I'd like to attempt my first Radioplay project and I decided on sticking to some fanbased for now, so that I don't have to dive too deeply into my own storylines and such.

But, when writing the script, I'm not exactly sure how to make an estimate on the length of that part. So, say I wanted to make each episode about 20 minutes or so. Would I just have to read through the lines myself and see how long it might be? Or is there another way to do this?

You could estimate at something like 1 minute per 120 words, which I think might get you a result +/- 20% of the actual time.

Reading through is the best way, I'd say. Also remember that sound effects and dramatic pauses and different actors' talking speeds all affect your timing.

Like Russ said, just read through it how you think it should all be read through. And add in the appropriate amount of time for any action, walking, transitions, etc.

A potentially less accurate but also more time-saving way to estimate - if you're doing it in proper format it's about a page a minute.
