Mafia 78: Final Fantasy VI

The moon hangs overhead, clearly ominous in its... ominousity. The ship docks; the mast sways in the growing wind as waves rock the vessel from side to side: it's a mercy the ship made it through the hazardous, rock-strewn coast at all.

... Or not. As the last of its occupants leaves the vessel, it crumbles to the ocean floor, riddled with holes and scratches. Apparently, some magical force had been keeping the ship whole until now. An agent with a hidden agenda, possibly? One might never know.

As fourteen adventurers, each with their own mission and alignments, come aboard the ship, eyes gleam in the shadows: they are not alone.

Rules:

- To make things simple, the two sides involved in this conflict are the Protagonists and the Antagonists. A little research into the game will tell you enough to differentiate friend from foe.


- Day and Night will last a predetermined amount of time, just so that everyone won't complain about having no time to say anything... (Well, actually, it's mostly because I've a 13-hour difference from the rest of you). While I'm awaiting suggestions from the rest of you, would an 8-hour day and a 4-hour night be sufficient...? Both of these times would be subject to immediate termination once a majority has been reached or all actions have been received.

- There are 15 places available, and alternates... well; if there's any demand at all, I guess there will be =/

- No role-claiming, please, although slight role-hinting is possible... and would be funny to see.

- The game will start with a day phase... which will probably mean a random-lynch, but whatever =3

- You may not communicate with other players of this game about this game unless it has been specifically specified that you may in your role PM.

- Erm... any other rules apply, I guess ._.;

So... erm... yeah... I guess sign-ups are open and stuff now.

I think a link to the playerlist should be a mandatory on the initial post just cause it makes it less confusing and easier to find, especially when it comes to keeping track of who is alive and who is dead... *shrug*

Eh, don't worry about it... The first game I tried to do, Suikoden Mafia, almost no one signed up for so I had to cancel it... Another reason I canceled it was because people thought the rules I made were too complicated at the time, heh

But eventually I made a game that turned out fairly successful, at least in my opinion... Though I wish I could have been more organized about it :razz:

It's possible to start a game with 8 people, giving each person the number they wanted: there's a fairly even distribution. Given the small number and the speed at which these games are played, though, it'll probably be over in less than a day if we started now.

I'm not entirely against it, either, given the lack of interest people have in this game, but meh: it kinda puts a damper on a few of the roles I've planned and stuff.

The reason people ban roleclaiming is to help people who haven't seen the shows or played the games, and to keep the game going more. Such as, Say I say, "I'm the Main Character in the show/game!" Then everybody else can start saying their roles, and we can then determine who is mafia by who isn't claiming a role.

Minor roleplay makes it to where the people don't catch on alot, but some people can. That way we learn to trust some people and not others. Thus the Massive Lists of things to help each other out. I hope this helps explain it a little. By the way I'm NOT dropping out! HIGH FIVE! :D

Not really no. You still have "role" and "power" mixed up, and I already explained how they are different.

In a simple 9 player basic game where the amount of powers are pre-determined and known by everyone, then yes, what you are talking about works because there are no real roles. Only powers.

In a 25 player game with 5 mafia, 3 investigators, 3 role blockers, 3 protectors, someone with a double vote, a note dropper, a solo killer, a vigilante, someone who can only talk in smileys, all these powers having something to do with the character, and the exact amount and types of powers unknown to the players, well, it's already clearly a very different game, and the same strategies don't work. Power claiming is good. Role claiming ruins games. And the reason why I already explained.

It's hard to explain. You really just have to have experienced it.

Sure! It makes life interesting. xD How the mods keep from going insane, with that many night actions coming in, though, I don't know.

Of course, there are variations in power, like different investigators learn different things: one get the alliance, one learns the power, and one sees what that person did at night.

Looking at the player lists, I'll be shifting the place of one of the characters so they don't become a redundancy.

To that effect, I'll be taking roles #10, 14 and 15, to be killed by the antagonists (regardless of their alignment) on the first night (Night 0). As a result, mafia may not perform their regular nightkill. Any other abilities they may have still remain their own, though.

The sending out of roles will begin in a bit: I recognize everyone should be at school or at work: it's Friday night here, but it's probably morning for everyone else. Thus, from the moment I post the Night post, night will begin and last till 4 AM (+0 GMT).

'Tyeah, I'll be using that as a standard. Daylight Savings, though, are not something I'm counting on, so myeh.

