Lyrics That Mae You Want To Cry!

Okay, admit it. There are some really, really nice songs that just make you feel so sad. Maybe it's just the lyrics itself, or maybe it's the clip that goes with them (if it's an anime/game song)

Anyway, what do YOU think are the saddest songs? Post the name, where it's from and the lyrics of them here.

I think the saddest song is:

Tell me What The Rain Knows
From Wolf's Rain

Tell me what the rain knows
Oh are these the tears of ages?
Wash away that wolf's way
Leave no trace of the day

Tell me what the rain knows
Oh is this the flood of fortune?
That pours itself upon me?
See how I drown in this sea?

Hark! hear the howl that eats the moon alive
Your fur is on fire (Your love is on fire)
The smoke dies the whole sky raven black
And the world upon your back will crack

Where will you go?
Now you've no home

Let the rain wash away your last days

The saddest song I've heard is "There Were Roses", which is an Irish tune. I don't know why, but I find it very sad... for lack of a better term.

My song for you this evening, it's not to make you sad
Nor for adding to the sorrows of this troubled northern land
But lately I've been thinking and it just won't leave my mind
I'll tell you of two friends one time who were both good friends of mine

Allan Bell from Banagh, he lived just across the fields
A great man for the music and the dancing and the reels
O'Malley came from South Armagh to court young Alice fair
And we'd often meet on the Ryan Road and the laughter filled the air

There were roses, roses
There were roses
And the tears of the people
Ran together

Though Allan, he was Protestant, and Sean was Catholic born
It never made a difference for the friends, it was strong
And sometimes in the evening when we heard the sound of drums
We said, "It won't divide us. We always will be one''

For the ground our fathers plowed in, the soil, it is the same
And the places where we say our prayers have just got different names
We talked about the friends who died, and we hoped there'd be no more
It's little then we realized the tragedy in store

It was on a Sunday morning when the awful news came round
Another killing has been done just outside Newry Town
We knew that Allan danced up there, we knew he liked the band
When we heard that he was dead we just could not understand

We gathered at the graveside on that cold and rainy day
And the minster he closed his eyes and prayed for no revenge
All of us who knew him from along the Ryan Road
We bowed our heads and said a prayer for the resting of his soul

Now fear, it filled the countryside, there was fear in every home
When a car of death came prowling round the lonely Ryan Road
A Catholic would be killed tonight to even up the score
"Oh, Christ! It's young O'Malley that they've taken from the door''

"Allan was my friend,'' he cried, he begged them with his fear
But centuries of hatred have ears that cannot hear
An eye for an eye was all that filled their minds
And another eye for another eye till everyone is blind

So my song for you this evening, it's not to make you sad
Nor for adding to the sorrows of our troubled northern land
But lately I've been thinking and it just won't leave my mind
I'll tell you of two friends one time who were both good friends of mine

I don't know where the moral is or where this song should end,
But I wondered just how many wars are fought between good friends
And those who give the orders are not the ones to die
It's Bell and O'Malley and the likes of you and I

There were roses, roses
There were roses

Agh, music affects me like nothing else. The silliest things too when I'm in the mood. Even when I was really little I'd cry at a couple songs and have absolutely no idea why, I felt like I was doing something wrong! Years on now, with the added bonus of jolly old emotional attachments, well...

The saddest song I've heard is "There Were Roses", which is an Irish tune
I've definitely seen/read this before, but I don't think I've ever heard it. The words themselves are certainly very sad...

OK, as for my sad song...? Well, it's not even a very "sad" song if you look at the lyrics, but actually this is the sort of song that gets to me the most; the ones about love and friendship and parting (makes me miss my friends, one in particular... or things like Crash and Burn maybe just make me feel lonely cos no one says those things to me ^.^) But it certainly can make me cry, and has done for years since I don't know when or why :) Anyway, it's Forever Young. From the Care Bears movie :) ...It's a good song!!!!

Hello old friend
It's good to be with you
Time is standing still
Our love... shines true and bright,
it always will.

My wishing star,
Has guided all you do.
My empty heart you fill,
We still feel... forever young.

Looking back, we're just the same,
As we were when we began,
This love will keep protecting us,
Reach for me and I'll take your hand.

When we're apart,
Just close your eyes,
And you'll see me waiting there.
You can always count on me,
I will always care.

My special friend,
Inside my heart you stay,
You'll be with me until,
The sun... shines through the night,
It never will.
My little star,
You'll never fade away,
The hands of time are still...
And we'll be,
Forever young.
Step up and take my hand,
One touch... and we'll be friends,
Forever.

Hello old friend,
It's good to see you too,
Time is standing still,
For we'll be... forever young.

Hello to you,
It's nice to see your smile,
Step up and take my hand,
One touch and we'll be friends... forever.

That song with the boy who wants to buy the shoes around Christmas time for his dying mother... That's the only song that really seems to come to mind. I never get teary for anything really, but this definitely puts a lump in the throat... Anyone who's heard it just has to admit it's sad... and if not, well, I don't get you, hehe. >>;;

Blue from Cowboy Bebop makes me think of you-know-who's death on the show. (And omg, if you don't know who, shame.)
...But that's really it. ...Because I don't remember any of the songs played at my grandmother's funeral.

Thish song has aaaaaaalways made me cry. All my friends hate it 'cause I sing it all the time, lol! ^^ *Starts crying*

See the tree, how big it's grown but friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad, the first day that she planted, it, was just a twig
Then the first snow came and she ran out to brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all excited, slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried
She was always young at heart, kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her
When I came in from workin' late 'cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late, late show

And honey, I miss you and I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad but what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me and hugged my neck
I came home unexpectedly and caught her cryin' needlessly
In the middle of a day
And it was in the early Spring when flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away

And honey, I miss you and I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could

One day while I was not at home while she was there and all alone
The angels came
Now all I have is memories of Honey and I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage where Honey lived and Honey played
And love grew up
And a small cloud passes overhead and cries down on the flower bed
That Honey loved

And see the tree how big it's grown but friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
And I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig

Under a Veil (of black lace), by Anathema. You probably haven't heard of them. I don't know of anybody personally who has. Here's the lyrics for those of you who don't know them.

With loving passion, oh your radiance
A serenade I cry
Your silk lined coffin the lachrymatory
To hold a mourner's tears

Ethereal splendour
Pale skin and down cast eyes
Scent of paradise
Like her, forever unknown

Through tear stained eyes
My view is growing weaker
Please help my giref be vanquished
Thy bed of roses, funeral drapery
Impale me on your thorns

Celestial splendour
Pale skin and down cast eyes
Farewell autumn kisses
Like her, forever unknown

I loved her ... but now she's gone
(It's so hard to face)
Overcoming ... tender reckoning

If I too depart the earth
In harmony to (our) heaven we'll elope

Heavenly grace which to ease
The virgin's tears

Any ballad by X-Japan really makes me cry...one of my favorites is Crucify My Love

Crucify my love
If my love is blind
Crucify my love
If it sets me free
Never know Never trust
"That love should see a color"
Crucify my love
If it should be that way

Swing the heartache
Feel it inside out
When the wind cries
I'll say good-by
Tried to learn Tried to find
To reach out for eternity
Where's the answer
Is this forever

Like a river flowing to the sea
You'll be miles away, and Iwill know
I know I can deal with the pain
No reason to cry

Crucify my love
If my love is blind
Crucify my love
If it sets me free
Never know Never trust
"That love should see a color"
Crucify my love
If it should be that way

'Til the loneliness shadows the sky
I'll be sailing down and I will know
I know I can clear clouds away
Oh Is it a crime to love

Swing the heartache
Feel it inside out
When the wind cries
I'll say good-by
Tried to learn Tried to find
To reach out for eternity
Where's the answer
Is this forever

If my love is blind
Crucify my love
If it sets me free
Never know Never trust
"That love should see a color"
Crucify my love
If it should be that way

This on ALWAYS gets me. I watched it as an anime music video with a clip of Spike, Julia, and Vicious on it...ever since, i start bawling if I hear it.

