Hello lovely people. I've been looking into the release of this crazy new handheld (along with the upcoming PSP), and have been pleasantly surprised by a few things, but uncertain about others.

My true joy came from discovering that not only is it available in the US with some great looking release titles, but that there is no region protection at all across JAP/US/EU consoles and games, meaning even if I were to get one now, I'd still be able to buy games in this country later on =D

Anyhoo, I'm not gonna leap right in (even if it does only set one back around £125 on Play-Asia, plus a game), and so was wondering if anyone was gonna get one; what you guys think of it, the games; and if anyone does happen to get/have one, please report back here with info!

Thanks, and all the best for Christmas =)

I'm putting it on my Christmas wishlist~ My mother will most likely buy one of us (probably my sister) it, and the other (most likely me) will have to go and buy it a few months later.

Does anyone know the "chat" or "drawing" range of it? O_o how far away from the person can you be?

FF3 as in 'FFVI'? If so, that would give me a great deal of incentive to go back and finish that game.
I'm also really up for that Mario 64x4. I mean, it's basically the same classic game as on the N64 but with new characters and a bunch of extras, right?

Something that would be amazing: a complete port of OoT onto the DS... I wonder if it has the capacity for that; nothing new, just a straight conversion so I we can bask in those glory days once again - in portable form!

Chichiri, I doubt it's that impressive. You could probably talk to someone on the same subway carriage as you, but that might be about it =)

Oh, and Mr. Cruea, could you elaborate on your statement, pretty please? :)

I've been playing Super Mario 64 DS. It's really fun. Hard to get used to the D-Pad at first, but you get used to it. The system is really sleek and feels good in your hands. The stylus is fun to use, though it's best to use the shoulder buttons for the camerin in SM64DS. Picto-Chat is weird and hard to use.

FFVI is not coming out for the DS. FFIII is.

30-100 feet, actually, depending on how strong interference is.

Way too short, to say the least.

am I to understand it's backwards compatible with GBA games?

Yes, it is backwards compatible with GBA games, but to the best of my knowledge, that doesn't extend to GB or GBC games.

You can carry a DS AND a GBA game inside your DS at the same time.

I think it's cool, but I'm not all that impressed yet. I'll get one when the price goes down.

This has been confirmed by the Nintendo rep at my job. The technology in the DS is too new, while all the old GB and GBC games are 8-bit. In other words, don't sell your GBA/GBC off just yet....

And I confirm with from my playing with it all day today. :D It'll play GBAs no problem, and you can have a DS and GBA cartridge in at the same time, (has an awesome desktop-like layout when you first turn it on) but it does NOT play GB or GBC games.

The system has blown me awaaaaay. Metroid Prime:Hunters demo did exactly what it was supposed to do, make me want to full version. Not being able to turn around sucks, and severely limits. Haven't got to try out the multiplayer aspects yet, since no one I know IRL has one yet. ><! But I've Pictochatted with myself, and it seems fun, nothing more than what you'd expect. I hope more people at school get it, so I can bring mine in and claim its a palm pilot. >.>;

Mario64DS is amazing, but exactly what it says it is, Super Mario 64. Playing new characters is fun, but ehh, really just a perk, the minigames kept me entertained for about 10 minutes, (but I think you unlock more as the game progresses) The game feels awkward without the joystick, but its not unbareable, I'm already used to using the D pad.

If you loved Mario64, you'll most likely like this, and as of right now in the US, its the only worthwhile DS game releasesed.

Really looking forward to checking out the internet capabilities on this baby too.

The battery can be recharged for a total of 500 times, and you'll get a good 10 hours out of the system on full battery before it must be recharged, after the 500th time, you'll notice battery life go down to about 70%...but you can buy new batteries for it anyways. *getting all that out of the manual*

If you have 150 bucks to spare, and you like Nintendo...go for it.

Have any of you played Feel the Magic XX/XY yet? I hear it's a lot like WarioWare, Inc. (which I love), so I'm thinking of picking it up.

Feel the magic is fun but can drive you nuts!! took me like 45min to beat one part on it (has to do with the stylus and hand that don't shake.) And its kool because its not only interactive by touch, but there's some parts where you have to blow on the ds (weird huh?).

I only have a few probs with the ds atm 1 is the lack of kool games, there are some coming out but some of the release dates are like mid 2005. Mario 64 ds is just like the original Mario 64 but it has tons of mini games (which are fun.). The DS also runs off little chips, which could get lost real easy, other than that its a great machine. Also dunno if any one mentioned but the ds stores memory internally (which is why i think the games can be so small).

I got DS and Mario the day it hit. I really like the system and Mario is great, but it's pretty much the same thing as before (Mario that is). The minigames are enjoyable, but I'm waiting for a game that uses the full DS capabilites. I hear Feel the Magic does that and is great, I think I may wait till Wario Ware DS comes out in Feb. though cause Resident Evil 4 comes out Tuesday . The games I can't wait to play in the future is: Advance Wars (or any RTS, it's perfect for the system), Wario Ware, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Castlevania and Final Fantasy III. Unitl then I guess I have Resident Evil 4 and Zelda: Minish Cap :D. It's a great system though hehe, just needs more games that make use of the stylus/microphone.
