View Full Version : Only in dreams....?

Do you... ever wake up in the morning, worried by what you've seen in those night-time visions that we call dreams?
That's how I woke up this morning. Worried, and uncertain. I dreamt of school, and of friends. And, something also went wrong that sent me into worry. Usually, if I dream of something bad, it's not the usual "bad" that you see in horror movies where they show you the peoples' nightmares, like, things chasing after you. But... rather.. it's more mundane things. The most common thing to go wrong, is having some one that I care for yell at me for something. Which is what happened in this dream that made me worry.
I know it's only a dream. But still... I can't help but be bothered by it. It makes me afraid that it's actually going to happen. It tends to make me somewhat wary around people for a little while...
Do you guys ever have the same thing happen to you?

Yeah, I TOTALLY get what you're saying... and it's okay to be a little freaked by it. I mean, they're frightening to anyone, especially the non-chasing types... (That's why Hitchcock was so effective). I mean, dreams like that not only seem real when asleep, but when awake). We can't disregard them as totally impossible later on, just because they are POSSIBLE, even if unlikely. It's like they can haunt us with our eyes open OR closed.
But, yeah, try not to be too concerned, which I know is more easily said than done. Sometimes, you do just need to wait it out, y'know? "Re-prove" to yourself that it's all okay? I mean, just saying, "It was only a dream" doesn't seem to work for me, since it all FELT so real... I usually just coast for a while until it fades away again (which it WILL, don't worry, lol). And if people think you're acting odd, just tell them the truth, they'll get it.
So- don't sweat it! It's perfectly natural, y'know? I'd be a little worried if nightmare's like that DIDN'T bother you. ^_~ It shows you're human, hehe (which we all are).
So until you feel better- here's a hug to hold you over. *glomp* ^_^ Take care!

Dreams can really creep me out. Especially if they come true O_O But don't worry too much about it. Some people say dreams mean something but most of the time they really don't. It just depends on how it goes and how often you have it. I kept on having dreams that one of my friends tried to kill me and thery havent...yet..LOL
But don't worry about it too much! It really is natural to worry about them but just hope for the best!

I had the freakiest dream ever a few months ago, but I don't wanna tell anybody what it was. It doesn't bug me that much. I hardly remember it now. ^^

One of my biggest fears has been played for me over and over in my dreams, haunting me: missing the school bus. Haha, yeah, not spiders or what not. Just waking up to the sound of my bus pulling up the bus stop (right outside my house) and having to constantly persaude it to wait 5 minutes while I get ready. But just like all dreams, weird things go wrong. Like, I'll suddenly be missing my pants and have to go look for them again. ^_<
But it bugs the crap out of me when I wake up, and I end up being way too early for my bus. But the funny thing is I don't take school buses anymore, and I still get the dream(/NIGHTMARE!).
But then, there are times I've been physically scared for my life or have actually died in dreams and it stays with me throughout the whole day. Instead of worrying about it, instead its interesting to experience it. I fainted in one of my dreams, and I never have in real life, so it was quite an experience.
However, more on topic, I've had dreams where certain people said things to me that make me uncomfortable and I find it hard to talk to them in real life. Yarh.

I have those kinds of dreams too. In one, I was a ghost and only my brother could see me. I felt lonely and in the end of the dream, I was being forced to go up to heaven (but I woke up right before I got passed the roof of my house). It was sad to see how sad my family was. That one was with me for a day, once.

Ah, the fear of thinking that it might come true what was portrayed in your dream.
I used to experience in my childhood "future dreams". I vaguely dreamt of things that would actually occur years later.
Then there are things that I dream of that usually don't mean anything (for as far as I know). Good things and bad things.
The latter is the most common. I think you shouldn't worry too much about those dreams you have. And if something bad happens -- and it was a prediction of the dream -- then what? If you couldn't have done anything about it, then let it be.

I've gotten shot, stabbed a bunch, and have just about almost died in a bunch of my dreams (yes, I'm an action star)... EVERY time it all feels so real... it's weird how your body can imagine what it feels like to be stabbed... like I even feel myself going into shock in my dreams...
Also, I'm telekinetic in ALL of my dreams... and I can fly... and I can shoot webs... in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. It's not just a fantasy thing every once in a while. My boyfriend makes fun of me sometimes because I'll do the Spider-Man web shooting thing during the day (and of course it won't work).... sometimes, I just forget I'm not dreaming. Am I awake?