Dust In The Wind
By Kansas

I close my eyes
Only for a moment and the moment's gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity

Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old songs
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground
Though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

Now
Don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind (All we are is dust in the wind)

Dust in the wind
(Everything is dust in the wind) everything is dust in the wind

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This one's another sad one that comes to mind easy:

Only Hope
By Mandy Moore

There's a song that's inside of my soul
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again
I'm awake in the infinate cold
But you sing to me over and over and over again

So I lay my head back down
And I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours
I know now
You're my only hope

Sing to me the song of the stars
Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again
When it feels like my dreams are so far
Sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again

So i lay my head back down
And I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours
I know now
You're my only hope

I give you my destiny
I'm giving you all of me
I want your symphony
Singing in all that I am
At the top of my lungs
I'm giving it back

So i lay my head back down
And I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours
I know now
You're my only hope

-------------------

Lastly, does this one get to anyone?

Butterfly
From Cowboy Bebop

You're a love song
Only half-way sung
You're the knot that comes undone
You're the daylight
Dressed as darkest night
The flight of a stringless kite

The very vision
The mirage man
You're air in the palm of my hand
You're like catching
The day's sunset
Or a rain that's never wet

You're a butterfly in the mind
You're a butterfly before my eyes
You're a butterfly, a trick of time

Who leaves before he arrives

I'm such a crybaby when it comes to songs.

The song "I Will Be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman.. I cried when I heard that the first time. It's not sad though, it's just sweet. But I will cry on just about anything emotional. o_O I mean ANYTHING. LOL

Anyway, it's Forever Young. From the Care Bears movie :) ...It's a good song!!!!

CARE BEARS! ... That's a good song. Good times.

Anyway, a sad song that I can think of is "I Will Wait For You," sung by various people. The saddest version I've heard is by Connie Francis, specifically in the Jurassic Bark episode of Futurama. God, that song still makes me cry.

If it takes forever
I will wait for you
For a thousand summers
I will wait for you

Till you're back beside
Till I'm holding you
Till I hear you sigh
Hear in my arms

Anywhere you wander
Anywhere you go
Every day remember
How I love you so

In your heart believe
What in my heart I know
That forevermore
I'll wait for you

The clock will tick away the hours one by one
And then the time will come when all the waiting's done
The time when you return and find me here, and run
straight into my waiting arms

If it takes forever
I will wait for you
For a thousand summers
I will wait for you

Till you're back beside me
Till I'm touching you
Till I hear you sigh
Here in my arms

Whyyy didn't they clone the dog...

"Wind" from Naruto.
Seriously... OMFG. When you watch the opening with the song you can't help but feel sad.

Cultivate your hunger before you idealize.
Motivate your anger to make them all realize.
Climbing the mountain, never coming down.
Break into the contents, never falling down.

My knee is still shaking, like I was twelve,
Sneaking out of the classroom, by the back door.
A man railed at me twice though, but I didn't care.
Waiting is wasting for people like me.

Don't try to live so wise.
Don't cry 'cause you're so right.
Don't dry with fakes or fears,
'Cause you will hate yourself in the end.

(Repeats)

(TV version doesn't have the rest of the song after that)

You say, "Dreams are dreams.
"I ain't gonna play the fool anymore."
You say, "'Cause I still got my soul."

Take your time, baby, your blood needs slowing down.
Breach your soul to reach yourself before you gloom.
Reflection of fear makes shadows of nothing, shadows of nothing.

You still are blind, if you see a winding road,
'Cause there's always a straight way to the point you see.

Don't try to live so wise.
Don't cry 'cause you're so right.
Don't dry with fakes or fears,
'Cause you will hate yourself in the end.

Aw, Jesta! That song isn't supposed to be sad. ._. I absolutely love that song, though. >D

Mm.. a song that [used to] make me cry was Beautiful Alone (from Weiß Kreuz. Yeah, I was obsessed, I know. :P), but the translation is just so sad.. even if some of the lyrics don't make much sense:
To every life, there's always an end,
But I close my eyes, I still see your face; beautiful...
And I throw a rose as they now lower you down
But I still believe I'll see you again
I wait for the day that I can once more hold you tight
Until then, I can't cry this pain away
Until then, memories are all I have...

How I long for one more kiss, just to hold you once again
How I long to hear you say "our love's eternal, never will I leave from by
your side..."

I go my way, I journey on, now 'til forever
With the memory of our last kiss to keep me going
And though I am alone again, I shed not a tear
How beautiful is my loneliness, how great is my pain...

As night skies arrive, the heartache begins
For in every dream, the image of you lingers still
So I walk alone, sleepless, guided by the moon
I know I'll give to eternal sleep,
And when that day comes, I'll never again let you go
I'll pretend that I'm not about to cry
I'll pretend that these tears are only rain

As I lie awake at night, listening to this quiet rain
As I bow my head in prayer, my wish is that this burning emptiness inside
would heal...

It's just so sad. e.e

A few other songs that I consider to be really sad are.. Gackt's "Saikai ~ Story" - though, it's more the video and the meaning of the song than anything. "Where you are" by Jessica Simpson and Nick ..however you spell his last name, among others..

The song "I Will Be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman

Chapman's my last name. O_o Anyways... songs.. umm... I've never really cried from a song but some do make me feel all cold and sad inside.

My Immortal by Evanescence
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

And sad BGMs for anime. ^^;; Yeah... But there's a song that makes me sad cuz I listened to it (I was a very wittle girl =3) the day before my dog Nick died and I can't remember the name. Poor Nick... I never really paid attention to him and then he died. ;-;

This is going to sound really stupid, but here's another one that gets me.

Walking Man's Road
From The Last unicorn

Horizon rising up to meet the purple dawn
Dust demon screaming, bring an eagle to lead me on
For in my heart I carry such a heavy load
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road, walking Man's road

I'm hungry, weary, but I cannot lay me down
The rain comes, dreary, but there's no shelter I have found
It will be a long time till I find my abode
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road

Moon rising, disguising lonely streets in gay displays
The stars fade, the night shade falls and makes the world afraid
It waits in silence for the sky to explode
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road, walking Man's road
Walking Man's road, walking Man's road, walking Man's road...

This is the one song that I find to be very, very sad... just everything
about it. I like the turn around it has at the end, though... although it's
still sad...

白い月/White Moon
Sung by Koyasu Takehito... from Shaman King
Quick and probably inaccurate translation by me.

闇の中に月は白く 時を止めて眠るかのように
長い夜も息をひそめ遠く光る まるで君の夢

Inside the darkness the moon is white. Does time stop as it does in sleep?
Even in a drawn out night I quiet my breath to the distant light that is
your dream.

ああ、 壊れかけた この胸には 何もかもが偽りに見えた
記憶だけをたぐり寄せて ひとつひとつつなぐたび

Aa, I couldn't see a single deception inside this broken heart.
It's only my memory that I draw in, that one, that one continuous journey.

二度とあの日は戻らない 君にはもう逢えない
思い知らされ 孤独の海で愚かすぎる幻惑に呑まれた
愛だと信じて

I can't return to that day twice and I can't see you ever again.
Knowing that it's beyond foolish to blindly drink from the sea of solitude
I believe in love.

ああ、 闇の中を僕は歩く 時を止めて眠るかのように
長い夜も息をひそめ 君は僕を待つだろう

Aa, inside the darkness I walk. Does time stop as it does in sleep?
Even in a drawn out night I quiet my breath, you're waiting for me, right?

そしてあの日に戻れると 二人は微笑みあうと
ただそれだけに 救われたくて 誰のために命はあるのかに
気付けないまま

And by returning to that day, the two of us would smile together
But that alone cannot save me. Since it's this way I've wondered
Who I should live for.

