And now, at last, the series has finally come to an end. The last episode took quite a while to finish with cast and scheduling issues, but I really think this episode is worlds better than the others as everyone grew into their roles more and I had more of a sense of where each character was going when writing the scripts.

In this episode, the end-of-the-year tournament is approaching, when a mysterious contender from a nearby university challenges Hiroshi to the ultimate duel. Between Junichi's bitterness over being Kazumi's wingman, Aiko's arrogance over being chosen as the promo model for the Competitive Gamers Society, and President Akihiro forcing everyone to go for a round of horrendous karaoke to a popular fighting game song, no one would've imagined what they got themselves into the moment they picked up a controller.

Thank you so much to Sasuya for this art of Kazumi!

Summary

Kazumi Imuro is a smart student and aspiring biologist in her senior year of high school who develops an interest in the reclusive Hiroshi. He's the highest ranked member of the Top Gamers' League---an exclusive team of the best five gamers at Nara High School, chosen to represent their school in districtwide tournaments for the fighting game "Dragon Star". Normally the pro gamers there have no problems getting girls, but Hiroshi just never seems interested in anyone. While Kazumi assists his best friend Junichi with his biology homework, Junichi jokes that a girl would have to be a member of the Top Gamers' League herself to ever catch Hiroshi's attention. So she joins the Competitive Gaming Society at school and trains with her brother at the arcade where they work, but it proves to be harder than she thought, especially with another girl competing who really knows the game.

Cast & Character Descriptions

Kazumi Imuro (voiced by Haushinka)
A high school senior with a love for biology and a determination for everything she does. She's kind and fairly easy to get along with, although her need to get her own way sometimes hinders her. She works part-time at the local arcade, which is where she was first introduced to fighting games.

Hiroshi Tanaka (voiced by Kirbopher)
Hiroshi is the highest ranked player at his school, but is emotionally distant. Despite his vast knowledge of advanced techniques, he prefers to keep to himself, and the only person who seems to know anything about his life is his best friend Junichi.

Junichi (voiced by Sonicmega)
Hiroshi's closest friend. Takes biology class with Kazumi and usually copies her homework. He's a pretty nice and normal guy, although sometimes that leads him to be taken advantage of or blamed when things go wrong.

Akihiro Yoshida (voiced by Sukisho)
President of the Competitive Gamers Society. Kind of a pretty boy, and calls everyone "Mr." or "Miss" before their first names. He likes to make a big dramatic show of every club meeting and event.

Aiko Kaneda (voiced by Aprizzle)
The only female in the Competitive Gamers Society, before Kazumi joins. She's cute and good at games and knows it full well, so she tends to be openly catty and condescending, especially to Kazumi. But as the "alpha female", she knows how to get what she wants, and everyone's pretty much too afraid of her to tell her off.

Masao (voiced by Y. Chang)
Ranked fourth in the Top Gamers' League. Unlike a lot of the other pro players, Masao is a humble and sincere person and wants to see others succeed at Dragon Star.

Daichi (voiced by bninjah)
A cocky newcomer to the Competitive Gamers Society. He's always beaten his friends in Dragon Star, so he knows he must be pretty good... and if he doesn't win, he'll be quick to get mad. He likes to constantly challenge everyone he comes across in hopes that he'll win money or just get an ego boost.

Dokuo (voiced by DarkWolf)
Overweight gaming nerd who lacks proper hygiene and spouts technical information about the game as a substitute for normal socialization with other club members. Has a hopeless crush on Kazumi and as a result will give her any information she needs, even about Hiroshi.

Game Announcer (voiced by D-Mac)
You know those cheesy announcers you hear in every fighting game? It's pretty self-explanatory.

Sato (voiced by BladeBlur)
The second highest rank in the Top Gamers' League, beaten out only by Hiroshi. He plays all sorts of video games besides Dragon Star so he came from a competitive background. Because he was raised by his brothers, he's been playing since he was a child.

Shuji (voiced by AMTRAX91)
The third-ranked member of the Top Gamers League. He has a life outside the Dragon Star community and doesn't get as wrapped up in the technical aspects as much as the other players do, although he's still good. His strategy? "If I can hit you with it, I will."

Ryuichi Hanzou (voiced by Ryuta-kun)
Top player from the rival school, Minami High. Very arrogant, but unlike Daichi, he can back it up somewhat. He's always been popular with the ladies although he can never seem to decide on just one.

Tatsuya Imuro (voiced by Gamr)
Kazumi's older brother. He's a manager at the arcade, which is how Kazumi got a part time job there. He's always been good at games, though he doesn't play much anymore.

Yumiko (voiced by Mippa)
Reporter for Inside Gaming and commentator for the Grand Tournament.

Kazumi's Mom (voiced by Aimi)
Fairly strict, and wants her daughter to succeed in school.

Miya Nagesawa (voiced by Fairuza)
A pro Dragon Star player who absolutely hates being referred to as a "girl gamer" or anything of the sort.

It was probably one of the who-knows-how-many people who were upset about not being cast and sent me nasty PMs after the cast list went up.. oh well.

Wow, this was amazing, just as I expected =) The cast was phenomenal, and mixing was great! I did notice that the music was somewhat overpowering in the beginning. Other than that, it was flawless. It was a great story Haushinka! Loved listening to it ~

Wow, that was incredible!! I loved it!! Sad ending though... :( Poor Kazumi...

Everything was absolutely amazing, from mixing to voice acting. Totally professional, I loved every second of it :)

Lol, and I'm glad I could be a part of it, even if I was just cheering/booing in the background hahaha.

Can't wait for your next project!!

I didn't expect that ending. I know this is kind off bumping it ... but all the voices were spot on and the mixing was fantastic. I want to congratulate you on this amazing product. I wish I came up with the idea and I am sure I will be listening to it again.

I will counter-act the 1 star rating with a 5 star! This production is awesome, all the voice acting was spot-on and the mixing was superb. It sounded like a pro production. And the Dragon Star fights weren't boring at all to listen to, it made me feel like it was a real fighting game!

My one critique is on Mippa's role as Yumiko; I don't think she sounded as interested as she should have been in the announcing, and I just thought more energy should have been added to the role, like the announcer from Pokemon Stadium or something more energetic.

I have to say my favorite voices in this were Sonic Mega, Darkwolf and Haushinka. Of course I have a special place in my heart for Sonic and DW, but DW your geek voice was superb! And Sonic, you play the average anime guy perfectly, great tone and everything! And Kazumi's voice was the perfect anime girl feel too.

What else can I say? All the music choices were great, the story is great, and I hope another audition thread comes up soon so I can audition again for this great project! Can't wait for the next episode!

Sorry I didn't see your review til now Valkyrie! In any case, thanks so much for your feedback =) I do have a lot of experience playing fighting games, so I tried to make the sounds and the tournament atmosphere as authentic as possible.

I'm so happy this episode came out, I love this series. I really have no critique. Everything in this was perfect, from story, to soundtrack to voice actors. Once again awesome job and I can't wait until the next episode.

Oh, and I love the detail you gave to the actual game Dragon Star. It must've taken a lot of time to get all of that down for the game! It makes me wanna play it :)

Thanks! I actually really wish I could make it into a game. I've decided throughout the course of making these productions that the game is somewhat of a cross between Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, and KoF.

Heh, I don't know if I commented on the first episode when I heard it oh so long ago, but I am in awe of this production, the mixing, the storytelling, the characters.... just... wow. I'm not that great at leaving in depth analysis, but I will say that this was a total blast of a production. Keep up the good work!
