*Double post 'cause it deserves it*
Halloween Party next weekend you guys come on, you Ontarians, who's going?
Got this from my AnimeNorth mailing list...
Q: When is this dance? And where?
A: The Anime North - JCCC Dance is on October 29, 2004 - Friday
night. JCCC, The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, is at 6 Garamond,
Toronto. (Near the Ontario Science Centre). For more info:
www.jccc.on.ca
Q: How much??
A: Adults: $10, Kids 12 and under: 5$. Flash us your badge from Anime
North, Toronto Trek or your JCCC membership and receive 2$ off the
dance ticket price! We have extended the discount to the Sci Fi
community as we know they like to dress up and have fun too!
Q: Why is the dance on a Friday night?
A: This was the only night available from the Japanese Canadian
Cultural Centre (JCCC), as they are providing the venue for free.
Note: This dance will be held in the NEW Koyabashi Hall- which has
been created specifically for events that involve sound (e.g.
concerts/dances/premieres)- it has a new wicked surround sound
system, so expect a much higher quality of sound for 2004!
Q: Who is getting the proceeds of the dance?
A: Any out of pocket costs for the dance will be covered by the
proceeds. After that- they will go to the JCCC in order to have
similar events in the future.
Q: What time does the dance start? How late?
A: The doors open at 7pm, music at 7:30pm and goes until around 12-
12:30 am. We are confirming if the last bus from the area is at 1am.
Q: Hey, can we do "XYZ"/perform/skits just like we do at a con?
A: Though the JCCC is a big place now, this is a dance first and
foremost. There are great cons at other times during the year to
enjoy around the Toronto area. If anything, this may evolve into a
fall cultural event.
Q:Is this an all ages dance? Can my 12 year old brother come with me?
A: This is an alcohol free dance and hence ALL AGES are invited to
attend. We will be checking people in as they come into the dance for
flasks and other types of methods for hiding alcohol. Also, as the
parking lot is owned by the JCCC, the Dance Security Team (primarily
parents from Anime North, JCCC and Toronto Trek) will be patroling
the parking lot for alcohol use. If you want to drink-do everyone a
favor and stay home or go to your favourite bar.
Q: Will there be a coat check or some lockers/change rooms?
A: There are a few unsecured lockers in the washrooms at the JCCC but
items left there are at the risk of the owner. We will have a coat
check area available. You can leave your coats and bags there for
free, but leave at your own risk. Anime North and the JCCC are not
responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Q: Will you be playing other types of music, other than Japanese
Anime, Jpop or J-rock?
A: This dance is being hosted by Anime North and the Japanese
Canadian Cultural Centre and since the theme supported by these two
organizations is based on Japanese culture, it is fair to expect that
the majority of music will be Japanese based. However, the DJ Team of
Maral and Roupen are not totally against other types of music and
will try to incorporate other genres into their music portfolio. So
you may expect a few songs that are not Japanese.
Q: Hey, can I request "XYZ" song to played while I am at the dance?
A: Due to the amount of volunteer prep time that is going into this
event, the DJ Team cannot guarantee being able to take requests at
the dance or that they will play your request.
Q: If I bring my version of "XYZ" song-can they play it at the dance?
A: Due to the amount of set up time that is required and testing
technology and sound tests, the DJ Team will not be able to accept
any music, in any format, presented to them at the dance. If you have
any specific requests, contact: liaisons@animenorth.com
Please note there is no guarantee that your request will be honored.
Q: Will there be a cosplay contest?
A: As this is a Halloween dance, there will be games during the
dance, however, we are not entertaining a contest for this year.
There are conventions for that sort of programming. We want people to
come out, dress up and dance= FUN.
Q: Prizes WOW- what type?
A: Prizes will be a mixture of various things, all donated by the
JCCC, Anime North or various vendors. If you have something to
donate, please contact liaisons@animenorth.com
Q : Do I have to dress up in an Anime or scary costume? What about
props[/i]?
A: You are welcomed to dress up as any of your favourite characters-
all genres are invited to be there! However, the rules and policies
of props/weapons, and body coverage that are enforced at the Anime
North conventions will apply. More information can be found at:
www.animenorth.com/Main/policy.html
Q: What type of karaoke is allowed? I know this really cool Klingon
battle song.....
A: This dance is being hosted by Anime North and the Japanese
Canadian Cultural Centre and since these organizations support
Japanese culture, it is reasonable to expect that most of the karaoke
will be Japanese. However, the Karaoke Master is open to some other
genres- and for more information, please contact him at: Danny Tang
dannytang@rogers.com. If you do not like the selection we have to
offer (all from fans), please bring your own! The karaoke system is
owned by a fan, and is being borrowed for the event, so please play
nice with it.
Q: Did I hear something about DDR?
A: Yes- again on another borrowed system. If you have a rather
selective taste for DDR games and pads, we strongly suggest that you
bring your own, since once again, everything that we are using are on
loan. So please play nice.
Q: Will there be water/juice/pop/snacks there to purchase?
A: Yes, we will have these refreshments available for you to
purchase. Just please be kind and put your garbage in the proper
receptacles provided.
Q: Hey, I want to help! Who do i contact? Or I have more questions!!!
A: Please email Tamara MacDonald at liaison@animenorth.com . Give her
a few days to respond as she is away for medical conferences during
October.