あの日には戻れない それでも胸にはいつも
空にはいつも 輝きながら 誰のために命はあるのかを
君は白い月

I can't return to that day, but my heart is always shining
Along with the sky. It's the you that is the white moon
Who I should live for.

mononoke-tachi dake mononoke-tachi dake

English Version (How I think it goes anyway)
In the moonlight I found your heart
Quiver like a bow string's pulse
In the moon's pale light, you looked at me
Nobody knows your heart
when the sun has gone, I see you
Beautiful and haunting but cold
Like the blade of a knife
So sharp, so sweet
Nobody knows your heart
All of your sorrow, grief and pain
locked away in the forest of the night
Your secret heart belongs to the world
Of the things that sigh in the dark
Oh the things that cry in the dark

;_; This song is kinda the whole thing that got me sort of afraid of the moon. There's an eerie yet beautiful quality to it that just brings me to tears.

I'm not the type to cry at stuff, but some songs have really, really sad lyrics to me.

4 AM
Our Lady Peace

I walked around my good intentions
And found that there were none.
I blame my father for the wasted years,
We hardly talked.
I never thought I would forget this hate,
Then a phone call made me realize
I'm wrong.

If I don't make it know that
I've loved you all along.
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded.
And I hope God I figure out
What's wrong.

I walked around my room
Not thinking,
Just sinking in this box.
I blame myself for being too much
Like somebody else.
I never thought I would just
Bend this way,
Then a phone call made me realize
I'm wrong.

And if I don't make it know that
I've loved you all along.
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded.
And I hope God I figure out
What's wrong.

I always found that sad. I remember once someone I know said they didn't really like it because it was a love song, but me and someone else immediately corrected them saying that just because they heard the chorus, not the judge the song: that's it really sad about his dad dying.

And maybe you'll find me weird, but Suteki da Ne from Final Fantasy X is possibly the saddest song I've ever heard, lol. And then they played it right after that sad ending!!

Suteki da Ne
Rikki

kaze ga yoseta kotoba ni

OMG! I just remembered another kinda sad song, so I'll add that one too ^^

Lightning Crashes
Live

Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door

Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now, to the baby down the hall

Oh now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it

Lightning crashes a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris
Presents the circle and puts the glory out to hide, hide

Oh now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it
Oh now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it

Oh boy - I admit to being a crybaby. Let's see... the ones that get me the most:

Runaway
The Corrs

Say it's true
There's nothing like me and you
I'm not alone
Tell me you feel it too

And I would run away
I would run away, yeah yeah
I would run away
I would run away with you

Because I, have fallen in love with you
No, never, I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you

Close the door
Lay down upon the floor
And by candlelight
Make love to me through the night

Cause I have run away
I have run away, yeah yeah
I have run away, run away, run away
I have run away with you

Because I, have fallen in love with you
No, never, I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you

And I would run away
I would run away, yeah yeah
I would run away
I would run away with you

Because I, have fallen in love with you
No, never, I'm never gonna stop
Falling in love with you

With you, my love
With you

Runaway yeah, runaway yeah
runaway, runaway, runaway, runaway
runaway yeah, runaway yeah, runaway, runaway, runaway yeah...
with... you...

Laava Wherever You Are
Innosense

When I feel blue, I think of you, cause you're true,
Wherever you are.
Near or far, you still are my shining star.
Sometimes it's mad, things get bad, and I'm sad,
Wherever you are,
there is light, by my side I feel alright.

Because our love is big, bigger then the two of us.
And words can not describe, how I miss you so much.

I feel love in your arms, and I feel love when im with you.
I feel love in your eyes, wherever you may be.

You make me high; I can fly, touch the sky,
Wherever you are.
I feel free in ecstasy, just you and me.
You save my day, pave the way, and you stay,
Wherever you are.
In my heart from the start we'll never part.

Because our love is big, bigger then the two of us.
And words can not describe, how I miss you so much.

I feel love in your arms (in your arms), and I feel love when I'm with you.
I feel love in your eyes, wherever you may be (wherever you may be)
(Wherever you are...)
(I feel love…)

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la…

(Wherever you are…)

Your Face
Mandy Moore

Your face
I'm still not over your face
Headlights break through the rain
Over london's winter nights
I came all the way here tonight
To look in your eyes
I came all the way here tonight - just to see you

Your face
Hold me over your face
It wipes away the rain
With a hundred summer skies

And everytime I talk to you
It's like I'm alright
And everytime I talk to you
I get a little closer to life

'Cause you are the face that heaven showed me
When I needed someone
Someone to love
And say you'll show me
The quiet kind of love behind your face

Your face let me show the world your face
All the stars and suns above are jealous in its light
You steal the sky away from them
And bring it to sight
Yeah, you steal the sky away from them
And bring it to life

You are the face that heaven showed me
When I needed someone
Someone to love
And say you will show me
The quiet kind of love behind your face

Those are just a few. x.x;;;

Sad songs dont even have to have lyrics. I think one of the saddest songs I have ever heard is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. Try to find it online, it is almost heartbreaking.

since people also seem to be putting up sad anime lyrics I am going to vote for "Dearest" from Inuyasha (since all of the Cowboy Bebop songs were alread covered.) Here are some of the lyrics translated into english:

It would be nice if we could put away and throw out
everything except what really mattered, but
reality is just cruel.
In such times,
I see you laughing
whenever I close my eyes.
Until the day I reach eternal sleep,
that smiling face will
have to stay with me without fail.
People are all sad, so
they go and forget, but--
For that which I should love,
For that which gives me love, I will do what I can.
Back then, when we met,
it was all awkward.
We went the long way, didn't we?
We got hurt, didn't we?
Until the day I reach eternal sleep,
that smiling face will
have to stay with me without fail.

It is almost kind of hopeful, but the music makes it sad.

The saddest song I can think of right now is The Luckiest, by Ben Folds. Sad in a happy way. I can't explain it. Second place goes to War On Drugs, by Barenaked Ladies, which I'm actually thinking about recording.

5 am friday morning
thursday night far from sleep
i'm still up and driving
can't go home obviously
so i'll just change direction
cause they'll soon know where i live
and i wanna live
got a full tank and some chips

it was me and a gun
and a man on my back
and i sang holy holy
as he buttoned down his pants

you can laugh
it's kinda funny
the things you think
at times like these
like "i haven't seen barbados
so i must get out of this"

yes i wore a slinky red thing
does that mean i should spread
for you your friends
your father mr. ed

me and a gun
and a man on my back
but i haven't seen barbados
so i must get out of this

and i know what this means
me and jesus a few years back
used to hang and he said "it's your choice babe
just remember
i don't think you'll be back
in 3 days time so you choose well"
tell me whats right
is it my right to be on my stomach
of fred's seville

it was me and a gun
and a man on my back
but i haven't seen barbados
so i must get out of this

and do you know carolina
where the biscuits are soft and sweet
these things go through your head
when there's a man on your back
you're pushed flat on your stomach
it's not a classic cadillac

me and a gun
and a man on my back
but i haven't see barbados
so i must get out of this
i haven't seen barbados
so i must get out of this

Tori is my favorite singer and one of my biggest obsessions, because she's covered such a wide range of emotions for me. In "Winter", this part always made me think of my parents:

when you gonna make up your mind
when you gonna love you as much as i do
when you gonna make up your mind
cause things are gonna change so fast
all the white horses have gone ahead
i tell you that i'll always want you near
you say that things change my dear

But "Me and a Gun" is probably the most emotional song for me EVER.

Yeah - she, Kate Bush and Sarah Slean make up *the* powerhouse triumvirate of emotional singing. (But that seems to be a widespread opinion around here, I've noticed...)

I dunno about you guys, but James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" always gets to me. :-p

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

woh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

I’ve been working my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it’ll turn your head around
Well, there’s hours of time on the telephone line
To talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.

woh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain

How about Aimee Mann's 'Wise Up'? - well, I guess you'd have to have seen 'Magnolia' and liked the movie to feel that way. But that's one haunting piano.

Sad songs? Good GOD there's too many to mention . . . I cry at everything X.x

Personally, however, I think the saddest song ever is "Evaporated" by Ben Folds Five. You have to hear the expression in his voice, but even the lyrics convey just how lonely and regretful and sad this song is.

Here I stand, sad and free
I can't cry, I can't see
What I've done
God, what have I done?

