I learned about this site when I went to Otakon, so I decided to get into voice acting! Though I still have to get a microphone. ^^;

Welcome to the site! Although we recommend the USB Logitech you can get started with a cheeper microphone ( actually you can get some pretty good ones in video games stores)

Hmmm was the mic a usb? Or are you plugging it straight into your PC or mac? With some mics you need to run it through a simple fader box to amplify the signal. I don't think you need to bother with a usb one though as their already powered from the mother board.
How expensive was it? It could be phantom powered but I doubt it, only mad ass pro mics tend to be. Oh sorry I'm forgetting my manners, hello!
