Yeah, so it's not new or anything, but I found out that the lead role was played by Megumi Hayashibara and *GASP!* I decided to try it.
Summary: What do you get when you take Inu-Yasha, Full-Metal Panic, and X/1999 and mix them all in a giant blender? Why, you get Blue Seed of course!
In short, Blue Seed is about this chick, Momiji Fujiyama, who is the ancestor of Princess Kushinada, the wife of Susano-oh (a famous Japanese kami). She has special powers that are released when she dies that kill these evil demon things (powered by these blue seed-like things called mitama, hence the title) which are popping up like daisies all over Japan. Her twin, Kaede, who was in charge of killing these demons (called Aragami) recently kicked the bucket, so now the fate of Japan lies within Momiji. Then she meets TAC, a group of people working for the government who are trying to eradicate the aragami without sacrificing Momiji. She also meets Mamoru Kusanagi, who tries to kill her so that the Aragami will die.[spoiler:0f54966418] As it turns out, Kusanagi was in love with Kaede and falls in love with Momiji as well, but not before Momiji becomes obsessed with him. And of course, to complicate things, Kaede ends up not being dead at all, but rather on the bad guys' side.[/spoiler:0f54966418]
Inu-Yasha Elements: Kusanagi's relationship with Kaede and Momiji is remarkably like that between Inu-Yasha, Kikyou, and Kagome. If you want to find out why, watch the show. In addition, Kusanagi himself is like an odd blend of the perverted Miroku and the brash, hot-headed Inu-Yasha. Also, the whole evil-spirits-being-powered-by-weird-jewel-thingies kinda reminded me of the Shikon no Tama stuff.
FMP Elements: Guns, military junk, fanservice, science-fiction stuff
X/1999 Elements: [spoiler:0f54966418]Momiji wants to protect mankind. Kaede wants to turn all humans into plants and let Japan be reborn. [/spoiler:0f54966418]
The Good: Good main couple. Kome and Sakura amused me. And Kusanagi was cool, although his random disturbing comments disturbed me O.o Also, Izumo is a very important place in this anime, and it is where I spent 4 weeks this summer.
The Bad: Too many plot holes. Also, I was expecting Momiji to be a kick-butt Aragami-killing all-around awesome heroine, but it turns out that she's what would happen if Kagome and Miaka could have a kid. Oh, and the fanservice - WAY too much of that. Who CARES what underwear that Momiji is wearing? Oh, and you thought Miaka said Tomahome a lot? Well, Momiji certainly seems to be obsessed with yelling KUSANAGI-SAN!!! As loud as she possibly can. Oh, and it's kinda violent. But I watched 3x3 EYES before watching this, so it didn't really bug me as much as it should've.
All in all, I thought the series was very watchable. Even at the dull points, I couldn't quit watching because I wanted to know what would happen next. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
So, anybody else seen this series who wants to share?
