Well, seeing as I just went out onto my back deck (AKA: HELL!) I've decided to post this thread.
List your phobias*, why you're afraid of them, and what makes you afraid of them.(If you need help finding the scientific name, this link should help you out: http://www.ojohaven.com/fun/phobias.html )

1) Arachnophobia= fear of spiders.
-If I can see a fully-grown spider or more than one small spider, I'll get nervous, hit it with a broom if possible, start crying, clench up...you name it. My back deck is covered in them, HUGE spiders, and I've gotten in the habit of walking down the stairs with a broom and whacking every spider I see repeatedly while whimpering.
-I used to catch spiders in jars...I'm not sure why I'm so scared of them. It might be because when I was in grade four I got bitten by one?

2)Elevator Phobia=fear of elevators or similar lifts.
-When in an elevator, I'll grip the bars on the side and watch the numbers. If someone starts jumping, I'm reduced to a heap in the corner and cry.
-Before a trip to Mexico this past March, I had a dream that I was in a glass elevator that went up four stories with a bunch of other people, including my neighbour. When we got to the fourth story, a woman near the front pressed a button, and I knew that if she pressed it, we'd all fall. And she pressed it and we fell, the elevator hit the ground floor and smashed into a billion pieces and we all died. It may seem stupid, but I have a very vivid imagination...the kids in theatre camp thought it was funny the last day when they forced me onto the elevator...Mason had to hold my hand and Brittany was hugging me.

3)Aeroacrophobia=fear of open heights.
-If I'm up high where there's no walls or glass, I clench my fists and hold them in close to my chest, bite my fingers, and cling to other people. It was quite amusing to others in my class when we went on a school trip to Quebec and visited two waterfalls.
-I fell off too many things.

* Phobias are not everything you're afraid of. Phobias are things that will reduce you to a blubbering mess, or the equivilant thereof. Yep. So don't post 'the dark' unlessyou absolutely cannot stand to be in the dark and sleep with a nightlight. ^ ^

Haemaphobia- fear of blood
~this one time when I was little I went to the Denver Museum of Life Science. There was a human body exhibit my group went to. They had a model of the heart there, pumping artificial blood. I threw up and was excused from the lesson with that model. Then they decided to show little 9-year old kids how to disect a lamb's heart. Not only did I throw up again, but I passed out when I saw the blood. Yup. That's fear of blood for you.

Arachnophobia- fear of spiders
~I rented a house back when I was little (my family did). When we first moved there, we drove into a garage choc-full of spiders. I mean, there must have been hundreds in there. I ran as fast as I could into the house and avoided the garage at all costs. Then a few weeks later I woke up and there was a spider in my bed. I think if anything jump-started my arachnophobia, it would be that. >_<

Arachnophobia- fear of spiders
- I fear the way they walk. Not to mention all the movies I have seen with big, hairy, mutant eight eyed GIGANTIC spiders. Their legs are so spindly and they creep me out. I had a spider on me once, it was tiny, but I screamed so badly..... Not a very good reason, but a HUGE fear. Even DEAD spiders scare me..... Just the way their bodies are built, I suppose?

GettingStabbedInTheEyePhobia? - Er, I have a fear of getting stabbed or otherwise having my eyeball impaled by a foreign object. I've refused offers for contacts because even the thought of sticking those things in my eyes every morning just creeps me out. And of all the things to disturb me in the movie Perfect Blue, the only one that made me cringe while watching was when the random dude got stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver. Oh... so much blood and pain and agonized screaming. :boom

Acrophobia - Fear of Heights

-scared to death of them. get me higher than 6 stories and my knees start to wobble and i can't move.
-open air elevators. forget about it. i think i'd have a heart attack
-we went to the grand canyon and i thought i was gonna pass out

Nyctohylophobia- Fear of the Forest at Night

-aw man. this one gets me everytime. for some reason, the forests at night just frickin TERRIFIES ME. O_O of course my mom and sister love the woods so i have to go with them usually >_> and then it gets night. i don't know why with this one. Just freaky

Apiphobia- Fear of bees.
-My only fear! I got stung right under the eye when I was a kid, blinding me in my one eye for a few days, so I've naturally had a fear of bees. But I try not to let it bother me, and I don't become a blubbering mess.

And here are some of my favorite fears:

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words.
Lutraphobia- Fear of otters.
Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.
Consecotaleophobia- Fear of chopsticks.

