Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, 1987. Revolving around a small beauty shop, six bosom buddies gather regularly. There’s Truvy, the owner of the salon and an outspoken, wise-cracker, who dispenses shampoo and free advice. Her eager new assistant, Annelle, who isn’t sure whether or not she’s still married. Ouiser, the town’s rich curmudgeon. Clairee, an eccentric millionaire. M’Lynn, the local social leader and prominent business woman. And her daughter Shelby, who’s about to marry a good ‘ol Southern hunk of a lawyer. But their lives change when Shelby becomes pregnant, despite the fact that her diabetes could make childbirth life-threatening. Terrified and angry at the possibility of losing her only daughter, M’Lynn looks to her four closest friends for strength and laughter as she battles her deepest fears of death in order to join Shelby in celebrating the miracle of new life. Filled with humor and heartbreak, these “Steel Magnolias” tell a story of life, love, loss, and how in even the worst of times, friendship and laughter are the best medicines.

Steel Magnolias was originally produced Off-Broadway, opening at the WPA Theatre on March 28, 1987. It was later adapted into a movie starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts. The play remains popular today with frequent productions throughout the United States, in regional theatres and high schools.

I fell in love with this play and making a radioplay rendition of it has been a real treat. I couldn’t have asked for a better cast, I love every single member, and I hope you enjoy what I’ve put together. Constructive criticism is always welcome, I’m always looking to make my productions better. Thank you to all and enjoy Steel Magnolias!

This is a non-profit production, meant entirely for entertainment. All rights to Steel Magnolias go to Robert Harling, the WPA Theatre, Dramatists Play Service, and Columbia Pictures.

I'm listening to the bloopers first just 'cause I know it'd be shorter, hahaha. Mechanical stuff like fridges and fans always turn on at the most inopportune moment XD;

HAHAHAHA. "Grayhunmaghiowohaglhblashggathag!!" "There, she's makin' some sense now." Oh wow. That made me laugh. Haha.

Oh god that juice part. Haha. That was genius.

Hahhaa. Hoo boy that was enjoyable. Now on to listen to the actual thing. Wee!!

Wow, that was so long! You did a great job mixing it, JC! It really does sound like we're all in the same room ^_^ The sound effects and background work really well.

I hate to be so general, but I think everyone came off really well. I just...blah. It's so great! I'm proud to be part of this ^_^

Aww, this was really great! 8D The acting felt really natural all around from everyone, and I can hear the character chemistry just going all around, especially when they're talking about the juice, the pink colors...you know. XD They really make the play come to life~

I think it is nicely mixed and we all did a wonderful job! Loved listening to it -- and the other ladies did fine (please don't call us girls -- speaking for myself, I think we're all old enough to be called ladies, neh?)

What I loved most about listening is that the flow was so smooth between the ladies' lines. I could really feel like I was in that little beauty shop. ;)

thanks for everybody's hard work! It's a pleasure to do this play with y'all.

Wow! I finally got around to listening to this thing, and I must say that I am impressed! Everything felt so seamless. It really did feel like I was listening to a bunch of real ladies talking together in a beauty shop. The voices were all distinct, which is important. And the atmosphere you created with the sound effects was just right. I didn't feel like it was overpowering at all.

I look forward to the future installments. Well done, everyone.

Woo, just in time for Christmas! Rocking Around the Christmas Tree made me laugh when it came up on the radio, haha. That confrontation between Shelby and her ma sounded great XD

Clairee made me laugh with her "my face still looks old."

Awesome job on the editing, JC!

JCTrance19, I've listened to both Act I and II thus far, and have to say that the mixing, cast, music, SFX, etc are excelent thus far! It's very easy to get pulled into this story and want to hear more. Can't wait for act III! Congradulations to the cast! You all sounded so real and believable. The mic qualities were consistent and did not disappoint. The only suggestion I would make is to shorten the introductory song. It's pretty, but people want to begin listening to the actual radio drama sooner. Keep up the great work!

Thank you, LightningBolt. I'm glad you're enjoying it and will stay tun ed for the last two installments. And I can understand what you mean about the opening song being a bit lengthy, but I made that choice based on a survey I took about how people felt about opening songs. An about 70% said they preferred an opening song that didn't exceed 2 minutes, like an overture to a musical in a way. Sure, they're lengthy, but they set the tone for the play. So... yeah, I made that choice based on majority. *shrug* I guess you're part of the 30% that wants to cut to the chase. XD But you can just skip ahead 2 minutes from the start if the opening annoys you too much. XD Thanks again!

Haha, as usual I'm listening to the bloopers before the actual thing. Haha, how long ago did Act 2 come out? 'Cause now I hear Scilla, Relica, and Marin all together... Oh, trolli's laughs, haha.

YOU PUT IN A "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" HAHAHAAAA... ahhh... oh good one. *claps* "Shelby's been going emo. Woo! Yeah!" Aww it's too bad I don't get any bloopers as hilarious as these when I'm recording for Proof.

Okay now onto the actual thing.

I love the music choice in the background. I like how the song says "gigolo" before everyone laughs, haha. I kinda giggled when Ouiser said "I'm having an affair with a ... BENZ..." ho ho ho. Right anyway.

Ahh, the whole thing about Shelby's dialysis is awesome. Fairuza as Clairee sounds great!

Aww, and that ending song is great <3 Can't wait until the last part!!! EE!

I just wanted to drop a quick note and say that this episode was done extremely well. I loved the scene between Shelbey and her mother. That was such an emotional scene and the tention was built up very nicely. Can't wait till the next ep.

I have to say that when I listened to this, I almost cried. It might've been because of the awesome acting that my fellow cast members provided or because I'm just so sad to see this project go but either way, what a stunning end to this lond running project. I'm so proud of everyone and especially you, JC, for putting up with all of us. :) Than k you for sticking with this projec
