Okay, seeing as I haven't done a cast eval yet~~this is going to be hard to do, since I just did one for the Secret Recordings (plugplug)...

Rin/Kikku - Your emotion and vocal inflections were really top notch. I couldn't find anything to critique here. Why haven't I seen you around in more things? You're way too good for me to ever have over-looked you! Especially impressive was how cheerful you sounded at the beginning, and yet so warm (but still Rin-ish!) in the final "What are you talking about?" towards the end. *wibbles* You nearly brought tears to my eyes when it was time for me to do my lines. I just wanted to cry "Riiin-chaaaaaan!! TAT" I also have to mention that the line which you spoke with your mouth full was perfect. For some reason, I still have trouble "faking" that, so any tips you could offer would be most welcome!

Urara/LittleStar - You, my darling, are the epitome of moe-voice, in my opinion. You sound tiny and cute and adorable without even having to try! While standing alone, your lines might sound a little cardboard, it is wildly appropriate for the character and this show--as Urara is the embodiment of the target audience for this show--or I should say, she is the most accessable. Therefore, your "after-school special" delivery of the final lines of Urara were spot-on. I am very tempted to give you a new mic for your birthday or something because I still feel a bit of muffling in your mic, and also I heard the reference clip a few times in the raw footage that I tried my best to edit out. Be careful with that. If you need the sound playing while you record, put on headphones. XD

Komachi/Mirielle - Your range astounds me. Not enough people get the chance to hear your higher-range voices. You were made for this role, Mirielle. The more and more you work with this character, the more I hear your voice over the original--I cannot think of any higher praise to give you than that. You and LittleStar are the two I really want to give a new recording set-up to, though...I can hear your computer fan in the raw footage of your recordings, and trying to edit it out without compromising the integrity of your lines was a choice I had to make one way or the other. I cannot wait to do some more dramatic scenes featuring Komachi, because I think you're pretty much ready for those. <3

Karen/Haushinka - What can be said about you that hasn't been heard before? Your clear, articulate voice sounds so elegant as Karen--without sounding too old (like the original does--you know she is nicknamed "Babaa" in the fan communities?). Your voice perfectly matches the facial expressions in each clip, and your manage to keep the strength of the character without compromising her reserved manner. You captured the essense of the ideal Yamamoto Nadeshiko for Karen, which is essential for a successful performance. Looking back on the clip now, I realize I need to up your volume level a little bit. I apologize for that, and will fix it as soon as I get home.

Coco/Masako - I've already told you on a daily basis...that you are totally the show-stopper of this clip. Everyone I have run this by while mixing (Precure fan or no) has swooned over your incredible performance as Coco. I had a feeling this would be a challenging clip for you, considering the wide variety of emotions and voices you had to pull off here while being the same character--with no time changes in the scene. Your lines--from the frantic screams, the words of relief, to the desperate gasps...all of them were pure magic. I had faith in you before you did this clip, but now that faith was solidified into pure confidence. You are so perfect for this role. I am so humbled to co-star with you in this. And that is all I can say while maintaining a facade of professionalism. Ahem.

Nuts/P3RFECT - There isn't a whole lot to comment on for this clip--I would like to see about getting you to say the "-nuts" suffix with a little smoother flow at the end of the sentence, though.

Kawariino/Matt Alan - This is my first time working with you, and in the beginning it was a risk! Essentially it went "I need someone that could do Kawariino. Can you give it a shot?" I was so totally not sure what to expect, as the voice in Japanese just does not translate well, I had to aim for a competely different voice. And right off the bat, you nailed it. Hearing for the first time sent shivers through me...then it caused me to squirm uncomfortably--which is exactly what was needed for the creepy businessman-thing this character has going. Utterly perfect. Deliciously evil. It sounds like you had a lot of fun to boot, which is, in my opinion, 90% of what makes a good voice acting performance.