I'm pretty sure there is a thread like this, about your biggest fears, but what the hell, this will be interesting.

Why is everyone afraid of spiders?! I LOVE THEM TO DEATH.

Oh yeah, and a phobia is a fear that either makes you freeze, or makes you start panicking like crazy. =D Most people actually don't have phobias, or have maybe one or two.

My phobias-

Claustrophobia- Oh man, I am so damn afraid of tight spaces and not being able to breathe, I start panicking just thinking about it @o@ In fear factor when they were in a body bag and dropped into the water, I was like, screaming and hyperventilating just watching that O_O;

Silenca-phobia(Okay I made that word up, I don't know the real one)- I'm phobia-ted of silence X3 I don't like things to be perfect quiet at any time, I always need some kind of noise or else I'll just freeze and sit there.

I used to have acrophobia, but I got over it (surprisingly enough)

Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Pfft I might as well have that. If you have a retainer/expander and that happens, you're SCREWED because it's gross and gets stuck in there for like, ever and it's hard to get out. Yeah. Gross.

Claustrophobia-Fear of being in tigh spaces

I hate being in tight spaces where i cant move,i love stretching....my biggest fear is being in a coffin, burried alive while i was sleeping(its happened before!) i would be so freaked out because
1.You cant move
2.No one can hear you
3.Your like 6 feet underground
4.You'll run out of air, which will make you panic and move around but since your in a coffin, you cant move around which get you more panic than before and you breath so much that you run out of air
5.Then you'll die
That's what im really afraid of..

Pogonophobia: Fear of beards.

- It's not like I don't like beards. They're a perfectly nice addition to a man's face. Unless it's a man I know. And it gets close to me. Goatees are all right, for the most part. It's those big, bushy beards that cover the entire face that scare me. I can't see what's under there, just disgusting, crinky hair. I'm always afraid that someone different is under there. My boyfriend has a bad habit of not shaving for weeks, until I freak out and won't let him near me. I cry if a beard comes too close to my face.
- When I was a baby, my dad had a beard. Then one day he shaved it off. Apparently I screamed for days. I guess I just don't trust them now.

Demophobia: Fear of crowds.
-It's not really crowds, but being caught in the middle of a tightly packed large crowd. That freaks me out.

Aviophobia: Fear of flying.
-I'm fine once the plane is up in the air, but I have freakouts thinking about getting on a plane before hand and also during takeoff, landing, and in terbulance. Landing IN terbulance is the worst thing ever. This past meetup in Orlando... I was in tears while landing in a rainstorm.

Ophidiophobia: Fear of snakes.
-*shutters* Hey just freak me out like crazy.

Gabi Star
07-27-2006, 11:34 PM
Achluophobia: Fear of darkness
- I sleep with a nightlight and everything. I can't stand total darkness. I like to be able to see anything that may be able to see me. XD

Enetophobia: Fear of needles or pins.
- Ironic, seeing as I have multiple tattoos. For some reason I can handle a tattoo needle, but try and draw blood and I'll pass out or drop-kick the nurse.

Catagelophobia: Fear of being ridiculed
- I'm sure a lot of people have this, but I am very sensitive to the way people feel about me.

Acrophobia - Fear of heights
Don't like rollercoasters, super high stairs.. I don't even like my height D: It might be because my dad thought it would be funny to put and leave me on top of a rather tall cabinet we had when I was about 7 >>; I screamed and cried until he took me down.

Agoraphobia - Fear of open, public places
I don't like bumping into or touching people I don't know >>;

Atychiphobia - Fear of failure
Yet I fail all the time.. D:

Astraphobia - Fear of lightning
Ceraunophobia - Fear of thunder
I haaaaaate iiiiiiiit. ._.; Thunderstorms suuuuuck

Autophobia - Fear of being alone
Which slightly contradicts with my fear of open places. I don't make sense D:

Belomophobia - Fear of needles.
OMFG. If I even SEE a needle that isn't for sewing related purposes, it makes me want to cry.

Nudophobia - Fear of nudity
...it's not so much a fear. Nudity just grosses me out.

Katagelophobia - Fear of being ridiculed
Being made fun of in large amount isn't good for the self esteem. Hence why mine is so low.

This has concluded the fact that I am a biiiiiig wuss.

