Escaflowne Movie OST
Note: You'll have to turn your speakers WAY up or put on headphones at medium volume because the levels are WAY off.
This is the first dub I've mixed, please be gentle with critiques.
ALSO: DO NOT compare these actors to the original. I want to hear critiques on their performance, NOT on 'how much they sound like the original or not'. Please be constructive as well. If you're just going to tell me about your disdain for this, then don't bother. Because while I don't mind that people don't like it (not everyone will), we all want to improve, not to hear someone whine. :)

Heh, I was just thinking about this dub the other day and here it is! And it does sound pretty good for your first time mixing a dub. I think the only real critique I have is that it was almost impossible to hear Allen most of the time. I'm horrible with critques, especially when they're of things I'm in, but I thought everyone did a great job. All the voices suited the characters. I'm even pretty pleased with my performance, which is unusual. So basically, aside from a few problems with levels being off, good job!
Oh by the way, Mochan, if I do an Escaflowne project in the near future it's your fault because this project is the reason I finally sat my butt down and watched Vision of Escaflowne. And now I'm hooked.

Wow, really? =D I freaking love Escaflowne. *_* The series needs to be dubbed (with GOOD voices) more than the movie. *winkwink, nudgenudge* But seriously, glad you enjoy it! =D

Wow. This fandub is way better than the official English dubbed version. The voices for all the characters were perfect. Hitomi sounded older than I expected her to sound, but I loved it anyway, it still fit her character. Allen's voice did seem a bit quieter than the rest of the cast, but I think this was mixed very well.
Great job to the cast and Mochan for the mixing. I definitely would like to see more in the future. ^^

Yeah, some of the levels were varying, but considering I know nothing about mixing a dub I'm sure it's not easy. The cast all sounded great to me!
One thing I noticed that stood out to me a little was in one part toward the middle where she was in the robot thingy (guess who doesn't know Escaflowne?) and there were a ton of sound effects going on. Again, I don't do fandubs and I know the process for getting the sounds can be hard, but at the same time I was hearing the reaction sounds from the original actress and I was kind of wishing it was you instead just for continuity's sake. But that's really all I can think of.

but at the same time I was hearing the reaction sounds from the original actress and I was kind of wishing it was you instead just for continuity's sake.
The only reason I did that was because of the SFX. Screams and noises have been left in from the originals before in several fandubs, so I figured it wasn't such a big deal. I did do the sounds but then realized it would have been a very big hassle for me for my first dub. Don't worry, this won't be habit. ^^;

At first I was kinda skeptic about this clip, mostly because I've seen both the English and Japanese version of this movie. I could tell when parts from the actual dub were slipped into this though. Some of you guys could've done better on your lines, especially Allen's voice. To be quite honest, I didn't buy Folken's voice; it wasn't as dark and sinister as how Brian Dobson portrayed him or how Jouji Nakata did him. But the clip was OK, but in all honesty I prefer the actual dub over this one. Sorry.

Did you read my first post? ^^; I kindly asked everyone not to compare these voices (or this clip even) to the original. But rather, give a critique on their performance. It wasn't very constructive, either. How could everyone have done better on their lines?
I don't mind that you didn't like it, I didn't expect everyone to. This fandub is to help us with our acting and mixing and it would be really appreciated if you could just give us some constructive criticism on our acting and mixing and not compare us to the original, because we're not looking for any prizes to be exactly like the original (cause that's just silly).
But, thank you for watching! ^^

I'll download this and edit my post with a critique. :3
EDIT:
Mixing: I thought the mixing have been done a little bit better. The vocals were all way too low compared to the music playing in the background (but you know that). Also he screen was way to small so it was hard to watch. Might wanna fix that. o.o
Other than that I had no problem with the voices and SFX were real good in most places. :3

Hitomi: In some places, it seemed like you made her sound TOO depressed in the spots where it wasn't that heavily portrayed. But you did a great job as Hitomi, well done. :)
Yukari: Watch out for those puffs, sweetie. :) Acting-wise, I can't really find anything to critique. It really sounded like the personality of the character to me.
Folken/Mole Man: ...It kind of sounded like you were trying to go much lower than you can, which detracted from the performance. And it kind of sounded wooden to me. You did an awesome job as the Mole Man, though!
Allen: I have NEVER liked this character. NEVER. BUT! That doesn't stop me from thinking you actually did a pretty good job playing him. Not sure what to say to help you improve, since it was good enough for me! ::Thumbs up.::
Gaddes: Heehee, Gaddes. XD Too bad your part was so short, I would've liked to hear more Gaddes out of you, I liked it.
Van: Ahh, only one line! T_T It sounded a TAD flat to me, but then again, it WAS only one bit, not a lot to go off of. Van's a pretty introverted character usually. (Good Lord, has it been a long time since I've seen the movie AND the series....)
Merle: Ahhh, quite possibly my favourite character! XD You nailed her worry for Van quite well, I think. But be careful when you shout, it got a bit tinny there.
As for the mixing, it's not too shabby for your first time. Mixing is HARD, especially when you're trying to keep all the sound effects as close to the original as possible, and actually USING the original. Some lines got cut off, but I still knew what was being said. (Or is that because I've seen the movie? Ehdonno...)
Nicely done. :) :hug

Thank you so much for the wonderful critique, Hane! =D It will definitely help us all to improve. This was definitely a learning experience. Glad you enjoyed it!
EDIT:
Pam: I have no idea why the screen is so small. :/ It must have been the way I compressed it. I'll play around with it. Thanks for watching and critiquing. :3

Wheee~ I love Escaflowne!
Okay Critque time! no comparing to dubs? I like it! I think it's better to consentrate on the acting anyway. Geez I sound stuck up XDDD
Mixing : I notice some of Yukari's lines got cut off. I tell you. Mixing is alot of work. Evening volumes can be a pain when everyone has different mics. It is good for a first try. I gotta admit. The music was too loud at certain points and certain sounds cut off. Yay! there was ambiance sounds in some scenes <3 I heard some dub voices in certain sound FX or was it just me?
Now for the cast. Microphone wise. There's flaws here and there but don't worry I'm mentioning the acting now.
Hitomi : She's soo sad. I like the depressed tone since the character was actually depressed so it matches perfectly.
Yukari : It suited her nicely.
Folken : Oooh. A different potrayal Bomberman <3 I loved the way you delivered the lines. Nice job <3
Mole Man : Nice one. No complaints
Millerna : very nice. I like the tone and delivery.
Allen : I like it. It suits the character very well <3
Vaan : The line needed more energy. Something about it felt flat to me.
Gaddes : Nice voice and emotion. No complaints
Merle : Momo, I think you needed more emotion for merle. She needed to sound more worried and the yell needed more emotion also.
I enjoyed this dub overall.
3/5
I'm looking forward for future fandubs.
To be quite honest, I didn't buy Folken's voice; it wasn't as dark and sinister as how Brian Dobson portrayed him or how Jouji Nakata did him.
Actually It was Paul Dobson who voiced Folken in the dub XDD Not Brian. It's funny how both Dobson's are brothers.

Wow nice job!
A few mixing problems, but the voices were all lovely and fit the charcter profiles really well. I'm a big Escaflowne fan, so I would know. xD