Also, "I Know" by Sarah Slean always gets me. Just the SOUND of it alone is so sad, but the lyrics . . . ngggnh.

Jesus, I thought we had an understanding
The fact that you can buy a woman
Makes me want to die

And any song about divorce gets me, because I'm Bitter Child Of Divorce #495b. Yes, P!nk's "Family Portrait" makes me cry. I am so cool.

There is really only ONE song that makes me cry nearly EVERY time I hear it. And that song is, "For Good" from the musical Wicked. It's only REALLY sad if you know the story behind the song.
It's the song two best friends sing to eachother after they finally realise after all the have gone through since they first met, they have always been the best of friends. But now Elphaba knows she is about to die and Glinda, on the other hand, has no idea what is about to happent...
--------------
Elphaba:

I'm limited
Just look at me
I'm limited
And just look at you, you can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
For both of us
Now it's up to you

Glinda:

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led to those
Who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know it I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you

Like a comet pulled from orbit,
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Half way through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But, because I knew you...
I have been changed
For good...
Elphaba:

It well may be,
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made from what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our story ends
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend

Like a ship blown from it's mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed drop by a sky bird
in a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But, because I knew you...

Glinda:

Because I knew you...

Both:

I have been changed
For good...

Elphaba:

And just to clear the air
I ask forgivness for the things I've done
You blame be for

Glinda:

But then I guess, we know there's blame to share

Both:

And none of it seems to matter anymore!

Glinda: Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun...
Elphaba: Like a ship blown from it's mooring by a wind off the sea

Glinda: Like a steam that meets a boulder halfway through the wood
Elphaba: Like a sea drop by a bird in the wood

Both:

Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better

Glinda:

And, because I knew you

Elphaba:

Because I knew you

Both:

Because I knew you
I have been changed...

For good

Also, her line

gotta fly
gotta say goodbye
leave them before they leave me

from 'Me, I'm a thief' seems very sad somehow. What I love about Slean is that she has an ability to develop protagonists with personalities through her songs, and this song, and that line in particular, tells of a person who is extremely afraid of trust and commitments.

Ahem, so, anyway...

I won't go into lyrics, but sad songs for me would be...

Selena -- Dreaming of You (I always think of the movie when I hear it)
Muse -- Blackout (Song about growing old with regrets)
Christina Aguilera -- Beautiful (The video's really touching with all the different types of people -- anorexic girl, fat girl, goth boy, drag queen, etc)
Millencolin -- The Ballad (Depressing ballad about a boy who has no friends and is the high school scapegoat)
Dashboard Confessional -- This Bitter Pill (The last part of the song is touching, to me anyway ^_^ My friends hate that part tho)
Vitamin C -- Friends Forever (Depressing song about graduating high school)
Our Lady Peace -- 4 am (Sad song about hating your father and then after he's dead missing him)
Sarah McLachlan -- Angel (Sad song about death (aren't all sad songs about that? :P))
Daniel Bedingfield -- If You're Not The One (Touching song about loving a person)
Rufus Wainwright -- Pretty Things (Not really sad but the melody is kind of depressing, and I took it as a song about being gay, cuz he says "So what if I like pretty things?" meaning "So what if I'm gay?", that's just how I took it tho)
Yellowcard -- Believe (Sad tribute to the heroes of 9/11)

I could think of a ton more but I'ma leave it at that. ^_^

Sarah Slean rocks socks; probably tied with Billy Joel for my second favorite artist.

Akky: you just had to pop Vitamin C in here, didn't you?

Oh, and I know she's not very well known, but Pepper McGowan's music is also very emotional. "Reba" makes me so sad, but I also get kinda wistful at "Burn" and "Whore".

I think "Two Beds and a Coffee Machine" by Savage Garden is pretty sad

And she takes another step
slowly she opens the door
check that he is sleeping
pick up all the broken glass
and furniture on the floor
been up half the night screaming
now its time to get away
pack up the kids in the car
another bruise to try and hide
another alibi to write

Another ditch in the road
you keep moving
another stop sign
you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
wonder how I ever made it through

And there are children to think of
baby's asleep in the back seat
wonder how they'll ever make it through this living nightmare
but the mind is an amazing thing
full of candy dreams and new toys
and another cheap hotel
two beds and a coffee machine
but there are groceries to buy
and she knows shell have to go home

Another ditch in the road
you keep moving
another stop sign
you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
wonder how I ever made it through

Another bruise to try and hide
another alibi to write
another lonely highway in the black of night
but there's hope in the darkness
you know you're gonna make it

Another ditch in the road
you keep moving
another stop sign
you keep moving on
and the years go by so fast
silent fortress built to last
wonder how I ever made it...

Although the tune itself is quite happy, being a big Card Captor Sakura fan I find Touya's song, "Kimi ga Ita Scene" quite sad.. I think it's about how much he cared for Kaho when she left him, and how he has to look foward to the love she claimed he would have (Yukito).

English lyrics:

Even though I still don't understand the meaning of "eternity,"
something starts anew when it becomes memories.
Even now, I dream about you at times,
in the nights full of peaceful stars.

You turned towards me and were about to say something,
and that shadow is going to disappear in the morning light.
I couldn't even say, "I want to stay with you forever,"
but to only wave in silence, at that time

Even though my heart hurts from the wound of farewell,
I now want to believe in a new encounter.
Seasons come and go, and the sky that reflects in my eyes
could be seen brighter than yesterday.

From the scene with you, taking a step forward,
I start to walk, without looking back anymore.
The sigh after you turned your back on me,
is it all right to make that a memory of our time spent together as well?
Roads lead into the future, however far,
the warm winds will be blowing in there.

Even though I still don't understand the meaning of "eternity,"
something starts anew when it becomes memories.
Even though my heart hurts from the wound of farewell,
I now want to believe in a new encounter.

Also, "Yoru no Uta" which Tomoyo sings is also incredibly sad but sweet.

English lyrics:

In the night sky, they twinkle
The far stars of gold
The same color as the small bird
that looked up in my dream last night

In the sleepless night,
I sing this song alone
Together with the blowing wind,
I fly riding on my thoughts

In the night sky, it sparkles
The distant moon of silver
The same color as the wild rose
that was blooming in my dream last night

In the gentle night,
I sing this song alone
Let me sing with you tomorrow
Riding the wings of dreams

In the gentle night,
I sing this song alone
Let me sing with you tomorrow
Riding the wings of dreams

"Pure Heart" to the tune of Aeris' theme from FFX also makes me very sad xx; Mostly because the singer annoys me XD But it also reminds me of Aeris' death.

English Lyrics:

Straight on this long, continuing road
There is surely something to believe in

Like a traveler in the midst of the wind
I have my eyes on the northern sky

The passionate feelings that were beginning to vanish
Once again sway in radiance in my chest

I don't want the tears to spill
As so not to lose to my weaker self

In eyes holding only an unadorned spirit
There are great, unseen wings

I open my arms while singing
To embrace the perpetuity of time
To be tied to life

Straight on this long, continuing road
There is surely something to believe in

And, finally, The Dream Within by Lara Fabian from Final Fantasy: Spirit Within:

Free the dream within
The stars are crying a tear
A sigh escapes from heaven
And the world's end

Breathe the dream within
The mystifying
We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Look beyond where hearts can see
Dream in peace
Trust, love, believe

We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Free the dream within
The voices calling, a song
A prayer from deep inside you
To guide you

Be the dream within
The light is shining
A flame on the wind
Salvation begins

Look beyond where hearts can see
Dream in peace
Trust, love, believe

We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Free the dream within
The stars are crying a tear
A sigh escapes from heaven
And the world's end

EDIT: I've just remembered two more >< Both Maaya Sakamoto songs..

Gravity

been a long road to follow
been there and gone tomorrow
without saying goodbye to yesterday
are the memories I hold still valid?
or have the tears deluded them?
maybe this time tomorrow
the rain will cease to follow
and the mist will fade into one more today
something somewhere out there keeps calling
am I going home?
will I hear someone singing solace to the silent moon?
zero gravity what's it like?
am I alone?
is somebody there beyond these heavy aching feet
still the road keeps on telling me to go on
something is pulling me
I feel the gravity of it all

Tell Me What The Rain Knows

Tell me what the rain knows
O are these the Tears of Ages
That wash away the Wolf's Way
And leave not a trace of the day?

