I removed the rather extensive tentative list since, obviously, those who were tentative are not coming by now. And 26 AVAers makes the number attending this gathering larger than that of AWA. Now is when we should probably plan a large dinner outing for all of us to get together. Discuss!

A thing I'd like people to start figuring out and planning for as soon as possible is how long you're going to be here in LA/Anaheim. Some are thinking about staying before and/or after the con a few extra days, and I need to consider that for reservation, or perhaps if there's some local places to stay those nights, such as my own. It depends on how many and for how long.

On that note, if any other peeps within the area don't mind having a few guests for some pre/post con stays, let me know if you can assist in some arrangements. This will help allow for some days of non-con together time.

Emphasize that you'll be with friends, especially ones that are harmless. Also emphasize you know them all (hey ,she won't know the difference) from AWA. Parents feel more comfortable letting their kids out with people they know from the past, even if it's indirect knowledge of them.

I have years of experience at this. Also, be a little angel, even if you hate the task, and she'll be more forgiving about it. Good kids, big rewards 8) .

Oh, it has nothing to do with the people. My mom met Velvy and Tamtu and she thought they were adorable. XD It's just the length. I'm going to San Fran for an estimated 2 weeks with Danielle, then another week for AX and the day before and after it, then that would be another 2 weeks for Comicon. 6 weeks total. Not to mention I'm not sure when the Japanese exchange student will be coming to stay at our house for 10 days, and I definitely need to be here for that... plus, I will need cash for the things I'm going to do with her, so money is an issue as well. o_o I'm going to be so financially devastated after this summer.

Problem is, they all have to be mailed in the same package, so one person would have to be trusted with receiving the payments from everyone else, grouping them together, and then mailing them off. OR, one person could send out a $400 check and then receive everyone's payments through paypal. I already registered, so maybe someone who hasn't yet and is responsible could get a group going.

Heheheh, that'd be up to the editors to choose ~.^. But I know that they also do request some info, like if there's discussion of applicable topics like anime and gaming, how many hits the site gets, how frequently the site's updated, etc. I think the VAA Insider might just pass, but it's a close call. Someone would need to email, but I know they don't have 2005 Press info available yet. That's just what I saw for last year's Press page.

With AWA, there were a lot of people throughout the months before the convention who decided that they couldn't come for whatever reason. There were even some people who said they couldn't come the *Day* of the entire event. Personally, I believe that this will happen again and it would be quite difficult or at least a bit annoying to get everything organized and have something like that happen. I'm sure it would irritate the others who helped to organize it by giving their money to the cause, or you if you were to invest your money in something like that. Just my opinion.

Besides, you can also do what other people did and just borrow other people's con passes to get into con-related things. For awhile Akerin was "Nikki Wright," and I think Matt Cruea was "TamTu Bui" >D --- Not purchasing a con pass would save a lot of money. The downside to this is, however, you'd likely have to wait for someone to not be using their pass to borrow it.. and if everyone's using their own, you might have a long wait ahead of you.

Now onto a completely different topic:

I've also been receiving some questions concerning this topic, so I'd like to hear everyone's input on the subject as well.

How long would people like to stay? I know for a lot of us, it's less about the convention and more about meeting your friends so maybe we want to stay a bit longer than just a weekend. Pleease don't be afraid to offer suggestions. It'd help everyone out a lot. ^.^

From what I hear this was a downfall to the first VAA Con-nection (Screw you, that pun was awesome!). So I would be more inclined to by my Con-pass at the door, or only go to the Con for one of the three days. As I am far more interested in meeting people, then waiting in lines..... Though I'm all about the DizzyLand idea so I guess I would to be waiting in lines anyway...

Now seeing as I was not there I can only go on hear say. But if this were the case then I would like to try and avoid that from happening again, as meeting people is of more interest me.

Well, it was my first convention, so needless to say, I spent almost NO time socializing and mostly exploring with Velvy. Of course, the cosplay contest really took up almost all of Saturday, my only full day there, so I couldn't actually do THAT much... Hell, not to mention, there was a bit of animosity towards me from a few unnamed individuals, so of course, I wouldn't be socializing much anyway. I avoided all belligerence by having an AWESOME time at the con. :D But it's really up to you. I'm just saying you shouldn't assume that you can't socialize while conning. ^^ Trust me, it's loads better than sitting around in a stuffy hotel room all day.

Oh yeah, I know that one firsthand. From now on (or rather from then on,) I plan on buying a pass of some sort when attending any group meeting that happens at a convention. Seeing as the convention is a backdrop for the meeting, it's safe to assume that a fair amount of socializing will go on within the confines of the convention, and I really shot myself in the foot at AWA by being unable to afford (read: by not making plans to buy) a con pass.

I don't think it was that way at all. I spent more time socializing than going to the actual con events. Actually, the only con event I went to was the voice acting one, and even then, I was with other people (Tamtu and Nikki). Events at the con serve as good socializing areas, and I remember I spent a lot of time browsing the merchant area with various AVAs (teehee, looking for yaoi with Kitphiroth...good times). But really, there was always someone there for me to talk to and I was barely ever alone.

