Mafia 51: Marvel Mafia 2 - Marvel Zombies!

They were replaced by soulless monsters, driven only by an insatiable hunger for human flesh.

Or rather... they will be...

This is no world of Marvel Heroes.

This is the world of MARVEL ZOMBIES!

A Marvel sequel? Already? Yeah, shaddap. We've got some different characters, and certainly a different scenario.

This game follows normal mafia rules. Roleclaim if you must, but try not to ruin the game.

The group gathers the next morning, finding themselves at a loss. The world around them has grown darker and various undead are roaming the streets. They're no match for the superpowers of the heroes, however... but oh, what would happen to the world were they infected themselves?

Before the question can be pondered, gunshots ring out from a few blocks away. The heroes rush to see what has happened when a giant explosion rocks the ground around them. Lying on the ground before them is Kai-Chan, who normally could withstand the might of a hundred men, but seems to have been felled by someone with a great knowledge of killing.

Mirielle is swiftly taken down, and as it happens, she screams something about how all these honkey mutha-lovin' idiots are making a huge mistake. With another outburst of something about Christmas, Mirielle is killed.

Sirius trips mid-run, crashing to the ground. The heroes swarm him as he cries out.

Blood doesn't pour from the freshly dead hero, as it seems to have coagulated days ago. It would seem the victim was riddled with bullets, sometime during its last meal.

Kei leaps at the heroes who have surrounded him but a quick sidestep sends Kei hurtling into a jagged, exposed pipe. His brain flies out the back of his skull, splooshing on the sidewalk.

"Kei... hungriest one... there was..." he moans before expiring... again.

The reason I've yet to say, "I find you suspicious" is because, while I have ideas, I certainly don't have enough to go off of besides gut feelings and process of elimination. At present, this is the order in which I suspect people:

1. Scheris
2. Fernie
3. Leiko
4. Cody

I do not suspect Rikka because I know that she is [was..?] good. I do not suspect Kendra because.. well, you can read my previous post, can you not?

Cody is at the bottom of this list because of his previous investigation; though he is on my list because he has yet to actually bring forth any further information, leading me to think that his powers are conditional or he's using another power nightly. I place Fernie and Leiko in the middle because, while I know who they are, I do not know their status in the game. I don't know if I would be suspicious of someone who can investigate anyone they want, especially after being confirmed, simply because.. that's a role in the game. I'm not sure what you mean by that first sentence, but I think my answer would have to be "No," unless given a reason to believe otherwise.

I realize I'm putting myself on the line by coming forth with information daily. I realize I'm opening myself up for a mafia kill, and yet I do it anyway because if I weren't giving out information, then we would have even less to go off of. I suppose I could have kept all the information to myself so as to save myself from your thin accusations, but then we would probably lose more townies with wonderfully useful powers.

While I know my reasons for initiating this were because he is leaving, I initiated the vote against Kei. While throwing fellow mafia members underneath the bus is certainly a tactic, there was absolutely no reason to do that, when people likely wouldn't have suspected him anyway because he had only posted once in the thread. All I meant was that, while I know that you always seem to put yourself at risk of being killed by the mafia by giving us information, you are usually one of the first ones to die by doing so. I just found it strange that you maintained alive, that's all.
I also do know that by me saying that "it's not" would clear me at all.
After all this game is meant for people to lie, right?
So I don't assume anyone would trust someone so easily.
And you're right, it is a tactic for mafia members to kill other mafia members just so that people would think they're innocent.
I also do know that some people who are mafia tend to kill off their fellow mafia members because they are inactive, right before they are mod-killed for not being active. This is a way they "try" to clear their names by voting for them, and not lose much.

And we also have less than 20 minutes to lynch someone, I believe.

You know, on the very first night, I went to protect EmbersGlow. Except she kind of... ran away from me. When Cody said Leiko was "too fast" for him to gather any information, I can't help but be reminded of EmbersGlow's situation. And guess what? EmbersGlow turned out to be a zombie. Maybe all Zombies are "too fast" for some of us to use our ability on.

You know, on the very first night, I went to protect EmbersGlow. Except she kind of... ran away from me. When Cody said Leiko was "too fast" for him to gather any information, I can't help but be reminded of EmbersGlow's situation. And guess what? EmbersGlow turned out to be a zombie. Maybe all Zombies are "too fast" for some of us to use our ability on.

As the sun sets over the red horizon, Cody and Nikki are at eachothers' throats. Rikka and Chinomi look on in astonishment as the two of them tear and claw at eachother.

"Stop this now," Cody cries, lifting his face mask, "I don't want to have to do this!" He charges up the uni-beam on his chest for a devastating blast.

Nikki, meanwhile, takes the opportunity to reach into Cody's open faceplate and rip off the rest of his helmet. Cody cries out as Nikki sinks her teeth in.

The blast fires from Cody's chest, incinerating Nikki's lower half. She reaches in again with her remaining torso and rips off Cody's face, devouring it post haste. Cody falls limply to the ground, his repulsor jets dying out.

