And yes, I have a few sketches to post. I'm starting to draw reference for Soul Heaven (cowritten by Nic-kun) as we're submitting it as a manga shortly. I'm still trying to gather missing lines for the second scene >_>. I never realized how underdeveloped the story was compared to the characters. Here are the workings of some model sheets.

Sacri Malorafect, the lead male character. I can't get his hair the way I want it anymore... ~_~ Anyway, he's a genius in disguise. Lazy with a "I don't care" and "let's party" attitude, he rarely makes it to class, but seems to ace exams anyway. He has no family save his younger brother, who he would do anything for. He also likes the ladies ^^; (gahh need to work on the lower image more >_>)

Joanna Lovelock, the lead female, is top of fashion and trends, but somewhat shy when it comes to interacting with people. She is a perfectionist in her work and has yet to find her goal in life. She is good friends with Ellie, which helps to stabalize her erratic emotions. Being born in a military class family, she is expected to fulfill her parents expectations.

Elenor Price (Ellie) is outgoing, friendly, excitable and all the things that Joanna is not. Ellie is also among the top in her class, but holds onto her fun-loving personality which rubs off on the people around her. She manages to sneak her way into the recruitment exam to find out what is happening to the others. She is also long time friends with Sacri. Her design is totally redone from the original concept, so I definitely need to sort her out more...

And finally Ashkel, the fourth member of thier team after Zag is arrested for some mysterious incident. He always seems to be in another place and wears headphones constantly. Ashkel is also the technician of the group, being exceptional with advanced machinery, but inept when it comes to social activity. In other words, he appears very shy and rarely speaks to others.

vehicle concepts are really hard ~__~

Zag, the unknown factor. Maybe he's on thier side, maybe he's got alterior motives. He's after Joanna, in any case, since he is also from a prestigious bloodline. He and Sacri are at each others' throats constantly. He was originally slated to be one of the GDF surface mission team, but was replaced by Ashkel at the last minute. They find out later, he was trying to access restricted files in the military database and gets caught.

A possible design for the drop ship the team falls to the surface in. It's really big to withstand the landing impact. It wedges partially into the ground to remain upright... that's the idea anyway. From there, the team takes the land vehicle, leaving the empty dropship empty.

Possible flying vehicle. Thought it would also serve as the drop ship, but it's not practicle for that sort of thing as it's designed for horizontal travel. I dunno if I'll have Ashkel smuggle this onboard the drop ship or not....

Yeah~ its all coming together.
I've been doing some more outfit designs for Jo and Ellie. They've kinda come out like those paper doll designs (anyone remember those?). Ahh, MS Paint can't be beat.
Anyway, while doing those I did an Oekaki of Jo in the battle suit and made it look like a 'manga scan'. Its dumb, I know. But feast!

Heeh, this is the same way I draw when I'm trying to come up with character costumes, hair, etc. (before I draw the actualy one)

-Ellie was done nicely too, 'cept for some reason I don't like the bottom middle picture, looks alot like that old Zelda cartoon-style drawings (no offence)
-Really like Zag's full body shot! ^^
-And no offence, you did an AWESOME job, but those last two pics seemed a little...less detailed than the others...

On a technical note: I did like the three images of Elli on the right hand side of that sketch page. They make a very good grouping. If you were to redo those character sketches, that grouping is perfect as it is, and perhaps move the standing pose slightly closer to that grouping.

I see you're having a far better time at designing ships than I am at the moment. I'm trying to design a space ship for some characters I'm working on but as soon as I start putting pencil to paper, the thoughts in my head just go missing!

Anyway, here are some more chara concept work. I was attempting to design a more mission-oriented ground suit for the team (Jo is modeling) and Kih, a surface dweller, on the right. Kih's guardian is that dog/jackal thing named Lynxis. It doesn't talk, despite its... anthro-ish proportions. I may make him more beast like in the actual thing since he's more like Kih's pet than an intellegent creature.

You've done so much work, very good. (Sorry, that "very good" sounds very pathetic, or worse, but not meant to be).

What are you worried about? Your perspective isn't too bad, I've seen so much worse from people who claim they can do perspective! What exactly is concerning you about that? I don't know if I'd be able to help, I find it's difficult demonstrating drawng tips without taking the person through it in real life.

I do like your drawing style, it's fresh, there's lots of movement in the figures and knowledge of form.

No, you're style isn't too cartoony, and you should laugh in anyone's faces that say it is. If you look at Kazuki Takahashi's early style (creator of Yuugiou), it wasn't always so clean cut like it is in the final issue of the Yuugiou manga, and looks a lot more cartoony than your style.

You have a very distinctive style, and I'm very impressed with your inking especially... I could never do that so neat and nice. I'm sure that you'll be successful in breaking into the manga/comics industry. ^.~

YukiYuki: Anyone can draw at any age- that's for sure. There are people who START painting when they retire o_O; So it's never "too late". There's loads of ways you can tone or color a manga. Same goes for inking- some people do it on the computer, others do it by hand. Personally, I ink everything by hand, scan into the computer then apply screentones digitally as though I were doing it traditionally. I've bought lots of screen tones and scanned them for reuse. <--- a little more pocketbook friendly than going full traditional ne??

Then again, most people develop their own way of doing things that they are most comfortable with! Just gotta experiment :P

Ariadyne: Yep, I've played GGX! I made a Jam cosstume a couple years back, too. Though I thought her hair went around in a loop? Those kinds of hair clasps are pretty common in Chinese historical wear ^_~.

I'd always wondered how everyone makes such anime-looking lines. My pictures always come out... weird. But I think I really understand now. XD Something about not putting too much detail on the inking and leaving that for the shadows and shading to show... Must keep it in mind XD!!
