I was thinking this morning about how many people seem to like dubbing Sailor StarS. By far, this is one of the most popular productions to come up. But, as a producer, how do you feel if someone strikes up a production similar, or the same as your own?
Do you feel in competition with them to produce something better than them? Personally, if I was dubbing an anime, and someone else was, I guess I would feel that way, but at the same time, I would be interested in seeing how the other production turns out, so that I can see where I went wrong with a similar scene, or something.
While this doesn't apply as much to original productions rather than ones already based on an existing anime or manga, would you feel annoyed if someone held auditions for something with a similar plot? Or that they were stealing your ideas?
Just some food for thought I guess :) I've heard of some heated arguements between producers over stuff like this, so I guess I wanted your opinions on the matter ^.^

Well, I normally just like to see how the other production turns out ^__^ I wouldn't feel in competition with them at all o________o I'm strange. Though I wouldn't want to do something too many people have done xD Like Sailor Moon xD I would be a lil ticked if someone had an original RP with the same characters or plot as one of my stories xD but I wouldn't be mad. I'd be like "Oooh boy, big coincidence." Like in the production NTES that DataDrain did, one of his characters sounded alot like a character I made when I was eight xD Wierd. Now if someone was really stealing my story... I'd be P/O. But I never tell my stories to anyone ^0^ So yeah.

Other producers can be intimidating. I know when kt rocks said she was going to doing a full series fandub of Fruits Basket, I had serious doubts about putting about auditions for my fruits basket clips but then I thought, I might as well. Besides, ^^ my clip is from episode 18 and by the time she gets to that stage no-one will probably even remember mine.
I think people who are dubbing the same anime or doing radio plays with similar plots might rival each other a little but by the time they put the finished product up those feelings fly out the window because they probably get so interested watching and listening to them that they just forget.

I try not to do it at the same time otherwise you end up with all the same people etc etc and it bgets boring.

I think it's kinda pointless. Unless the first person who does the production died, never did it, or did it realllly bad.
But there have always been "crazes" y'know? Like right now, EVERYONE is all of a sudden doing FMwS, and previously furuba. Also, everyone's always donig something FMA and Yu-Gi-Oh. I don't think that's too bad though, since they do diff clips.
Whenever I decide to make a production, I always use original shows, and a lot of times videogames, since they get little attention.
And if someone beats me to the idea, I'll audition. ^^

It's like this in the cosplay community all the time. I mean, seriously. There are a bajillion people who want to cosplay the same characters. The point is to do your best, and encourage others to do their best too. And we learn from each other as we go along. In the cosplay world, we share hints on creating props or styling wigs. In the AVA world, we share our raws and OSTs.
I do wonder what happened to the Sailor Moon craze, though...Full Moon is starting to die down it seems. And Inuyasha was the thing for awhile. Hmm...I wonder what will be next.
i've always felt competitive as a producer I enjoy seeing projects with similar or different casts goin up around the same time.
I will continue to mix my productions as best as I can. :D

I've voiced Motoki/Andrew in three separate productions of the lost episode (episode 2) in Sailor Moon. I was rather sick of that episode by that time XD.

XD not surprising...
I have this personal thing with doing things that no one ever does, or hardly does-- both in VAing and in cosplay. Though it may not get the most attention, like all the really popular shows, it's different, and special in it's own way. But that's just me. I don't mind at all when other people do the same thing. I like seeing how things compare. (Except when it comes to fangirls and InuYasha. Xx;; )

Well It's nothing bad really if someone else is doing the same seires but it does get a bit annoying/boring after while, to see the same things over and over *cough* the recent appearance of Furuba/Fruits Basket *cough*
Seires that go in this category(so far) have been: Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon(any part of the seires), PGSM, Inu Yasha, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Naruto and Fruits Basket. I think that's about all that have a sever case of repeates. Well less on Full moon but it's getting to that same point. Most of these seires though are quiet popular, so popularity causes other people to want to do something with them.
I for one try not to do series other people are doing but sometimes it just happens. When I first came here I had no idea the amount of sailor moon things that were going on at the time but I still went on with mine and have completed 2 full episodes (*cough* I was the 3rd person to cast lucien as Motoki for ep 2 *cough* and I didn't know that many had already been done). Other things, on the it just happens part are like I had planned a Full Moon wo Sagashite Dub for a long time and when I finally got around to doing it, a bunch of other people started doing it as well but I still did it anyways cause I wanted to. So over all you will never really find a seires that someone else won't be doing and/or isn't areadly going to do.
It's just the way of the world unless you're a company and hold the liscene.

Hmm...I've been casted as Tuxedo Mask/Kamen/Darien in like 7 different SM productions by 7 different people...and I've only seen one actually get completed. ^^;; Let all these people produce SM, or Naruto, or Furuba. I'm impressed when one gets done.
And on getting mad over people doing RPs that you wanted to. I was slightly annoyed when someone else held auddies for Petshop of Horrors, I wanted to do that...buuuuut, it seems like that production, has disappeared. ^.^ Soooo, I'll eventually, sometime, someday, do a Petshop production anyways.

Sincere question, devoid of any backstabbing cynism:
Does anyone really like Sailor Moon? What's so fun about the series? I never saw it, and never auditioned for any of the productions going on at the VAA and elsewhere.
In one sentence, what is good about Sailor Moon, I ask thee?

I think for a lot of people, myself included, Sailor Moon was one of the first anime a they saw. And because it was different, it was popular. I still like Sailor Moon, the manga has beautiful artwork, and the while the storyline is generally stereotypical of magical girl type things, it pretty much was the first of it's kind. There is a lot of thought behind the whole series that a million websites can explain better than me :P
I think I like it because it's 'pretty'.

I dubbed one with myself as Yuna, and my friend (Carl) as Tidus.
I liked your Yuna voice a lot :) I still have that clip :D

Nikkita, Danyata, thanks for your answers!
A series that is 'fun' and 'pretty' sounds good to me!

I think people doing something the same as me (same title) is just fine. I mean, we don't have any license on these things... and I consider it a great way to compare and contrast. I dislike when someone who has no idea what they are doing comes in and basically copies someone already doing something, but that is rare.
Odds are, if two (or 6 dozen) people start the same show fandub, then you'll have two different styles and two different experiences with watching. It does become bad with all the many many Sailormoon productions (hey, I'm to blame too)... because after a while you're like [sarcastic tone] "Oh great! Another Sailormoon project... just what I always wanted..."[end sarcastic tone] but even then, those come in phases... we'll have no new sailormoon productions, then we get a bunch all at the same time.
And yeah, I like sailormoon because of the art and the quirky totally expected characters, and of course the fact that its easy to get your hands on.

We're (Ghetto Hamsters Productions) doing a repeat production. It's called Fruits Basket. The old one seems to have died.

I find it really funny how all the Inuyasha productions have the EXACT SAME CAST. Sango and Miroku are the only ones who ever change. (Yeah, I realize this includes me... sorta.)
