Oh, goodness, this cast~. <333 If I wasn't excited to start this before, I most definitely am now-- everyone fits their roles really well, and all seemed so in-tune with their characters and what they stand for. Had I realized that others were doing more in-depth analyses of their roles, I might have gone a little bit deeper than "lol Viviz so kyoot." XDDD

Everyone sounds amazing-- can't wait to hear more from all of you! =D

I love this cast! Everyone understands their characters quite well, and the voices match very well too. I REALLY want to start this dub! I'm so excited!

Ze voice acting

Sabien has the right personality and the right voice to execute Zidane very well indeed, and was really enjoyable to listen to! I’m really looking forward to hearing him in future chapters. OmegaOptimusSupreme had a decent voice for Baku, but it somewhat lacked the deepness and boisterousness that I’d expect from that character. With some improvement, this could become a good voice for the character. AxerJ’s Cinna was absolutely freakin’ fantastic and really stole the show! I love how he has a Harvey Fierstein type raspy New York voice, and his energy was appropriate for every line. Great job, Axer! Art_of_Camelot has a lovely deep, smooth voice that works well for Marcus. It’s not the voice that I’d always heard in my head for Marcus, but it works appropriately for the character. Hyperknees similarly fits Blank very well, delivering a more medium tone as compared to his usual low voice. It’s just the right voice for that character. Simbaga’s Vivi is adorable and I love it! Can’t wait to hear her deliver some lines of dialogue!

Ze mixing

The mixing needs improvement. Sound effects are missing, from footsteps to background sounds (like the ship creaking). I would think a good mixing policy is that there should never be extended periods of utter silence unless it’s for dramatic effect, and a complete lack of footstep sounds while Zidane walks across a room surely isn’t for dramatic effect. Constantly noticing that sounds were missing made it really hard to become fully immersed in this production. Some lines had noticeable amounts of noise that could have easily been reduced. Sometimes the volume isn’t appropriate, as well. In the beginning cutscene, when the boat is far away, we can hear the gasps of dismay clearly and loudly. Perhaps they should have started out faint, and increased in volume as the camera got closer to the boat. Although, I do have to say the roaring ocean sound effects used on the opening cutscene were good and the “Mommy, I’m scared” was a great ad-lib, as was Zidane’s whistling. In fact, there was some great ad-libbing throughout this episode. Although in the battle scene, there were a few points where the ad-libbing overlapped with the battle grunts and damage sound effects, which didn’t quite work. Overall, it’s a good first effort, but I’d really like to see improvement in mixing for future chapters.

God, this is so beast. <3 Great ad-libs tend to be one of the best things about great FF fandubs, and I have a feeling this cast is going to have that covered in spades-- as others have mentioned, Zidane's whistling was awesome, and I giggled much at Baku's "come on, Ma-cus, ya swing that thing like a little goyl!" XDD

Can't wait to see more of this-- great job, everybody! =D

Hey not bad! It's pretty good! Now it's time to review!

Mixing

You would really need to work on mixing. Like others said, it has most of the missing SFX in the video and you would really need to add more SFX. Also, the video is too small to watch the fandub so I recommend making the screen bigger.

Voice Acting

Dream Woman - Nice ad-libs! The ad-libs were a nice touch and spot on!

Princess Garnet - The same as dream woman. Not enough lines for Garnet but I will give full critique when she has enough lines in future episodes.

Zidane Tribal - Man, your acting was definitely really great! You really have a suitable voice and a suitable personality for Zidane. You really brought Zidane's character to life (unlike the official English Dissidia voice) and your voice was full of energy. Great job Sabien!

Blank - Pretty good! Your voice was well-suited for Blank. Nice emotions you have for Blank. Keep up the good work, hyperknees91!

Cinna - Nice deep voice for Cinna. All I have to say is good job and keep up the good work!

Baku - OmegaOptimusSupreme, pretty good as Baku! You did well with your acting but I think Baku's voice should have been deeper. You have the roughness in your voice down but I recommend you to work on making your voice deeper for him. Other than that, good job!

Marcus - Really good! Nice voice for Marcus. All I have to say is keep up the good work!

Vivi Orunitia - Really good. Nice ad-libs! He sounds really adorable! Keep it up!

Overall

A really good fandub! More practice on mixing, then you will have a great fandub in no time!

