A neat little poem i jotted down after thinking about some of the ancient romans, tragedy, and Blake. i like how it turned out.

My Friend and I

My friend and I, we talked of things,
About the life that bade us sing,
And through it all I pondered so,
The paths which life told us to go.

I told my friend, ‘when I get old,
I’ll travel as far as I am bold.’
And as he looked right back at me,
And told me of feats he do as mightily
As other great men had done before.

And through it all
Among sweet nature’s call,
We knew so well,
That we must fall,
How foolish to remember days of yore!

I saw that gloom o’er his eyes,
That restlessness where all talk dies,
As he looked out into the crowd,
Calling others’ names aloud,
He left me there as many times before.

I sat in my chair, staring at the wall,
Hearing nature’s most precious call,
And as I pondered as before,
I remained in that chair chained to the floor.

I looked at each of the faces who
Among my life and eyes they flew,
And through it all, as I pondered more,
As my eyes sank to the floor,
A fool I was and nothing more.

That was beautiful. I always thought that what makes a poem good is not only the diction but the emotion that seeps between the words and into the reader's mind. This poem has both elements. Its wonderful. Encore!l!!

thanks... i always liked that sad feeling this gave off...

or how it swirled emotion alittle bit... happy, then 180 to sad.

I thought I'd commented on this :S
Anyway it nice and has good rythem. I particularly liked the lines,
"I saw that gloom o’er his eyes,
That restlessness where all talk dies"
I didn't really get what this bit meant "About the life that bade us sing, "
Overall it's very good. I like the rythem and the sort of story to it.

'about the life that bade us sing' is kinda a fancy way of saying what happened to us today, the laughs and the good times, and the bad. sorta like the song of the lowly.

thank you, i appreciate it.
