(Horror, Drama, Psycho-thriller)

Set in modern day Japan. People live their lives striving to become significant, or give meaning to their existence. Wanting to say things like, “I just got that big promotion!” and “I just graduated top of my class!” or even “I served my country, as should you all.” Of course, in this society these are nothing but delusions, silly dreams that act to give us meaning, but not a true purpose in life.

“The Monster” has arrived, a serial mass-murderer who travels the world in search of those he deems worthy of the “True Answer” to that very question. That answer of course being: DEATH. Every human being will eventually die in accordance to nature’s will; it is the one constant that we all can count on. That is the true meaning of life, though when is the mystery.

The killer’s next target: Tokyo, Japan. Detectives Kiyoshi Matsumoto, Jiro Satō, and Miyuki Hayashi are in pursuit of this psychotic executioner. But they themselves are about to become victims in his sick game. No one is safe-all shall perish. This is Plagam extremam infligere.

“With regards, The Monster.”

You're fucked up. Nonetheless, it's the fucked up ones that make the best stories. It was interesting to say the least.

 Holy Cranberries! I just listened to the entire thing! I almost cried! Especially at the last part where "The Monster" killed an entire pre-school! I like that echoing effect that was placed on my epic "Nooo!!" XD. I think everyone did amazing. I don't have the time to critique everyone at this second. I definitely will tomorrow though. But there wasn't a single actor I didn't like. Way to go, Mr. West and TsiXin, way to go!

Haha! I remember that! Dude, the freakiest thing happened to me last night! Well kinda this morning. Well, at 5:30 in the morning my power went out and I kept hearing things, and the word "Plagam" kept repeating in my head. I didn't know the power went out at first I thought someone was IN my house! Shadows were everywhere! Holy hell, it was FREAKY!

The most fucked up radioplay I have ever listened to in my life... and I love every minute of it. XD

Damn, quite a story you've got going here. All the actors did extremely well! And the mixing by TsiXin, GAAAH! I'm lovin' it! I'm really drawn in and can't wait for the next part.

Course, if I have any nightmares, I now know who to blame. ;)

I think I'll be the first to leave a formal critique. :)

Mrwest16 As The Monster- I tend to shy away from critiquing myself, although I will say that I think I even scared myself on occasion every time I heard this guy speak. It came off a lot creepier than I thought it would. So... GO ME! :)

Usako As Akina Kimura- One word: AMAZING! You captured everything that was happening to your character perfectly! Grade A Academy award winning stuff right here. I mean, it's not everyday that you get to act with such insane emotion. And the way you handled the throat slash aspect was brilliant, you made us feel your life slipping away. Absoulty perfect in everyway!

Mina Chan / Mina Maybelle / MDLuffy09 As Tomi Kimura- You were pretty awesome as well, you did a great job becoming a little boy and capturing the stylings of how little children seem to act. Annoying, bratty, and oblvious to the world around him, but in a good way. The way you reacted or lack thereof a reaction during the murder sequence was spot on, you can tell Tomi's disbelief at the events before him without even having to speak and when he does speak you feel your heart drop to the floor with him.

River Kanoff As Haru Kimura - I honestly don't think I could have gotten a better Haru. Your performance nearly, and I say "nearly" regrets me killing him off. He's so cool and just full of life, and you pull it off so nicely, the natural flare, it's almost as if you weren't speaking into a microphone, it was as if you actually there when these gruesome things began to happen. Excellent job.

Snowfender As Ai Kimura and The Officer - Nice for both roles, both parts were reletively small but you had the act of a ditsy older sister down pretty well, and your reaction to what your chracter goes through is perfect. I'm suprsied you didn't back out of the role after what happened to her. You're a real trooper and I'm happy to have you. As for the Officer, we didn't really get to know her much yet, but I promise she's a big significance to this story in the future. (She'll even get a name, believe it or not.)

Ultimate Z Dawn / KoVox As Detective Kiyoshi Matsumoto- I will admit, at first your voice wasn't exactly what I had orginally pictured Kiyoshi having but honestly, who cares? You pulled this role off extreamly well. The amount of range you have in your voice is astounding and your reactions to everything asked to you is spot-on. Great job!

Pgirts As Detective Jiro Sato- I'm really fucking happy I have you in this cast. You aren't in a whole lot of other things that I can think of, at least with other producers, so I consider it an honor to have you be part of this cast. You defintely bring out the beast in Jiro, he was once quoted as a 'bad ass mother fucker' by one of my friends and you pull that off quite nicely. Good job!