Bunbee/Kumada42 - I was so happy that Bunbee was in this clip...not only is the character a fan favorite (he is the only villian from the first season to return in the second--YAY!), but your version of him is every bit as good, if not better, than the original (but you know I feel that way). I laugh so hard every time I hear you--but in a good way, since I know that you don't sound a thing like this. This role really shows off your creativity and skill as a voice actor, if you ask me. Thank you again for stretching yourself for one of my projects. <3

Milk/Chell - You are sosososososoooo cute. You nail this mascot-thing perfectly...I am really hoping that Milk is Milky Rose in the new season...because that would mean you would get a whole lot more airtime. This clip is actually from one of the first episodes that has a lot of Milk in it, so I might snag a few more clips from here to give you a better chance to shine.

Nozomi/Mippa - Overall, I am actually quite pleased with my performance on here. It took me a few days to do it, since my allergies and awful cold prevented me from doing more than 10 lines at a time without being in pain or cracking. There were times where I thought I sounded too much like the original (namely the tiny things, like the first "Eh?" and some of the gasps) and I felt I was inconsistent during the softer, more dramatic parts...did I sound stuffy? I dunno, maybe I am being paranoid being paired up with Masako in a scene for the first time, I am getting jitters. ;;

BUT, I am pleased with one particular line: "That's what he taught me!" I really really really love how I did that line for some reason...so allow me a moment to say "Go me!" I thought the emotion elevated properly right there, and I didn't think I was going to be able to pull it off.

Overall, I think, cast-wise, this group is utterly amazing. I cannot imagine having a better group of people to bring this show into English...and face it, both the English and Japanese fans have given strong approval to us (NicoNico Douga YAY!), so I see no reason not to keep doing what we are doing. I am so proud of all of you--I could not ask for a better cast, seriously. I love working with you all so much.

...that being said, I am going to start working on a full-episode project. I think we're just about ready!

Mixing - I hadn't noticed until this morning that there are a few spots where I feel the volume levels could be adjusted. It's very minor, actually, but namely with Karen and Komachi. The lower register characters, naturally, sometimes get lost in the background music when not loud enough...so I will fix that as soon as I get home.

I learned a lot from this clip, and it drastically reduced my production time. I started this clip two weeks ago--and the only thing that prevented it from coming out on the 11th was that a few people hadn't gotten their lines in. (It's okay, I forgive you. <3)

But that being said. It took me less than 8 hours to make a fully "karaoke" version of the clip as a reference for people...at that rate, I could (hopefully) make a full episode karaoke over the course of a weekend.

What was also really impressive about producing this clip was the amazing support of the PreCure fan community. The only reason I hadn't gotten this clip out before (as I have wanted to do it since the episode came out) was because I was waiting for the second OST, which came out in the beginning of February. Unfortunately, the middle track was not from YPC5, but from Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star. So I had no idea what it was from.

So I uploaded the Japanese clip to the Livejournal community, asking for help (and fully prepared to either a: replace the track with something appropriate or b: go to Tsutaya and rent whatever OST I need from another Pretty Cure series) and within the hour, one of the members located the song and uploaded the track for me.

I love this fandom. I really do. They are so supportive. But I rambling. I am just saying that making this clip was such a positive experience for me...it's a great first project, fulfilling both my dream of "being a magical girl" and finally fandubbing after so many years of wanting to.

I am hoping that feeling is somehow channeled through my performance as Nozomi, but I can never be sure. ^^

Nozomi/Mippa - Your voice is absolutely perfect for this character, its insane. Many times when actors voice cutesy girl characters, they really go over the top into a super high-pitch and, for me, this makes the character completely unbelievable. (I mean, come on, who talks like that?!) But your voice, while higher, was SO natural and sweet and compeltely believable. This is my favorite role of yours so far!

Rin/Kikku - I've never heard anything by you either but your emotion was absolutely wonderful. Your voice really stood out to me and your reactions were very natural! Great job! Randomly...I think you'd do an incredible job voicing Sora from Digimon...your voice sort of reminds me of her for some reason!

Urara/LittleStar - Your voice was so appropriate for this character! You just ooze of sweetness! I loved your "Come on!" line! Great, adorable performance!

Komachi/Mirielle - Really, really nice job! Your airy voice was perfect for this character! I don't know what else to say!

Karen/Haushinka - I've never heard your voice sound like this before - its really refreshing and pretty! The maturity suits your voice well! Your emotion, as usual, was very appropriate and believable and you did a fantastic job!