Erm... first, though, I'll quote myself and clarify that by this I mean that role-claiming seems as safe as you make power-claiming out to be: not that power-claiming is in any way as bad as role-claiming. You've probably got dozens of characters to choose from (FFVI has fourteen playable protagonists alone) and so I don't really see why it'd be that bad... well, except for those who know nuts about the game and can't wiki it (shame on you all, by the way =P).

For the purposes of the game, though, role-claiming is still banned. I'm not sure why at the moment, but it is =P Deal with it. Power-claiming, though, seems perfectly alright...

Fourteen adventurers trek through the thick undergrowth, searching for the abandoned village they should have encountered half an hour ago. Their map lost at sea, they can only rely on their navigational skills... which kinda suck. Seriously: without that handy-dandy World Map, I doubt they'd have been able to get anywhere.

It is night by the time they set up in the abandoned village: each adventurer sets up camp in the convenient houses afforded them. Some of them know of the drama that will soon unfold, and some of them don't. What neither know is of the dark, silent threat looming towards them in the gloom of the nearby woods.

They pile out of their houses, afraid to see what's happened, but thankfully, only find one player dazed, and not dead. The ground about him seems to have been struck by a rather large and imposing scorched crater, though. Maybe if it had gone a little deeper, they might have struck oil.

yukie has been blinded by the amazing ferocity of a Flare attack. But not killed, amazingly. He may not vote today, nya. Actually, he can't talk either, which is just as well, because he had a concert to go to, right?

A little more wary now, they look around to see if anyone has been taken in the night.

What they see doesn't shock them, surprise them, or do anything, really, in the least.

As the town moves in support of Rikka's choice, topleka tries to defend both ladies at the same time with his suave... erm... thingy-ness.

TheFuchsNoir, bkdbear1991 and Pull join in on the voting; TheFuchsNoir even brings coconuts to the party. It seems like Meco, who hasn't joined in the discussion at this point, is doomed.

The town wakes up after a successful scum-kill the night before: unfortunately, they know that a new day will probably bring more death with it. They've just stepped out of their houses when an explosion similar to the one on the first day strikes, bringing with it nothing more than more dazed-ness. The unfortunate victim for today, though, is TheFuchsNoir.

TheFuchsNoir may not vote today, or post, even (I will allow mumbled nonsense, though =D I like mumbled nonsense.) Sucks to be you, nya.

Clearing the crater, the remainder of the adventurers looks about for more signs of devastation: the small showing is quite the hint that there're still others missing. Clearing a small piece of debris, they come to a stop at topleka's house. On the deck of the airship they find parked round the back, they find topleka's asphyxiated body. He looks to have been strangled by tentacles of some sort...

topleka, Setzer Gabbiani and Town Tracker, has been killed. No luck for the playboy, I guess.

But there's more! Lying dead in a puddle of blood just a short distance away lies another body: it's been so badly slashed and mangled that at first it's completely unrecognizable... but a single, severed tentacle a short distance away tells a different story.

Rikka, Ultros and Mafia Octopus, has been killed. Killed very much.

The town goes into an uproar as they discover the SiriusFan17: her throat had been neatly cut open, leaving little mess but a puddle of blood around her.

Who did it? The town is thrown into paranoia again, as people realize that the deaths are still continuing, and the game is not over D=

There is a large pop, followed by a sound like a distant sneeze. Everyone is shocked as Rikka jumps back into play!

Rikka has been revived! Aren't you amazed?!

Even as the town watches as Rikka descends from wherever it was she came from, a different sound is heard. Everyone turns to watch as a giant fish falls to the ground beside her. It flops about pointlessly, with everyone (including Rikka) staring at it askance.

It's a nice fish; the kind that you'd normally cook in a pot, only fifty times bigger. But tht doesn't stop the town from doing exactly that.

What none of them realize is that the fish had eaten SiriusFan17's corpse while no one was looking. D= How completely mean of it.

But you should really take a look at that logic of yours for future reference. I mean, how does one providing information defend oneself? For one, the information could be false. Yes, she's implying she wants Hatomikazuki next on the chopping block, but who said Hatomikazuki was a hero? It could very well be that Hatomikazuki is the person (or one of the people) killing people off, and yukie's actually innocent. :/ It's someone active, and she's been active, as yukie was.

Something else. Bear implied he was an investigator... I'm not sure if I believe that. Did he provide any information earlier in the game? I don't recall him doing so. Only topleka. If he hasn't contributed any information before this point, he's on my suspicious list. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, if he really did show investigative powers before now.
