I didn't see another topic on this yet, amazingly, but if there is one feel free to close.

An influential and great author left us last night. :(

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Kurt Vonnegut, whose absurdist visions and cynical outlook infused such books as "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat's Cradle," has died. He was 84.

Vonnegut died at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital at 9:45 p.m. ET Wednesday, said his wife, photographer Jill Krementz.

Vonnegut had been hospitalized for several weeks after suffering brain injuries following a fall at his East Side Manhattan home.

"Kurt was a loving, funny husband who always made me laugh," Krementz said. "He was a wonderful father who was proud and supportive of his children."

Vonnegut's novels and short stories, which blended humor, bitterness, profundity and a devout humanity, attracted a wide audience and made him a key figure in 20th-century American literature.

"He was a man who combined a wicked sense of humor and sort of steady moral compass, who was always sort of looking at the big picture of the things that were most important," Joel Bleifuss, editor of the liberal magazine In These Times, told The Associated Press....

Sad to say, I probably haven't read nearly enough by this guy. A shame.

He leaves behind only the simplest of messages, which he himself penned - you've got to be kind.

Wow. I had to read a book by him for school just before it closed. That really is a shock!

Ah man my brother's going to be really bummed (though he's probably heard already). He's a huge fan of his and just recently lent me his copy of Slaughterhouse-five to read.

Yes, it was terrible news. I really liked "SlaughterHouse V" particularily, it was one of the books I was glad I was forced to read in school.

Aw, I didn't know he had died :( I wrote an essay over "Harrison Bergeron" and saw the play version of Slaughterhouse 5 (didn't like it at all but I LOVE Harrison Bergeron) D: He shall be missed.

If any of you love Kurt Vonnegut's writing, I suggest reading Timequake. It's one of his earliest works, but it has the most heart. Definitely worth reading. Cat's Cradle is my personal favorite though.