This is a good improvement over the original. The blank spaces were appropriately filled in with sounds, in particular the ship creaking added the appropriate atmosphere to the scene and allowed me to become more immersed in the production. Also, some of the sound editing is better overall. Great to see that you're improving, One Winged Chaos. I'll be looking forward to chapter 2 next month!

Wow, didn't even see this up! The cast sounds great so far, and mixing is solid! Only thing I could comment on about the mixing is the sound levels weren't quite normalized, but I've never produced so I don't know how much of that is mixing and how much is the VA's mic. And jeez, Sabien really nailed Zidane -- so much energy and charisma! Just how the character should be, very nice man. I honestly thought everyone was strong and believable, seems like you picked a great cast (yet again) OWC!

Bumping for some critiques. (Note: the transitions have already been called to my attention...my bad.)

Oooookay, lots of people to critique here....I'll do my best to give all of you a fair critique. I'll be critiquing as they come, so hopefully I won't miss anyone.

Little Girl - Cute, but could've been more upbeat to give it a care-free little girl tone that I think the character could've had.
Vivi - Love it, Simbaga. LOVE IT. Your Vivi is adorable and I wanna pick him up and hug him and squeeze him and name him George 'cause your voice for him is so cute! My one complaint is that throughout the episode there were a few times where the voice sounded a bit too girlish. If you keep working on disguising the femininity in your voice, you'll find yourself being a truly wonderful Vivi!
Old Woman - Nice old woman voice. I like the slight accent you gave it as well.
Old Man - Nice gruff old man voice. It worked appropriately, so good job.
Puck - Needs more energy. He didn't sound very irate after Vivi bumped into him, which I think he should've. Also, I think a lot of his lines later in the scene were lacking a bit. Puck is a VERY colorful little guy and ought to be played accordingly, and I didn't really feel it in this episode.
Man - The accent on the man was nice, but I didn't feel too much energy from this character. He ought to sound a little more excited, since he's about to be seeing the most popular play in Alexandria.
Child - The kid voice worked and made me chuckle a bit.
Nikolai - Good accent, but I think it could've been a bit more boisterous in terms of the energy.
Noble Lord - Nice job. I envisioned a more snobbish, royal tone for a noble, but the voice you did worked well enough.
Noble Lady - Hmm, I would've imagined a more over the top voice for that character. I mean...look at 'er! So yeah, more energy and a more over the top voiced was needed, methinks.
Alexandrian Solider 1 - A tad more authority for an Alexandrian Soldier would be nice.
Alexandrian Solider 2 - I've said this a lot already, but the voice needs more energy.
Fish Man - Nice job, Camelot! Good cartoony, drawling voice for the Fish Man that really worked for him.
Herald - Hmm, not bad, but again, I think more energy was needed.
Hippaul - Close, but not quite on the energy. Still, the voice worked well enough, although it sounded a tad forced.
Ashley - I like your low tone as usual Hyperknees, but I would've wanted a more cartoonish voice for the character.
Male Red Mage - Good job! The energy of your voice fit the suggested energy of the line, so I have no complaints here.
Maggie - It worked for the character, and the energy was better, so good job on this one.
Mick - Nice job on this character! Appropriate energy and the voice worked well enough.
Ticketmaster - Good job on the Ticketmaster OWC (mind if I call ya that? :P), although I know you're capable of doing more colorful voices and I think this might've been an occasion to use one of them. Still, that's probably me nitpicking, so good work.
Honorable Lady - The energy and delivery wasn't very convincing on this line, sorry to say. The energy just didn't reflect what was suggested by the line.
Honorable Lord - Same thing as above, I just felt that this line was lacking oomph. This is another colorfully dressed character, and the delivery ought to reflect that.
Florist - It worked well enough, but again, I wanted a more upbeat delivery.
Synthesist's Wife - There's one of those colorful voices of yours I was talkin' about, heh. However, I think you focused too much on the voice and not enough on the energy. "I'm so happy..." didn't sound particularly euphoric to me.
Synthesist - This line was better in terms of energy, and the voice worked, so good job on this one.
Ryan - Yes indeed, the delivery on this line was spot on. Nice work on this one, OWC.
Shopkeeper - Pretty flat mic quality here, but the voice worked. It was humorous in a rather deadpan manner, if that was the intention.
Alexandrian Solider 3 - Good, there's the authoritative tone I wanted from a soldier.
Alexandrian Solider 4 - The tone here suggested a kindof "good cop" against the "bad cop" of the other soldier, and I liked it. However, I'm not sure if that was the intention because it wasn't really emphasized. Still, it worked.
Angry Woman - I lol'd. Great job on this one, Simbaga. XD
Innkeeper - Good colorful character voice, Hyperknees. I've never heard anything like that from you, so I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Dante the Signmaker - Definitely sounded a bit forced, but the delivery was good enough.