TsiXin As Hiro Sasashi (News Reporter)- You sound just like a sterotypical news Anchor, nearly flawless, though sometimes you might not want to emphasis your words all too much. Other then that, another awesome voice in a steller cast.

Frizz As Mitch Johnson- His part is small at the moment but he's gonna be a lot bigger. There's more to Mitch Johnson than meets the eye, so look out for that. As for the performance, not much to say, really good, although if you want to adlib some of your lines make sure that you adlib it well enough to where it makes sense because it seemed like some of your adlibs may have changed certain dialouges too much. But in no way did it effect anything in the long run, it's just some of how lines were spoken didn't seem to work as well as others.

JessicaLaura As Detective Miyuki Hayashi- Again, your part was small right now, but by Part 2, this character faces some really awful challenges. So far, so good though. Next time though I'm gonna need you to pay more attention to the action sequences. And I noticed you slur your speech a tad bit, but that's okay, we all do that.

Daglot Alta / Hiei121 As Hiroki the Forensics dude- Another small part, but you did a good job. Only gripe is that sometimes you slur your speech a little much. If you just work on Emphasizing your words a little bit more than this performance will be flawless. Other than that, your acting ability makes up for it.

Extras:

TsiXin, Majinboo0111, Inukai, and Jackskellinghog- Not much for me to say, you guys did pretty good. As for individual crtisisims, Inukai, I think you could have put forth a little more emotion into your partrolmen role, I feel you held back a tad bit. And jackskellinghog, you played two people in this both murdered in the same scene. That's wicked, the way you died was perfect. You might want to work on your screams a little more next time though. :)

Mixing: Perfect mixing by one of VAA's best, TsXin. I could not have asked for someone better. Unfortunetly, this may be the only time he will be mixing for Plagam as far as I know. But he did great work in this series and I doubt a replacement will be able to replicate what you accomplished.

My one ONLY gripe is to utilize the noise reduction feature a little more instead of hiding background noise with just music.

But that's all.

Whew. I haven't written one of these in a while... :mattcruea

TsiXin

You are most kind, for the mixing props. Thanks. It was fun. Also, I utilized noise reduction in every single line of this audioplay, lol. If you hear anything its the line's quality, not my inability to try to neaten it up. ^^

...First off, the rape scene sent shivers down my spine and made my face grimace for the entire scene.

Secondly, this is great! The story draws you in (via the way that everyone's interested in gory murder XD) and makes you want to know more. I wanna know if this bastard gets caught.....

Acting-wise, great, but could do some work. Nearly everyone had a few problems with slurring their speech, and I felt that a few actors were holding back - namely JessicaLaura (those 'fuck yous! needed a bit more energy) and some of the extras. Super props to MrWest for his portrayal of the Monster (unexpected voice there), McDuffy (or however you go) for just about everything, Usako for that amazing death scene, and snowfender for getting through that rape scene.

Mixing-wise, was overall great, too. Background noise and some low-quality SFX are my main nitpicks. Other than that, all the volume was nicely levelled and most SFX well chosen.

Awesome job, everyone! Can't wait for part 2!

Thank you very much, Sera. :) Your feedback is much appreciated. If you grimaced that means I did what I set out to do. XD.

Did you not picture The Monster to sound soft-spoken? XD He can use that nice aspect of his voice to his advantage, if he chose to that is.

You definitely wouldn't expect crazy violence from a guy like that. Parts 2-5 you definitely get to know how much of an asshole he really is. I'm sure you already know that based on the Part 2 script as well, Sera. :)

~Oh WOW! This was great! It's nice to see(or hear) a creepy play every once in a while. Considering this is a radioplay and not an actual movie, my first thought before I heard it was "How in the world are they going to pull this off?!" Cuz usually, for me, I have to see the blood, gore, and guts and get on the full on visual effect before I get freaked out. But you definitely pulled it off! This is great! Vocals were definitely incredible and made the play very creepy! Keep up the awesome work! I look forward to hearing more of this!~ :)

Wow.....

.... just wow. Well, I think the title is very appropriate =D

Okay, review time :

Mrwest16 As The Monster: At first I was caught off guard by how young you played this character, but honestly the rest of the way through you were very convincing and gave a great performance here - probably the best I've heard from you. You had a good sound to him and captured a very slimey, but nonchalant air. Just a solid performance overall - I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Usako As Akina Kimura - I know you get type cast a lot, but you play such a great mom. I liked your performance a lot here and you felt natural in this role. My only note for you was that some of your choking noises seemed a bit odd to me - I don't know quite what it was, maybe they were almost a little too over the top. That aside, good job.