Tell me what the rain knows
O is this the flood of fortune
That pours itself upon me?
O see how I drown in this sea

Hark, hear the howl that eats the moon alive
Your fur is on fire
The smoke turns the whole sky raven black
And the world upon your back will crack

Where will you go
Now you've no home?

Let the rain wash away your last days

Here's a song that always, always makes me cry everytime I here it. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the song in a way, but I just end up in tears. One of my favourite bands (a folk band called "Show of Hands") sing it, and once I was sitting near the front at one of their gigs. One of them saw me in floods of tears, and got all concerned. Was a bit embarrassing. Quite of few of the songs they do make feel tearful, folks songs tend to be a bit like that.

CROW ON THE CRADLE
by Jackson Browne (Best sung by Show of Hands)

The sheep's in the meadow
The cow's in the corn
Now is the time for a child to be born
He'll laugh at the moon
And cry for the sun
And if it's a boy he'll carry a gun
Sang the crow on the cradle

And if it should be that this baby's a girl
Never you mind if her hair doesn't curl
With rings on her fingers
And bells on her toes
And a bomber above her wherever she goes
Sang the crow on the cradle

The crow on the cradle
The black and the white
Somebody's baby is born for a fight
The crow on the cradle
The white and the black
Somebody's baby is not coming back
Sang the crow on the cradle

Your mother and father will sweat and they'll slave
To build you a coffin and dig you a grave
Hush-a-bye little one, never you weep
For we've got a toy that can put you to sleep
Sang the crow on the cradle

Bring me my gun, and I'll shoot that bird dead
That's what your mother and father once said
The crow on the cradle, what can we do
Ah, this is a thing that I'll leave up to you
Sang the crow on the cradle
Sang the crow on the cradle

Father once said
A crow on the cradle what can we do
This is the thing I must leave up to you
Sang the crow on the cradle

I also think Placebo's "My Sweet Prince" has rather sad lyrics but I don't cry to that one.

When it comes to James Taylor, "Copperline", "Carolina", and "Sweet Baby James" are my favorites. <3

That lonesome road is also really good and really sad.

Hmm....Sad songs, sad songs.... Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop come to mind, but both of those are instrumentals. I'd have to say... Well, it's late here and this has been stuck in my head for a while

Martina Mcbride's 'Concrete Angel' (and I'm not usually one to go for country, but this song makes me sad)

She walks to school with a lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back;
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday,
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace;
oh

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask,
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask;
Bearing the burdon of a secret storm,
Sometimes she wishes she was never born;

Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above;
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

Concrete Angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night,
The neighbors hear but they turn out the lights;
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate,
When morning comes it will be too late.

Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above;
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

Concrete Angel

A statue stands in a shaded place,
An angel girl with an upturned face;
Her name is written on a polished rock,
A broken heart that the world forgot.

Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above;
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

Concrete Angel

Rakuen from Trigun makes me sad, too. XD But for different reasons.

Eugh...

The Fate of Awakening Love from Inuyasha gets me.

It's only an instrumental of course, with those haunting voices going on, but the thing is, I had it on a CD when I was leaving somebody behind...and fool that I am, as I got back onto the road, it started playing. And so now...now it haunts me. Sometimes I can't even watch Inuyasha because of it. Heh.

It doesn't make me cry exactly but I just think it's really quite sad and touching. I ain't going down by Shania Twain.

I'm gonna hold on--
'cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I'm wrong--I ain't goin' down

I had a baby at fifteen--
daddy never did forgive me
I never heard from the guy again
I had to drop outta high school--
everybody treated me so cruel
But I didn't give in and giver her away

[Repeat Chorus]

Her smile got me through the day--
and every night I'd pray
I could give her enough
At night I'd lie awake and cry--
hopin' we'd get by
'Cause you can't live on love

I worked night and day to keep us goin'
Through the sweat and tears
without her knowin'
It was worth it just to watch her grow
Oh, oh, at least I was able to hold her
Whenever she needed my shoulder
I'm so glad I never let her go

[Repeat Chorus]

Her smile got me through the years--
dried away the tears
And filled me with hope
At night I'd lie awake and cry--
prayed we would get by
And for the courage to cope
Oh, oh, oh

[Instrumental solo]

Her smile got me through the day--
and every night I'd pray
I could give her enough

[Repeat Chorus (2x)]

No on can tell me I'm wrong
I ain't goin' down

Mmm, sad songs. Right now, I have none, because I tend to listen to songs like that over and over until I'm immune to them. :P But songs that have made me cry in the past is the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, a bunch of Gackt songs when played at the right moment, and this one:

Senza Fine

Senza fine (Without aim...)
Tu trascini la nostra vita (You drag on our lives)
Senza un attimo di respiro (Without a moment to breath)
Per sognare (For a dream)
Per potere ricordare (For a chance to remember)
Cio che abbiamo gia vissuto (We have lived)

Senza fine (Without aim...)
Tu sei un attimo senza fine (You have only moments without aim)
Non hai ieri (You have no yesterday)
Non hai domani (You have no tomorrow)
Tutto e ormai nelle tue mani (Everything is now in your hands)
Mani grandi (Large hands...)
Mani senza fine (Hands without aim)

Non m'importa della luna (The moon doesn't matter to me)
Non m'importa delle stelle (The stars don't matter to me)
Tu per me sei luna e stelle (The moon and stars are for you and I)
Tu per me sei sole e cielo (The sun and sky are for you and I)
Tu per me sei tutto quanto (All is for you and I)
Tutto quanto io voglio avere (I want to have them all...)

Senza fine
La, la, la, la
Senza fine

I find this one really sad Hello by Evanescence
"Hello"

playground school bell rings again
rain clouds come to play again
has no one told you she's not breathing?
hello i'm your mind giving you someone to talk to
hello

if i smile and don't believe
soon i know i'll wake from this dream
don't try to fix me i'm not broken
hello i'm the lie living for you so you can hide
don't cry

suddenly i know i'm not sleeping
hello i'm still here
all that's left of yesterday
__________________________________________________ ___________________

I also find a few Eminem songs sad like...

Sing For The Moment
These ideas are nightmares to white parents
Whose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earrings
Like whatever they say has no bearing, it's so scary in a house that allows
no swearing
To see him walking around with his headphones blaring
Alone in his own zone, cold and he don't care
He's a problem child
And what bothers him all comes out, when he talks about
His fuckin' dad walkin' out
Cause he just hates him so bad that he blocks him out
If he ever saw him again he'd probably knock him out
His thoughts are whacked, he's mad so he's talkin' back
Talkin' black, brainwashed from rock and rap
He sags his pants, do-rags and a stocking cap
His step-father hit him, so he socked him back, and broke his nose
His house is a broken home, there's no control, he just let's his emotions
go...

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me now, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

[Verse 2]
Entertainment is changin', intertwinin' with gangsta's
In the land of the killers, a sinner's mind is a sanctum
Holy or unholy, only have one homie
Only this gun, lonely cause don't anyone know me
Yet everybody just feels like they can relate, I guess words are a
mothafucka they can be great
Or they can degrade, or even worse they can teach hate
It's like these kids hang on every single statement we make
Like they worship us, plus all the stores ship us platinum
Now how the fuck did this metamorphosis happen
From standin' on corners and porches just rappin'
To havin' a fortune, no more kissin' ass
But then these critics crucify you, journalists try to burn you
Fans turn on you, attorneys all want a turn at you
To get they hands on every dime you have, they want you to lose your mind
every time you mad
So they can try to make you out to look like a loose cannon
Any dispute won't hesitate to produce handguns
That's why these prosecutors wanna convict me, strictly just to get me off
of these streets quickly
But all they kids be listenin' to me religiously, so i'm signin' cd's while
police fingerprint me
They're for the judge's daughter but his grudge is against me
If i'm such a fuckin' menace, this shit doesn't make sense Pete
It's all political, if my music is literal, and i'm a criminal how the fuck
can I raise a little girl
I couldn't, I wouldn't be fit to, you're full of shit too, Guerrera, that
was a fist that hit you...