Mixing - Yeah, the transitions threw me off. But as you said, that's already been pointed out, so...as for the other things...sound gaps are no longer a problem for you, which is good. But I noticed a few...sound glitches, I guess? I noticed a few points where the music got all wonky at a few spots, like after Vivi talks to Ashley, or after Vivi talked to the Synthesist. Still, the mixing was much improved overall in this chapter, so good job.

Overall - I'm sure I sounded like a broken record, but my overall critique with a lot of the extras was energy. Most of the voices fit, but the energy just wasn't quite there on a lot of the characters. I feel that the character's energy, even though they are extras, should be more upbeat to reflect the look and mood of the town at this point in the game. I mean, this is a big event, after all. Everyone should be truly excited by the fact that they're about to see a wonderful play. Even the characters who may not necessarily be there to see the play should reflect the festive atmosphere of the town, unless the line expressly suggests otherwise, like the depressed Male Red Mage. Not to mention, a lot of these characters are a tad cartoony, and with cartoony voices there's always room to be a little over the top. So, hopefully the next time there's a ton of extras in an upbeat town scene, such as Treno and Lindblum, the voices will be a little more colorful and energetic to reflect the mood of that town.

This is really good! It's good to see this episode finally completed. Although I agree with Apatheria about Puck, she needs to put in a lot more energy in her character, but she won't play the character again for future episodes so it really doesn't matter.

To Apatheria:

Man - The accent on the man was nice, but I didn't feel too much energy from this character. He ought to sound a little more excited, since he's about to be seeing the most popular play in Alexandria.

Yeah, you're right. I should have put more energy into the character. I'll keep that in mind. I just didn't know how that line should have been said when I was auditioning for a lot of characters.

Child - The kid voice worked and made me chuckle a bit.

Thanks for that! :D

Hippaul - Close, but not quite on the energy. Still, the voice worked well enough, although it sounded a tad forced.

Thanks for that once again for critiquing. I had a feeling that someone will have a problem with that line. I'll keep that in mind when Hippaul appears again in future episodes.

Dante the Signmaker - Definitely sounded a bit forced, but the delivery was good enough.

Thanks again! I'll try not to make that mistake with my delivery next time for other characters. Thank you for taking your time to give us critiques.

New chapter, new critique from me. I’m sure you all hate me by now. 8D

Puck – Still not feelin’ the necessary energy from Puck. When he’s barking orders at Vivi (don’t fall behind, into the steeple, etc), it doesn’t sound like he’s barking orders…the energy just isn’t there, and that was true for the rest of the chapter. Like I said, Puck is a very colorful little guy. Perhaps one of the most colorful characters in the game, so when I think of Puck, I tend to think, energy energy energy! His lines cannot lack energy at all. Granted, I like the raspyness of the voice itself. The voice fits the character, the acting doesn’t. Puck needs more energy, period.

Boatman – Not bad. It didn’t totally surprise me or bowl me over, but it wasn’t bad. It’s a solid character voice, so good work!

Retired Boatman – This definitely surprised me. I had no idea you could do an old man voice, Hyperknees. It’s not quite there yet, though. I’m sure that if you keep practicing this voice, it’ll turn out great, because it’s definitely headed in the right direction.

Vivi – Once again, the acting and mannerisms are so adorable! You’ve turned Vivi ten times more lovable than he already was! However, some more work could be done on disguising the femininity of the voice so it sounds more like a boy. I know you can sound more like a boy based on your Link voices, but obviously that voice is too aggressive for lil’ ole’ Vivi. But it’s coming along nicely, so great work Simbaga! You’re almost there on this character.

