View Full Version : [ORIGINAL] [NNP+RSO] A Ninja’s Tale: Book of Rokuro – Act #1 <2/25/08>
Zankoku no Yami

DESCRIPTION: A Ninja’s Tale is based on an old idea called Shinobi’sNEXT. The original concept, involving Li, Seiji and Rokuro, was written as an RP by mitzie and myself around four years ago. The two of us had planned on taking it places, but we never got the chance, and due to my lack of ideas, the story died. But when I joined the VAA, I decided to revive it through my favorite chapter “When Cherry Blossoms Fall”. It was not until more recently that I realized there was so much more I could do it with. Thus, here we are, the first book of a planned four. Each book will consist of four acts, if not more. For the prologue to this series, check out the link at the bottom. Now, enjoy the first part of the new series “A Ninja’s Tale: Tales of Love, Trodden Through Blood”.
SYNOPSIS: Given that these are just segments that take place beginning, middle, and end of the story, you are never given the full picture in one book. The reason there are four books, is because I chose the four characters that are connected the most, all in some strange way. So here we have Rokuro’s book, following her story of love. Rokuro and Seiji were once lovers, but unknown conflict split them apart and they are now enemies. Her story starts years after the end of the era of Ninja, and the original story. She is chasing after the man that betrayed and forsook her in an attempt to gain hold of his ‘salvation’. After the first act, Rokuro’s story will begin to unfold and you will see exactly why Ichiro meant so much to her that she would go to such lengths to save him. But in the mean time, her story begins at the end.

-Edywn for taking on the role as the main mixer of this story! All mixing was done completely by Edwyn; musical choices, SFX, name it, he did it.
-My dear mitzie who because I RP’ed this story with her, I was able to develop some very important characters in another story. Not to mention this story wouldn’t have become what it was without her help.

Spoke to Edwyn; and that is what it was. I thought it was Lioncourts volume that was low, but it was fruitfly's. I must have forgotten since i didnt mess with the lines for so long, haha. So he had to quite a bit of volume adjusting; and it was mostly my fault for not having the two of them record all lines on a single line. Gonna have to start doing that in the future to make volume adjusting, noise reducing and filtering easier...

Fruitfly is just amazing. *_* Lioncourt is, too. Oh man, their chemistry is just stunning. Even though this obviously took place somewhere random, it sucked me in and I felt like I knew the characters, even though I didn't. Edywn mixed this very well! I'm jealous of the amazing fight scene he put together.
This was just amazing. The ending...was shocking, actually. ;_; I can't wait to hear more!

Truly wonderful work. Masterful mixing from Edwyn, your music choices drove the script so effectively and your use of SFX rendered the action so vividly. Speaking of which, thank you Zankoko no Yami for a terrific and evocative script.
Fruitfly, I loved your performance in this. Your delivery was both strong and nuanced, you moved between hardened warrior and scorned love so deftly. An absolute pleasure to listen to.
A truly exceptional series Zankoku, can't wait to hear the next installment ^^

Yes, fruitfly and Lioncourt make an amazing duo in this radioplay! Really gotta love the chemistry like you mentioned!
And yes, where it takes place is random, but that is part of the charm of this series (which I am glad you picked up on). Four books on four different characters; each spanning four acts. You will never get the full story until you hear them all! The acts are set up so that you can understand the basic principals, but at the same time, keep you guessing and never giving you the full story. Tricky, but I hope this act and future acts prove to be done in a way that the audience won't want to stop listening until they hear the full story about all these tragic souls~

I couldn't agree more. Edwyn is a master at picking the perfect music; and boy did the music choices really emphesize the scenes, along with the wonderful SFX~
And that is exactly why I choose fruitfly; she has that voice of a strong woman, but also gentle in her own reguard. And was able to switch between emotions in a fluid and believable fashion. Though, you too, were more than excellent! Your performance was very fulfilling and strong! I feel the two of you really did the job and emphesized your respected characters in a way that out did my original vision!
I also can't wait to work with the two of you again! Hopefully sometime in the near future at that~
Thanks for your reviews! They are much appreciated~

Wow. I absolutley loved this! Except...Lioncourt's voice was a bit lower than Fruitfly's...
The voices are at fairly equal volume, it just sounds a lot different because Lioncourt's audio is at a left pan while Fruitfly's is at a right pan in the speakers. Which adds a really nice effect, so props to Edwyn for that.
SFX were epic. Music was effect. Battle scene was epic. Voices were epic. Phil's laughing was epic.
All around epicness.
I demand a possible reinactment of this scene at Otakon.

Ahah. Okay, then. It probably sounds weird to me because my left speaker is broken. xD;

Didnt even think of that as a possibility, haha. Yeah, if one has bad speakers or not taking note to that, one voice would appear lower than the other!

Glad you liked it so much! And yes, Phil's laughing truly was epic! Hahaha! (everything else too, of course~ Edwyn is a genius after all! but you just got to LOVE the laughing!)
I demand a possible reinactment of this scene at Otakon.
That would be a true honor if there was a reinactment of this scene at Otakon~ (someone would have to video tape it for me if any of you decided to go through with it!)

Okay, wow.
First the mixing is really good – I really liked it! Way to go, Edwin!
Rokuro is very well done by Fruitfly; her character came out just as I imagined her in my mind! ^^* totally awesome!
And as for Ichiro….. I have to admit he's a character I love to hate, in a way. But Lioncourt has done a tremendous work nevertheless!!! I mean – WO-HO-W!!
Everyone here has done an amazingly good work! Listening to this, it's so clear and well-done that I feel it's happening right next to me – exactly the feeling one should get!
I'll add that the reactions and comments of the characters during the action – beautiful….
This was, in my opinion, a pro piece. Very good everybody!! I really love it!
Hey, Zank – keep 'em "Ninja's Tale" art-works coming, ay? (;
salut!