Mina Chan / Mina Maybelle / MDLuffy09 As Tomi Kimura - As an offhanded comment, I had no idea you had changed your account name so I saw this and was like "I remember Mina Maybelle - that's where she went!" ;D. Anyway, emotionally I think you really nailed the character and gave a very strong performance (probably one of the better members of this cast). I think your boy voice was a bit on the effeminate side though, and I could still tell you were a girl. Otherwise, awesome =D

River Kanoff As Haru Kimura - I liked the voice and I think overall you sounded mature and fatherly. At first you came across as rather stiff to me though, but by the time you were answering the door for to the Monster, I think you became more natural sounding.

Snowfender As Ai Kimura and The Officer - I think you were probably one of my favorites in this. You're voices were different enough to be distinct and you really had great characterization on both Ai and the Officer. You're screams and death noises in particularly were really convincing and I felt so bad for your character - I didn't want her to die D: Really awesome job here though, seriously.

Ultimate Z Dawn / KoVox As Detective Kiyoshi Matsumoto and Pgirts As Detective Jiro Satō - I feel bad for grouping you two together, but I don't know your voices quite well enough to really have any separate critique, other than just a few comments as a whole. I think you both gave good solid performances here, but nothing that was really stunning or really stuck out as fantastic (or bad, if you want to take it from that end). I think occasionally there were a few stiff deliveries from both of you, but again nothing that really stuck out as really bad or especially note worthy. I think this is just by nature of your characters, but you were both good and I sense you're going to be a key glue that helps keep this story going and I think you definitely carried that through - good work.

TsiXin As Hiro Sasashi (News Reporter) - Nice voice, but I think there was a bit of enunciation that could be cleared up on some words and phrases. Otherwise, good performance here.

Frizz As Mitch Johnson - I really liked your performance as this character. You were clear and very interesting to listen to and added another great dimension to the story - excellent job, I have no complaints here =D

JessicaLaura As Detective Miyuki Hayashi - I really liked the mature and confident voice and character you gave Miyuki, but I think on your more over the top moments you could have pushed the reactions and emotional response even further, especially at the very end. Also, when she is first beginning to realize the scope of who the monster is, she didn't sound as floored and devestated as I was hoping to hear. I would really work on pushing her reactions and emotions further in future, but otherwise you have a lovely start for this character going.

Daglot Alta / Hiei121 As Hiroki the Forensics dude - You sounded appropriately a bit nerdy and were nice to listen to. I didn't get to hear that much right away so I'll look forward to more in the future.

Mixing - I think there were a few times, mostly towards the beginning, where the scenes felt a bit empty and could have used a bit more in terms of footsteps and ambiance to really fill in the scenes and what was going on, but I don't think it was quite as noticeable the more I listened.
- Also, a few of the effects sounded distinctly like effects (if that makes sense) rather than natural sounds that were supplimenting the production, so I would keep an eye out for that as well.
- I was listening with headphones and occasionally it seemed like a few characters were only coming from one side or the other and since I wasn't sure if they were in the room or not, I found that somewhat distracting.
- Otherwise music choices were very appropriate (opening ran a little long for me though) and I was very pleased to not have any problems with voice levels at all. =D

Writing - I think the beginning scene with the family may have dragged on a bit long. It's good to be able to attach yourself with the characters for what will come later, but I think it could have been cleaned up around the edges a bit more and tightened.
- Even though the story was set in Japan, I didn't really get much of a feel like it being more than a normal American family. To be fair, I'm not entirely sure how I would do things differently, but that might be something to consider
- Once The Monster showed up at the family's house, the story really picked up and I think pacing was much better.
- Dialogue followed a similar pattern - there were a few things here and there that were a bit iffy to me at first, and then once you hit that point everything seemed to effectively more or less fall in place.

Besides those nitpicks, I think this is a good solid production and there is some really good voice and writing work here. Still things that need some work, but you definitely have me interested to come back for the next part ~

And now I think I need to go.... cleanse myself with rainbows and sugar and cute fluffy things XD

And now I think I need to go.... cleanse myself with rainbows and sugar and cute fluffy things XD

Thank you for your feedback! I honestly didn't think you were going to say anything for some reason. lol.