Kupo – Not to critique the performance, but I don’t like the way “kupo” is being pronounced. That could just be me nitpicking, but I’ve always heard it differently in my head (more emphasis on the “o” in “po” so it’s pronounced like “coo-poe”.) But anywho, the actual performance itself is very well done. It’s cute, it had okay energy, and it works for a moogle. If I had one minor thing to critique, it would be that she should sound even more upbeat. She’s a moogle. They lead a very carefree existence (at least, at this point in the game), so they should always sound happy and upbeat.

Stiltzkin – First time I’ve heard this kind of performance from you, Aussieroth. While I definitely think your booming, low, powerful voices are fantastic, your higher ranged character voices could use a little work. It sounds too breathy, almost like a stage whisper (a loud whisper, basically). Still, with some work, I can see this voice working well for the character. By the way, nice ad-lib on Stiltzkin singing as he walked away.

Queen Brahne – Not bad, not bad at all. This voice works for Queen Brahne. I didn’t get to hear too much, but what I heard worked. But Queen Brahne has always struck me as a VERY over-the-top character, so feel free to spice up the energy a tad.

Garnet – Um…yeah, not enough for me to form a solid critique. However, I know Garnet’s going to have plenty of dialogue soon, so I’ll get to you then.

Steiner – Great job here, Aussieroth. Once again your low range works like a charm. Once again though I don’t have a ton of stuff to critique, so I can’t wait to hear more of you! But judging from what I've heard, you'll make a great Steiner.

Mixing – You’ve stepped it up a notch here, OWC. Sound effects are used well. An especially nice touch was the change of footstep sounds as Vivi went from wooden planks back to stone. Still one or two sounds that could be used to fill in the scenery (such as a sound effect when Vivi found the 29 gil on the rooftop), but that's relatively minor. Still, even the most minor details must be thought out and filled in accordingly, in my opinion. Once again though, you're showing a lot of improvement in the mixing department.

Overall – I love the ad-libbing in this project. I believe it was Simbaga (correct me if I’m wrong) who said that a great Final Fantasy project is marked by how good its ad-libbing is, and ad-libbing is definitely one of this project’s strong suits so far. The energy is getting better from everyone involved, the mixing keeps improving, and it's great that this project is improving so much even in the early stages. Can't wait to see more!

Oh wow, part 3 of episode 1 was excellent! Mixing and sound effects have constantly gotten better, and the cast did a great job! There were a couple of parts where the voices could've been brought up a bit; Steiner's inner monologue, and the Queen's monologue when the fireworks were going off. I'm really excited to see more of this.

The cast in this scene:
Kupo and Stiltzkin were great in this scene. It's funny to hear you doing a higher pitched voice Aussieroth! :-P and VanishingxStar suited Kupo perfectly! Puck was getting better, it's a shame LeonaOrochiHeidern won't be returning. Vivi is sounding a bit better too, though I'd personally prefer a slightly lower pitch. Queen Brahne(Midnight_Melody), Princess Garnet(Roxi Taylor), Adelbert Steiner(Aussieroth): You all had pretty short lines here, but each of you sounded very good. I'm looking foward to hearing more of you! OmegaOptimusSupreme and hyperknees as boatman and retired boatman respectively: Sounded good, not much else to say.

Thank you Apatheria, for continuing to give in depth critiques even for most minor roles! As far as the footsteps go, I was watching part 2 while mixing part 3 and I noticed that even as Vivi went inside houses with wooden floors I continued to use the same footsteps. I hadn't realized it before for some reason. So I set out to correct this mistake this time around. I appreciate your advice and I always take it into account when mixing the next part. As with the creeky ship in part 1 or the music looping in part 3. I hope we continue to improve and provide more great great improv. There’s so much talent in this cast that I would be insane to think that we couldn’t become great.

Thanks so much for your critiques, everybody! I can't wait to keep going on this, and I think the advice is really going to help! ^_^

I think yours and Vanity's projects are my favorites to be involved in, mainly because there is just such a huge, wonderful melting pot of energy and personality in both. Once again, this thing proves that it's not about finding a cast based on high-status names and perfect mic quality-- it's about finding a cast that's going to collectively create an experience, and in that respect, I think everyone has more than succeeded here.

A few standouts for me in this one were Aussieroth's Steiner (of COURSE. <333), VanishingxStar's Kupo (gugh, the adorableness of your voice just never disappoints X3), and Midnight_Melody's Queen Brahne (I can't wait to hear you get all crazy, the voice is hilarious!) Love where this thing is going-- can't wait to hear more from everyone!