Coco/Masako - Your voice is so nice to listen to! It's very smooth and really fit hte character perfectly! Nice job!

Nuts/P3RFECT - Not too much to comment on but you sounded great!

Kawariino/Matt Alan - Very slimy and convincing - good job!

Bunbee/Kumada42 - I thought you sounded a little forced but the emotion was 100% there! Nice job!

Milk/Chell - I've never heard the original's VA's take on this character but I really liked what you did! It's hard to do a character like this without sounding forced or fake but you sounded great!

Overall, great job everyone!

I will once again express my overwhelming dislike to this fandub,
how can you tease me with something well mixed, well acted and not give me more? Grrr.

:P In all seriousness, I better get to play that other character when you do a clip with him *Waves fist*

Well, once again, I don't know the series well enough to get into detail (I need time for a life. Or no life. What?), but that was just... good. Seriously. The acting was fantastic, I saw nothing wrong with the mixing. Very enjoyable to watch. ^^

OO that's good! more to watch! hehe

Edit: Okay here's a review...or something XD

Nice to see a longer clip from this!
Makes me have more of an urge to dig up mine again...no no no... not more magical girls!! XD then again I also had the urge to do another one from splash star too... too many magical girls lol. You're right I am a Magical Girl fanatic.

Nozomi Yumehara/Cure Dream: Mippa
OMG. SO. CUTE. Yeah you really need these kind of roles more, even though I love your lower type voices too :D but you can defiantly do these ones just as well!

Rin Natsuki/Cure Rouge: .Kikku.
Defiantly different. I always pictured her with more of a boyish sound but this kind of matureness in your voice seemed to work well for her too.

Urara Kasugano/Cure Lemonade: LittleStar
I think I like your voice for her the more I hear of it. It's just so cute and youthful that just gives her life.

Komachi Akimoto/Cure Mint: Mirielle
You do give her a really nice airy quality that works well.

Karen Minazuki/Cure Aqua: Haushinka
You're always great with these kind of voices, and it really suits her well.

Milk: Chell
Not really much here though but was cute as is most stuff I hear you do.

Coco/Kouji Kokoda: Masako-kun
Wow! That's just perfect for both sides of him. You can do that rather stuffy somewhat annoying sounding voice for his animal self really well, and then switch to the human side and have them sound fairly different which is good.

Nuts: P3RFECT
Not too much to comment on really, though from what was there I think it could have been a little higher but not too bad. You seemed to have better emotion this time around as well so that was good.

Kawariino :: Matt Alan
You were just perfect for that creepy weirdo >D Then again you always are good at roles like him :P

Bunbee :: Kumada42
Like Kathryn, I found it a bit forced and well maybe a tad too young but emotion defiantly came through pretty well.

Mixing: Was defiantly great this time! Still a few audio levels that could be a bit louder near the beginning when the girls are talking at the table but other than that it was pretty good.

*Stares back up* yeah I still feel lazy, and can't think of much to say. lol.

What's this what's this what's this?! Everyone's been working and I've been left out? As cheif editor of the Cinq Lumier News, I, Masuko Mika, will take it upon myself to report on this incredible scoop! If you wanna know, we wanna know!

Nozomi/Cure Dream: Mippa~
it must be tough to be producer and VA, but you do Nozomi so well! Its like theres laughter in your voice, or rather, I can hear your smile. I can tell that you both love this character and love voicing her.

Rin/Cure Rouge: .Kikku.~
I had to resist the urge to hug my computer when I heard your voice. You had so much kindness and emotion in it - I started to tear up!

Urara/Cure Lemonade: LittleStar~
You fit Urara so perfectly its almost a sin! You always seem to convey that air of innocence about her.

Komachi/Cure Mint: Mirielle~
Komachi is so soft spoken and you do a great job of keeping that tranqulity while bringing in energy.

Karen/Cure Aqua: Haushinka~
Theres a fine line between enlightened and snob but I have yet to see, erm, HEAR you cross it. You deliver Karen perfectly.

