I don't see why this applies to Christian believers only.

I am NOT a Christian and I've read the Bible. It's a pretty good book.

No you don't. The Bible say that if you confess and believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God, you're a Christian. Rituals such as baptism, though they can be good ways to confirm your faith, do not make you a Christian.

As for me, yup! I read the Bible. Although I don't agree with all of it, there's some nice inspirational things there. ^.^ I don't like the majority of the Christian population, though. >.< They make me feel there is little hope for society.
Someone I know very well was once asked by a Christian woman if she was an atheist.
In reply, she said, "Oh, no! I love Jesus! It's those damn Christians I can't stand."
I don't think anyone could've said it better. Exactly how I feel. XD

yeah there are some Christians that are so pushy >.>

like "convert or I'll kill you"

or they'll push until you feel like killing them.

I'm Christian, but I believe in some things that like...Catholic's don't believe in, say, gay marraige.

Exactly. And there are Christians who say you have to be a Christian or you're going to hell. How about impoverished children in third world countries who die before hearing anything about Christianity? What'd they do to deverve eternal damnation, huh?
I think C.S. Lewis said it best. I'm not sure of the direct quote, but he said something along the lines of 'You don't have to know God to be saved through Him.' ^__________^

Ooo, a fun topic.

I had the book force-fed to me for 15 years, so, yeah, I've read it. And no, I don't believe in "God".

I admit I've not read it all, but doing a Classics degree I've read parts since it's an important historical document for stuff like how the Roman Army worked.
I also read a bit when the Christian teachers took over the debate society in my school XD, but that's a story for another thread.

Honestly, if you take the Bible as metaphor and just read it for the good, moral lessons it teaches, it's great.

But if you read into it far too strictly and become unable to accept new ideas, well... then you're not great.

I've been raised in a strongly religious family(we have lots of faith but my mom has never been "fire and brimstone" or pushed beliefs on others; she's a very loving mom :) ), I admit I don't read it as much as I should,I've been trying to but a lot of times I get distracted >_<, and haven't gone to church in years, but(biiiiig but) my faith has strengthened by the tons und tonnes since then. I will go back, but just not right now.

Also yea, you don't need to be baptised in order to be a christian; I haven't gotten that done yet :p *adds that to horrificly large to-do list*

As stated before, this is bullshit and only applies to certain sects of Christianity.

Ah, Menchi. One shouldn't limit our reading material to what we believe in. I don't particularly beleve in Harry Potter yet I hear they are ripping yarns. That said, one should never believe everything one reads. Most things are a version harking back to an older thing, to which you must go if you wish to carry on your research further.

We can take things at face value. If we do in this instance, then the true believers of it shouldn't, (King James) suffer me to live. For in that good book I am clearly labelled and it is made plain what should be done with me. The fact that this hasn't occured proves the fact that "well read" and "faith" are separate things. Quad erat demonstrandum.

I am a Christian myself. But I haven't been baptised. Its more of something to be 'more like Jesus' than 'do it or go to hell'(Jesus was cercumsized and baptised. Which is why alot of christians do that stuff...). I'll probably do it some day. But just to feel closer to God, lol.

As for reading the bible... heh heh... I've read bits and pieces. Only the stuff that really interested me. I am a HORRIBLE example of a Christian XD;;; I really do need to read the whole thing from beginning to end some day... just to be a 'stronger' christian (cuz knowledge it power!!). Its pretty interesting. Just... there is almost nothing out there that keeps my interest when it comes to reading ^^;;;

I say, even if you arent religious, its still a fun read. For those of you who like to read. Without pictures or something going on, i never find the interest to read ><. Like my friend, he isnt religious. But he enjoys some parts of it. Specially Revelation. The ending about the future.

On a side note, I hate those who go around judging and condeming people who dont believe in their faith. I accept everyones different ^^

Mmm revelation now, there's a chapter with a checkered past. One minute it's in next minute it's out. It serves a purpose. Gotta end on a bang! Else who's going to buy the sequel? :)

I've read it yes, both in and out of Catholic school.

Im not into the whole "Catholic" Thing though. I wonder if I should be offended?

Anyway.. I get the feeling this should be in "The Library" but.. since I also get the feeling it's going to turn into a religious discussion/debate, I'm going to leave it here. Watch what you say, boys and girls.