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me now, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

[Verse 3]
They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you , and cock it too
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault and i'll get sued
See what these kids do is hear about us totin' pistols
And they want to get one cause they think the shit's cool
Not knowin' we really just protectin' ourselves, we entertainers
Of course the shit's affectin' our sales, you ignoramus
But music is reflection of self, we just explain it, and then we get our
checks in the mail
It's fucked up ain't it
How we can come from practically nothing to being able to have any fuckin'
thing that we wanted
That's why we sing for these kids, who don't have a thing
Except for a dream, and a fuckin' rap magazine
Who post pin-up pictures on their walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives
Till they sit and they cry at night wishin' they'd die
Till they throw on a rap record and they sit, and they vibe
We're nothin' to you but we're the fuckin' shit in they eyes
That's why we seize the moment try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and
hold it
Cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our
songs and we can...

[CHORUS X2]
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me now, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Hailies Song
[Intro - Spoken]
Yo, I can't sing it
I feel like singin
I wanna fuckin'sing
Cuz I'm happy
Yeah, I'm happy
Ha Ha
I got my baby back
Yo, check it out

[Verse 1 - Sung]
Some days I sit, starin'out the window
Watchin'this world pass me by
Sometimes I think theres nothin'to live for
I almost break down and cry

Somtimes I think I'm crazy
I'm crazy, oh so crazy
Why am I here, am I just wasting my time?

But then I see my baby
Suddenly I'm not crazy
It all makes sense when I look into her eyes

[Chorus]
Somtimes it feels like the world's on my shoulders
Everyone's leanin'on me
Cuz sometimes it feels like the world's almost over
But then she comes back to me

[Verse 2 - Sung]
My baby girl [Hailie laughs] keeps gettin'older
I watch her grow up with pride
People make jokes, cuz they don't understand me
They just dont see my real side

I act like shit don't phase me,
Inside it drives me crazy
My insecurities could eat me alive

But then I see my baby
Suddenly I'm not crazy
It all makes sense when I look into her eyes

[Chorus]

[Verse 3 - Rapped]
Man, if I could sing, I'd keep singing this song to my daughter
If I could hit the notes, I'd blow something as long as my father
To show her how I feel about her, how proud I am that I got her
God, I'm a daddy, I'm so glad that her mum didn't want her

Now you probly get this picture from my public persona
That I'm a pistol-packing drug-addict who bags on his momma,
But I wanna just take this time out to be perfectly honest
Cuz there's a lot of shit I keep bottled that hurts deep inside o' my soul,
And just know that I grow colder the older I grow
This boulder on my shoulder gets heavy and harder to hold
And this load is like the weight of the world
And I think my neck is breaking should I just give up,
Or try to live up to these expectations?
Now look, I love my daughter more than life in itself,
But I got a wife that's determined to make my life livin'hell
But I handle it well, given the circumstances I'm dealt
So many chances, man, it's too bad, coulda had someone else
But the years that I've wasted are nothing to the tears that I've tasted
So here's what im facin:
3 felonies, 6 years of probation
I've went to jail for this woman, I've been to bat for this woman
I've taken bats to peoples backs, bent over backwards for this woman
Man, I shoulda seen it comin, why'd I stick my penis up in?
Woulda ripped the pre-nup up if I'd seen what she was fuckin
But fuck it, it's over, there's no more reason to cry no more
I got my baby, baby the only lady that I adore, Hailie
So sayonara, try tomorra, nice to know ya
My baby's travelled back to the arms of her rightful owner
And suddenly it seems that my shoulder blades have just shifted
It's like the greatest gift you can get
The weight has been lifted

Now it don't feel like the world's on my shoulders
Everyone's leanin'on me
Cuz my baby know's that her daddy's a soldier
Nothin' can take her from me

[Outro - Spoken]
Woo!
I told you I can't sing.
Oh well, I tried
Hailie, 'member when I said
If you ever need anything, daddy will be right there?
Well guess what?
Daddy's here.
And I ain't goin'nowhere baby
I love you! (kiss)

Can't pick the saddest.

Bryan Adam's Summer of '69 is sad...

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it till my fingers bled
It was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever - forever, no

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

Also, Counting Crows' Round Here is really really depressing.
Step out the front door like a ghost
into the fog where no one notices
the contrast of white on white.
And in between the moon and you
the angels get a better view
of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.
I walk in the air between the rain
through myself and back again
Where? I don't know
Maria says she's dying
through the door I hear her crying
Why? I don't know
[Chorus]
Round here we always stand up straight
Round here something radiates
Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
she said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
just like she's walking on a wire in the circus
she parks her car outside of my house
takes her clothes off
says she's close to understanding Jesus
she knows she's just a little misunderstood
she has trouble acting normal when she's nervous
[Chorus:]
Round here we're carving out our names
Round here we all look the same
Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
Round here she's slipping through my hands
Sleeping children better run like the wind
out of the lightning dream
Mama's little baby better get herself in
out of the lightning
She says It's only in my head
She says Shhh I know it's only in my head
But the girl in car in the parking lot
says "Man you should try to take a shot
can't you see my walls are crumbling?"
Then she looks up at the building
and says she's thinking of jumping
She says she's tired of life
she must be tired of something
Round here she's always on my mind
Round here hey man got lots of time
Round here we're never sent to bed early
And nobody makes us wait
Round here we stay up very, very, very, very late.
I can't see nothin', nothin', round here, oh.
You catch me if I'm falling, you catch me when I'm falling,
you catch me when I'm falling down on you.
Yeah, I'm under the gun, round here.
I said I'm under the gun, round here.

Clutch's Eulogy for a Ghost. Well, I find it sad. It's basically an outsider's look at a funeral.

the leather soles go shuffling in
stinking of smoke and ten-cent-gin
now who will toast the noble host that has this morning given up the ghost?

the wooden coffer hand to hand
kind words are offered, silent prayers
but she is satisfied the most while stabbing madly at the roast

the rib of adam, the eyes of eve
the sons of cain recieve no reprieve

the creditor rides with his men
the death of debtors he won't forgive
they reposess his silver eyes, now in the potter's field he lies

the rib of adam, the eyes of eve
the sons of cain recieve no reprieve

waiting for a dead man's shoes
have you heard the latest news?
lazarus is back from the dead
looking as one would expect
dripping with the water of sheol
babbling about body and soul
and then he found his wife in their bed
buck naked and already wed

the tax collector beneath his sheets
the door swings open, floorboards creak
now who will toast our noble host who has this morning given up the ghost?

the rib of adam, the eyes of eve
the sons of cain recieve no reprieve

"Chou" by Tsukiko Amano from Fatal Frame II was really sad. Here's the translated lyrics.

Deep undeground, I kept digging a hole
Without knowing where it would lead
With a dirt-covered eyepiece in one hand
I searched for your arm
Scraping together patchwork happiness, and sowing it,
I was crushed by your strength

Burned on Burned on
The inerasable scars left by the palms of my hands
Sever a rift in the red-stained clouds with my torn wings
See, I can flutter better than you thought

The eternity that I dreamed while confined in my cocoon
Where will it take seed and blossom?
The morning will eventually come and bring the darkness back home,
And steal my eyes away from me
Fumbling for you by moonlight, overlapping and entangling with you,
I believed I could become your true hiding place

Burned on Burned on
The place of our promise that will never return
Run across the black-stained earth with a torn-off agony
See, I can flutter better than you thought

If you can't hear me, even though I scream
I want you to destroy me with your own hands
While you can still hold me dear
Your arms that hold me back
Turn into a gentle dust
A simply stare at the sky, silently

Burned on Burned on
The inerasable scars left by the palms of my hands
Sever a rift in the red-stained clouds with my torn wings
Burned on Burned on
The place of our promise that will never return
See, I can flutter better than you thought

Then there's this song from the closing of Tokyo Underground called "Kakusei Toshi"...

