So I have to admit that I am not a fan of the original Willy Wonka, however I did enjoy the book immensly. Judging by the preview it may hold more true to the book.
Give me your thoughts.

This looks too kiddy.
The original seemed darker.
I'm not impressed.

I've been waiting for this movie for so long... and I have to say it looks like so much fun!

I've been waiting for this movie for a while, just because of Johnny Depp. If he can do as well as any of his other roles in this one, he'll do a brilliant job.
I have to admit, I was looking for the movie poster for it a few days ago, and when I first saw it, I could have sworn that Willy Wonka was a woman. Until I reminded myself that it was Johnny Depp. But I still think he looks strongly like a woman. He seems very pale, too.
Judging by the background music and a little special that they had about the movie on Extra, I think that it will be just as or even more crazy than the first one. I like how some of the characters were a bit "updated", though I think that the characters of Charlie and his Grandfather weren't casted well based on appearance.
Of course, there's always some discrepancies when redo-ing a classic film. Hopefully, this remake won't be regretted.

Something very important has to be stressed here. IIt's not a remake of the film, its how Tim Burton views the book by Roald Dahl. He did see the original, but some of his staff had never seen it (one of the script-writers included). It was never meant to be a remake of "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder, but Tim Burton's vision of the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" hence why the film was given the title of the book.
I think you should evaluate the film on its on merits, instead of basing your opinions on the old film (which I think was great). Personally, I'm a big Burtonite and I think the man is an absolute genius, and special things always happen when he works with Johnny Depp and Danny Elfman (the composer of the score). That's why I'm so excited about this movie. ^^

Burton's hit or miss with me.
Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Planet of the Apes are pretty awful movies.
While Ed Wood, Big Fish, and Batman Returns were pretty good movies.
And I'm not a big enough of a Depp fan to get excited over this film for him alone (He's okay, but his earlier stuff is way better).
The Nightmare Before Christmas is Burton's only true moviemaking triumph.

Well considering he only wrote it and didn't direct The Nightmare Before Christmas kind of can't include that. Plus he never seems to do anything original anymore. That's what made him great at one point. Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands were pretty good in my opinion. Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Planet of the Apes....what the hell. I did like Batman Returns though. Other than that he never really steps on any new territory anymore, and Willy Wonka is no different.

I always forget Beetlejuice for no good reason. That's a classic.
And yeah, he never DOES seem to tread new ground. Bleh.

Willy Wonka looks eerily like the snooty secretary from Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

I forgot this was a Burton film but 1/2 way through it before the "Tim Burton film" title, I thought, "This has to be Burton, it's too wierd looking".
I'm really looking forward to this film
I've enjoyed pretty much all of Tim Burton's movies except for Apes, which I enjoyed and could've enjoyed more perhaps if Marky Mark wasn't the lead.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is a terrible, awful, no good, very bad book.
Peter: What are you talking about!? Mark Wahlberg has blossomed into a really great actor. I'm being totally serious. I mean, Planet of the Apes was just bad all around, but Wahlberg's been in a lot of good films.

Holy Shit! Johnny Depp's get up alone is freaking me out enough! O.o
I am really like, so afraid to see this movie, and something tells me it's gonna suck too after watching that trailer.

Let's all keep in mind that it just started shooting...the song in the background didn't help. I think there was some SFX shots that needed to be added. But what do I know.

Wait, you think Batman was awful and yet Batman Returns was pretty good? The original's the only one of the entire series I'll even watch anymore.

Jack Nicholson was a HORRIBLE choice to play the Joker. He's terrible in the role. My big problem with all of the 80-90's Batman movies is that it's really "Batman's Villain: The Movie," because Batman himself doesn't get center stage and he is an interesting enough character to deserve it, so obviously it's in the scriptwriting. Anyway, Nicholson was a terrible Joker, while Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito were both genius in their two roles. Sure, neither movie was all that great, but judging on the characters, BR wins.
To continue, while both movies had horrible dialogue and good music, there are some other discrepancies between them. Batman Returns is, visually, a much more interesting film. The sets, the costumes, the fights, everything is more appealing to the eyes. It's not my idea of Batman, no, but it does it's job.
And finally... Vicki Vale learned Batman's secret identity. FUCK THAT.

Don't forget the best Bat villain to ever appear in a movie -- The Poodle Lady. God, she was awesome.
God, this topic is getting WAY offtopic.
(Recurves it): From what i can see the casting is pretty good, i think i prefer it to the original film.

This just amuses me, because I was JUST having a conversation with my mom on how good Jack Nicholson was as the Joker just a few days ago. Oh well!

How good Nicholson was in the role seems to be split 50/50 between most people.
I thought he just wasn't the Joker. He was playing a mob boss with a chip on his shoulder and a flair for fuschia fashions.

If Johnny Depp didn't look like Micheal Jackson and Grandpa Joe didn't look like a 90 year old pedophile, I might watch it.

I'm gonna hold of judgement until I find out more. Yes, it looks freaky but I disliked the other movie. If this is closer to the book I'll like it; that book was a childhood favorite of mine and I was never anything but amused at the slightly grim fates of the kiddies, and mind you I was a very sheltered child.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is Burton's only true moviemaking triumph.
That's what I agree with. I don't think that this movie will be the best, but I may be wrong.

I'm gonna watch it for the chocolate. heh heh. That's the only reason I watched Chocolat, too....... ><;; *hopelessly addicted*
Anyway, I adore Gene Wilder, but if someone had to take on a role as quirky as one of his, Depp is a good choice. But, then again..... No one can come close to Wilder's Willy Wonka. I <3 that man. <3 <3 <3 Okay, I'm done.
