I've just been given £35 from my grandparents, and i'll probably get more money for Christmas too, plus i've just got an £8-per-hour job. I REALLY want to buy equipment and software for VAing and mixing. My USB mic has been really playing up lately, so i should get a new one. But can anyone reccommend anything for me to buy? I don't neserssarily want cheap stuff, because in a couple of days, they'd always turn out to be good for nothing, but i don't want something like a £300 mic either xD. So can anyone reccommend anything? Oh and also i'm going to buy cool edit pro. Should i get version 1 or 2? And is there a big difference between them? I don't want to make the same mistake i did with the Premiere Pro xD
Thanks!

Well, you can always um...crack software if you're not sure which to get. Then you get to try everything for free.
No recommendations on mics though. I have a sweet pair of headphones by sony, but it's just that...headphones.
But just make sure there's noise cancellation and find something that is gonna be comfy on the ears.

Hmm...
Well, different mics (even really good/expensive ones) are better sonically suited for different voices. But you really don't need to spend a ton of money if you try before you buy. I normally prefer large diaphram condenser mics when I'm recording voice actors. Unfortunately, those normally require a pre-amp (or a mixer with one built in) to work, which is gonna bring the price up. For a good, affordable start, try the shure pg-58. You can find those on ebay for next to nothing and I gurauntee you will get better results and longevity from one of those over a pc-mic...Just make sure you get an xlr-1/4" cable and an adapter if you plan on plugging this directly into your soundcard.
As for software, here's a decent audio editor that's free:

Good luck,