Lovely to hear your take on this first piece, mitzie~ i have many ideas conjured up and ready to explore. I may even have ideas for a fifth book that basically ties in all the lose ends. But of course, in the mean time, you will have to help me with Seiji's character as co-writer of this series~

Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much! I hope for other pieces to be as pleasing to the audiance~ and hopefully tie in lose ends. After all, revenge was something that never crossed Rokuro's mind and there is far more to Ichiro's story than mere betrayal! Ah, the ideas are a coming for this series now!
Thanks you two for your reviews/critiques! Hope to have more out in the near future if at all possible! (I may have to start the beginning to other books in the mean time though, given the circumstances)

This was really, really nice to come back to. I've been really anticipating this production, and it came out beautifully!
I was really excited to hear Lioncourt's take on Ichiro. I don't believe I've had the pleasure of working with him before, and the chance to work with someone whom I really respect, especially playing opposite him, was very exciting. Not to mention Edwyn's mixing, which I heard on the first trailer way back when and I knew would really bring this scene to life. It feels like I've been sitting on the edge of my chair ever since I got the script. I've been torn between thinking "Is it out yet? Is it out yet?" and "OHGOD! What if I SUCKED??"
I loved it.
Lioncourt, you were so hateable. So deliciously hateable. Every time you did that snide, wicked laugh I could feel the Rokuro wanting to yell "STOP LAUGHING AT ME!" You really brought Ichiro's arrogance out and slapped me in the face with it every time I tried to appeal to you. I loved it.
Edwyn, once again your sfx work and choice of music really made the scene work. The fighting bit really was something special. Oh, and the coughing up blood part.. wow. That was gorey. Fantastic.
Thanks to Zankoku, for writing such a great story, and for casting me as such a great character. No matter how many characters I play, Rokuro is always going to be very special to me. It was really a priveledge to be a part of this production.
Spoke to Edwyn; and that is what it was. I thought it was Lioncourts volume that was low, but it was fruitfly's.
I apologize for that. There were a lot of parts where I was speaking rather quietly, and didn't realize that that sounds fine on my computer when I'm all alone, but doesn't so much work in a mix. *facepalm*
I demand a possible reinactment of this scene at Otakon.
OMFG that would be so much fun. Perhaps I should cosplay, too. Let me just get out my blood soaked scarf. ;)
Rokuro is very well done by Fruitfly; her character came out just as I imagined her in my mind! ^^* totally awesome!
That is one of the greatest compliments I've ever gotten! It's really something special to be able to bring an original character to life, and I'm glad I did it okay! Thank you!
Enough of my blabber. Thank you, everyone, and excellent job!!

Hehe, I knew this would be something you'd definately enjoy coming back too or something that might cheer you up during your hiatus! Especially with the wonderful job you did~ and now you can see why i had edwyn mix this instead of myself. I can easily say that when it comes to the mixing of producing between Edwyn and I...there is really no comparrison. Honestly, the guy is a genius and he is my idol when it comes to this stuff!!
But definately take a look at your performance; it was brilliant. Your ability to so smoothly transition from your range of emotions without it sounding odd or fake or whatever, is one of the biggest things I needed for your character. I do not think there is a female on this forum who could voice act Rokuro any closer to what i originally imaged than you; what more can I say? You ARE Rokuro. And your chemistry with Lioncourt, is nothing less than amazing. You two really served to further compliment one another and I do believe you both far surpassed my original vision~
I am really glad you enjoyed this piece! I remember how much you were looking forward to it when I first sent you the script; so its wonderful to hear that the wait was worth it~
OMFG that would be so much fun. Perhaps I should cosplay, too. Let me just get out my blood soaked scarf. ;)
Haha, and you actually know what Rokuro looks like so you could easily cosplay her~ though, have you been cutting men who wear scarfs? Because i have to ask where you got that blood soaked scarf~ *shot*
That is one of the greatest compliments I've ever gotten! It's really something special to be able to bring an original character to life, and I'm glad I did it okay! Thank you!
Savor it! Because it's very true. You are HONESTLY the only person that I believe could truly bring Rokuro to life. And you gave her life beyond my anticipations! So I really couldnt agree with mitzie more on this; so you definately deserve that compliment~
Thanks for your review!! It was very much appreciated~

Oh... that... took me about two months to listen to this... Sorry! I've been so busy! Anyway... AMAZING. Zank and Edwyn's combined mixing seriously rules. Sound effects were very good; the scene seemed very real :D The script is very well written too. Lioncourt, incredible acting! I especially liked the laughing and hacking, haha. Supah cool voice you used there too. Fruitflyyyyy! So elegant! So cool! Great acting and such a pretty voice! <3 You two, you sounded so awesome together!!
Awesome clip, all of you! Can't wait to hear more!
P.S... When Full Metal Alchemist said "Except... Lioncourt's voice is lower than fruitfly's" I totally thought she meant lower in pitch (as a joke), since... fruitfly's voice is so low... if you know what I mean... or... maybe not.. *SHOT IN THE FOREHEAD*

Wow. Im usually kind of lazy about downloading/listening to anything coz its usually not worth it. BUT WOW! This was like a movie. Dialogue and plot and mixing, all amazing! Same goes for performances.
Lioncourt- Wow you give this role a 100%. Spectacular performance. And that laugh was so positively creepy, it was freakin amazing! I honestly dont know how you pulled off that death scene so well.
Fruitfly- You said your lines so passionately and your acting was so good that I became envious!!!! xD Splendidness!! In this role, your voice is so strong and yet so vulnerable, its beautiful :) Just lovely