Dystychiphobia: Fear of accidents

I've been in one before, and it wasn't pretty. I don't want to have to use a fucking feeing tube again. @_@

Poinephobia: Fear of punishment.

D: Home wise. My parents don't kid when if comes to punishing someone. *hides*

Russophobia: Fear of Russians.
That one just looked cool. =D

Tocophobia: Fear of pregnancy or childbirth.

D: I don't want to have a baby. Even though they're cute.

I'm not sure if I'd call it a phobia but I hate ants! I sat in a bull ant nest when I was 2 years old, that is also the year I watched the movie Arachnophobia (?) and got that too :( though I am getting rid of it I think...

Athazagoraphobia - Being forgotten or ignored. I guess this kind of goes with catagelophobia which others have listed as being ridiculed. Mainly for me it's about not making a big enough impact on the people around me.

Atychiphobia - Failure. This is more of an assumption. When I set my mind to something I can not stand failure. Then again it doesn't necessarily frighten me so much as piss me off.

Phalacrophobia - I can thank someone in this thread for this phobia, which is becoming bald.

Elina

I'm really acrophobic. Seriously. I could be an inch off the ground, and I would be freaking out. (And my ex-boyfriend would sometimes pick me up and I would be, like, screaming until he put me down.)

I'm also arachnophobic. Sometimes, if it doesn't move, I'm fine. Otherwise, I'll be freaking out... though sometimes I will also go after it and try to kill it... and fail horribly.

kakosparagophobia - Fear of bad producers.

hidekenaphobia - Fear of girls who like making shonen-ai pairings from real life people who don't like it at all.

Arachnephobia: Fear of spiders.
-This started in grade 6 when a spider jumped on me

Catoptrophobia: Fear of mirrors
-Only mirrors in the dark.

Spheksophobia: Fear of wasps
->_<

Dentophobia: Fear of dentists.
-My worst fear by far.

Arachnephobia: Fear of spiders.
My absolute worst fear, probably. I've had a history with spiders. Everything about them terrifies me. :\
Atychiphobia: Fear of failure.
High standards set by others = high standards set for self. I really turn into an emotional wreck when confronted by failure. :D

There are some more minor ones I have but won't list 'cause they're not deathly fears, I guess :s

"Papaphobia: Fear of the Pope." ...Hahahah. It's amusing because you know these words had to be created for at LEAST one person each.

I like Topleka's, though I wish I understood the reference in her first one. XDD

Okay, I love snakes, and I think spiders are beautiful, graceful creatures.
And yet....
I have a deathly fear of ticks. I think this originated when I was little and read a magazine article about a girl who went hiking with her parents. She started to stumble and feel dizzy, and finally passed out. Her parents rushed her down the mountain to a hospital, where a tick was discovered on her scalp. The doctors said if they hadn't gotten there so quickly, she would have died.
TT_TT I've never had a tick and I hope to God I never will. They scare me so bad...

OK, that's what I thought. Just making sure.

And Jaela, ticks are probably the least harmful bug ever if they aren't deer ticks. I've had 1 or 2. They aren't anything that scary. And the time it would take a tick to kill you would be about 100 years roughly, not a few days.

I know, it makes sense logically, but it's a completely irrational fear. I can't help but be terrified.

It's Ok to be afraid of them, just don't think they'll kill you. Also, I've seen worse fears, like pickles, baloons, and of girls who make shonen-ai real life pairings.

I also have another fear:

Yaoiaphobia: Fear of girls who obsess over Yaoi (I probably spelt that wrong).

Shika Megumi
07-28-2006, 01:53 AM
quite scary. Hidekanaphobia is quite a bit so as well. O.O I have more fears.

Atychiphobia: Fear of failure

Gosh, having Asian parents sure does a toll on you. Always telling you "Be perfect! You have to be fricking perfect and get perfect grades!" ...stupid fear. it's lessening though.

Acrophobia - Fear of heights

Its ok if I'm on a plane or with a parachute or something, but I never realized how scared i was before i went to my friend's grandma's house. She lives on the tenth floor of an apartment/old folk's home. We were on her balcony and I looked down. My legs kept shaking and I was gripping on to the side and rail that my knuckles were turning white. Althought the throught of plunging to my death doesn't really frighten me, just the height and adrenaline gets me scared.(?) I'd totally love to skydive though. As long as I had a working parachute.
