I love reading manga. I'm always looking for some more great series to read. My faves so far are Mars, YYH, and Kenshin. Then again... I haven't even read that many series. Tell me what are your faves? ^_^

Does manga actually count as literature? Anyway, I haven't been reading manga for very long either, only got into it about two years ago. A couple of good ones I can recommend are:

Nausicaä - Probably the best comic I've ever read, and Viz just started releasing it unflipped and in a larger size. (If it wasn't for the fact that I'm broke and the sfx are untranslated I would buy it again in a heartbeat)
Akira - Another classic, if you enjoyed the movie you'll definitely like it, though it might be a tad expensive for some. (About thirty bucks a volume, though they are very big volumes)
Chobits - Much better than the anime, after a few volumes I fell in love with it.
Vagabond - If you like samurai stuff you'll probably enjoy this as well, though it's aimed for a slightly older audience than Kenshin.
Naruto: For some unexplainable reason I love this, if only the volumes would come out faster! >.<

Dragonball - viz did a good job they kept the names and actually seem to have a sense of humour.

Rising stars of manga- Some good stories in there look out for Van Von hunter in book 1 it's getting it's own book yay!

I have only recently started to read manga's regularly. I've only read a few series, but out of the ones I've read, my favorites are:

-Magic Knight Rayearth
-Fruits Basket
-Princess Ai

And besides those I also have Candidate of Goddess, Chobits, Wish, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon Stars, and Azumanga Daioh. Sadly though, the only one I have all of right now it MKR.

Oh... I use to LOVE Megatokyo, but ever since Fred took full control of the story, it's been dying slowly. And now it's just so all over the place, I don't even read the new ones anymore.

Shutterbox is another one I'd highly reccomend. It's very whimsical, and out there, and well, I think the majority of manga fans will find it very interesting.

1.) Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicle (I've only read up to Volume 8 though XD)

2.) Suikoden III (Based off of the game, the art is amazing, and it gives some extra's from the game. I LOVE IT!)

3.) Eerie Queerie (It's so cuuuuute. It just has a nice storyline but also that essential fangirl quality, if y know what I mean ^_~)

4.) Clamp Campus Detectives (I LOVE this manga SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. It's so cute and they have heart put into the cases)

5.) Hunter x Hunter (I love this. It just has so much action and depth)

Others I enjoy are Gravitation, XXXholic, Kenshin, Prince of Tennis, YuGiOu, Disgaea Chronicles, Almost anything really XD

I think right now though it has progressed into where it is being told EXACTLY like a manga, which does not include self-contained pages. But unlike a manga we only get one page at a time. Insteaaad of 100. Thus it is confusing and frustratingly slow.

The best time to read it is every other month, that way it has about a full comics worth of pages up and is generally more satisfying.

It's not scary at all. It's okay in my standards, except the acting might use a little work.
Like the Taiwanese Live Action Mars and Marmalade Boy versions, you just need a little getting used to.
But the music and actors in both Mars and Marmalade Boy are amazing.

Aa! Megami-sama (Great manga and you can really see the mangaka develop his art style over the years... Also, it's funny cause I absolutely hate Skuld in the anime, but absolutely adore her in the manga)

Bleach (Fun manga to read. Orihime is still as useless as ever, heh)
Card Captor Sakura (Sakura is the cutest character ever. EVER. I doubt I will ever see a character/person top Sakura in mindblowing cuteness)
Chobits (I dunno, it wasn't so much Chii that I liked about Chobits, but the overall interaction between the humans and the persocoms.
Detective Conan (I swear all the villians in this manga must have spent their entire life coming up with their crazy plans of how to kill someone, lol... It's fun to guess who did it, how they did it, and why they did it)
Excel Saga (Crazy. Just crazy, haha)
Fate/Stay Night (Only on the first volume)
Futari Ecchi (hehe, At first I felt sorry for Makoto and his sexual failures... But he just kept getting more and more ridiculous with his stupidity that it's a wonder why Yura even stays with him... Obviously an ecchi manga, but it's pretty funny)
Golden Boy (This manga was really great when it was just a collection of one-shot stories about Kintaro working a part time job, learning while on the job and having the woman falling for him right after he leaves... Unfortunately, ever since Lord Masamune appeared, it's really gone downhill)
Karin (haha, I loved the anime for this and just got into reading it's manga and it's pretty good)
Ichigo 100% (Fun manga to read... The ending came out of nowhere though... Or at least it did to me *shrug*)
Love Hina (This is my favorite manga out of them all and the only one I've probably read over 20 times. I pretend the anime never existed and never will, except for the songs that came from it... Also, I'm a complete sucker for tsunderes like Naru :razz:)
Mahou Sensei Negima (I was actually expecting a different type of manga when I first picked this up... Great manga either way!)
Naruto (Please don't associate me with those idiots that like only like the Naruto and DBZ anime *grin* The manga kinda went downhill since everyone's gotten older though. P.S. I hate Sasuke and Naruto to a lesser degree... Rock Lee and Shikamaru should be the leading males imho)
Rurouni Kenshin (Kenshin is just an awesome read and the OVA is good stuff)
Sailor Moon (Beautifully drawn! Definitely liked this more than the anime)

