View Full Version : Just Try And Say It!

Auditions have opened for the sequel of this story, thought I'd repost it here for all to hear ;D
The project was started after Jim Carrey's Liar Liar was on TV here again in Holland last year, and I felt a big buzz of creativity coming up. So I ended up borrowing the concept of Liar Liar and decided to give it a shot at romantic comedy. Script was written by myself, and had been slightly edited during the mixing process.
Just Try And Say It - Mini website! (http://play-bvp.com/jtasi/)
Best friends Taylor Madsen and Greg Wilson had shared their first kiss together in their younger years, and they had a beautiful thing going on. Due to circumstances you may think of on your own, they broke up. But they still remained friends. Greg, having tasted a bit of love, had been falling in love with countless of girls afterwards, and Taylor just sat on the sideline, being there for him when he was dumped once again, letting this get to a very frustrating level. When Taylor has to move to New York for college, she leaves Greg with a rather...interesting goodbye gift.

Since I was rather out of it the first time it came around and didn't end up watching it, I thought I would give it a try this time ^^.
I have to say the script is really well written... this is practically pro material we're talking about here... wow ^^. And certainly mixing and all lives up to your reputation.
No joke, when you said the cast was amazing, 'cause I think you're right. My only problems were that I thought Taylor and Tiffany had too similar voices to both be such prominent characters. Rarely would a director cast two main characters with such similar voices in a production.
Another comment is that although Julia's voice is alltogether really sexy and cool (I just had to say that XD) towards the end of her scene she ended up sounding rather forced and unnatural.
As a last comment... the radio play is in reality incredibly long for it's media... but it was good enough that I didn't mind. And I'm not even a flakey romantic kind of person :P.
11-10-2004, 06:20 AM
Long for it's media? This is audio drama we're talking about. In the 'good ol' days' they used to have audio drama series which were this long every episode.
Now if you were to say long for the current standards of ~Internet~ produced audio drama, I would agree with you. I think there should be more full length pieces like this.
11-10-2004, 02:54 PM
Okay, yes you're right.
But I still think it's long for an online audio drama targetted at a bunch of teens/young adults who probably think they have better things to do than listen to an audio-only story for nearly half an hour XP. See... the "good-ol days" were before people became adicted to TV
However... Blue does offer it in sections for people with dialup (and maybe for people with no patience XD).
Besides, I admire people who can produce radio plays this long online... the only two radio plays I ever produced maxed at 6 min or so and I took way too long to finish them.
Love the bloopers. *sings*"I need acting lessons."*sings*
Very well written and I liked Ricki with her evil side but it was all good.

I will make my comment short and simple.
Oh My God.
lol, this is truely amazing, the script and the VAs are amazing. The only part i would suggest to improve on, is around 10:20 --> 10:30, the Volume of Greg might be a bit too little. But the script, the mixing, and everything is great.
and...I like how you do the "not capable of saying i-lalalala-you part". And i like how ricki did her evil laugh lol
OhhH!! and the bloopers, god! lol, i was laughing my head off, i am so glad you put that in!
Well, I am really looking forward to the JTADI.
and tO those of you that haven't download this, you are missing out, honest.
Good job everyone!! This is amazing.

.....*tearing up here* ;-; You fucking bastard! This made me cry. This was the first time I've ever listened to this thing....and why the hell didn't I earlier? Now I know why everyone else in the world knows about this. Great job every person who was in this. T-T Woooow.
11-12-2004, 03:34 PM
Very awesome job. Everything was done very well. ^_^
11-12-2004, 04:07 PM
I thought about running back to the original post and lifting my original review and pasting it here, but it seems I can't quite go back that far in the archives. In any case, I'll reiterate in ths short form: great mix that accurately captures many a romantic-comedy/chick-flick. Makes me feel less manly. After hearing this, I must watch many an Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Bruckenheimer movie to feel relatively manly again. But apart from that, excellent. :P
11-17-2004, 08:06 AM
Edwyn: For Honor and Glory, eh? ;p
I'm glad people still like it so much. More pressure for me to make the sequel even better ._.;;.....Although I think I have to say that the sequel is more drama than comedy O.o....unless I manage to come up with something brilliant.
11-17-2004, 04:28 PM
hey, you could give Tiffany a love interest, and throw the comedy in there ^_~
11-18-2004, 06:53 PM
Except then he'd most likely have to cast another role. Unless he wanted to use one of the existing ones... which are mostly girls XD;
11-18-2004, 08:20 PM
No. You'll hear. >D
11-18-2004, 10:13 PM
I was going to listen to this when it was first posted (however long ago that was), but I never got around to it.
I just downloaded it now and listened to the whole thing-- Excellent job!
The mixing is very nice, everything is on time and there's no huge pauses in between random lines that shouldn't be there... The only complaint I'd have is that sometimes the volume on certain lines are a bit low, but apart from that little nitpick it's very well done.
But you've probably heard all this before.