Thank you for the compliments on my performance. At first I wasn't sure if it was how I wanted it to be but if people like it than, kudos to everyone. XD

As for some of your thoughts regarding the family part in the beginning. Not only did I want you to get a liking for those characters but I wanted people to think they WERE the MAIN CHARACTERS of the play. Ever heard of a Purported Main character? Well, the Kimura family was just that. I want you to grow attached to these people so when I yank them away from you you'll feel lost and confused. If you want to put it like that. :)

In Usako's "choking" part, I'd say she wasn't just choking, she was trying to breathe but failing and choking on her own blood. (Getting your throat slit is not a pretty thing I'd presume.)

The sound of people speaking from the left and the right was done purposely by TsiXin to kind of describe where someone was in the room. You can totally visualize everything when it's played off like that. They definitely were not in different rooms but you got a sense of where they were in one big room and who the main focus of the conversation was in comparison to others. You don't want everyone being in the exact same vicinity the whole time, it just feels more realistic this way.

As for the rest of the mixing inquiries I'll let TsiXin explain everything himself. :)

Thank you for listening!

this was VERY entertaining, VERY well put together, and VERY high-quality! I have to tell you that I couldn't stop myself from constantly picturing it as an anime. especially at the part with the bus! overall awesomeness!

thanks to everyone for their critiques and comments for me! i really appreciate it =D sorry, mine won't be as in-depth but i really, truly mean it when i said HOLY CRAP. THAT WAS GOOD.

this was really well done. certainly... messed up. though i already knew this going in haha. everyone seriously did an awesome job (: the torture and the messed up-ness of this really shone through in everyone's acting. the writing itself was so screwed up, but the acting really clinched it. nice job all! and nice job with the mixing and scripting. they really were something.

Okay so overall...that was the most disturbing thing I've probably listened to....And it was BLOODY BRILLIANT. This isn't usually my kinda thing, but the acting was amazing and the mixing was top notch!

The music choices were great. From the moment I pressed PLAY, I felt the mood and that was great. The whole creepiness just caught me....*just got shivers down my back*
The timing was perfect and the sound effects were awesome....The scared breathing got me so badly I felt my heart rate increase....ask my friend lol.

The story was well written-disturbing as hell And the last part made me feel really sick O_o.-but well written and very well put together. 5 stars! Thank you for the awesome production!!

I'd like to really thank those who have recently commented! It's you guys that makes producers very happy! At first this was seen as a kind of "test" to see how the VAA could handle something of this magnitude and I now know you guys DO have the guts to take it. I really hope to hear more from all of you when this story continues. And I can't wait to make you feel disturbed all over again.

But thanks, guys! You're great! 64 downloads so far? Awesome!

There is blood. There is guts. And I get the feeling that my own dark project has been reduced to child's play in comparison to the epic violence and swearing and absolute horror that your radioplay has managed to squeeze into forty well-mixed minutes.

I'm really going to have to step up my mixing game to not get lost in the shuffle.

Anyway, the casting was quite good. I told you this on skype, mrwest16, but your take on the Monster is eerily similar to Keith Silverstein's take on Johan Liebert (another titular "monster"), which made your take even more creepy in some aspects as you've said you've never seen Monster. Usako, River, and snowfender were all great as the family members who all wound up dying (unfortunately), and I really couldn't hear any real casting flaws other than snowfender's two parts sounded a little too similar.

The writing could be a little more refined, I found the expository sequences more effective than the "action" parts where the Monster kills everybody, but that might be because I don't have the same tolerance for blood'n'guts that other people seem to have. XD I also found the overuse of "fuck" distracting at times as well, but otherwise writing flaws aren't significant.

This is an interesting start and I can only wonder what else your mind has come up with for this production. That being said TsiXin's mixing skills were amazing, as was the music choices. Very well-done.

I wouldn't' really consider "fuck" a flaw in the writing. That's just how people talk in the real-world. (If you've ever seen Reservoir Dogs you'd know exactly what I mean.)

Thanks for the feedback though. :)

Blood and guts is what this play is all about, it's not gonna get any less brutal, I guarantee that.

As for what my mind has made up in the future stories of this series, you'll never know until it's too late. LOL. Something even bigger happens in part 2 that most people either will see coming or won't. It's gonna be great! I hope...

Thank you guys so much for your praise/critiques! I agree, I felt my performance was stiff to start, and loosened up near the end. Overall, however, I'm just glad to have been a part in yet another top-notch WestSociety Production. Everyone KICKED ASS, acting, mixing, what have you. My favorite scene would have to be the news interview.

Keep it up!