Milk: Chell~
admittingly, I have not gotten to the part of the show where Milk even comes in yet, but you're so cute! >_<

Coco: Masako-kun~
You were able to switch between emotions (and forms) very nicely and belivably (gah! 3y3 k4n7 sp311!) The coco is soooo cute!

Nuts: P3RFECT~
Another adorable furry animal to squee at. Squee! >_<

Kawariino :: Matt Alan~
ooooh, very creepy, just like a good villian should be! wait, is that an oxymoron?

Bunbee :: Kumada42~
Poor thing, having to wrestle furry creatures must be a hard job, but you do it very nicely!

Now to get a closer look and take a few pictures... just call me Masukomi ka!

Don't worry, I have some fun clips for Mika coming up! Actually, we are just now getting to subbing the eps where Milk comes in...so those should be out soon!

Hokay. Maxie has time to critique now.

Nozomi: Mippa hun, you KNOW I adore how you play Nozomi. You make her sound believably cute and determined. I'm jealous. :o Your level of awesome just continues to climb! I loved how you called out for Coco, it was so....dimensional. Am I being confusing? Yes. Dern. Basically, it had the perfect amount and type of emotion in it, just those two syllables. ROCK ON.

Coco: Masako, I will smack you. You made me squish. ><; HOW do you do that voice without editing it?! ARRGH!!

Okay, end rant.

Your puff-ball Coco lines KILL me. XD Cracks me up every time. I love how easily you seem to switch between puff-ball and human Coco....I LOVED your scene with Mippa, man. Too much rock for one hand! (And yes, I will be explaining that to you soon.) What's there to say that hasn't already been said? You are the epitome of awesome.

Rin: ::Wibble.:: Such warmth in those lines where she "came back"....If I was cold, that would've warmed me right up. XD (Wow, I'm a lame.) Beautiful job. Your voice kinda reminds me of Kira Vincent Davis when she does her boy-voices, just more feminine. (I am a Kira fan, so this is a good thing. :) )

//Okay, starting to get distracted, these are gonna get shorter.//

Urara: ::Ooze.:: Okay, you melted me. I am now goop. See what you did with your cute innocent tone? Grr.

Karen: You are just one talented wonder, Haushinka. You shine brilliantly like always.

Komachi: Aww, how sweet! Gentle and meek-sounding, Maxie lobve. ^-^

Milk: "Stop it, miruuuuu!!!" SQUISH LINE RIGHT THERE!!! GAWD, that was adorable...

Nuts: I agree with Mippa, you should work a bit on the flow of the line when you tag "Nuts" onto the end. (WOW, can I not word stuff..) But I'm still impressed. ;)

FANTASTIC cast, Mippa. You should be a casting director or something, you always pick amazing people for the parts. :)

Masako-kun

Yay, at last the clip is finally done. I've been looking forward to this one for ages. <3

I think you've put together a fantastic cast, Mip-chan! Each person fits their character perfectly. Even though I'm not an expert of the series, it's certainly an interesting story thanks to the apt casting decisions.

In terms of mixing, it is very close to the original. I admire your determination to make sure the audio track (BGM and all) are exactly the same as in the original. There are some glitches in the SFX but they're very superficial - you've fixed the audio levels since I saw the test clip a while back.

So, all in all, it's a brilliant clip-coco! <3

Haushinka

Soooo cute! I still can't get over how great this cast is...

.Kikku.
02-21-2008, 07:46 AM
Omg! It's finished..! This is totally the first fandub I've seen myself in! Very exciting. >w<

Wow just wow. It is so awesome! Mixing, acting everything! Ugh. I don't think it could be any better honestly. D: Except for my part. I still don't have a firm hold on the voice for her, and I do think my voice is lacking a boyishness that she needs, as Sukisho said. I will work on it though. <3 Everyone else did so well with their characters and I'm so happy I was able to be in this with all of you! It's really a great experience and I can't wait for future clips!

-watches again and again- <333

Ahhh, Kikku, you were spot-on to me, hun. :3 I can't imagine ANY professional voice-actor to play Rin now, because you were THAT incredible to me. You'll always be the English voice for Rin to me-miru! \mm/ Rock!

