I just figured I'd see if anyone can help me out here...

see, for this one particular role, I have to do lots of screaming (at least, in the first part XDD) the only problem is, my mic, which is a perfectly good mic, tends to break up if i scream into it. now, i'm the kind of person that likes to put everything into full voice so it sounds more.. well, authentic, ne? anywho, i have one of those headset mic thingies, and i can move the mic further away from my mouth and up towards my forehead (which i do), but that still represents two other problems:

1) either it still breaks up, and if i speak quieter i can't achieve the same exuberance, or

2) i push it so far away that the voice seems distant, even if i pump up the mic volume.

so yeah.. any suggestions or tactics, anyone? =^^.=;;; anything is much appreciated!

Hrm... I'm not quite sure if it is possible to accomplish what you want to do, with such a microphone... :(

And you're a 'Transformers Theorist'? Wicked!

Try not actually put yelling so much but putting more emphasis on your words.

Try turning the mic volume down (By going to your sound settings thingie, and turning Line In down) It'll also make the volume come out really quiet, but it comes out nice and clean with hardly any background sound. You can amplify it if you want it louder ^0^

I'm taking a guess and saying that it's not speaking more dramatically that she wants, but pure screaming.

Without a professional setup, I'm not sure if it's possible to both be loud without distortion, and also not contain a bunch of the room resonance (which I assume is what you mean when you say it sounds too distant)
The only solution that I can suggest (and actively use) is to split the different; lower your gain meter AND put some distance between your mouth and your mic. I'm assuming you position your mic to the side of your mouth as opposed to screaming straight into it; this can help a lot in reducing distortion as well as avoiding popping.

what i do, is i scream DIRECTLY into the mic, with very low volume, if i turn my head, or scream from arms length, the acoustics of my living room gives off this very scary echo.

I would usually put the mic on the side of my mouth... so the way you are facing should make a 90 degree with the mic, that way, the echo is not too loud but it's still hearable.

If you download the Skies Trailer (http://www.but-yeah.com/doa/prod.html), *shameless plug HHAHAA*, you will hear the most beautiful amazing scream in the world. :O

Claps and snaps to Fernie417 for that one.

After hearing it, I was like OMGAgraAFHklafh; HE'S NOT HUMAN! :O So I asked him for some tips some time later, and he said:

Screaming... that takes a bit of practice to get right
when using a cheap mic. I'm just using a Logitech USB
mic, costed about twenty bucks so I don't think it's
an awesome mic.
First you should lower the microphone volume to about
as low as it can go while still picking up some decent
sound. You would do that by changing the volume
properties, either in the right side of the windows
taskbar or in the control panel. Then while actually
doing the yelling, point the mic in the direction of
your mouth, but don't yell into the mic. Instead yell
facing another direction, like looking up at the
ceiling. If it's still popping, then try backing away
from the mic or something.

As the person who only gets cast as people who must scream their lungs out, I usually cover my mic with something (like a piece of clothing) and then scream facing a different direction. 'Course, I usually still top out a bit, so you're probably best off listening to everyone else.

rip a peice of foam out of your furniture and ruberband it over the mic, thicker foam for screaming! Klaymen1- jerry rigging studios since 2004 :D