Whenever I can "fly" in dreams, it's never really flying. It's like, I can either leap really high and then glide, or just levitate, but I've never been able to like... pull a Matrix/Superman sore through the air thing.
And I never have dreams where I get hurt. NEVER. It's always someone else getting hurt, and me being really frightened for them. But those aren't anywhere NEAR as scary as my "going to school in my panties" dreams. Now THAT will make you wake up with a sweat.

I tend to disagree with almost everyone in this thread. True you shouldn't let your dreams bother you... but you shouldn't ignore them either. Dreams can have meaning if you look at them in the right way.
If you have a dream where you fight with a friend or they yell at you... it doesn't mean that that's going to happen.
Usually everything in your dream has to do with yourself. Other people in your dreams are symbols representing yourself (there are some exceptions to this, but usually).
A bad dream is a sort of warning system to tell you that something you are doing can be potentially harmful.
It's more valuable to think of what your dreams mean and not worry if they will come true. People aren't prophets... neither is the subconcious mind, but they can help you sort out some sticky inner problems from time to time ^^.

I agree with Crimson.
While it's important that you should keep a level head and not let these dreams unnerve you, you have to remember this is your sub-concious talking and it slightly smarter than your concious.
So I say, just do what Crimson said and think about what it means but if you can't, don't worry about it.

I think that all you need to do is think to yourself, "If this happens in reality, I'll be prepared to make it all right." Give yourself more control than your subconscious allows, and generally things are alright.
My personal oddest dream isn't so much scary as makes me feel as if a missing part of me has finally been filled - last night I had a dream that I'm sure is related to an old dream I can barely remember because it seemed like a continuation.
I dreamt that my Father wasn't my biological Father, and I had e-mail contact (which I think a long time ago was written contact) with my real Father, some man who went by the name of "Sir Sim." as his name was "Simon."
It kind of creeped me out but at the same time made me incredibly happy - he always had something interesting to say, though I never knew what he looked like, and he helped me with school problems and everything.

My girlfriend had a dream once that my psychotic ex-stepfather came back and did unto my family lots of harm.
I know it can't be true because things have recently worked away from that, and that which happened is no longer possible, as the sequence of events in the dream, and the sequence of events in reality do not match up.
Did that make sense?

Does this mean I should make my tradional comment on dream interpretations?
most dreams are your brain defragging. It's neat and fun to have a translation, and sometimes the translation can be meaningfull, but normally it's just the defrag ^.^

I have never had a dream with a premonition. However, I do have the classic horror movie dreams. They're fuggin creepy.
I have once dreamt of falling, and then woken up on the floor, though that' pretty common.

I think all your dreams mean something, if you take the time to dig deeper and figure out what. But then again, ever since I was six or something, I've been subconciously studying the habits of people... xD Bwaharrharr.
I had a dream that a ghost was pulling at my hair and telling me to get up or I'll miss the bus. I finally woke up, yelled, "STFU!" and looked out my window to see the bus pass by. I was like.... o_o
And it happens a lot. I dream about people being mad or tornados following our car home and things happen. That's why I'm really scared of my dreams. I don't like knowing something is going to happen, because good or bad, it's kinda creepy.
Thank god I'm an insomniac. ^_^

Dreams are so funky. Unless they're scary... but even then, sometimes they're kind of funky-scary! :)
Anyway, sometimes I do worry after I dream things. Dreams can have a lot of freak-out potential.
I used to have these series of dreams about this guy who was stalking me (in real life O.o) and I hated him... in my dreams he would always end up in places I was, and I would freak out and throw chairs at him etc. In fact the other night I dreamed I kicked a shoe at him, and it knocked him out =D Most satisfying. But ANYWAY.
As for premonition dreams, I'm generally sceptical, although ... *AHEM* ... every month, just a night or two before my period, I dream about my period. 9 times out of 10! 'tis a very good indicator - never seems to be wrong. ^.^ Muhaha.

You know....
I used to dream about people that I know, a lot. Like, last year, my friends on the faculty back at Jedi Academy. I would dream about them. I had an interesting talk with.... I think it was Marco.... though it might have been someone else... at that time, after I dreamt about my friends on the faculty in serious trouble. A few days later, Dan and Adam pulled this april fools prank, which did get them in trouble from angry website members who had been duped by their trick. Then, a week or so later, there was a faculty bust-up.
I was told by Marco (I'm gonna go with it being him since we were good friends at the time and could IM him about things like this whenever I needed to), that the reason I dreamt of people and had this happen, was because I had strong bonds to these people. Not just in a physical friendly sense.... But... he said that there were possibly also psychic bonds to these people, and that's why I was dreaming about them.
The more I think of the words, the more they make sense. *nod*