.Kikku.
02-22-2008, 12:49 AM
Oh wow.. Thank you so much!! You're too sweet.... ; ; -tears of joy- T^T
Hearing you say that makes me so so happy, you have no idea. <3

Trust me Kikku, if Sam or I wanted you to do something differently, we would have asked you. I think your Rin is absolutely perfect. She especially needs that depth when playing off of my shrill voice, which makes for the perfect chemistry. <3

I wanna do more scenes with Riiin-chaaaan! XD XD Actually, one of the top requested scenes from the community is one between you and Haushinka, so...

I think you sound plenty boyish, but that's just me~but I'm the producer/director, so!!

Matt Alan
02-22-2008, 04:40 AM
^.^ First thing's first, my familiarity with the series isn't that great, so I knew absolutely nothing going in, other than what Mippa had squeed to me about over chat. This was a pleasure to record for, and had a bit of surprise awaiting me when I saw how well mixed this production was. Most amateur fandub productions are, well, amateur. The mixing of this was an exception, I rank the producer's mixing up there with Tamtu Bui, Nikki Jones, and Mindychan's group, as among the "upper echelon", of video and audio manipulation. A true challenge producers face when working with us amateurs, is the various levels of recording quality. Being able to manipulate various qualities levels into a happy balance is quite the challenge, that the producer has met. Music and sound effects were very appropriate, good levels. Damn good job on the technical side of things.

And just to repeat before anyone reads my character critiques, these are all MY impressions and opinions and I have verrrrrrry little knowledge of the show or the original seiyuu performances. Take these with a grain of salt here.

Cast
Nozomi Yumehara/Cure Dream :: Mippa - The character who shows off the most range and acting ability. Knowing you like I do away from the AVA World, hearing you play a role like this brings such a smile to my face. XD Your range is breathtaking, and it really shows here with you convincingly playing a teenage character so well. The ONLY line that felt off to me was the, "Sure Sure" line. It didn't feel natural but I feel that was as much with the script's translation and lip flapping, than anything else. A superb performance.

Rin Natsuki/Cure Rouge :: .Kikku. - Hmm....I had this really different idea of what she'd sound like, like an english dub Sailor Jupiter, tomboy voice. The acting was fine, no complaints, just not what I imagined the voice to sound like. Ah well. ^^ Lets hear more!

Urara Kasugano/Cure Lemonade :: LittleStar - That was made of all sorts of adorableness. XD Dear god, that was cute.

Komachi Akimoto/Cure Mint :: Mirielle - It felt...flat. The voice, the acting, maybe its the character though. I get the impression that this character is the "Sailor Mercury" character, but there's a difference in being quiet and sounding emotionless. I feel like you could have taken this character in another direction. I know you can do it.

Karen Minazuki/Cure Aqua :: Haushinka - First impression, "She sounds like a bitch! >O!!" ....and then I laughed. XD

Milk :: Chell - Short, adorably cute, felt appropriate for the character here. Looking forward to hearing more! =D

Coco/Kouji Kokoda :: Masako-kun - I would have asked for a few retakes on several of the lines. It wasn't a bad performance by any means, in fact it was very acceptable, but I feel you could have cranked out even more than demonstrated here. I look forward to hearing how you improve with future productions, and to see what directions you take this character if you play him again.

Nuts :: P3RFECT - Short, but grating.....probably appropriate for the role.

Bunbee :: Kumada42 - The voice made me smile, it was very humorous, however I felt the acting came across as very "saturday morning cartoon villianous". Not very menacing, not intimidating, cheesey and fun. Again, my lack of knowledge of the show makes my impression different than perhaps what the character needs, but I personally felt the wrong approach was made with this character. Reminds me of a Tony Oliver performance. Entertaining though!

Despite all my nitpicking, I really enjoyed this cast and would love to hear more of all of you. Good job guys! =D

Special shoutout to the producer for the dedication shown with this production.

*fans face* Nothing gets a girl excited like in-depth reviews, Matt. <333 And your glowing reviews and insightful comments were much appreciated.