Hon, if people were more interested in the con than hanging out with people, then that's the individual's choice. That doesn't mean that having the gather at a con made them not want to socialize. I think in spite of having the last gather at AWA, there were many times where people were in others company. But honestly, some aren't so social some of the time, some like to get involved in activities of the con. It offered a balance of things to do, so if a person wasn't very comfortable around the group, the trip still had some things to offer and do.

At AX, I'll be judging for both days of the Karaoke contest, and I'm sure there will be a couple panels I want to go to. I would recommend to everyone to go to the Masquerade as it is one of my favorite cosplay events of the con. They air the AMV contest twice, which worked well, since I was able to see the replay rather than miss it due to Karaoke. But there was a LOT of time I was just hanging out gaming with friends in the hotel, or shopping in the Exhibit Hall, or having meals with people. I'll have a lot more friends around this year than I have any other year, so I don't think socializing for me will be a problem. It's a matter of what you expect from the gather and what you choose to do.

I would love to have a big group Disneyland trip. It should be pre or post con though, if possible.

Okaaay. I know that this is going to sound prudish and I probably don't need to warn anyone of this, but if you're going to drink, that's your choice. Whatever. But if you DO drink, please don't get totally drunk.

I don't know how those of you who do drink get when you're drunk, but I do know that some people have interesting personalities brought out as a result of it. I'm not the only one who is not up for breaking up fights (verbal or physical), cleaning someone, cleaning up after someone, holding their hair while they throw up, staying up with them to make sure they don't do anything stupid/choke on their vomit while sleeping, or playing Psychiatrist to those who might have been hurt after someone said or did something to/against them while the other was drunk. That would definitely ruin the entire atmosphere of the meet-up and, really, I think that's the last thing anyone wants.

I know some of these are extremes, but.. you never know what might happen. And I'm overcautious. And I care about all of you too much. e.e

Speaking on behalf of convention events crossing over the whole meeting-hanging-out phase of these gatherings, that was a slight downside to AWA, well, that Saturday in that I didn't get to speak to as many people as I'd hoped to talk to. In fact, quite a few people I didn't get nearly enough words in to. I hope that's one thing that will be rectified this year. Although at least on two days (karaoke + masquerade), I'll be involved more with the convention. I really enjoy most of AX's events, and I don't plan on missing many. It's a four day convention though, and I'll be there at least five (and if anyone wants to crash or better yet, throw a party, at my house--well, sure!). Is anyone coming a day early or a day late? Can we rename this con Velvy Con? Nikki, you need to watch that f'd up Pinnochio film? <---phrased as a question to keep the flow?

Well, it's not been unusual for me to stay the night before and the night after a con. But since the rooms are being reserved by me, I would likely be there the entire time of the reservation. Depends on whether there's issues with my job and vacation time available for whatever length it turns out to be.

I'm trying to work out this plan to go to L.A. early; on the 26th of June, as that's when my NATF workshop ends. I'm attempting to work something out where I'd stay somewhere in the North Burbank area for around 5 days, and then go down to Anahiem and catch the con. If anyone would like to consider sharing a room for those 5 days in the North Burbank area, please let me know. My enticement would be that A) You get to hang with a cool guy like me for 5 extra days 8) , and B) would very likely be able to meet Corey Burton, which would be the main purpose of my wanting to stay in the North Burbank area until the con. This also saves me a lot of time and money as far as airtravel goes.

Ladies and gentleman, it's official. I have reserved 6 rooms at the Marriott.

I'm going to be needing a solid list of names of those staying in the rooms by June 1st, so I can add some of them to the reservation. Everyone that plans to stay in the rooms will be, but I can only put 4 names to each of the rooms.

Those whose names are put on the reservation will be able to receive an event ticket to watch either the Masquerade, the AMV contest, AX Idol, or possibly one other event, without having to wait in line for tickets (which do run out, fyi). If you're wanting your name on there, you're going to need to meet some criteria. I will be considering the following:

-If you are checking in the first day of the reservation
-How long you are staying in the rooms (the longer, the better)
-Room assignments (who is wanting to be/not be with whom)
-Buddy groups (whom is likely to hang with whom, so they can share a key)

Just something to keep in mind as we near the deadline.

One last thing. I have until June27th to drop any of the reserved rooms. Please make up your minds by this point on whether you are rooming with us or not!

So that's approximately $95-$125 for the whole deal IF the amount of people in the room each night remains constant. :) Of course, these estimates are just estimates- nothing solid. I'm just trying to save Serena some work. ^^

As I said, since I wasn't getting a lot of response, I had to make a safe estimate. So I went with however many rooms could cover everyone who mentioned going, tentative and definite, save those who mentioned getting their own room. That came to about 44 people. 6 rooms would hold 7 to 8 people, and everyone would be paying roughly what Katie estimated, if everyone was going all 5 nights. I didn't want to give an estimate now, because people are still deciding, and I've still got to get a tally of how many nights each person will be staying.