Another day
I walk as if I have a purpose
Where the street stores are like a lie

Are you crying?
It's just the meagre past
If I look up
Into the DIGITAL SCREEN
Of the sky

The wind's song
Is climbing up the high stairs
We can hold it if we listen
We can awaken from
The dream where we were hurt
Don't cry

The city has fallen ill
Raised in a distorted cradle
We don't know know why we fall in love

Strongly
Holding arms together
We're just running away
Through the streets
Lets hide inside
The crowd

Always giving a
Cold and white ALUMINIUM KISS
I'm a DISPENSER so
That's ok isn't it?

The wind's song
Is reaching this world
From the end of the ground
Even you who I don't trust
Is going into my heart

But we're holding onto the dreams
That hurt
We're just running away
We're holding onto the
Lovely present

These songs kinda describe my attitude about everything these days. I'm doing fine tho. Oh, the trailer for Fatal Frame II made me bawl like a baby.

I personally think "Simple and Clean" by Utada Hikaru is really sad, but the reason lies mostly in feeling that I'm not getting enough attention by the guy I really like.

You're giving me too many things lately
You're all I need, oh, you smiled at me- and said,
"Don't get me wrong I love you,
but does that mean I have to meet your father?
When we are older you'll understand
what I meant when I said 'no',
I don't think life is quite that simple."

When you walk away
You don't hear me say,
"Please, oh, baby, don't go!"
Simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel tonight
it's hard to let it go.

The daily things that keep us all busy
are confusing me.
That's when you came to me and said,
"Wish I could prove I love you,
but does that mean I have to walk on water?
When we are older you'll understand it's enough when I say so,
and maybe, some things ARE that simple."

When you walk away
You don't hear me say,
"Please, oh, baby, don't go!"
Simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel tonight
it's hard to let it go.

Hold me, whatever lies beyond this morning
is a little later on.
Regardless of warnings the future doesn't scare me at all.
Nothing's like before.

Mad World- Gary Jules?

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces

Bright and early for the daily races
Going no where
Going no where

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression

Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very very
Mad world
Mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday

And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me

Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me

And I find I kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

2Pac - Brendas Got a Baby, Its a rap song about a girl whos 12 years old, and is having a baby whos father is her cousin, and she gave birth to the baby in a bathroom floor and she threw the baby away in a garbage, she ended up being a prositute and being murdered.

I hear Brenda's got a baby
Well, Brenda's barely got a brain
A damn shame
Tha girl can hardly spell her name
(That's not her problem, that's up to Brenda's family)
Well let me show ya how it affects the whole community
Now Brenda never really knew her moms
and her dad was a junky puttin death into his arm
It's sad, cause I bet Brenda doesn't even know
Just cause your in the ghetto doesn't mean ya can't grow
But oh, that's a thought, my own revelation
Do whatever it takes to resist the temptation
Brenda got herself a boyfriend
Her boyfriend was her cousin, now lets watch the joy end
She tried to hide her pregnancy, from her family
Who didn't really care to see, or give a damn if she
Went out and had a church of kids
As long as when tha check came they got first dibs
Now Brendas belly is gettin bigger
But no one seems ta notice any change in her figure
She's 12 years old and she's having a baby
In love with tha molester, whos sexed and crazy
And yet she thinks that he'll be with her forever
And dreams of a world with tha two of them are together, whatever
He left her and she had tha baby solo
She had it on the bathroom floor and didn't know so
She didn't know, what ta throw away and what to keep
She wrapped the baby up and threw him in the trash heep
I guess she thought she'd get away, wouldn't hear the cries
She didn't realize how much tha the little baby had her eyes
Now tha babys in the trash heep balling
Momma can't help her, but it hurts to hear her calling
Brenda wants ta run away, momma say, you makin' me lose pay
The social workers here everyday
Now Brenda's gotta make her own way
Can't go to her family, they won't let her stay
No money no babysitter, she couldn't keep a job
She tried ta sell crack, but end up getting robbed
So now what's next, there ain't nothin left ta sell

Oh man, sad songs. There sure are plenty of them. Some songs that are saddest in my opinion are "Aoi Tori" (blue bird) by Plastic Tree and "Drain Away" by Dir en grey. However plenty of their songs are (at least by me) considered EXTREMELY sad (and/or painful). I'm the kind of person that for some reason (whatever it may be- really, really enjoys what most people would call "depressing lyrics." Which probably explains my love of Plastic Tree *coughs* XD But really, I think that lyrics that bring out circumstances that are real (especially those that are ignored) and can make such a profound statement that it makes me cry, those lyrics are truly beautiful (even if in someway they are grotesque- because the truth can be grotesque). OK XD Now that I've probably made no sense and confused everyone here are the lyrics to those two songs :Þ

"Aoi Tori" (blue bird) by Plastic Tree
(lyrics from http://nejimaki.net)

It's the kind of beautiful, clear day on which a blue bird might fly
Unable to find us, God laughs
We look up, and through the branches the sky is like a puzzle
What words will it take to keep you with me?

The strong wind blows, and we laugh
It's as if we can fly

Amid the myriad of light, why is it the two of us must surely fall apart?
Entwined in vines of misery, I'll just go on
I'll just go on, without knowing

In our gentle patch of sunlight, the eerily transparent sun
reflects and becomes a point of blackness

A dim noise
I strain my ears to the depths of my heart...

Since both of us will surely just forget, why is it that your voice still echoes?
Entwined in vines of misery, from here
From here I'll be reaching out

The rain has fallen
And staring up, I get the feeling that we've fallen towards the sky...

Amid the myriad of light, why is it the two of us must surely fall apart?
Entwined in vines of misery, I'll just go on
I'll just go on
And it's you that I'll surely never understand
Though I clasp your hand, you're still so far away
The sky that twines the vines of misery
Buries us, buries us in its overflowing light

It's the kind of beautiful, clear day on which a blue bird might fly

"Drain Away" by Dir en grey

I reminisce under the late afternoon sky
of the pressed flowers I miss so dearly.
Back then, I counted down the days with my fingers
to the day I would see you.
The sky was blue,
the good old days when my dreams were shattered.
It brings sadness and sorrow. The sin is endless.
Not a single sound to be heard.
Tonight it is spring.

One cold evening I saw her as she stood
under the cherry blossom tree,
with petals that bloomed too early.
This story goes way back.
She was beautiful and pretty but there was something about her.
She had a very sad face.
Her long hair hid her tears of late afternoon.

Through the forgotten seasons, this place still reminds me of her.
Time has made her disappear,
and she was so delicate with her black and white scar.
The sky was blue,
the good old days when my dreams were shattered.
The sin is too deep to bear, as I hear the sound of darkness.
Tonight it is spring.

The show booth

It was a cold late afternoon and I remember seeing her
being colored by people. She couldn't do anything
but cry as her tears bloomed like the petals.

I reminisce under the late afternoon sky
of the pressed flowers I miss so dearly.
Back then, I counted down the days with my fingers
to the day I would see you.
The late afternoon sky lights the shed.
The cherry blossom tree grew in back of it.
And underneath the tree, she lies hiding her scar
with the sleeve of her shirt hoping it would disappear
just for that moment.
The sky was blue,
the good old days when my dreams were shattered.
It brings sadness and sorrow. The sin is endless.
Not a single sound to be heard.
Tonight it is spring

For some reason, many of Selena's songs make me sad. Oddly, it's this one that's probably the saddest, and it's not even a sad song....

DREAMING OF YOU -- Selena

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you and I wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking of me too

'Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight
'Til tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me

Wonder if you ever see me and I wonder if you
Know I'm there (Am I there)
If you looked in my eyes would you see what's inside
Would you even care

I just wanna hold you close but so far
All I have are dreams of you
So I wait for the day and the courage to say
How much I love you, yes i do!

