hey guys, this is it. The project was absolutely huge and the most difficult thing I've ever mixed. As a result there are some portions of the song that aren't that great, but for the complexity of the project...I'm happy with how things turned out. The ghosts were the last part I mixed and I just sorta was ready to be done, so if you can understand "in our town of Halloween"...umm...sorry?

Very well done! Ensemble songs are terribly difficult to pull off without having the entire cast together in a single room, but you mixed this admirably with the wide range of voices you got. Some of the timing and pitch felt a little off to me, but I guess there's little you can do when everyone's working with their most comfortable voice, which will most likely be a different pitch to someone else.
Anyway, good job everyone. And yeah, I'm also glad my voice disappeared under everyone elses. XD

I would have thought that a karaoke/ripped mp3 would be nicer..
Also, I think it would have been nicer if -everyone- sang in character, because those who did sounded brilliant, while those who didn't just sounded.. Odd. I mean, it sounded like some people could have added a bit of effort and at the beginning there's no character xX Also, a lot of people don't fit their character.
But, that aside.. I thought that the mixing, considering how hard this would be - was absolutely fantastic. It got a little sketchy near-ish to the end, but that's understandable and really I thought that it was a brilliant job well-done.
Ignoring my earlier comments - I enjoyed it.

I always find that listening to other people sing like this a tad embarrassing for some reason ^^;; So I don't normally, but I listened to this and feel compelled to review.
The MIDI wasn't very nice to listen to, but given the circumstances (I can imagine there is NO karaoke for that song EVER ANYWHERE XD) I can understand the choice, but it was a tad offputting.
I also agree with Tima about the whole character deal. Everyone was pretty good singing-wise, but what stood out were the people that were trying to sound evil and Halloweeny, especially Cassie. The others that sort of sang in normal voices weren't as spectacular.
The timing was a little off in places, but on the whole was mixed amazingly well to the MIDI ^.^
A hard piece to do, to be sure, but nonetheless an interesting and alltogether well-pulled off song.

well, we had to use a midi because there just wasn't another option. I tried vocal ripping from any and all mp3's I could find or make, and the vocals just didn't want to remove, and there isn't a karaoke. Serena and I looked long and hard for one but had no success.
As for the character thing, I wasn't too picky about it just because had you not heard the song before no one would know what character exactly was singing, and I also had to do some massive scouting in a very short period of time. The audition process only got me like 4 people to choose from. So I had to quickly fill an enormous number of parts in a very short period of time. Many of whome had never seen the movie, hadn't seen it in a long time, or just were very uncomfortable in their abilities. I am very lucky I have so many wonderful and talented friends here to bail me out. So I didn't decided to let them sing however they felt the most comfortable. I think for the most part it came out pretty good.
I understand the song isn't great, but with somewhere around 20 productions under my belt, this is by far the most complicated thing I've ever done. That's one reason it'll be a while before I work on another ensemble song.

I love the song. ^_^ 'nuff said. But I'll say more anyway.
I do feel that a lot of the voices are more theatrical than monstrous (as I said at FLAVA). It doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. A nice blend of monster voices and actual singing voices made it very enjoyable to listen to. Cassie did do an excellent job in all of her roles, especially the Creature under the Bed. My -favorite- voice was Ben as the Mayor. He didn't sound much like the original mayor, but it was still very nicely done. I also really liked the Corpse Parents. The Witches sounded a lot like the original ones, which was good, because there's not much else you can do with witches anyway. I liked Oogie Boogie's voice, it wasn't so stereotypically black but it had that scary voice to it. The corpse kids were nicely mixed together, and it was a good idea to have two high pitched ones and one not-so-high pitched, because they blend well together. And in the movie, there was the high pitched devil kiddy, and the not-so-high fat zombie kiddy.
The mixing was very nicely done. Some parts were off, but that was moreso on the singers' side, not the mixer's. I enjoyed it muchly and you should do more!

Speaking of karaoke...
you closest you'll get to a karaoke track of Danny Elfman's "This is Halloween" song from "Nightmare Before Christmas" is off the official soundtrack cd. Its a musical-suite as a bonus track, which cuts together most of the songs.
You could try and use that... if you have it... if not... I have it somewhere...

I have it, and it only has a snippit of the song anyway. Cody wanted to do the whole song, not just a 40-second clip of it. n.n
