Well... This is it. My VA Demo Reel of 2k10. This is to show my inspiration and skills. All judgments are welcome. Available for a limited time. :)

My first impression was that it's WAY too long. It's close to 6 minutes when a demo is usually around a minute long, maybe 1:30 is pushing it. This could also maybe be avoided if you do shorter scenes, since alot of your scenes are about as long as a normal demo is.

Acting wise you're REALLY good though. The turtles scene in the beginning was perfect and everything else afterwards was also very believable.:)

There's alot of unnecesary talk in the beginning. No one really wants to hear a full speech of "Hi my name is ---- and this is my ----- I hope you'll enjoy", and the long ending of randomness could also be cut out.

Just go for a shorter one next time. ^^

This is my first demo reel ever, so it's a habit of mine if i always say "Please enjoy." I realized it doesn't fit the demo reel but still.

Also, I feel that I needed a proper introduction for my demo so i don't think 12 seconds it long to me... Two each is own, i suppose...

Anyways, I'll take your advice and try a shorter one next time. Glad you liked.

Cool beans performance! Shown a lot of comedy and seriousness and I think I hear some improv in there. So here comes IMO critiques:

*As with voiceactordreamer said, the time is wayyy too long lol. A minute is spot on for the demo. So take your best and skim it down into a nicely fit candy bar wrapper (stupid example I know lol).

* "my name is" beginning I dunno if I don't get it but everyone seems to do this lol. Mine just jumps right into character, that's close to my voice as possible, then jumps into other characters and emotions. I want to blow my audience/scout away at :01 not explain who I am and what demo reel this is. I suppose it's ok for the interwebs to put your name and stuff at the start? :confused:

* 1st voice(s): You are playing both characters? I was a little confused but I do like the music and the emotion in that scene. Heard a little "pooof" in one of the lines. Do you use modulation in your voice? To differentiate the characters?

*2nd voice: Bruce Lee was a tad too loud lol dunno if I should keep that in there, sounded like a mix of SFX and your voice.

*3rd voice: I don't know if this is a character demo reel or a commercial demo reel but if this is a character demo reel, which it sounds like, keep the commercial stuff to a specific commercial demo reel. I like butter.

*4th voice: Woa cussin! I know dumbass is pretty tame in our society but try not to curse in your demo reel it will make you sound unprofessional and stuff. But funny nonetheless.

*5th voice: Nice lol

*6th: not bad seems a little quick.

*7th: I feel like I'm high lol. I try to keep my demo reel to one voice, I don't like having multiple voices.

*8th: nice...nice.....MINISKIRRTTTTTTSSSSSS

*9th: why so serious? maybe a little bit more scared or shocked. I dunno good nonetheless.

*10th: no not the face!

*11th: Yea after the "your name's demo reel" just should stop it there and nuke out the song and porky pig, make em bacon. yum butter and bacon. *heart attack*

Overall, I like it a lot another quick note to the wise is to register to box.net and put it up there for people to listen. Only because I hear stories of youtube killing the sound quality and such. I have mine up on box as well as youtube. I put it up there for people to see that aren't on the VAA. And I hope you don't take these to heart that much these are my suggestions to cut stuff out, make it way shorter, and more professional for others to enjoy.

I don't know if this is your 1st demo reel or whatnot but you did a good job and should be proud of the work you've accomplished. Keep at it and we will all have rabid fangirls glomping us lol.

1: Yes, i play both characters and they're not digitally edited. I did change my voice from one person to another naturally. That was inspired by the 2007 movie TMNT.

2: That was inspired by Fist of the north star. The part where Kenshiro does his signature finisher, "Hundred Crack Fist"

3: This was neither Anime nor Game. But rather an American film called "Kate & Leopold" I play Leopold. If you see the movie, you'll know where I got the refrence.^^

4: Yeah, I had no Idea. I'm sorry. I'm not the type of person that likes to cuss, either, but I can edit this out anyway. This is what happens when you watch "That 70's Show." I hate F-bombs.

9: I did try to capture the fear in that situation, but at the same time, to not completely FREAK out whenever i'm told to inform the public. Besides, I was out of breath when I did that. LOL

11: Yeah, i can eliminate those, as well.

Twelve seconds may not sound like alot, but in normal demo reel standards that's 1/6 of the whole demo. Use all your seconds to get in as much of your best material possible.:)


Also, I'm not sure but if I gave you the impression that I was hostile or something I just want to assure you I wasn't at all. Just giving advice. ^^

I know, and I'm sorry. I've had a loooooooot of crud that's happened to me recently, I tend to be aggravated/depressed a little... I know it's irrelevant on this thread but, y'know...

As long as I show my quality of my acting abilities and as long as people believe they're there.... Then... I don't know.

It's not a matter of "to each his own" If a Compay sees that it is too long or you dabble too long on something that ISN'T the Demo then they will just turn it off and never hear it again. That is on the off-chance they have free time to take your CD and place it on their computer or wherever to hear it.

The demo on my sig is 2 minutes long so mine also has a chance of not being heard but it's my first one either way.

One good advice I got from an actual voice actor is to have 6 ten second sections so you have a full minute with your six bests voices/ranges.

Also, you're acting is superb. You're very good at it, loved your demo reel, the only thing that needs to be worked on is the length of it. Also, you might want to get a better mic but that's it. You're really good at it and hope to hear more from you =P