I'll dreaming of you tonight
'Til tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me

Ahh-Ahh (Crorazon)
I can't stop dreaming of you (No puedo dejar de pensar en ti)
I can't stop dreaming (Como te necesito)
I can't stop dreaming of you (Mi amor, come te extrano)

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I still can't believe that
You came up to me and said
I love you
I love you too

I'll be dreaming with you tonight
'Til tomorrow and for all of my life
And there's nowhere in the world l'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming with you endlessly

And this one, because it always makes me think of my friends in high school

GOODBYE -- Spice Girls

No no no no, no no no no, no no no no

Listen little child there will come a day
when you will be able, able to say,
Never mind the pain, all the aggrevation,
You know there's a better way
for you and me to be

Look for the rainbow in every storm,
Fly like an angel heaven sent to me

Goodbye my friend,
(I know your gone, you said you're gone, but I can still feel ya here)
It's not the end,
(You gotta keep it strong before the pains turn into fears)
So glad we made it, time will never change it no no no
no no no no

Just a little girl,
Big imagination,
Never letting no one take it away,
Went into the world
(into the world)
What a revelation,
She found there's a better way for you and me to be

Look for the rainbow in every storm,
Find out for certain
love is gonna be there for you,
You'll always be someone's baby

Goodbye my friend,
(I know your gone, you said you're gone, but I can still feel ya here)
It's not the end,
(You gotta keep it strong before the pains turn into fears)
So glad we made it, time will never change it no no no
no no no no
You know its time to say goodbye
No no no no

The times when we would play about,
The way we used to scream and shout,
We never dreamt you'd go your own sweet way

Look for the rainbow in every storm,
Find out for certain love is gonna be there for you,
You'll always be someone's baby

Goodbye my friend,
(I know your gone, you said you're gone, but I can still feel ya here)
It's not the end,
(You gotta keep it strong before the pains turn into fears)
So glad we made it, time will never change it no no no
no no no no

You know it's time to say goodbye
And don't forget you can rely
You know it's to say goodbye,
And don't forget on me you can rely
I will help you help you on your way
I will be with you everyday
I will be with you everyday
I will be with you everyday......

Finally, there's this one off of Destiny's Child's first album. It is kinda depressing....

TELL ME -- Destiny's Child

Why dont you just admit it
Cause I dont need your graditude
And dont you try to hide it
Just tell me the truth
I cant go on this way looking for something that isnt there
Should I be on my way
Because I need a reason for this pain

if you dont love me anymore
I never thought this day would come
But a test of love I need from you
Honesty's always seen through eyes
I wish you would believe

Im giving you my all but it's not pleasing (you're distant heart)
If you respect my love (If you respect my love) you'll hear my plea (You'll hear my plea)

Tell me if you dont love me anymore
Just tell me, if you dont care about me anymore
Just tell me, if you dont want it, just tell me
All you gotta do, all you got to do is tell me
Tell me if you dont love me anymore
Just tell me, if you dont care about me anymore
Just tell me, if you dont want it, just tell me

Do do do do do do do do do
la la la la la la la la la
Ooh, Ohhhhh.....

Tell me if you dont love me anymore
Just tell me, if you dont care bout me anymore (If you don't need me, if you don't care boy, let me know)
Just tell me, if you dont want it,just tell me......

What would you do? I feel so sorry for the girl in this.

Boys and girls wanna hear a true story?
Saturday night was at this real wild party
They had the liquor overflowin' the cup, about
5 or 6 strippers tryin to work for a buck
and I-took one girl outside wit me, her name
was Loni, she went to Junior High wit me,
I said, Why you up in there dancin for cash?,
I guess a whole lots changed since I seen you last
She said..

Chorus:

What would you do?, if your son was at home
crying all alone on the bedroom floor, cuz he's hungry
and thee only way to feed him is ta sleep wit a man
for a little bit of money, and his daddy's gone
so we're smokin' rock now, in and out of lock down,
I aint gotta job now, so for you this is just a good time
but for me this is what I call life

2nd verse:

Girl you aint thee only one wit a baby,
that's no excuse to be livin all crazy
then she looked me right square in the eye
and said everyday I wake up hopin' to die,
she said- nigga I know about pain cuz,
me and my sista ran away, so my daddy
couldn't rape us, before I was a teenager
I done been through more shit, you can't even
relate ta!

(Chorus)

Ooooo
Then she said, What would you do? if....
Get up on my feet and let go of every excuse
What would you do? if....
Cuz I wouldn't want my baby, to go through what
I went through
What would you do? if....
Get up on my feet, stop makin tired excuses
What would you do? if...
Girl I know if my mother can do it, baby you can do it

Oooo, oooo, oooo-(yea, yea, yea, yea)

(Chorus)

What would you do? if yo son was at home,
crying all alone on the bedroom floor, cuz he's hungry
and the only way to feed him is to sleep wit a man
for a little bit of money, and his daddy's gone
somewhere smokin rock now, in and out of lock down,
I aint gotta job now, so for you this is just a good time
but for me this is what I call life (Come on)

Bright Eyes - No Lies, Just Love is extremely touching for me to listen to.

It was in the march of the winter I turned 17
That I bought those pills
I thought I would need
And I wrote a letter to my family
Said it's not your fault
And you've been good to me
It's just lately I've been feeling like I don't belong
Like the ground's not mine to walk upon
And I've heard that music echo through the house
Where my grandmother drank by herself
And I sat watching a flower as it was withering
I was embarassed by it's honesty
So I'd prefer to be remembered as a smiling face
Not this fucking wreck that's taken it's place

So please forgive what I have done
No, you can't stay mad at the setting sun
'Cuz we all get tired, I mean eventually
There's nothing left to do but sleep

But spring came bearing sunlight
Those persuasive rays
So I gave myself a few more days
My salvation it came quite suddenly
When Justin spoke very plainly
He said, "Of course it's your decision,
But just so you know,
If you decide to leave,
Soon I will follow."

I wrote this for a baby who has yet to be born
My brother's first child, I hope that womb's not too warm
'Cuz it's cold out here and it'll be quite a shock
To breathe this air, to discover loss
So I'd like to make some changes before you arrive
So when your new eyes meet mine
They won't see no lies
Just love
Just love
I will be pure
No, I know I will be pure
Like snow
Like gold

How can you not think of Hurt!? Strangely a lot of covers are a lot sadder than the originals (in this case Nine inch Nails) The singer, Johnny Cash. The song, Hurt. His time of death, way too soon after this song came out.

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hold
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

R.I.P Johnny..

Man 'o man, so many wonderfully depressing tunes! :( I have about three songs that come to mind. One is by Brittney Spears, but I can't remember the name of it... the chorus has this in it, though:

Every time I try to fly I fall
without my wings, I feel so small
I guess I need you baby.
And everytime I see you in my dreams,
I see your face, its haunting me
I guess I need you baby.

Another is a hymn that was played at my grandfather's funeral and has stood out in my mind ever since as having some of the most beautiful harmonies and lyrics I've ever heard: The Last Mile of the Way by ?.

And finally, probably one of the saddest songs I know is Whiskey Lullaby, a country music duet sung by Allison Krause and I forget the guy's name. O_o
I think these are the lyrics (tries to remember them off the top of her head since she's listened to the song a thousand times):
She put him out
Like the burning end of a midnight cigarette.
She broke his heart
He spent his whole life trying to forget.
We watched him drink his pain away
A little at a time.
But he never could get drunk enough
To get her off his mind.
Until the night...

CHORUS
He put that bottle to his hand and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Gave him the strentgh to get up off his knees.
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said "I'll love her 'till I die."
When we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby.
Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah
Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah.

ALLISON
The rumors flew
But nobody knew how much she blamed herself.
For years and years
She tried to hide the smell of whiskey on her breath.
She finally drank her pain away
A little at a time.
But she never could get drunk enough
To get him off her mind
Until the night...

CHORUS
She put that bottle to her hand
And pulled the trigger.
And finally drank away his memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger.
Gave her the strength she had to get up off her knees.
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clingin' to his picture for dear life.
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby.
Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah
Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah

Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah
Lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah, lah

If anyone wants to hear Whiskey Lullaby, message me through the board or on AIM (chicksntrucks03). It's a great song. ~ Crystal