Unfortunately, by the time Part 2 comes out there will be two cast changes. One, not such a HUGE change, the other, a SIGNIFICANT change. I only hope you guys will be able to adjust to these new voices when they come into play. Based on what I've heard, they sound awesome and I believe they will fit well into Plagam. Do not let these changes discourage you. Thanks. :)

Thanks for bumping this up guys, really appreciate it. ^^

Plagam part 2, as far as I know, will potentially come out toward the end of June early July, so we can FINALLY hear what happens next.

But there are still no guarantees. Keeping on a mixer has been tough, I may start mixing it myself soon.

Mrwest16
06-28-2010, 06:08 AM
IT IS DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plagam Part 2 is finished!!! After monthes and months of waiting, it is finally here!

It took me a minute to realize I should be mixing my own productions. This is my mixing premiere of Plagam. But this, by no means, says I'm against the idea of another mixer for Plagam. Someone else was supposed to mix this part but they've been having personal problems lately so I figured I'd spare them the responsibility considering some of it's difficulty.

There are two recasts with this part, the part of Kiyoshi Matsumoto is now being played by Rahne and the part of Miyuki Hayashi is now being played by Kissy-Sensei. Kiyoshi was the significant recast, Miyuki was the smaller recast.

Without futher ado... ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.

I'll add the music names later.

Holy crap, Part 2 was much better than I imagined. :3 That was great! And brilliant mixing, too!

I can't critique everyone, but I will say a few things. First of all, I'm very honoured to be a part of this project now. I have to say, though, this was actually the turning point in my voice acting, to where I became a better voice actor after learning some new things. It shows in about half of my performance. I had recorded around half of my lines before learning some new stuff, and I think it shows. Even so, all of these lines were recorded months ago, so it's a bit strange to hear these old lines. I'm glad, though! Obviously are a lot of things I could have done better. I think I gave an overall strong performance, though.

Everyone did a splendid job here, overall. More than anything, I was paying attention to Pgirts as Jiro more than anything. Dude. You were awesome. I was also happy to hear Kissy Sensi Miyuki and Sera Phia as Shii. You two were also fantastic. :3

Again, this was fantastic!

glad to see this is out! even if you are a sick, disgusting fuck (:

acting overall was pretty decent, but i must say, kissy-sensei really stood out in performance in this one. she did an awesome job! there were a lot read-y lines (myself included) throughout, but still all right performance.

i think some of the mixing sound effects seemed a little out of place, mostly the footsteps (damn footsteps) and the action sound effects (like punches, knife slashes) were overexaggerated, like part of a fighting game rather than real life. maybe that was the affect you were trying to get? it just kind of makes the scene not as realistic, however.

music was really well-placed for setting the mood. awesome choices.

still fucked up. but i think that's the point (: nice job to everyone!

The re-cast for Rahne's character was a brilliant decision. Rahne did a wonderful job as him! And Sera did wonderful as Shii! I enjoyed both of their renditions on the character. I'm so glad you were able to mix this yourself, Ryan! WHOOT! Can't wait for Part 3 to come out. If you need me again, let me know! I'll gladly voice another character. <3

Just in time for Halloween Fever! LOL

Here it be! After another lengthy wait time Plagam Extremam Infligere Part 3 has arrived!!!!

I would like to thank all who partook in supplying their voice to this Part because there were A LOT of characters to fill. :)

Be warned same warning as any other Plagam Part, it's still NOT for the faint of heart. That much will NEVER change.

One more thing, it's the lengthiest of all the chapters so be prepared to make some time, get a snack, a drink, do whatever and sit back, relax and enjoy. :)

ONWARD TO PART 3!!!!!!!

YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! IT HAS ARRIVED! Ladies and Gentlemen, I FINALLY give to you Plagam Extremam Infligere. Part 4! It's been a long time coming, as well as some cast shifts but IT IS DONE! You might be asking yourself: "Can we expect Part 5 any sooner?" Probably not. But maybe. You never know. lol. But until the finale behold Part 4 in it's glory! Enjoy!

This part has, so far, one of the most fucked up scenes in the entire play, so be ready to experience a sound you didn't quite expect. BUT then again, this IS Plagam Extremam Infligere after all. It's to be expected. Right? :)

MAKE HASTE!

I got a chance to listen to this earlier and I have to say that this was by far the best mixed of all the episodes, and I have to agree with your previous statement that this installment has one of the most f-ed up scenes so far.

The atmosphere was really chilling, the acting was fantastic, the music and sfx blended wonderfully to make the scenes believable and helped them flow very naturally. I had a lot of fun recording for this, and I can't wait to start recording for the next episode. I definitely hope more people come in to listen to this play and get to experience the sheer 'psychotic fuck-up' that this series is.