I think in the case of Komachi and Bunbee, your unfamiliarity with the series is somewhat to blame. But at the same time, I don't think that particular reason is enough to disregard what you think. I mean, after all, most people who watch anime on television--especially children--don't usually have the original to compare to, so their first impression (like yours) is what matters.

Komachi is a very difficult (read: IMPOSSIBLE) character to translate properly into English. She is not a Sailormercury character (as she isn't quite as smart, and far more creative)--considering Kira's character is a mix of Mercury and Mars (if we are going to revert to Sailormoon-isms). Komachi's delivery is generally flat in the TV series--actually, it took the original radio drama to see more emotion out of her. I wouldn't fault the actress for this one, but more the reference clip. ^^>

Bunbee is essentially a Saturday morning cartoon villian. Although this scene in particular is serious, the character is anything but. He is the butt of all the jokes, he is wacky, loud, and awkward. If anything, I probably could have asked for some more ad-libbing on Kumada42's part, but I was getting pressed for time.

Funny, everyone is saying that Rin didn't sound as boyish as they'd imagine--but on my end, I was originally wanting her to sound higher pitched than what .Kikku. did! (Which is why she was initally the understudy, in spite of Sam wanting her originally--.Kikku., gomen!! m(_ _)m) But the more I listen to .Kikku., the more I like her as Rin...maybe a little more "spunk" to her voice, but in this mellow clip, I think that's hard to do...even the Japanese voice didn't quite do it. Hopefully the next few clips/projects I do with the cast will do a little better in showcasing this.

I have to disagree about Masako though. I was fully happy with his performance--if I had to be super nitpicky, I might have asked him for a few retakes on the scene after the mask had broken, just for a bit more energy--but I think instead I am going to sit that boy down and actually make him watch an episode or two. XD (Mwahhahahahahahaaa!!) I think it could have been fixed with better sound-leveling on my part though.

Eeee this is what I like to see though! Gimme more, people! Gimme more!

OH! And yes, I hated the "sure, sure!" line. I should have just ad-libbed it--as there was no mouth-flap to match, it was showing the back of Nozomi's head. XD

I've now become a fan of Precure thanks to your clips Mippa! Your cast resonates extremely well together. As with the mention that the characters have different interests, are in different grades, etc. yet they still come together, work well with one another - you actually HEAR that emotion in their lines. It's true, your cast are just that, of different ages, different interests, different ethnicities, whatever, but they come together with one thing - voice acting a role and creating a story while interacting with each other. I don't think it could have been done much better if these cast members were in the same room with one another, bouncing off each other's lines. Rin and Nozomi stood out the most to me. There was realness in the lines, which made them not just lines. Of course, all the girls seemed so wonderful for their characters and Coco too~!

As for the mixing, nothing really seemed out of place. I don't get too picky in the mixing department, unless I'm asked to ;).

These are coming out very well ^_^ and I'm proud to be involved!

Well, this also isn't one of the beginning episodes, Mippa. When one actually watches the series or whatever on a regular basis, they start to pick up on the character's personality. It's even more helpful when the VA ACTS out that personality, which Mirielle did. It's not so much knowing the original to compare it to, I think. It's knowing enough of the story and the characters to understand their personality and how the voice fits.

Did that come out funny again...?

Basically, since I HAVE been watching PreCure and have gotten to know the sotry and the characters, I know that Mirielle did a very nice job acting out Komachi's personality. (And no, not because I've heard the original. ;) )

Wow! This was so entertaining to watch. Great work on the translation and the mixing of the production. The cast was stellar, as always. I apologize for this short and boring critique, but I hate to repeat what has already been said beforehand. ^^;;

Okay, since I just got back from a very physically draining performance, I'll write up a review later. I absolutely loved this, although the only qualm that I'd immediately have is that the volumn levels seem really inconstant.

Nyaaa! Mippa-chan, you need to tell me when you do more projects, I'll seriously take out time to audition! *really wants to work with you other than on ToH stuff*

Wow! Thanks for the comments, guys! Yeah, I noticed that Haushinka in particular was a little quiet. >.> I can't wait to do a new clip so I can try it again.

I am glad you all enjoyed it though! Thanks so much! <3

PS: And Sheepmage, if you want to do something, let me know! We can chat and come up with something!
