Valentines Day

Valentines Day for me
Is just another day
There’s not much you can do
To sweep my heart away

Don't give me Jewelry
Those chunks of metal and glass
Don’t give me candy
The sweetness never lasts

Don't give me gushy poems
I can't read that well
Don’t give me flowers
I can't stand the smell

In the end,
Push all the glitter aside
I'm not the romantic type
I have too much pride

Tell me in a simple action
A kiss upon my hand or my cheek
Stop my mouth with your lips
So that I cannot speak

Love is heart ache
Forgiveness divine
If I learn to forgive
Will you give me time

Time to grow
To Blossom in the spring
To learn that love and loss
Can be two different things.

Valentines Day is here
Let your heart be free
Forgive and let live
and make a new memory

I really like this one though!! Even though I'm probably reading it a month late... :P I love the tone of the poem!

In most of the beginning it seems like the speaker doesn't like Valentine's Day rituals and such, but in the last few lines, starting from "Tell me in a simple action", it makes the person in the poem (you?) seem more of the romantic type. Like you changed your mind or showed a different side of you..

Eh, hard for me to explain. I really liked it though!

wow, it's rare to see a poem about real love and not the styleised version thats shoved down our throats every year. i really liked the down to earth attitude this poem has, cos in the end things are just things and romance can't last. those simple bonds that tie us together (a simple kiss on the cheek) are the true meaning of togetherness. its nice to see.