I love "Basara" by Yumi Tamura. Epic adventure story with forbidden love and an a$$-kicking heroine. We were jipped out of an anime series (only 13 episodes??!! what happened to the other 87??), but at least there's 20-something manga to cherish and re-read. They're either finished or very near finished with the English translations. :) Yey.

Anything by Tomo Matsumoto is worth reading. Currently only available for translated sale in North America is Beauty Is the Beast - Bija ga Yaju, and it's worth the buy. It's by Viz, and trust me, it was a good idea to licsense it.

If you can, also look online for translated KISS scanlations - another brilliant Tomo Matsumoto manga. But, if you like generally in the MARS area, here are some I recommend.

Beauty is the Beast - Unique art, compelling characters.
Punch! - Lovely art, interesting and comedic story.
Skip Beat! - Again, nice art, and unique story + amazing protagonist.
Tenshi Ja Nai - A sweet gender-bender story.
Immortal Rain - Packed full of action, romance, and tragedy.
Hana-Kimi - Lengthy but worth it in the end.
Happy Hustle High - From the author of Punch!
Wild Act - From the author of Punch! and H3
Sensual Phrase - A fashionable, romantic manga - but somewhat mature.

Ah. Old thread. But okay, since I never posted in it.

1. Chobits. My favorite manga to date. Has been my favorite manga for a couple of years now. Read it. Now.

2. Azumanga Daioh. I remember reading it on the train on the way to school two-ish years back and I was trying so hard not to burst out laughing. Everybody would have thought I was a freak. The anime was pretty awesome too.

3. Fruits Basket. Got my volume 17 today~ I hear it is epic. I haven't seen past episode 2 of the anime, though, so I can't judge that.

4. Kamichama Karin. Koge-Donbo works WIN. Instantaneously. I love it to death. Yes, it's mahou shoujo, but it's great. It really is.

- MeruPuri (I actually don't own this. A manga-loving girl in one of my classes in the 12th grade loaned it to me. I didn't think it'd be too special, but I enjoyed it. It's by the Vampire Knight mangaka, which seems to be popular now, though I've never read it.)

I'm actually in the process of reading the Sailormoon manga. I've never read more than bits and pieces of it before. Wow, the manga R season is, like, 5 times better than the anime. I'm currently up to the Infinity/Mugen (Sailormoon S) arc, and it's just winning. S was my favorite season in the anime. I actually didn't think the first arc (Classic) of the manga was too special, though.

It's in the smut category often. I've read it xD I actually like Shinjo Mayu's works, though it really depends how mature you are and what your intentions are when you read her manga.

Her manga actually have good plots.

FullMetal Alchemist. It's so deep and dark. surprisingly, it's the one anime i never get tired of. the manga is so sad..on a whole new level than the show in my opinion.

Trinity Blood is my all time favorite series, and I'm disappointed that it hasn't been mentioned yet. It's so gorgeous, and so much fun to read. It's much funnier than the anime, and goes more in depth with the characters (actually, if you really want more depth with the characters, read the novels, which are also awesome). My poor friends have to put up with me ranting about the gorgeousness of Trinity Blood all the time. I also can't believe only one other person has mentioned FMA. I need to mooch more volumes off my friend so I can find out about the homunculi.