Rikka stands over Cody's corpse. She says something to herself, apologizing to an old friend, and then lifts her shield into the air. She brings it down onto Cody's exposed brain.

"Little harsh, dont' you think?" Chinomi chides.

"Didn't want him to reanimate," Rikka sighs, "To become like the rest."

The two stand in silence for a moment before finally speaking up.

"Let's go," one of them says, "Let's see if we can't rebuild this dead world."

The two heroes leave the battlefield, shaken, but unwavering.

How The Game Worked

From the beginning, Leiko was the first and only of the infected. Every odd-numbered night (night 1, night 3, etc.) she could infect someone else and recruit them to her side. That's pretty much the big twist, here. The mafia was a cult group.

The other thing was that each character had different powers when they became a zombie than they had when they were human. Powers that were normally geared at blocking and vote-stealing rather than protecting and investigating.

Ash - You are ASHLEY J. WILLIAMS! A man from another world, thrust into one filled with tights-wearin' pansies... a lot of whom seem to want to take a bite out of you. With your trusty boomstick, each night you may make a vigilante kill. You don't really care if you kill a cape, because frankly, they're pretty weird anyway. Hail to the king, baby!

Spider-Man - You are SPIDER-MAN! Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood webslinger! Each night, you may use one of two spectacular, amazing abilities!

1. Spider-Sense: If you are targeted during the night, you will avoid the action and find the identity of your targeter. You may not use this ability on two consecutive nights.

2. Impact Webbing: You may target any player, and their action will be blocked.

Colonel America - You are COLONEL AMERICA! Steve Rogers, the star-spangled sentinel of liberty! Each night, you may use your mighty shield to protect yourself or another player. You may not protect the same player on two consecutive nights.

Giant Man - You are GIANT MAN! Hank Pym, the towering founding member of the mighty Avengers! Each night you may use your giant size in an attempt to smash three players. One player will lose their vote, one will be roleblocked, and one will escape.

Wasp - You are the WASP! Janet Van Dyne, the most miniscule of the might Avengers! Each night you may use your sting to cause a player to lose both their night action and their vote the next day.

Luke Cage - You are LUKE CAGE! Power Man, the honkey-hatin' hero for hire with SOUL. Each night you may protect a player using your bullet-proof skin. That player will also be roleblocked. You may not protect yourself nor may you protect the same player two nights in a row.

Black Widow - You are the BLACK WIDOW! Natasha Romanova, soviet super-spy and member of the Avengers! Each night you may stealthily follow around a player and learn their identity. There is a slight chance you may learn whether or not they are infected, as well. Additionally, once during the game you may PM/IM me and perform a daykill.

Iron Man - You are IRON MAN! Tony Stark, wealthy industrialist with a heart wrought of iron! Each night, you may use your incredible technology to scan one of the denizens, learning whether or not they have been infected. You have also been working on a way to escape this dimension, but only time will tell if it works...

Wolverine - You are WOLVERINE! Logan, feral member of the Astonishing X-Men! You have the ability to vigilante-kill a player during even-numbered nights (i.e. night 2, night 4, etc.).

Hulk - You are the incredible HULK! Bruce Banner, gamma-irradiated monster on a rampage! On any given day, you may cast a vote that is underlined. Your vote will be the only vote that counts and will instantly end the day. This power is one-time usage only.

Thor - You are THOR! The mighty Asgardian son of Odin and God of Thunder! Once during the game you may use your mighty Uru hammer Mjollnir to call forth the storms, stopping any night actions from occurring that night.

Punisher - You are the PUNISHER! Frank Castle, a one-man war on crime! On odd-numbered nights (i.e. Night 1, Night 3, etc.) you may perform a vigilante kill.

Quicksilver - You are QUICKSILVER! Pietro Maximoff, the speedy son of Magneto and mighty Avenger! Each night, you may use your super-speed to protect both yourself and another player... though watch out who you protect...

Dr. Doom - You are DR. DOOM! Victor Von Doom, scion of Latveria! You have access to a wealth of great power, which, through technological and mystical means, allows your vote to count twice during the day. You have also been working on a way to escape this dimension, but only time will tell if it works...

Additionally, you are a master of the martial-art of Quack Fu. It allows you to avoid two night actions used against you (50% chance of success). This is a passive ability and you will not be informed when it works.

Spider-Man - Oh dear, Peter, it seems you've been infected! Your Aunt, your wife... you ate them! How could you?! Oh, but it's so, so good...

As a zombie, your powers have changed. Each night you are not zombifying, you may now web down another player. They will lose their night action AND their vote.

Colonel America - Oh dear, Colonel, it seems you've been infected! Everything this country stands for rests on your shoulders, but your love for America has been replaced by a hunger for human flesh!

As a zombie, your powers have changed. Each night you are not zombifying, you may throw your shield into the gut of another player. There is a 25% chance they will die.

Giant Man - Oh dear, Hank, it seems you've been infected! You enjoy the taste of human flesh now, and you fear that, even if you were somehow cured, you may never go back...

