballroom B.

I have no idea if those are 'public' auditions though, and not sure when the finals would take place.

Yes they are, anyone can come and watch. Finals are Saturday night.

I'm not gonna be able to watch the VA ones though if they make the Karaoke contest a one night event though. ;-; That's still being decided.

Are we allowed to perform a monologue in Japanese? o_0

What kind of things are people performing...? And is it considered a monologue if another character is in the scene, or what?

Well, no, since it's a competition to become an English voice actor, I'm 99% certain your monologue has to be in English.
And by the deffinition of monologue, it has to be one voice, so you can't do a scene with two characters in it. Though if it's possible to remove the second character, and have only the first character reacting to what they're saying (and it still makes sense), that's alright.
The monologues can come from just about anythng; plays, anime, TV shows, whatever. I think the only thing you can't do is originally written material.

Alrighty, makes sense.

I think it'll be okay if I omit the second character... who never says much anyway. So that's good. Umm - so - if the monologue is *originally* in Japanese, would it then be okay to use an unofficial translated version?

You mean if it hasn't been dubbed yet, and you use the prescribed subtitles? Sure, don't see why not. I'd just make sure that it sounds natural. Nothing worse than trying to act out awkwardly translated sentences.

I was really interested... and would have performed one of the monologues I have had memorized and rehearsed for my theatre acting classes, but tried to look for an anime related one instead. But, family tragedy happened and I didn't even know if I was still going to be able to go to AX. *sigh* It would have been nice to have a try like this. But I'm glad some VAs from here are auditioning =). I wish you luck.

Yea... good luck, everyone! XD Do well or... or... something. I dunno. *shrugs*

96 people total, though. Sounds like some insane competition. XD Go for it, guys~!