Wow this was professional in my ears, the voice acting was awsome and the music was awsome and fit perfectly.. Good job. Ps! the store scene near the beginning was funny as hell... :D

Ahahaha. Go Brandon XD.
Might as well take this oppertunity to tell everyone I'm slowly receiving lines from my cast for the sequel, so hopefully I'll get this done by V-day as planned.

I love this drama. Excellently well done and a sweet story to boot. I highly recommend this and the sequal 'Just Try and Say I Do.'
09-23-2005, 02:39 AM
aww I loved thisss. I have it saved on my puter. ^^
05-30-2006, 11:52 PM
# Because I can. Bump bump bump. #

It's been ages since I last heard this RP and it looks like it still hasn't lost it's touch. It's just beautiful, what else can I say man.

To quote your Producers guide...
"Shut the hell UP, Blue!!!"
It's not many people who can dredge up a classic like this out of the depths of Forum Hell and bring it back for a whole new generation of listeners. I've always loved this. Someday I'm going to audition for one of BVP's productions...apart from the Fantastic Four sketch that I was the cop in (which I considered such a bad performance by me, that I've never actually listened to. ^^;;)
05-31-2006, 02:36 PM
It''s really easy, you know. You just go down to forum hell, find a topic and click on "Post reply" 8D~!
06-01-2006, 06:57 AM
Bah, I meant that could do it and not get posts in the thread the likes of which amount to: "Oh...this....yah, um, this is like 2 years old, why are you replying?"
06-02-2006, 01:29 AM
Wow this was amazing! Everyone was so good and it was the cutest beyond cute! ^-^ Two years old or not this was absolutely adorable! ^-^
06-02-2006, 11:33 AM
There needs to be more awesome stuff like this around.
06-03-2006, 04:00 PM
i really wanted to be able to listen to this all, but i just couldn't...
the delivery between the actors was so ... not loving that it just totally deflated the whole atmosphere for me. i didn't think 'haha, this great big love triangle thing is great'. i just kept thinking 'they're reading lines off a script and trying to sound natural'.
the delivery of the lines in a piece like this needs to be less anime (eg HIIYAAA! i'm drawing out the vooooweeellss!! hehehehe!!!!) and more human being.
i'm sure it gets better.. but i dunno, i just couldn't get past the beginning. it was a bit too much for me to handle.
oh and the background noise removal on ricky/mindy's lines was way too much - she sounded like she was talking in a tin can swirling in a vortex.
oh well, well done anyway.. you've worked hard and everyone likes it.. i'm just picky. ;D
EDIT: just read that this is like 2 years old or something? either way i still stick by the comments. just pretend i posted this two years ago :) i'm sure you'd make a much better version today

There were some points in the post before mine that I myself felt as well, but I did enjoy this none the less.
The mixing on this was fantastic. Movie quality mixing for the most part. Movie quality staging almost that I can envision what's happening in my mind like I was watching a movie.
This was also pretty fast paced, story wise. For something inspired by full length movies, this was really fast paced and just went bang bang bang!
There were some parts of the story that I felt like, "This is just like alot of other romantic comedies out there." I mean, I get into the idea about the struggle of being able to say those simple words, "I love you" and I applaud that a story like that can be made for this medium or anywhere because that's something that is relatable and that people go for. I'm a big fan of romantic comedies that have layers to it and the exchanges from characters feel real and the actions in the story are riviting [ex, Annie Hall, Chasing Amy] and there were great bits of dialogue in this that I really enjoyed, but there was a bit of a feeling that this doesn't have that quality to fully stand out from other romantic comedies. Not that I'm knocking down the story in general, but to me, it just didn't stand out from stuff I've already either seen or heard on radio or film. But keep in mind people, it's hard to be original in this day in age.
Now, in regards to actors and characters, I did feel that at times, actors were just reading their lines than being the character. But hey, it can be pretty hard to pull off performances where people would go, "I see the character more than an actor reading lines" But I do think the cast overall did a terrific job and look forward to hearing them in future productions. The argument about anime like voices in the previous post has some validity to it that some actors made their characters sound younger than they should sound, at least in my mind they did, but I didn't write it and call any shots, so I don't want to play arm-chair casting director
That'll just about do it. Again, great job, Tamtu and gang and I look forward to the next one.

*BUMP* On this day, I can think of no audio drama I'd rather listen to than JTASI. The Full High Quality Version downloads just fine, not sure about the other links. Everyone should listen to this drama, my alltime fav radioplay. ^^
02-16-2007, 04:36 PM
Nothing I'd have rather listened to.
02-18-2007, 06:05 PM
This is absolutely awesome... Ricky reminds me of Rikku off of FFX-2 and a little bit her thinking is like Sakura from Naruto. This is really cute and funny.
02-19-2007, 11:49 PM
wow that was amazing!