As a zombie, your powers have changed. On the first night you are a zombie, you may permanently capture a player and feed off of them. They will be permanently roleblocked and their vote will no longer count. Afterwards, you may not perform the zombification for the group.

Wasp - Oh dear, Jan, it seems you've been infected! Your small size doesn't hide your insatiable hunger.

As a zombie, your powers have changed. Each night you are not zombifying, you may fly into the inner ear of another player and attempt to bite them. After three consecutive bites, they will die.

Luke Cage - Oh dear, Luke, it seems you've been infected! Not even your impenetrable skin could stave off the infection.

As a zombie, your powers have changed. Each night you are not zombifying, you may grab another player and toss them into another player. If the second player is targeted, the first player will be targeted instead.

Black Widow - Oh dear, Natasha, it seems you've been infected! You once betrayed Mother Russia, and now you've betrayed the entire human race!

As a zombie, your powers have changed. Each night you are not zombifying, you may use your stingers to zap another player. They will be unable to vote for two days.

Special Conditions

Note: Remorse was a status that I came up with that would have effected certain zombies. If one of these characters had attempted to infect someone, then they would be banned from the thread for the next day, losing their vote and ability to talk. This is obviously because they feel bad for what they've done.

Ash - Cannot be zombified. If infected, he merely dies.
Howard the Duck - Duck dodge does not protect from investigation of ID.
Spider-Man - Vulnerable to remorse.
Colonel America - Shield does not protect from investigation of ID. 50% chance it will fail against infection.
Giant Man - Vulnerable to remorse.
Iron Man - 50% chance of auto-win game if he is human after seven days.
Hulk - Vulnerable to remorse.
Quicksilver - If he targets a zombie, 50% chance of zombification.
Dr. Doom - 100% chance he, and he alone, auto-wins game if he is human after five days. Vulnerable to remorse.

I played this game all terribly wrong. I almost always went against my gut and ideas to investigate people that I really should have. For example, Initially, I wanted to investigate EmbersGlow during night one, but decided against it because she was asleep.

On Lynch-Fernie-Day, I was deciding between daykilling Scheries or Leiko.. and we all know how that turned out. My plan was.. to lynch either Fernie or Leiko, and then daykill either Scheris or Leiko. I was going to go back and change my vote to Leiko, but I realized daytime was over. Aww. :P

I kept notes on everything and, at the same time, overthought everything. It was ridiculous. :P

But the game was incredibly fun, either way. Kudos to Cody for doing something I hadn't anticipated at the end.

Behind-The-Scene + Nerdiness

Deleted Characters

Okay, so, I had five open slots, JUST in case. I also had five characters in mind for said slots. They were as follows.

Ashley G. Williams

- The Marvel Zombie-verse counterpart of Ashley J. Williams, he would have had the same abilities as the normal Ash, except his night-kill would have ALWAYS failed. Funny stuff. I enjoy joke characters, as you will see.

J. Jonah Jameson

- Peter Parker's boss at the Daily Bugle. You might've noticed Spidey lost his awesome Stealth Photography skill from the previous Marvel game. It would've gone to JJJ, who could've used it every night. JJJ also would die if infected.

Jarvis

- The Avengers' butler. Has human shield protection abilities. As in the series, Jarvis just gave his life up when the Zombie Avengers found him. Same deal here. Would die if infected.

Mary-Jane Watson

- Peter Parker's wife. Would've basically been vanilla. However, if Spider-Man got zombified, she would've died the same night instantly. Would die if infected.

Magneto

- Would have had protection abilities, a la the previous game. However, if infected, the zombies would've lost their next infection night, having gorged themselves on Magneto, a la the book. Magneto would've died if infected.

General Nerdiness

Um, let's see. Quicksilver adding another infection night if zombified ties into the fact that he was responsible for spreading the plague so fast in the book. It also probably would've won the zombies the game. He was also bitten while attempting to save someone he didn't know was zombified, hence his 50% chance of insta-zombie.

Captain America is known as Colonel America, like in the book. Not a significant change, but yeah.

Iron Man and Dr. Doom's auto-wins come from the fact that both men were building portals to escape the zombie-ruled world.

Howard the Duck was chosen as the initial infected because I didn't have a picture from the book with him uninfected. To be fair, I also didn't have one of the Wasp.

That's all I can really think of at the moment. I had pictures set up for both human and zombie versions of every character, and did a lot of math to make sure things would work. But yeah.

Awards
Mafia MVP: Leiko, seeing as she was the only person who was in the mafia for more than a day.
Town MVP: Goes to Cody. His self-sacrifice at the end negated his uselessness throughout the rest of the game. Nikki gets an honorable mention for flushing out Kei and, as usual, leading discussion. Fernie used his night-kill powers wisely.

Mafia LVP: EmbersGlow, perhaps? She didn't even get to use her cool power.
Town LVP: Shigeru. But hey, it's your first game, man. Keep it up. Ig. also had an amazing power that was supposed to be a driving force of the game, but it never got used. : (

So that's it! It's kinda hard to do plays of the game, as things were constantly changing. But that was the nature of it.
